John and Eric take a look at the recently complete Rookie Mini Camp. How did the rookies look? What stood out about the camp and the players? What roster moves happened afterward? Then a look back at the Giants Life videos of the draft, the trade up and what was so special about them. Brian Daboll, does he seem to be much happier this year? Is it just him coming back or is it more he has his guy in Jaxson Dart? How long before the Jaxson Dart era begins? Might not be as long as some are speculating.

welcome back to another edition of Inside BBI with John and Eric I'm John Mcdevin and with me as always senior
0:31
editor of Big Blue Interactive Mr Eric Kennedy And Eric we are continuing our positivity train We are moving forward
0:38
positively about everything with the New York Giants Well as positive as we can be The Giants just had uh their mini
0:44
camp We're going to talk about that Um a lot of stuff going on but first off how you doing my friend good Good And
0:51
besides mini camp we probably should talk about the two giant life videos that dropped So those were very
0:56
interesting Oh absolutely Yeah I I I I haven't had a chance to actually talk to you about those So yes we want to get to
1:02
that Uh so first off though one thing I'll say uh there was you remember when we were talking about quarterbacks
1:08
heading into the offseason there were different options There were different free agent options There was you know
1:13
maybe Matthew Stafford in a trade maybe Aaron Rodgers as a free agent There was all this stuff but then a possibility of
1:19
a trade was maybe the Giants might be able to pull off some sort of a deal for
1:24
Derek Carr Derek Carr retired over the weekend So the Giants avoided disaster with that whole thing So uh it's been
1:32
crazy in the quarterback world when you look at some of these other teams and the way the things have changed with the
1:37
Giants So as we went into the mini camp this weekend the Giants have technically four quarterbacks on their roster at the
1:44
moment Um and then instantly instantly everybody started talking about Jameus Winston you know as a as a trade
1:51
possibility to New Orleans your thoughts on on the that conversation that's been thrown out there Where do you think the
1:57
Giants might might stand on that or your thoughts on what you would do as far as that goes well my original plan remember
2:04
in the offseason going way back months ago was to pursue Derek Carr So that thank goodness the Giant that was my
2:12
that was my plan A for the Giants So thank goodness I mean that what a mess that is
2:19
um trading You know I can see both sides of it I would certainly listen Uh I
2:26
think the that the uh Cleveland Browns are in the same situation that we're in
2:31
And I think Picket has a relationship with their coach because wasn't Wasn't
2:37
Pickicket with in Philadelphia last year yes Yes Yes So I and they've got the same problem that we have They've got to
2:43
get right on They got actually a worse problem because I don't think um Tommy Devito's
2:50
you know got much of a future but the Browns are in a much more difficult situation and they got their vet that's
2:56
supposed to start They've got Pickicket and then they got two draft picks and they can't expose the draft picks So I
3:03
think you know if if they are interested and somebody offers some ridiculous deal
3:09
and to me a ridiculous deal would be a mid- round draft pick I would probably listen to trading Jameus Winston and
3:15
because I still see this as us still building something here and um I would
3:22
listen Let's leave it at that Yeah I would have to think there's there it it
3:28
would be too early The second you remove that other veteran the pressure for Dart
3:34
to possibly play the pressure for like the fans calling for Dart to come in if
3:40
Wilson struggles You insulate yourself by having the two veterans You can you
3:45
can really keep Dart kind of back a little bit Slow that that that boil that
3:50
that that role that fans are going to have of we want to get that guy in the games Uh you can slow that down you
3:57
remove Winston and if anything happens to Wilson Dar's the guy So you might be too soon So I I can't imagine the Giants
4:05
would do it before camp but maybe if they see enough in camp then you could maybe look later
4:12
on as a possibility But I I I would have to think that that they wouldn't they
4:17
wouldn't look that way right now just because again your idea is you really don't want to put Dart in if you don't
4:23
have to At least we think that is I mean that that might not be what Brian Daval thinks but I don't think you spend that
4:29
kind of money on two very well-known veterans to then just turn around and and put the rookie in and let him play I
4:35
don't think they spent that much money on either of them I think that's that's perfectly the financials don't prevent
4:40
you from doing doing anything I think the fans are already getting super hyper about Dart so I don't think it matters
