In order to really capture the place that you're traveling to, you need to pay attention to what we call local character
0:07
This is the stuff that really sets apart the place that you are in. It distinguishes it from other cities or towns
0:13
So in Stockholm, what sets it apart is the harbors, the boats, the ferries, the alleyways, the really ornate and uniquely-styled buildings
0:21
In Amsterdam, it could be the cs, the boats, the biking. In Iceland, the nature, the thermal spas, the black sys
0:29
the black sand. In Hong Kong, it could be the ferries, the skylines, and the markets
0:34
In comparison to a contained scene like the greenhouse or the old town, this is going to be
0:39
stuff that you sprinkle throughout your film. It's just little details that set the city apart
0:43
that you're going to be coming across throughout your travel. Stop for a minute, capture the
0:47
rosebush, stop for a minute, capture the building, get a wide and enough close, and then stop
0:52
and continue your travel. Like always these same principles apply to photo except you going to be a bit more choosy The hanging plant might make really great local character for a video but it not necessarily something you want to stare at in your coffee table book Or maybe you do I don know
1:19
Just be choosy. Just make sure that you're selective about what you were photographing and that
1:23
you really want to take that with you to remember this experience
1:38
Okay, I'm finished with getting the local character here, and I'm going to put my phone away, put my camera away, and just experience it
1:57
