The real thing Life I like seeing Somebody from top to bottom
0:44
Fred Ebb used to say Can you do an act When you're writing an act
0:49
And you The first number You don't throw it away But it's not something that's really
0:57
really important lyrics that are because they're sitting there and they are looking at you
1:05
and they're saying oh, she doesn't look as old as I thought you about oh, look at those shoes
1:09
aren't those shoes nice and you're singing and dancing you don't want to waste it
1:14
you just want to make sure you look good I love that
1:17
will it make sense? because that's exactly what happens then you get a little
1:24
you get deeper when everybody just settled down and they've discussed you
1:29
She looks fabulous. I'm so excited. I can't wait to share the story, share this moment, share the journey
2:02
And I'm happy to be, I feel home. I feel like I'm home and we're going to start at home and we're going to kick it off here
2:07
I feel great. What an incredible way to kick this series off here
2:11
I mean, how excited are you to be making your debut here at 54 Hobo? I'm so excited
2:15
I know this venue, but I've never gotten to do my own thing here
2:20
So I feel very honored. And the people that were in the room today, I feel like, oh, my God, you know
2:26
I feel like I'm saying I'm excited all the time, but I'm so excited. Like, this is something I've worked on for almost two years now
2:34
So for it to finally be seen and presented, I can't wait
2:40
I can't wait. So what was it like standing on this stage, solo by yourself, singing to Chita Rivera and Bibi Newworth
2:46
I'm sweating just from the question. I feel wet. I mean, these are legends
2:55
These are people that I have looked up to my entire life. and I love that we're all here telling our stories
3:02
and presenting our new original works and our interpretations of this material
3:09
I think it's amazing. I love that this venue houses all walks
3:13
I'm new and up and coming and I'm here with these amazing, it's amazing. You're coming back to 54 Below
3:19
How excited are you? So happy to be back here This is such a great club The stage the lights the sound is pristine and the staff is wonderful And I have to say the wait staff here is fantastic
3:34
And really, they're kind of the most important people in the room
3:39
So, yeah, I'm really happy to be back here. And the crowd that comes to this place, they're wonderful
3:46
Returning here, so is this like part two? Talk about your new show. Well, it's been about four years since I was here last, and this is a lot of the old material with some new material, but all in the same vein of a kind of fairly eclectic mix of composers, but all story songs still
4:09
And they're all story songs in that some of them are linear story songs, like from a narrator, like Ring Them Bells
4:17
Or it's a story song in the first person, like Surabaya Jani
4:21
And then some of them are moments in a person's life, like Another Hundred People
4:26
That's sort of somebody in a moment in their life. And, you know, there's a story behind that
4:32
Something brought them to that moment. You know, like when you see someone on the street or on the subway and their behavior is, they're very full emotionally, could be any emotion
4:41
And you go, I wonder what the story is behind that. So I feel like some of the songs are that moment
4:49
And we're and we fill in our own idea of what the story is, but they are expressing something
5:03
Sing to any one note sing out with gusto and just overwhelm all the crowd Ahhhh
5:20
So sing Johnny OneNote out loud Sing Johnny OneNote Sing Johnny One Note
5:32
And I Christiane Nall here today
5:43
I mean, incredible. I mean, talk about Johnny One Note. What an incredible arrangement she did today
5:48
Yeah, Christiane Nall is fabulous. And all of us love to work with people that we love to work with
5:56
I am thrilled. This is America's greatest music, and this is the coolest kind of setting for it
6:03
I'm so pleased to be working with these guys at 54 Below
6:08
And it's called the Classic American Songbook Series because we just wanted to just lay it out there and just do it
6:16
Like the big party that it is. And the whole purpose of this is this is going to be three shows, one night only, two performances each
6:25
but the fun of it is that it's one in March, one in May, one in June
6:30
And so it's like a magical thing. It's there for that night. It's like the ultimate thing for our business
6:35
Transitory. It's there. It's fun. And then it's done. And these are smart little jewel box reviews created especially for this space
