Here I am with Ally Mazi backstage here at Kimberly Akimbo. Thank you for joining
0:12
me for our little backstage vlog. I have a couple of questions
0:16
You're wearing my favorite pants by the way. Oh, thank you. I do love these pants. They are quite lovely
0:20
Okay, so this one comes from Chris Fox, who also happens to be my cousin
0:28
For reals? Yeah. What is one scene, since you have kind of the, you're in your
0:37
little slippers and your little robe and whatnot. You're very relaxing on the couch. What is one scene that you always have to watch from
0:45
backstage? That I always have? Oh, when Vicky and Justin are in the lockers
0:51
That one's great. Actually, I happen to just be backstage at the time
0:55
anyway, but like all of us stop and watch the screen. It's so cute. It is
0:59
really cute. Okay, um this one's from chpeterson25. Is that your cousin too
1:07
I don't know who that is. How did you first encounter Kimberly Akimbo? I went in for the
1:13
workshop. Cool. And there wasn't, we weren't given the script yet, so I think I did
1:18
one of the monologues and brought in my own song. Oh, wow, really? Which was bizarre because
1:22
I was like, Bring your book! And I was like, I don't have a book. So, I did the workshop in 2019
1:28
I got the workshop. Oh, okay. How I didn't know that. Yeah. Okay, I've been asking everyone this one because I
1:33
think nobody really gets this question asked. What is your favorite Broadway musical? Oh, I love Ragtime a whole lot. I have not seen that in a very
1:42
long time, but I used to, when the tour, oh this is a fun story. When I, when the tour, we used to go through Los Angeles. I'm from right outside Los Angeles, and I
1:50
would ditch class and either go see the whole thing in Ragtime, or sometimes we'd get there late, just second act it. But you know who my Sarah was? Who? LaChanze
1:57
who's a producer on our show. She was Sarah, so I told her, I was like you have
2:02
no idea how many times I've seen you in Ragtime. Oh my gosh! And it means so much that I get to work with you now
2:06
That is so cool. Yeah. That's a great, that's okay, that's awesome. Okay, so since this is a
2:12
very special week, it's Tony week. Yes. We have two more days. Yes. How are you
2:16
feeling with the Tonys being so close? I'm excited, and I'll honestly be glad
2:22
when it's all over too, and we can all just like rest a little bit. Yeah. Just get to do the
2:26
show that the audience and we love to do. Yeah. You know, but you know feeling
2:30
hashtag blessed to be in a Best Musical nomination, and I'm excited to party on
2:36
Sunday too. Me too. I'm very excited for that party. Okay, last question and then I'll
2:40
let you go. Who is your favorite quartet member? Out of all you guys? You. Oh
2:47
Wow! You know what I mean? You're sitting right here. So, I feel like you. Smart. Great answer
2:54
Okay. Thank you, Alyssa Rossi! Woo! Hello everybody! I'm here with Broadway's own Victoria Clark! What's up? What's up Liv
3:05
She's playing Kimmy, and she is our queen and our leader and our absolute favorite
3:10
person. Alrighty, I got a couple of questions for you. Let's do it. Okay, so
3:14
the first question comes from Broadway's Future. How many auditions did you have
3:20
to do? In life? For... For this? For this, uh, or for life? I guess since you have a
3:29
lot of life experience. How many auditions would you say you've had to do in your lifetime? Hundreds? When did you, when would you say you had to like stop
3:38
auditioning? Like, I guess auditioning or like going in for like calls and instead
3:43
just like being brought in. Oh, okay. So, pretty much after I won the Tony for
3:48
Life in the Piazza, then people would just start to offer me plays and
3:51
musicals. Oh! But I did have sort of a semi meeting slash audition for this
3:57
because they wanted to hear how my voice went with the material, and it was very
4:01
you know, easygoing and collegial and, you know, kind of low pressure, but they did
4:07
ask me to learn all of Make-A-Wish and all of Anagram. Okay, I didn't even know that
4:12
Okay, um, this one is from Sakura Oshaw. What's your favorite Broadway musical
4:20
Do you have one? I think it's this one. It's hard for me to think about any other show
4:25
while we're doing this because this is so special. So, at the moment it's Kimberly Akimbo all the way. That's a good answer. That's a good answer. Okay, and finally, since
4:33
this is a very special week, it's Tony week, 48 hours, how are you feeling about
4:38
attending your... how many Tonys is this now for you? It will be my tenth
4:42
appearance. How does it feel? Especially how does it feel being so different
4:47
Performance. How does it feel different? Like, if we're in a different space, it's a
4:51
different situation. Well, it's different because she'll be there. Yeah. You know, I love you and I
4:56
love this whole cast. So, that to me is the most special thing is being able to
5:01
share it with you guys who are just starting out in your careers and
5:06
that's... and actually to be able to perform for you, spoiler, but you
5:11
know, we will, you know, that is very special for me. Okay. All right, and last
5:15
question I've been asking everybody. Who is your favorite quartet member? That's like asking to choose my favorite child. Oh, I don't know. I think, uh, well
5:30
let me just say something I love about everybody. Okay, that's fair, that's fair
5:34
Okay. The great equalizer. All right, so Nina, I love her slight subtle sense of
5:40
humor and how she's a little intimidated. Yeah. By Delia. Uh-huh. You know, but they
5:46
would never come out and say that, but she's a little intimidated. Right. And
5:50
trying to keep up with Delia, as everyone is. You know, for Martin, for
5:55
for Nell's character, I think I just love his, his vulnerability. Mm-hmm. And I think
6:00
his suspender scenes are so... I love those suspenders. Are just so sweet and perfect in
6:06
every way. Michael, I just love the way Michael has thrown himself into the
6:12
physicality. Mm-hmm. This, his character, he moves so radically different from the
6:17
way Michael does in real life. So I'm very impressed with his physical life and he's just, um, his little step out solo at the beginning of the show where he has his
6:29
out-of-body experience, where he talks to the audience, is sublime. And I think for
6:34
you, I just like, I like what a great leader Delia is and I like how she's
6:39
kind of tough and uncompromising. You know, even in the last scene where Kim
6:44
says, you know, you guys were only doing it for me. She's like, no, not just for you
6:50
We really need our costumes back. And you make the end of the show really pay off because you
6:55
want it so much and you're so focused. And I think your focus and zeroing in on
7:01
that as a goal really helps just kind of shape the structure of the teens and
7:07
really makes the end of the show pay off. So, yeah. Favorite things about all of you
7:11
That was a great answer. Thank you. Well, thank you very much, Vicki. Thanks for
7:15
watching, everybody. Welcome to my dressing room. And see you at the Tonys. Bye
