Hello, I'm John Andrew Morrison. I play Thought4 in A Strange Loop, and I was nominated for Featured Actor in a Musical
0:14
It's Tony Day. How excited are you? Oh my gosh, it's, it's, well, yeah, I'm very excited. I woke up several times last night
0:21
Um, yeah, and at 5 o'clock this morning was ironing, because I'm like, what am I going to wear
0:28
Is it all surreal? It's a dream come true, right? Like, I mean, I've been dreaming about this since I was a theatre student, and, um
0:36
and at some point in time you kind of go, well, I guess, I don't know, it might not happen
0:40
And, um, the fact that this show that we kind of thought, well, it's too black, too queer, um, to ever be produced
0:48
that we're on Broadway now, and then to get the response that we've gotten, and now this love from, um, the Tony Awards
0:56
It's, it's a dream, it's a dream. Your show is touching people in such a beautiful way, touching their souls, their hearts, their minds
1:04
You know, it's on Broadway now. Introducing this beautiful musical to a whole new audience, what it means to you
1:10
Well, again, I've always thought that, um, this show is going to save some kids' life
1:16
And, um, they're just going to see themselves in it, and, um, and be able to realize that they're not alone in this world
1:23
with these crazy thoughts and feelings that they have. And I think because the show is so specific, um, it becomes so universal
1:31
And I'm always, you know, I'm always surprised when, like, you know, older white women come up to me with tears in their eyes
1:38
And, um, but what I realize is everybody has had some moment they've regretted
1:44
Everybody has had some moment of, like, what am I doing with my career
1:49
Everybody has had those doubts and those self-concerns and those just awful thoughts running around in their heads
1:55
Um, so I think it's universal, and I don't know that there's been a show that has, like, kind of, like, put it out there like that
2:03
where people then go, oh, right, me too. I also feel that and have felt that and experienced that
2:11
And so I think it's wonderful. It's a privilege. It's a privilege to be able to do this eight times a week, really
2:19
You're wearing a Tony pin. I'm wearing a Tony pin. Isn't it fancy
2:24
Um, you know what? Today it became real. Um, like walking into the hotel and seeing the big Tony, and I was like, I've got to take a picture
2:35
I've got to take a picture, and then getting my pin, I was like, okay, all right
2:39
I'm starting to come down to earth. Maybe my feet will touch soon enough
2:44
Keep them up there until it's all over, all right? Oh, thank you so much
