If you are a fan of the who done it, then you will love the art of killing it
0:15
The critically acclaimed Bipak immersive murder mystery comedy, which has just been revamped for an open-ended run
0:22
playing here at the Future Proved Building, where I dropped by to meet the show's creator Jordan Waters
0:27
who's going to take us through Hardigan Manning. Well, first of all, Jordan, I am thrilled to be sitting with you here in your space
0:54
We love the good, the art of killing it, aka the Hardigan Manor. So let's talk about so when people
0:59
Come, like, what is the art of killing it? Like, what is the story? Who gets murdered? Can you tell us anything
1:04
You come to DeBotti's album release party. Okay. And somebody dies. And it is up to you to find the killer with your fellow audience members
1:17
And you get to debrief with the detective, who you don't know until halfway through
1:22
There may or may not be multiple murders that night. You don't know, depending on what version that you get
1:30
I will not say how the endings are decided. All I will say is you can come back
1:34
and you will always see a different ending, and you'll see a different cast
1:38
So take me back to the beginning. Before we get into this incredible new revamp version
1:42
how did this all come about for you to create Back in 2019 I created a script with my friends called Clue but Black because we all watched Clue and we like well wouldn it be fun to like watch it with people of color doing it
1:55
Because there's, you know, that's what's kind of lacking in the murder mystery world is like people of color aren't really featured as much
2:00
They're either the killer or they got killed. And so we're like, well, what if we just did a show, but we just did it
2:04
We didn't really like reference how black it was. It was just with people of color
2:09
And so we wrote back in 2019 and I locked into space in Los Angeles
2:13
for March 2020. We know what happened there. I know what happened there
2:19
So I rewrote that script with a couple more friends because that's how I work
2:22
I'm a very collaborative person. I will always be like the head curator, but then I'll always bring people on to help write
2:28
to help clean, to like, you know, kind of mix and match new eyes to make sure that everyone has a viewpoint on it that makes sense
2:35
But we realized the further we got into this was, wait, there's like a lot of money and names and stuff going into this
2:40
Like the Kluba black name might, there might be an issue with Hasbro
2:46
Yeah, there's that too. Oh, no, we're not. Okay, so let's change the name
2:52
So we thus created the art of killing it in March and then started rehearsals for this space in April
2:57
And we've been running shows since June. I love it. So we're in the sandbox right now
3:01
So what happens in this room when people come in? When people come in, you get to meet all of the characters
3:06
All the characters. In this room. Now, you're going to walk us through the different rooms of the matter, right
3:10
Nothing more than to do that. Here we go, folks. we're going into Hardigan Manor
3:15
So I've just entered another room here at Hardigan Manor where I believe Jordan will be joining us very shortly
3:21
Wait a minute. Where did you come from? Oh, there's plenty of secret passage right here in Hardigan Manor
3:25
Oh my God, right through here. Okay, so what room are we in
3:29
So this is currently the sitting room. All right so obviously this chair is in here Because you can sit they very loungy This is also like where music gets played This is the room that Hardigan listens to all of his music So he has his record player right there all these beautiful vinals on all over the walls
3:44
Are there clues in this room? There's clues and red herrings in every room
3:49
So that's the fun murder mystery has. I love this. We're going to continue going through the matter
3:53
Let's continue. Let's go around this way to the atrium. We're going to the atrium
3:59
Yes, and this is the atrium, where Hardigan has his lovely, willow tree. Oh, this is beautiful. Wait a minute. You were just Sander. No. The influencer. Who are you now
4:09
Nigel Canary Danksworth the second. I am the head butler of Hardigan Manor. I love this already
4:15
So this room is absolutely stunning. So this is Deatrium? This is Deatrium. Yes. Yes. This is where all the
4:22
flowers are and we tend to the lovely willow tree. If I may, you know, there may or may not be a clue or two
4:28
or red herrings, but my lips are sealed according to Hardigan. All right
4:32
His lips are sealed. You gotta come. We're currently doing an interview with Broadway World Redoubt
4:37
You know, how might people call your people? Okay, thank you. All right, bye. Now, wait a minute
4:41
We just exited as Nigel. Now, who are you now? I'm Jalen Blaze
4:46
I'm the manager. Look at this. This is the suit and suit? This is a suit and suit
4:49
We look good. So what, this is to study? This is the study, yeah. This is where Hardigan spends all of his time, you know, researching and all of his important documents are here
4:57
And it's a really great room to also, like, sit and read as well. Okay, and there's a lot of stuff on this desk, too
5:02
which I know could be a clue. We have some drawers in there as well
5:06
That people can look through? If you want to take a seat, absolutely. Oh, see. You literally can touch anything you want in here
5:12
So where are you taking us next? I actually have to take this phone call real quick, so I'm going to go sneak away into another secret passageway
5:17
but go out into the main room, you'll probably see some more playful characters. Thank you, man. Playful characters. Hey how you doing No I said higher The grid has to go higher Come on now So here I am at the bar waiting for Jordan Hey how are you doing Wait who are you Yes
5:32
No. Who are you? Yeah, who is my name? No, what is my brother's name
5:37
Are you clueless? I think I'm clueless. No, not now, clueless. Sorry, but thank you, though
5:43
Okay. Keep doing a great job. Wait, now, wait a minute. Clueless. Who's clueless
5:46
Besides me. Me? Clueless is our security and training or our stage management
5:51
So when we walk around and do the show, we want to make sure that everyone feels safe for the actors
5:55
and the audience. So the clueless track is made sure for safety
5:59
I love that. So, okay, so why do you think audiences just love this kind of stuff
6:03
Immersive murder mysteries and crime podcasts and solving a crime? It's, well, people want to feel involved
6:10
People want to feel like they're a part of the story and that they're smart enough to understand it
6:14
That's why people want to go and do those things. And we have fun here because we want people to be involved with it
6:20
Yes. And like being evolved with it, there's also that fun ticket tier
6:24
So like we have a world that's like you really want to be a little bit more immersed. We have, we do offer a fun notebook with a pen, a VIP button, a free drink
6:35
and a private one-on-one meeting with one of our characters. So you get the kind of scoop before anyone else does
6:42
Well, it's a fabulous night to come. Or you do batonais too? Yes, we do six shows a week
6:47
We do Thursdays at 7.30, Friday at 3 p.m. Friday at 7.30 p.m. Saturday at 3 p.m. and 7.30 p.m. and then Sunday at 3 p.m
6:55
Well, like I said, it's located at 32 Meadow Street in Brooklyn. It's really fabulous out here