4:47
to them whether there's one or two two quarterbacks And I do think we are
4:52
heading towards a somewhat of a quarterback controversy in the sense that Dart's very charismatic and and
5:01
again mini camps don't mean anything in the grand scheme of things but he
5:07
was he was sharp in the mini camp and he owned the stage when he spoke to the
5:13
media and he the Giants there is going to come a time when this is going to
5:18
have to become Jackson Dart's team And the question is does it happen next year or does it happen this year and they've
5:25
got two big personalities in the three big personalities in the room now at quarterback with with Jameus Winston and
5:31
and Russell Wilson and Jackson Dart So I would listen I don't expect them I don't
5:38
expect them to offer anything that would make me move him but if they said something crazy like a third rounder or
5:43
a fourth rounder I certainly would would consider it Uh we saw in the last draft
5:48
what a difference a third and a fourthrounder can make So I would listen I don't expect it and I would expect if
5:54
something happens it would probably happen with Cleveland first Um but I I think it one thing I noticed this
6:00
weekend all over social media more so on social media than and then on BBI but including BBI too is Giants fans are
6:08
getting super amped And um I I'm trying I I would caution that that to tap that
6:14
down a little bit but I I you can see that the excitement is building with this team So So let's let's take a look
6:21
then Let's start there Let's start with the mini camp that we just had One of the I for me and then I'm I just want to
6:28
hear your thoughts on this one particular thing The biggest thing that came out of this isn't isn't Dard It
6:33
isn't Scatabo It's the fact that you saw Abdul Carter doing all the drills Mhm
6:41
You didn't see a guy you know kind of protecting an ankle or a foot or you
6:47
know the shoulder He looked like a guy And by the way he looks bigger than his listed weight I mean he's he's a big
6:52
dude He looked like a guy ready to go The concerns about that foot at the at least right now to me aren't there right
7:00
and that's a good point No one's talking about that That's that's an excellent point So he was doing all the different agility drills There seems to be some
7:06
confusion with Giants fans about what mini camp is rookie mini camp is And rookie mini camp for decades has been a
7:14
orientation session for the incoming rookie class both the the draft picks
7:20
and the already signed undrafted free agents And it also has been a mass
7:25
tryyout period for players who did not get signed after the draft or drafted
7:30
and see if they can So the Giants did actually sign another tryyout player today It they signed a cornerback from
7:36
Mercer Um it is TJ Moore I believe is his name So so and then last year it was
7:43
Elisha Chapman So it's kind of cool that that that they do things like that And you know these these long shots do get
7:50
at least get a chance So we'll see if he he makes the final 53 like Chapman did
7:55
But that's what that's all this is And it's not it's not training camp It's not
8:00
even OTAAS So the one difference between rookie mini camp now and the ones in the
8:06
past is the that the vet that the the incoming draft picks except for Jackson
8:12
Dart don't practice in the seven on seven drills They do the the the agility drills So what you're referencing what
8:18
was a really good point is that Abdul Carter did all the agility drills and
8:24
the sort of the one-on-one stuff in terms of you know when they're doing things like pretending to do special
8:29
teams and things like that So and you didn't see any issues with the foot He they weren't send you know it would have
8:34
been kind of scaring people if he'd been sort of sitting on the side not doing anything Excellent point So yeah So that
8:41
to me was was a big deal to be able to see that to see and not just to see him doing it but he did it well Like he he
8:48
you can see the athleticism with that guy Again let's not go overboard They're not tackling anybody when nobody else is
8:53
trying to stop him But just pure athleticism from him You can see the difference between him and and when you
9:00
watch Kavon do some things Kavon is just a little stiffer and you've got a lot more flexibility more fluidity with uh
9:06
with an Abdul Carter and that that was nice to see So what are your thoughts overall g give me your impression of
9:12
what this weekend what we saw kind of the words coming out you I mean you've already talked about Jackson Dart and
9:17
the way he handled himself but I mean overall the impression of not just the rookies themselves of the draft picks
9:22
but the undrafted guys I think it was a really successful camp in in two senses
9:28
Um I think again Dart did participate in seven on seven drills and he was super
9:34
