Anger or gladness, just left me in clearness
0:15
It's a privilege to pee. Hello, I'm Richard Ridge for Broadway World
0:20
Up next for City Center's famed Encores is the hilarious musical, You're in Town
0:25
which will run from February 5th through the 16th, and we drop by the rehearsal room to meet the company
0:29
and to bring you a sneak peek. For the privilege to peeve
0:35
20 years we've had the drought and our reservoirs have all dried up
0:42
I take my baths now in a coffee cup. I boil what's left of it for tea
0:49
and it's a privilege to pee. The politicians in their wisdom sun
0:59
And there should be lost. The politicians taxed appointments and made illegal
1:11
of curination and defecation. We have two weeks. We open in like two hours
1:19
We started today. Like that what it feels like And I think that part of the magic of it all coming together is the trust that the work that we doing here is enough And how we do our homework how we like show up and apply and play that really the key
1:39
thing for this, especially for a year in town where you are forced to play to be able to
1:46
figure out how it works. it's a room full of some of the kindest
1:53
hardest working people I have ever gotten to work with and it's beautiful
2:02
Jordan and I got to sing, Follow Your Heart, which I think has my six favorite notes
2:06
in musical theater in it, just laughter and gladness. And it's such a beautiful song
2:11
And I think, you know, the show is a satire of musical theater, but at the same time it has so much heart
2:14
and it's such an ode to the feelings musical theater gives us. And I think that number is the heart of the show
2:30
So this is an insane theatrical experiment. I cannot believe it has been as long-lasting and successful as it is
2:42
It's like Summerstock on Broadway. It's ridiculous. And for me this is the first musical I done in 40 years when I played Judd Fry in Oklahoma and Newtrier High School in Chicago Look it up
2:59
So it's all new to me, you know, the idea of like saying lines and then bursting into song and then
3:06
dancing a little bit and then talking more and then singing. Like it's all alien to me, but I'm having a blast
3:13
Working with this group of talented people. Honestly, the fact that we all throw things at the
3:18
wall and don't know if it's going to stay or go. And the safety in that room is just bar none because we all know we've got five minutes
3:26
to get it done. So it's a massive ensemble piece and everyone's having such a great time, myself included
3:34
Week one is done. You're running between the third and fourth floors. I mean, what's the rehearsal process been like for you
3:40
Well, for me, I really thought I'd just come in and I play sort of the villains's
3:44
minion, so I thought I'd just come in and kind of look sour. but they put me in a whole production number
3:49
I was dancing and I'm doing some ball changing. It's crazy. So you two had joined at the hip during the rehearsal process, right
3:56
Yes. Yeah. And like for on stage and kind of off. Yeah
4:01
I mean, they have a hand shake. Do you want to talk about the swear jar? Oh, the swear jar
4:05
The swear jar. Some people like him curse and the F words $5
4:13
Anything else is $2. How much do I owe About As we said it a very very fast process There a lot of swearing We not even in tech yet I think that it both sarcastic and funny and earnest
4:29
It is this real magic trick that it is emotional and hilarious
4:34
It is a very particular brew all its own. And the score is just incredible
4:39
Like, it is just song by song by song. It is a fantastic score
4:43
I love dark comedy. It is my favorite thing. And working with brilliantly talented, inventive clowns like we have in this cast is also my favorite thing
4:55
So I love coming to work each day and watching them create on their feet
4:59
And getting to, like, play off of that timing-wise with the music is so fun
5:04
And I think I'll charge you twice. There's no need to jeopardize your position
5:08
Or better yet have you arrested. I'm through with all this, you see, since you prefer the law
5:14
Yes. Scraping for gas three times a day. Crazy with nitrates have to time
5:21
Why it's dumb to fight with me. There's no way to live, I tell you
5:25
No way to live. For the privilege to pee. Pee
