Video: Jon Michael Hill Is Glad for the Universality of PURPOSE

It's really a celebration of what Brandon Jacobs Jenkins has written

That's really what we're all most excited about. I think he's crafted something that's going to live on

It's really legendary work. So for this role to be nominated in his thing really means a lot to the community

This is such an important play. It's such a big play. You and I have had many conversations about he would change things and rewrite things

I mean, and it was like, how did you keep it all in your head of knowing what we were doing on any given night during the preview process

I think it's a testament to how well-crafted it is. I think the logic in a lot of it is just placed very strategically

So that makes it easier to remember. There were some long nights

And Phylicia Rashad also just kept us calm and put a lot of trust and faith in us

And I think having that, breeding that confidence really helps a lot. What made this show so special for you You done so many incredible things You kicked off the theater season with us with Passover You done so many incredible things But what about this one This one has managed to be extremely universal

I feel like we talk to people afterwards and they all see their own families in this family

And I think Brandon has really made the nuance very pronounced and I think people are responding to that

and that's sort of maybe the best part about it. And also, I've gotten to work with some of the greatest actors on the planet

and learning from them and being in community, we're having a really good time

When you got pinned today, what were you thinking? I was thinking, here we are, here we are again

I'm really honored. I'm really honored to be here. There's so many powerful artists in the room

and it's nice to be recognized as a part of that community