accurate and people are going to say big deal Eli Manning was a train wreck in his rookie mini camp He was so bad as a
9:40
rookie mini camp There was quasi panic in the media and in the fan base It was less in the fan base because back then
9:47
again the internet and all this wasn't as big a deal as it is now with with social media But there was legitimate
9:53
panic about how bad Eli Manning Dart was near perfect including on a day on on
10:00
the second day it was extremely windy and they had 30 mph wind gusts and he
10:05
was still throwing bombs down the field And I thought the other interesting thing again don't make too much too big
10:12
a deal out of it but all the wide receivers that they signed after the draft all made sort of flashy plays So
10:20
it was the Dayan Feltons and the Juice Wellses of the world Um Bo Collins and
10:26
and then the the slot receiver that they signed um from Gardenner Web They all made plays and and um that was that was
10:34
interesting And I thought there were some really good comments from the Giants staff themselves on their on
10:40
their programs Um Matt Sciteac and Paul Datino who are closer They can stand
10:46
closer than the reporters do and they can see things better They um I thought there were a couple the the one of the
10:53
free agents uh Trace Ford the undirected free agents they said looked really really good in the agility drills as
10:59
good as Abdul Carter believe it or not And he had a really good pro day So that didn't surprise me What's good about
11:05
that is he's coming off multiple injuries when he was in college but he looked really again agility-wise he
11:10
looked great And people say big deal Again there's a need at outside linebacker for depth Um they they
11:17
suffered unfortunately Victor Demuk Jay got hurt Um Torres Peek in the offseason
11:23
program We don't know how long he's going to be out but this is Trace Ford could really like value with Tamman Fox
11:30
for a backup spot here So that that was important And then they were really
11:35
impressed with um Thomas Fedon's um receiving ability in the in the in the
11:41
one-on-one sessions in the um positional drills I should say They said he looked taller than his listed height and he
11:47
said he they looked he he moved like a wide receiver and he was catching everything So again that seventh round
11:54
draft pick and he's a guy that you and I have talked about that has a real shot to contribute to this team So there were
11:59
things like that So again no hitting no contact nothing big like that The other big thing I ca thought came out of the
12:05
camp which may even be more important is this entire rookie class has personality
12:11
They were really I don't know if you had a chance to listen to their um media sessions Yeah all of them But even all
12:18
the way down to their last draft pick the quarterback they all very well
12:23
spoken very confident They have they seem to be getting along
12:28
with each other extremely well better than even previous draft classes that I can remember They all seem to be hanging
12:34
out and and very confident So I thought they they they're bringing in a whole new vibe to this team and again in an
12:41
important position like quarterback Um the one thing we can say about Jackson Dart is this He's the
12:47
anti- Daniel Jones when it comes to personality Right That's you know it's interesting too Again we talked about
12:53
this before I don't I don't want to I don't want to beat up on it I don't want to drag the carcass of Daniel Jones back
12:59
in here But there was a there was a malaise that hung over the team right
13:04
the 22 season was sort of the deodorant for what had been a few years of him already and there was the optimism and
13:12
that optimism crashed and burned on the opening night against Dallas in 23 It
13:18
never recovered from that the the the feeling of when he would step on the field you never got the sense that there
13:25
was a rallying thing for his teammates Talking about him in a positive light during the week is not the same thing as
13:32
guys on the field feeling like we're going to win There's a big difference between I like a guy I think he's a good
13:38
person then I think this guy's walking on the field and he's he's the he's a gunslinger He's going to get this We're
13:44
going to win this game because we got this guy There was never that feeling with the Giants If anything it was
13:49
always kind of waiting for that that you know that moment against uh against Seattle where uh where Dave Ball ends up
13:55
throwing the uh the iPad you know at Jones at that time You're just waiting for that one bad play to go "Yep here we
14:02
go again." And so it's just that feeling is gone It doesn't mean that the Giants are you know we know anything about what
14:09
they're going to do on the field It's just kind of a sense and you even get it from day ball Watch him interact a
14:14
