Okay, so today we're going to prepare five different microphones across a range of prices
0:04
to help you answer the question, how much do you really need to spend on a microphone to get much better
0:09
audio quality for your videos? So of all the microphones we talk about today, if you have any
0:14
questions, want to learn any more, check out the links down below in the description. Obviously
0:18
you could get by with the audio recording on your cell phone, but you need to have your cell phone
0:22
really, really close. If you want to make a small investment or not so small investment, having better
0:28
audio can greatly help you improve just the overall quality of your videos. And so generally I record
0:34
with this road video mic NTG, which normally costs $249. It's great because I can plug it into my
0:41
computer. It has a long battery life. I can adjust the volume on it and it has a safety track. There's
0:46
a whole bunch of reasons why that's a really great microphone, but it's by no means the cheapest microphone
0:51
The next one is the Shure MV88 plus, which is meant just for
0:58
cell phones or to plug into a computer. I'm going to do all of the audio test and record
1:03
everything with my phone being that's what this is made for. So I saw kind of a range of prices
1:06
when I was looking at this online just now. My brothers had this for a little while, so he bought it a
1:11
year ago. But I saw it like around 219. I saw some less for 200, some as much as 250. So I don't
1:19
know if they've recently upgraded or something like that. If someone knows, let me know down below in the
1:23
comment section. The thing with this microphone, so there's an app you can use on your phone that allows
1:27
you to change to record kind of on the different sides of it. You can change the pattern of how much
1:34
audio it's going to be picking up at any given time. And then the other thing is it comes with an
1:40
you know, an iPhone connector, I can't think the word right now. And plus this little mini tripod
1:47
that's really heavy duty and sturdy. So the next microphone is the deity v. Mike D3 Pro. So this mic retails for
1:57
$199. It is another one that has also battery powered. This battery on this lasts for I think
2:03
50 hours. So you can get a ton of content and not have to worry about the battery on this microphone
2:09
dying on you. Then we have the VXR 10 from Movo. So this small shotgun microphone cost $39
2:19
And so I've seen some other videos where they compare this to a Zenheuser microphone that's around
2:24
a hundred bucks a deity mic that around the duo And a lot of people end up liking the sound of this one even better and it less than half the cost So there is a bit of a gap between this microphone and all the other ones that I talking about But you know this is kind of a comparison that I wanted
2:39
to make of $20 or $40 or $200 plus. And a $20 microphone is another one from Movo, which is
2:47
the one thing that lab mics frustrate me. I can never, they end up like this. But this cost
2:53
20 bucks. The audio is good for, you know, especially for the price. We usually buy the ones that
2:59
have something with this little battery piece because you can have it off connected to your phone
3:04
on connected to the camera. So this one costs 20 bucks. So we have a range from $20 to $249. And I want
3:13
you to figure out which one you like the audio the most for and then decide how much should you
3:18
really spend on a microphone. So I'm not going to tell you which is which. I'm going to go outside
3:22
test all five i'm gonna come in here test all five then i'm gonna tell you which microphone was which
3:27
and then we can talk about which was maybe the best sounding one if you had a favorite and whatnot
3:33
so let's get outside and get these microphones tested i'm now on my iPhone 12 mini with mic number one
3:39
how does the audio sound for this one right now can you hear anything outside right now
3:46
how clear is my voice coming in what do you think so should i say how much wood could a wood chuck chuck
3:52
if a wood chuck, could chuck, would. Do I want to say that for all of them? I don't know. So this is microphone number two
3:57
How does the audio sound for this one? Again, I'm less than arms plagued away
4:01
holding up my iPhone recording the audio right now. Am I going to be able to finish this before I gets dark out
4:09
It's not very warm out. I should have prepared better for this one, but I'm testing this because I want you to know
4:15
which microphone is best for your YouTube channel. Do I need to say how much wood could a woodchuck
4:21
Chuck, if a wood chuck, could chuck wood. Do I need to say that in all of them? Okay, so here we are with microphone number three right now. How does the audio sound for this one
4:29
Can you hear the birds? How clear is my voice right now? I don't know
4:35
Yeah. What do you think? How clear is the audio right now with this microphone? So how much wood could a wood chuck chuck
4:45
If a wood chuck could chuck wood. Okay, so this is microphone number four. How do we like the audio for
4:51
this one how clear is my voice can you hear some of the birds there's a motorcycle or something
4:56
