I figured it was about time to say something. Thank you all do much for your support. You mean so much to me. I wanted to come out to my parents and the internet because I hope that by sharing my coming out story and saying that I'm gay publically could potentially help someone else out there that's struggling to come out as gay, lesbian bisexual, transgender, or queer and needed to see an example of how everything will be okay in the end and that it does get better. This has been a long time coming
0:06
Hey you guys! So I have been planning on making this video for a while, basically ever since I started this new channel
0:13
But I haven't really been sure the best way or time to do it
0:17
And until like two weeks ago, I hadn't really told my family
0:21
I mean there's a lot of assuming and stuff going on and most of my friends knew, but I haven't really publicly said anything about it
0:29
and I've watched countless other YouTubers make videos like this and they've all been so inspirational and so touching
0:35
I never really thought I could live up to that But I figured this is what I want to do with this channel and what better time to be honest with you than right now
0:44
And the truth is I'm gay that feels so weird Just kind of saying that to the camera like a lot of times I've told people but I haven't like directly flat-out said those words
0:55
But it still kind of feels a little wrong to do And that's probably from my upbringing. I was raised in the South. I grew up in a Christian school, so it's always felt a little bit naughty
1:05
But the reason I am choosing to do so today is the fact that a couple weeks ago I actually proposed to my boyfriend of five years So that meant I actually had to talk about being gay with my parents
1:19
Now, my mom is awesome. She's always supported me. It's just I've never really talked to her about these kind of relationship things
1:26
So right after I proposed to him, we went to dinner and I came home and I was like, OK, I got to do this now
1:32
And I didn't get an answer. Great. That meant I had to call my dad first
1:36
By the way, my dad and I were never really close. We just haven't had that good of a relationship
1:41
But I figured I had to tell him because Facebook, family, everyone would see
1:46
And I'd rather him find out from me rather than some random family member. Hey. Hey
1:50
I didn't let you call you. No, I called you. I was just calling to let you know that I proposed to Justin tonight
1:59
You did what? I proposed to Justin tonight. Are you accepted? Yes
2:05
Okay, I guess. I just wanted to let you know. Well I appreciate it
2:09
I mean, yeah, I play. Oh, that's fine. It's fine. Of course it's fine, but that means your play
2:17
will stick it out a while. Yeah Oh well Well I swear it is So that how that went So after that I tried calling my mom again and I did get an answer I was calling to let you know I proposed to Justin tonight
2:32
You did? And you were gonna call your dad before me? No, I called you and you didn't answer
2:39
I'm so happy for you. Thank you. I'm so proud of everything you've got
2:45
Well, thank you. I wish you all the luck in the world. so that's awesome
2:50
So, we got a lot of planning to do. I guess it's official
2:56
I am out as a gay man. That still feels so weird to say
3:00
but I think the only reason I'm making this video for you guys is because when I started this channel
3:04
I really wanted it to be a place where I can just talk to you about whatever and be myself
3:09
Even if, you know, this video doesn't get too many views, I really hope that someone who's watching it right now
3:14
is either in the closet or only out to a couple people and they're really worried about coming out to their parents or their family and their
3:19
friends. And I hate hate hate to sound cliche, but the phrase it gets better is so true in
3:26
most cases. First of all, it gets so much easier after you come out to one person. And
3:32
I feel like in today age in 2016 people for the past six or seven years or so have been exposed to so many people They exposed to people who are gay trans bisexual It not as mysterious
3:43
or taboo of a thing as it would have been like even 6 or 7 years ago. So if nothing
3:48
else, I just really hope that if you're watching this video and you feel like you might be
3:52
gay, you might be bi, you might be trans, I really hope that YouTube or the internet
3:56
in general can find you some sort of peace with yourself and acceptance and love of yourself
4:01
And even if you feel like there's no one around you that's supportive or whatever, there's
4:05
always people on the internet who are just like you. And if you don't have anyone to talk to, feel free to leave me a comment or shoot me
4:11
a message on Twitter. I'd love to talk to you and just kind of share our stories
4:15
So thank you for watching this video. I know it's a little bit different, but if you enjoyed it, make sure to leave a like
4:19
I'd really appreciate it. Now would be probably a really good time to subscribe, especially since I'm out now and
4:25
I can probably convince Justin to be in more videos and do boyfriend hags, whatever all
4:30
the other gay couples do on YouTube. I hope you have a great day and a great week and I
4:35
will see you guys next video. Bye! Or gay. Gay
