You are Tony nominee, my friend
0:08
You got a Tony pin on. I got a Tony pin on. I got a Tony pin on
0:12
So when they pinned you on, like, what went through your mind? Was there anything? What was happening
0:16
I was just like, I can't believe I'm getting this pin. I can't believe it. Such a dope pin
0:20
I'm going to wear it a lot. I love it. Is it so surreal
0:24
You literally just opened. You have this glorious opening night, rave reviews, and now the Tonys are here and you're nominated. Yeah
0:31
It's a gift. I mean, I can't say thank you enough to the people that got me there
0:36
I mean, this is the flood of texts from friends and family and just everyone from my past
0:42
who has helped me get to this moment. The thanks, I can't share enough
0:48
What's made this show so special for you? It's really the first show that I've ever gotten to do where I stay on that stage
0:56
I just don't leave and I go on like 15 minutes before the show starts, you know, and I'm
1:01
writing and I'm journaling and I'm getting a chance to write poetry or reflect on my
1:05
day or really journalize Ponyboy. That is a gift, you know, because it means I get to have a special connection with this
1:13
audience, this New York audience, which I've dreamed of performing for, for a long time
1:19
And then also getting to go on the ride with them, look and gaze and admire my fellow cast
1:25
mates and crew mates and just like kind of be in awe of what they do
1:31
I mean, these people are the outsiders from the top down. I mean, we're artists, you know, we just we really are in there, you know, we love it
1:42
And it's a beautiful thing to witness. I get to not only share my stuff, but I also get to share with everyone, you know, and
1:50
gaze upon what they're doing and be inspired by them. They keep me on my toes
1:54
They keep me hungry to become better and better and better every day
1:58
And I'm serious. I mean, that hasn't stopped. You know, this is a big day
2:01
Everybody is here. Is there someone like, I hope I bump into this person? Oh, my gosh
2:05
Well, I kind of got to bump into them. I mean, I really want to bump into the other two, but just fellow nominees, Brian Darcy
2:12
James and Eddie Redmayne, I've gotten to see and give them my thanks, you know, because
2:17
I mean, all those guys, their work has inspired me. The Les Mis movie, Shrek the musical, which was on Netflix, really brought me and my sister
2:26
together that like made us close, you know. And so the fact that they were a part of those projects, Dorian was a voice of so many of
2:36
the Marvel cartoons that I grew up watching with my dad, like Jonathan Groff
2:41
I mean, Melchior is still one of my dream roles that I want to play. You know, I kind of feel like playing Pony Boy is like my chance to kind of do that kind
2:48
of thing, which is a beautiful gift, you know. But I mean, them, because I am truly like I'm honored to be on that list with them
2:57
Like they're like they are gangsters. They are really good at what they do and I admire them
3:03
And they I thank them for, you know, giving me the courage and inspiring me to to to be
3:09
here, you know
