What am I doing? Why am I doing this
0:16
Strong and bright, there is a savage light
0:28
Leading me, marking my way Through the dark of the blackest night
0:41
To the blazing sun of a new day Far as the end of the journey lies
0:54
Long though strew me From the right to follow the savage light
1:06
I must be free Hi ladies and gentlemen, today we are so happy to be bringing you George Fischoff
1:17
who is the composer, lyricist, and book writer for the musical Gauguin Savage Light
1:22
which is coming back for its fourth run here in New York City, this time on September the 26th
1:29
My Life is now making Gauguin the next Fantastics. We're entering our sixth month in different theaters
1:34
September 26th, and we hope to run forever, though I'm announcing four weeks
1:39
We take four weeks at a time You get it at a time And like we did the Roy Arias for four weeks and then extended twice in the last two months we going to come back to the Arias here at 300 West 43rd Street the mini theater
1:52
and we hope that all people will find some inspiration. A lot of times it was hard for some of the stuff
2:26
because I didn't obviously agree with some of the actions that he, you know, some of the things he did in his life
2:30
leaving his wife and his children, but, you know, you get in touch with that idea
2:33
of having that passion to want to do something, you know, that burns inside of you
2:38
And that I related to, so I kind of tried to make him likable, but he wasn't too likable in real time
2:44
so we tried to make a healthy balance out of the two. The lips is warm, it's the warmest summer night
2:57
Eyes that dance with the laughter of a lovely child at play
3:02
Only dreams, they were only dreams
3:12
Of a time, of a place far away They play all the women in Gauguin's life
3:22
How do you do so many characters in one show and make them distinct? It really just about finding their inner wants and inner personality hopes and et cetera et etc It not so much about making them look so different because it nearly impossible when there so many and you really just one person
3:40
But just making them different in that way and what they want
3:45
It's kind of weird because I know there must be children to you, but is there a favorite one? I like Juliet because I did a lot with that on my own
3:54
Look at all the grief you're spared by being poor Who cares if there's not one cent to pay the rent
4:01
And there's the landlord at the door Your help shall throw you out if you refuse to pay once more
4:06
You don't know which way to go or what in heaven's name to do
4:10
Love, love, love, love, love will pull you through With love, life is like a party
4:18
With love, troubles fly away All your worries disappear like magic promo books
4:23
with love, with love, with love. Sometimes you lose touch with the people around you
4:38
you know, those people that love you. And it's not that I would ever leave my children
4:44
not that I have any children, but leave children or anything like that, or go as far as he did
4:48
but he just had that dying, you know, need to be appreciated
4:53
and lived that savage life, that dream that he had. And they were only dreams
5:01
They were only dreams. Till now till this moment we are Amen Amen Amen All those who come to join us September 26th through October 21st at the Roy Arias Theater
5:27
will see a little intermissionless presentation, 80, 90 minutes, with some very fine songs, said he modestly, I'm sorry
5:37
and three wonderful young people in the roles. and the purpose besides entertainment and history
5:47
80% of what you see on stage happen to Gauguin. I take very few liberties with his life
5:51
But the main thing is to find your own special inner light, Ken
5:56
whether it's to be a wonderful television producer, a composer, songwriter, an actress, an actor, a banker, a lawyer, a revolutionary, a politician, a doctor
6:05
whatever turns you on to find that inner talent and develop it at all costs
6:11
as Gauguin did he had to go to the other side of the universe
6:15
to Tahiti to find a place where he could finally express the freedom in his painting
6:20
but he did it On the right to follow the savage line
6:33
I must be right Thank you