little bit He's got a little more pep You talked about it last year He was dead man walking for most of the year It
14:20
just seems to be different Dave was a totally different personality
14:27
person during this mini camp I don't know if you saw the videos or the listeners saw the videos of him on both
14:33
days He had the biggest grin on his face He was he was he was interacting with
14:38
all the players and cutting up with them and completely different Completely
14:44
different And again what's what's different here i it's I mean to me it's it's Dart It's Dart over Daniel Jones
14:51
Maybe I'm reading too much into this but he seemed and and we'll get into it when we talk about um the Giants life videos
14:58
but it's clear that Jackson Dart was Dable's guy And that it begs a bigger
15:04
question Again you and I have talked about this and no we're never going to know the answer but was was Daniel Jones
15:12
fo foisted on Dave was I mean did were was he basically told you got you have
15:21
to keep him you have to play him and now that he's gone is this is this weight been lifted i don't know I don't know if
15:28
we'll ever know Um but he I he to me he was a completely different guy at camp
15:34
Oh yeah I I would say without a doubt I think you can even see it a little bit with with Carter as well And Carter kind
15:39
of brings that out Carter was a was a joking guy Now again they're all just the rookies The vets haven't shown up We
15:45
haven't seen Dave with the vets but I'm going to think it's kind of similar there too Don't forget the Giants have
15:50
continually over the last couple of years changed out a big core of the team
15:55
This is the first year I think with dayball here that they really brought back especially and we joke about it
16:02
especially on the offensive side they brought back most of the guys right which tells you they feel like the one
16:07
person that was really holding back the system was the quarterback So they
16:12
brought back a lot of these guys It doesn't mean they're all the best but sometimes you have to kind of play with your numbers and do what you think is
16:18
going to work So you got an offensive line coming back You got most of your receiving core coming back You've got your your running backs coming back
16:25
draft a guy now at running back You brought your tight end back in You got you draft another tight end So you've
16:31
got this stuff and you can feel the excitement It'll be interesting when you mix it all together but I agree with you Dave Ball was he he just seemed
16:38
different and it definitely I think you I think you can I don't think you can say it enough Like I don't think you can
16:44
overestimate or overstate the fact that I think Dart is the difference for him That's the guy that he wants doesn't
16:50
mean he's gonna play right away but that is the one he wants to work and develop and we'll see where that goes But that
16:57
excitement is there Well there's an interesting dynamic that's starting to build here So Russell Wilson is doing
17:04
and saying all the right things One of the thing cool stories I we learned this weekend was that he called even the last
17:12
draft pick the corner after he was drafted and welcomed him to the Giants
17:17
And he he couldn't believe it when he when he you know he picked up his phone It was Cory Black and he couldn't believe it when he picked up his phone
17:24
and it was Russell Wilson was calling And so Russell Russell must know at this
17:30
stage he's no dummy He knows he's not long for this team but he's still playing the good soldier and doing
17:37
things that I never heard other Giants quarterbacks do I don't remember Eli or Phil or anybody you know stories about
17:44
them calling the last draft pick on defense and saying welcome to the team So so there is an interesting dynamic
17:51
and part of maybe part of part of um Dable's um happiness now is again the
17:56
the offseason program has begun They are starting to throw we because we've seen
18:02
pictures of it in the offseason program and maybe he's seeing geez I got a real quarterback in Russell Wilson too So
18:09
maybe he sees you know Jameus Winston Russen Wilson and now and now Jackson Dart and he's got it like and you you
18:16
hit the nail on the head except for the draft picks They're bringing back the same team that they had So you would
18:22
think he'd be kind of depressed if if if they didn't think if they thought the other players were the problem but he
18:27
seems pretty happy So we'll see where this goes The big dynamic though I was getting at is when when and how do they
18:35
handle the trans the transfer from Russell to Jackson does it happen this
18:42
year does it happen next year and how does that and how does that happen again we saw this a little bit with you and I
18:49
went through this with and a lot of Giants fans went through this with Eli uh Kurt Warner to Eli but it's a little
18:55
bit different this time So we'll see what happens Yeah I mean the biggest difference of all of that particular
