Schubert is thrilled to bring the Majestic back with Gypsy returning to

its home base at a Schubert theater. It started in a Schubert theater and just

as the Majestic theater has been restored and brought back to its former

glory, so too is Gypsy being brought back in a spectacular new production

starring Audra McDonald. The thing that is extraordinary about this show is that

the brilliance of the original creators Jerome Robbins, Arthur Lawrence, Julie Stein, Stephen Sondheim, their energy lives in the work but it also the

generosity and the heart that they gave to it and all the people who have who

were a part of the original production. Arthur Lawrence has a special place in

my heart because when I went to NYU he was a teacher of mine. So it gives me I'm

doubly honored to be here to be inside of this astonishingly brilliant gorgeous

stunning building to be part of a legacy hopefully of extraordinary shows that

have happened here and I am humbled and I am really really grateful that the

voices of Gypsy that the voices of all the artists who have ever worked on this

show will be with us cheering us on and to make sure that that happens you will

be hearing shortly for the first time in 65 years an all acoustic version of the

overture to Gypsy. Thank you all so much for joining us today there are many

things that I am excited about this adventure but the first foremost is to

be working with this incredible legend of the theater Mr. George C. Wolfe

What happens what you guys get to see as a final product of George Wolfe shows is

nothing compared to the the brilliance and the genius and the creativity and

the life-affirming work that gets done in the rehearsal so I'm so thrilled that

I get to be a part of that again and I'm of course unbelievably thrilled that we

are here at the Majestic. When I made my Broadway debut across the street in at

the St. James Theatre in the Secret Garden 500 years ago the Phantom of the

Opera was already ensconced in the theater here so this is the first time

I have along with probably many of you seen it in its original glorious form

and of course like many other actors we have our dream roles and I've been

dreaming of playing Mama Rose for as long as I can remember and I am so so

honored and excited and ready to get to work to discover this role to discover

this show with George's incredible guidance and finally I am thrilled that our music director supervisor and conductor for the show Gypsy will be my

good friend my rock Mr. Andy Einhorn. So so in the words of the great Stephen Sondheim and Arthur Lawrence curtain up
