I'm Paul Tazwell and I've been nominated for Best Costume Design for MJ the Musical
0:06
It is Tony Day. How do you feel? I feel delighted, you know, absolutely delighted that we made it, that we made it to this place
0:22
Thinking about two years ago, we didn't quite know what that was going to be like
0:28
if we would ever get back to this place. Last year there was a bit of glimmer, but this year here we are here to tell the tale
0:39
And it's really exciting to be a part of it. What did you enjoy the most about the collaboration
0:45
I've spoken to all the creatives on MJ and they said the best part of it was the collaboration
0:51
Absolutely. I mean I think that with a piece like this, telling the story of Michael Jackson and being able to tell it in a smart way
1:03
in a sensitive way, was very important and we all took on that task
1:08
I think that it's a team of very respectful creatives and each of us took on that role of being true to who Michael was
1:23
and also how Lynn Nottage and Christopher Wilkin wanted to tell the story
1:29
What was the easiest look to come up with for you and what was the most challenging
1:35
Of any costume in MJ. I would say the most challenging would be
1:43
I don't think it was MJ so much because there was so much documentation
1:49
of all the clothes that Michael Jackson was well known for. It was more those that surrounded him
1:58
trying to recreate 1990s rehearsal clothes that could be believable and then transform into other periods
2:12
Being poetic and sensitive to some of those moments like human nature
2:19
a thriller, and specific to how that would affect the storytelling. So those were my biggest challenges
2:30
Well you did a beautiful job. You're wearing a Tony pin! I am wearing a Tony pin. Very excited
2:37
I guess that makes me authentic
