Ally. Ally. She's loosely based off of Alicia Keys. I want to mention that
0:12
But, um, when I first stepped into this role, there was so much to discover about her
0:18
And to this day, you know, I'm still figuring out everything about her
0:21
But, you know, we've grown together, and I've come to understand so much of her story
0:26
and what she represents in this show. And I hope that I do her justice
0:31
and all the beautiful work on the page. I play her mom, loosely based on her real-life mother
0:37
who I have had the great good fortune of getting to know and become friends with
0:42
The idea of this character and this woman who sacrificed her own dreams
0:46
who raised a child alone in the middle of New York City in the middle of the 80s and 90s
0:50
that was the intriguing story to me. And then getting to meet that woman
0:55
get to know her, love her, become friends with her, hear her stories, it's been the greatest gift
1:02
And she's a spectacular woman. I mean, she did it alone, so she was mother and father both
1:07
She was helping Alicia find her muse in any way she could
1:11
and also being a disciplinarian and trying to keep her safe. So it's a very treacherous tightrope to walk
1:19
And I just love her. She's just such a gift, the character and the real life
1:24
My character's name is Davis, and I play Ali's absentee father. What I love about him is that he is very honest
1:31
and open about who he is and what he can give. And he gives all that he can give when he is present
1:35
but he does make it clear that he's not always gonna be around, but he'll be there if you need him
1:39
Okay, I play the role of Nuck. I'm the love interest, I'm one of those people
1:43
And it's my first time playing like a male ingenue, like, you know, cute boy, sexy boy
1:50
So I tried to, you know, just make sure I bring the romance in the right way
1:54
and still have this spirit of New York, really, mainly, and the guy, the character I'm playing is like
1:59
he looks one way and you stereotype him, but then he's got so many layers underneath
2:04
And that's the fun part about playing Nuck. I play Miss Liza Jane, and I am Ali's piano teacher
2:11
And what I love about Miss Liza Jane is that she is someone who represents
2:16
what every single person in the world has had, which is a mentor, somebody who pours into you
2:22
somebody who gives you more of your own DNA by pouring into you, in a way
2:29
places that you don't know that you are gonna grow into. And so I just love the universality of who she is
