It really means a lot to me, this one in particular. I have the great fortune of saying that I've
0:11
been here before and I never take it for granted because it is threading a needle to have this
0:16
recognition which I'm so grateful for. But this one in particular just because of the
0:21
gestation process of this show over 20 years and getting to work hand in glove with Kelly
0:27
O'Hara and just really explore the depths of these characters along with the likes of Adam
0:32
Gettl, Michael Greif, Craig Lucas. I mean this is up there as being one of the most satisfying and
0:38
gratifying experiences I've ever had on stage. You know you've done so many special things but
0:43
this is extra special the way it's been done like over 20 years of putting this musical together
0:48
with the same team. Yeah it is kind of remarkable I mean that's never happened to me before and you
0:53
know just to be clear it wasn't 20 years of constant work it was kind of island hopping
0:58
every once in a while but in the last 10 years for sure there's a concerted effort to really
1:01
kind of find out what this show could be. So that is unique in and of itself but and then that's
1:07
just one of the ways it stands out as being special. Sharing the stage with Kelly O'Hara
1:12
what is that like? I love Kelly O'Hara. I'm lucky to call her a dear friend and you know
1:21
I've never had the kind of I've never been asked to do the kinds of things I had to do with this
1:27
character the exploration of the terrain of what these characters go through and the fact that we
1:33
were basically being given the same request and knowing that the person that you were doing it
1:41
with was just was fearless and was inventive and inquisitive and wanted the best out of every
1:49
moment and then and of course in the doing of it just willing to to try to find out what those
1:55
boundaries were and to go even further than they did the night before. That made me a better actor
2:00
and I'm eternally grateful for that experience with her. And Adam pushes the musical envelope
2:06
every show he does is Jeopardy. He moves the form forward what that means to you as an artist. Yeah
2:11
I think he does. I'd never speak for him but I think that I think what he does is I think he
2:17
tries to find the voice for the the thing that he's working on. It doesn't necessarily try to
2:22
push the boundaries per se but he's just trying to listen to what he feels is the right musical
2:28
expression for the story that he's telling and just by that very pure effort you get something
2:37
that is completely unique and completely remarkable as is all his work. So as you're here today you've
2:44
been down this road before. Who are you most excited to meet here today? Well I saw my friend
2:50
Leslie Odom Jr. in Pearly Victorious and I had a brief moment to be able to just look him in the
2:56
eyes and tell him I was astounded by what he did in that show. I mean it really was. So I'm looking
3:02
forward to seeing him again and just you know just congratulating him. That's just the first
3:09
thing that popped into my head