driving by right now making a little bit of noise but i don know what do you think of the audio for this microphone so how much wood Could it wood chuck chuck if it would chuck could chuck wood I don know Happy Okay so this is microphone number five
5:11
What do we think of the audio right now? How do you think this compares to the other ones that we just heard
5:16
This, how's the, is it picking up a bit of the wind right now
5:21
Is my voice really clear? What do you think? Okay, so here's just the audio from my iPhone
5:27
Same distance away, no external microphone right now, just to have that as a baseline
5:32
What do you think of this? How much wood could a wood chuck chuck
5:36
If a wood chuck could chuck wood? Not so good. Obviously, the further away I think a shotgun mic makes an even bigger difference, given that
5:45
it's much more directional than the iPhone microphone, but how does this sound right now
5:49
Okay, so this is microphone number one. What do we think of the audio right now
5:55
Is this really clear? How does my voice sound? I don't know
6:01
How quiet does it get when I stop speaking? And what I need to say in all of them is how much wood could a wood chuck chuck
6:07
if a wood chuck could chuck wood. Okay, so now we're recording with microphone number two
6:11
How is the audio sound right now? Again, I haven't moved the microphone. It's a little less than arms length away
6:17
You know, shotgun mics at my forehead again. And maybe this is the lab mic
6:21
Who knows? How much wood could a wood chuck chuck if a wood chuck could chuck would
6:24
What do we think? Okay, so this is microphone number three right now
6:29
How does the audio sound? The mic is, you know, less than arms length away or the lab mic
6:35
I can't really tell you. It's pointed out my forehead if it's one of the shotgun mics
6:39
And how much wood could a wood chuck chuck, if a wood chuck could chuck wood. Okay, so here we are with microphone number four
6:45
How does this one sound? Do you like this? Is this your favorite? Do you have others you like more
6:51
The phone is less than arms like the way. The shotgun mic still out my forehead
6:55
Lab mic, maybe it's that one, who knows? How much wood could a wood chuck chuck
7:00
If it would chuck, could chuck wood. Okay, so here we are with microphone number five
7:04
I'm the same distance away from my phone still. And I don't know
7:09
How does the audio sound? If I am quiet for a second, how low does the audio levels get
7:15
This could be the lab mic. Is it on top of the phone
7:20
So how much wood could a wood chuck chuck, if a woodchuck could chuck wood
7:24
So what did you think of the five microphones? Do you have a favorite
7:28
Was it number one number two number three number four number five Let me know down below in the comment section Go ahead let me know So now that you did that I can tell you which one was which So microphone number one was the road video mic and TG
7:42
Microphone number two was the lab mic from Movo. Microphone number three was the mobile shotgun mic
7:51
Mike four was the deity mic and microphone number five was the sure microphone
7:57
phone. So after kind of going through that, do you have a favorite? Is there one that you might
8:03
be interested in picking up? But I mean, I think for me, the Road Video Mic NTG is one that I use a lot
8:09
I love how it turns on and off with my camera. I do think the ones that have a battery allow you to
8:14
get a little bit better audio because you can just see the levels as you're recording on your
8:19
phone or on my camera right now. And it definitely puts more of a signal, the signal is much higher
8:25
when it comes to, you know, your recording device. And so I think if you have to turn up the gain a lot
8:32
while you're editing the video, it's not going to quite sound as good. The nice thing is you're probably not going to distort the audio
8:37
because it got too loud when it was recorded. But so that's one of the benefits, I think
8:41
to the deity mic or the road video mic NTG. The other thing is the both of the mobile mics
8:47
I think sounded pretty good. This one, the shotgun mic, I think, you know
8:52
if I would probably choose that over the lab mic, I'm just not a huge fan of a lab mic
8:56
You can see I've got it down here and it's a mess. I'm not very good with keeping this organized
9:02
So if I could use a shotgun mic and I had $40, this is probably what I would do and be pretty happy with it
9:09
The sure mic, I think in different cases, can be really, really cool
9:13
if it's like to do interviews, to change the sound pattern. You know, you have this app
9:17
There's some really cool stuff you can do with that. But I think this, the tripod, I mean
9:21
I have other things that I would use besides this. I have the phone case to connect to a tripod
9:28
So I mean, you're paying for a couple of other things that you may not need depending on
9:33
you know, the types of videos you do and what you already own. The DD mic has just the longest battery life, so one with a battery and you don't have to charge
9:40
very often. That's a good option. But, you know, hopefully after going through this video, listen to the audio of each one of them
9:47
You have a better idea which might be the microphone for you. If you want to see more comparison videos like this, let me know down below as well
