Hi, I'm Alicia Umfress
0:02
Hi, I'm Joey Chansey. And I'm going to be singing in the one-night-only transport group
0:07
a benefit concert performance at Carnegie Hall of Hello, Dolly! I'm the musical director and conductor of the concert
0:14
with a glorious 30-piece orchestra and a 75-voice ensemble. Plus 28 principal singers and 25 dancers
0:24
Which leads us to a total of 100 and... carry the one... 65. Wow
0:58
I squealed with delight because I haven't performed a Carnegie Hall. This will be my Carnegie Hall debut
1:07
So to do it with this project is perfect. This is my 11th concert with Transport Group
1:14
We've done a whole host of titles of Nine and The Music Man and Peter Pan, Man of La Mancha
1:23
And this year it's Hello Dolly. And we're still riding high from how amazing and special the concert of Follies was last year
1:34
Hello Dolly excites me because I am revisiting her after playing the title role at 15 years old at Stars 2000 Teen Theater Company in Walnut Creek, California
1:47
and I was really just doing a smash and grab plagiarizing carbon copy of Barbra Streisand because I was so obsessed with her and I had watched the movie incessantly as a child
2:02
So when I finally got the opportunity to play the role, I just basically was giving Barbara at 15
2:07
So I hope to bring my own flair now that a few years have gone by
2:13
There are a couple of things that excite me about the show. One is the orchestra and the orchestrations
2:21
They are done by the incredible Phil Lang. And for this concert, we're inserting two songs that Barbara did in the movie
2:32
We're also adding the two songs that he wrote for Ethel Merman
2:36
And then we're adding another song in that Horace sang originally. And with all these new additions, they're being orchestrated by Larry Blank and Adam Jones
2:50
And part of their brilliance is they're so in tune and aware of the style of the golden age of Broadway
2:58
And I think everything is going to come together so seamlessly. And it really is going to be like the most comprehensive version of Hello, Dolly! one could ask for
3:09
So we're going to give you a little sneak peek. And the song that I was assigned gloriously to
3:16
sing is the song they added for Barbara Streisand for the film called Love is Only Love. When she's
3:22
getting ready to go out to the Harmonia Gardens and she has her silver gilded antique brush
3:28
and I'm looking out the window, a nightgown. It's everything I want
3:33
Maybe I'll wear a nightgown. We'll see. Horace Horace van der Gelder Mrs Horace van der Gelder just leave everything to be No it won be like the first time
3:59
How can it be like the first time? But why does it have to be
4:17
Don't look for shooting stars, for love is only love. You touch, and still you touch the ground
4:33
Don't listen for those bells
4:43
For love is only love And if it's love you found
4:53
Your heart won't hear a sound And when you hold his hand
5:10
You only hold his hand The violins are all a bluff
5:25
But if you're really wise
5:35
The silence of his eyes Will tell you Love is only love and it wonderful enough
5:59
And when you hold her hand, you only hold her hand
6:19
The violins are all the cloth
6:30
And if you're really wise The silence of her eyes will tell you
6:49
Love is only love And it's wonderful enough
7:00
Without the shooting stars
7:09
Without the sound of bells Without the violins
7:22
Love is wonderful Enough
