I'm Alfie Allen and I am nominated for Hangman

It's Tony day! I know. How do you feel, my friend? It feels amazing. I'm still pinching myself a little bit
0:13
It's all sort of sinking in, but I'm ecstatic. I'm just happy that Hangman itself has got recognised
0:19
and to be a part of a production that I saw six years ago and to actually be a part of that and to be nominated for a Tony
0:27
is still pinching myself a bit from being honest. It's amazing. It's always been a dream of yours to come to Broadway and do something, right
0:34
Yeah, without a doubt. I mean, I did two runs in the West End and then
0:38
yeah, you know, we've spoken about it before I, um, yeah, the next step from the West End is Broadway
0:45
and, you know, I remember sort of signing contracts to do Hangman
0:49
and then there was other things if you get nominated for a Tony
0:53
and this and that and I didn't expect that! You know what I mean? I genuinely didn't
0:57
So it's, um, you know, it's just fantastic to be a part of a Martin McDonagh play
1:03
and then for it to be recognised is just amazing. It's wild living in the world he's created, Martin, right
1:11
Yeah, yeah. It's, um, yeah, when I saw the play it just kind of stayed with me
1:16
for about two or three days afterwards and so it's, um, the people who've come to see the play have had the same reaction
1:24
and I've had friends that have come back to see it two or three times and then other things sort of pop up for them
1:29
because it's so layered and there's so much detail in Martin's writing and there's infinite possibilities in the play
1:34
so it's, um, it's fantastic, yeah. I mean, doing this eight times a week, what are the challenges
1:40
It's such a big role, it's such a physical role. Yeah, it's, um, it doesn't feel like that
1:47
It's like, it just feels so, um, it just feels fun, you know
1:52
It feels like a lot of fun and I just get to enjoy the work every night, every night
1:56
Um, which is, it's great, you know? I just, I can't really put it into words of what it means to me
2:04
to be able to, um, to just feel, feel that feeling of, well, every night's great
2:09
You have the audience in the palm of your hand. I hope so
2:13
You must feel it when it happens, right? Like that beautiful give and take you have between an actor and an audience
2:19
Yeah, absolutely, yeah. I mean, that is the best way, in my opinion, to get a message across to an audience's theatre
2:25
Um, and that's what's beautiful about it. That's what's beautiful about that is it can just change every night, you know
2:31
Um, and that's also due to Martin's writing and, um, and also the kind of nature of this play being set in the north of England
2:39
and things, things happen which you wouldn't expect to a, to a New York audience
2:44
so it's, um, it's great, it's brilliant. Um, and we, uh, Yeah, it's, it's, I've forgotten the question. I'm so sorry, Richard
2:54
One other thing for you is that, you know, we talked about this before, because of your success on Game of Thrones and everything else
3:00
people may be coming to the theatre for the very first time as they know you from another medium
3:05
Oh my God, I'm seeing a live show now! You're going to introduce it to this whole new world, what that means to you
3:10
Yeah, weirdly actually, I've got a friend who's come over from, uh
3:14
from England, who's from Oldham, where the, um, where the play is set and, uh, and it's his first time going to a theatre, coming to see this
3:22
and so he doesn't know what to expect and so I've just said to him, just, just go in there and just, um
3:28
I love doing that, I love going to a theatre sometimes when I know nothing about it and just being completely surprised
3:33
I think that's kind of the best way to do it sometimes, but it's, um, but he's, um
3:37
yeah, for me, that is, uh, that is paramount, is getting younger people to come into the audience
3:46
and, um, and enjoy it and getting that feeling of theatre because it really, you can't really compare it, I think, to anything else
3:53
And you're wearing a Tony pin! I know! It's pretty cool stuff, isn't it
3:57
It's very cool, yeah, it's, um, it's magnetic so I've got to be careful with it sometimes
4:02
but it's there and I'm very happy it's there