19:01
thing is that was Tom Coughlin's first year right so you know he he had the benefit of we were not really they
19:08
weren't expected to win Um he had the benefit of I'm trying to go as long as I
19:14
can before I I don't want to put this guy in when he's over his head And and the Giants put him in with a winning record by the way They were five and
19:20
four They were struggling a little bit offensively but they had a winning record And quite frankly they they had
19:26
teams that they were coming up on that I think if Curt Warner was still the quarterback they probably win two or
19:31
three more of those games But that goes back to the point that a lot of guys make in a lot of folks sorry a lot of
19:38
folks make about those those meaningless you say it all the meaningless wins The
19:44
Giants were coming off a losing season There's no such thing as a culture win at the end of a year when you start out
19:50
five and four winning a few more games when you're delaying the inevitable of the guy on the bench who's supposed to
19:56
be playing right so you you might as well put them in It doesn't matter if you win a couple of those games In fact it probably benefited the Giants
20:02
slightly that they lost some of those games and that helped them you know kind of go into the off season They were able
20:09
to pull in some when we know the the class that they pulled together in free agency that year which was a lot of fun
20:15
Um so you could see it's different though for this year You know Dball's coming off two consecutive losing
20:21
seasons and they were downward seasons We went from from a nine- win team in the playoffs to a six- win team to a
20:28
three- win team I mean it's it's it's got to be much better than that So I think the delay will be a little bit but
20:34
the pressure will be on if Dart looks good Yeah And it's hard not to look at this and make correlations Wait a minute
20:47
So again so you got two Old Miss quarterbacks but one was involved was
20:52
the guy the savior of the franchise and here's the pressure is going to be on the new guy to be the guy And I thought
20:59
that was a great again we may be looking back at that video years from now and go "Wow you know that that was that was
21:06
sort of foreshadowing things to come." So we'll see hopefully knock on wood but it Strahan was there also there and
21:12
addressed the team after one of the practices right you know Eli was there Um when when they did Giants life uh
21:20
Carl Banks made an appearance and congratulated Abdul Carter and reminded him that he was a third round draft pick
21:27
or Shane did that that Carl Banks was also the third I'm sorry the third overall pick right so that that was kind
21:33
of cool So so there's a lot of passing of the of the torch here kind of from the old Giants to the new So we'll see
21:40
how that works out Last time the Giants took a linebacker in the number three spot they they went to the playoffs that
21:47
year on a nine- win team after a three- win previous season Just saying I keep saying this reminds me of this reminds
21:54
me of 84 I I it's I don't I could be completely wrong I at the end of the year I could go yeah wrong again But I
22:00
just got a weird feeling that there's a lot of things that are kind of again it's the optimism We're drinking it I'm
22:06
drinking it It's fine So um anything else about specifically about the mini camp before we kind of talk a little bit
22:13
about the Giant Life videos which I I you know I know we're uh they were pretty darn cool Yeah Well before we get
22:19
into that just real quick So they already making you know decisions two of the the UDFAs that they had signed
22:26
before the draft and officially had signed the day before the mini camp they just cut minutes ago So Tommy McCormack
22:34
the safety and Delansancy the corner from Wisconsin So you know so they saw
22:40
these guys so they saw the other corner in the rookie mini camp the triyout player and said hey we like what we see
22:46
from him and they clearly said he's better than the guy that we got from Wisconsin So they've already made that
22:52
switch And McCormack was kind of a toughy because there was an article that
22:58
came out on uh about all the different UDFAs and he was going to go to med
23:04
school before the Giants called So I hope he can still I hope that he can still get in I think he was going to
23:10
UNLV I hope he can still get in the UNLV for the semester So he got cut instantly
23:16
So so they did make that and then the little Jordan Humphrey was cut and now he's back and that was clearly a roster
23:21
move So that so that was it with the with the mini camp I the mini camp I thought was really good We didn't have anybody any bad injuries no injuries
23:28
Like you said Abdul Carter was moving around The the vibe was good Everybody
23:34
said and did the right thing and Dave looked like a happy guy So I thought it was overall I I was pretty psyched Yeah
