Well critics are raving about 8 done bad. It's a momentous dance piece set to the sounds of country music star Orville Peck
0:10
Created by So You Think You Can Dance alum Jacob Carr, it's a powerful story of finding love and finding your voice told entirely through dance

The cast of 8 Done Bad is joining us this morning. Buddy we got major blues
0:39
Another suitcase in your hand I hope you brought your walking shoes
0:51
Cause it's quite a ways from what I understand So I come up big long
1:04
I think I could have been your man We watch the surfers as they whip on the strand
1:18
Daytona Center I'm the man for what it's worth
1:28
You always take the dare that's what I love I'm getting tired of this earth
1:40
But they say some stones are better left unturned So what you say big long
1:53
Is that another whispered play in I've been around long enough to know you can't trust a man
2:04
But I'm Daytona Center M-I-S-S-I-S-I-P-P-I
2:18
M-I-S-S-I-S-I-P-P-I M-I-S-S-I-S-I-P-P-I M-I-S-S-I-S-I-P-P-I
2:35
Nice performance. That was stunning. That was fantastic. The stretching paid off
2:41
Jacob Carr, creator. Hi Jacob. Nice job there. Nice to meet you
2:45
Thank you for joining us here on Good Day. Of course. Come on y'all
2:49
Yeah, bring everybody in. Come on back. Bring everybody in here. So just reading up on this
2:54
it said it came from the idea of just being able to be free
2:58
and being who you are, right? Yeah, definitely. I think it's, I always say it's my love life
3:02
I think it's, I always say it's my love letter to anyone who's ever struggled to find themselves
3:06
And it's my thank you note to everyone who helps them along the way. And that's kind of, you know, what we are as dancers
3:11
And I think how we are as people really. You know, I danced for 17 years. So just watching everyone here in this small space
3:16
and the precision and the athleticism, I always tie sports back into it as well
3:20
But Orville Peck, I just love his voice. And I know he's got a great story
3:24
as a gay country singer who's from South Africa. How did you choose him and that 2019 album
3:30
to base this dance performance on? He had been kind of existing in my head as this like earworm
3:35
I couldn't get it out of there. And his music's so theatrical, and it just kind of felt like this needs to be a show
3:41
And the story just kind of honestly wove itself through pulling from his music
3:45
and pulling from elements of experiences that we've been through and things like that
3:49
And it just kind of waterfall came together. It's running through the end of the month
3:54
Yes, August 31st is our final day. Okay, and you can catch it on West 42nd Street
3:58
at the Pershing Center? That's right, the Irene Diamond stage at Signature Theater. All right, good luck
4:02

4:07