23:40
I I would have to agree with everything there Injury is always the thing you worry about And if you remember uh I
23:47
hate to bring his name up but a few years ago Cadarius Tony he couldn't even get shoes right couldn't get shoes
23:52
couldn't fit the shoes weren't right His feet had problems That was just a that was just really a precursor of everything that was going to come with
23:58
that guy We didn't have any of that We Everybody seemed fine They juggled the roster a little bit Um and then honestly
24:05
too the one that you brought it up and I won't mangle his last name I'll just go with Victor That's a tough one for him
24:11
because quite frankly he had a good opportunity to make this team and Chase Ford now coming in If you can get if if
24:19
Ford can be the guy you save money instead of paying the vet more money than you would pay the undrafted rookie
24:25
coming in And the Giants will juggle some of that money The money decisions are going to decide the bottom of the roster for sure Right So a guy like this
24:33
is a huge opportunity for Fort and it's a it's it could potentially be a very difficult and and and costly um injury
24:40
for Victor Yeah we'll see The he was on one of those uh low-end deals for a
24:46
veteran And they do make more money but it's not that big big a deal So I I hope he doesn't end up on IR already I don't
24:53
know Those pec injuries can be season enders right but we're in we're in May still so maybe maybe he can still make
24:59
it back So we'll see All right So let's switch gears and let's go to the Giant the the Giant Life videos which were
25:05
they were eye opening and fun and and honestly they were they were so much
25:11
about last year of what was what you wish Hard Knocks really would have been more just about versus the other
25:17
This this was good stuff Well what was your reaction to this wait I'm not worried about them as much as like is
25:23
Cleveland coming up at some point is this you i don't know where the Saints are going to come from Specifically if
25:28
it's a quarterback and you're weighing what do you want to give up to take the player it it's a quarterback So if
25:34
you're right you know a lot of times it really doesn't matter what you what you give up
25:40
I mean we can we can get it done in two picks with Denver I'm just trying to see if we wait trying to get as much
25:45
information as we can but Pittsburgh's a quarterback team but they're looking to move back too So nobody's going to
25:51
remember a third round pick if you're right So you guys are convicted in him You believe in him We did the process He
25:57
checked all the boxes Let's roll the dice Roll the dice So what was your reaction to that clip i think what the
26:04
my first reaction was I think a lot of people overreacted to the very end of that which says you know you this is
26:11
your guy You you know you did the homework on it We we and then he goes "We checked all the boxes He's the guy
26:18
We agreed." They a lot of people just ignored the we part and said "He's your guy." But I think right there they they
26:25
knew they decided right they three was never in question for a quarterback
26:30
Three was going to be Abdul Carter maybe Travis Hunter if Carter was gone I don't really I I don't know And definitely
26:36
would have been Ward if but we knew Ward was gone So you kind of knew three was not going to be one of the other quarterbacks but they had made up their
26:43
mind that they wanted this guy And I think getting back into the first round had been a plan all along for them They
26:50
were going to find a way to get back in I'm just curious for your thoughts What
26:55
was the who was the team they were talking about they mentioned Cleveland but that was after they had already said
27:01
somebody else They said "I don't know if they're going to be able to come up I don't Cleveland's the one." Oh this is the Well this is what Wait a minute All
27:08
right buddy The right clip Shoot I'll get into that one second Um he they said
27:14
at one part it was New Orleans and and the Browns they were worried about They
27:20
weren't worried about the Rams um drafting him It's clear now they weren't worried about the Rams drafting
27:25
him at 26 There was speculation but he specifically mentioned in a video the Browns and the Saints that he was
27:32
concerned about I came with that clip There was there's a lot to unpack in that clip And again they probably edit
27:38
this just like anything else and you don't know what's in the right order and all this other stuff
27:44
However contrary to what they said in the in the postdraft postp pick press conference
27:51
they were obviously thinking about even talking to Denver in front of Pittsburgh
27:57
to get out of Pittsburgh Yes And if they had done that there goes 65 So what I
28:03
don't know again I don't think we'll ever know Why did they
28:09
not do that deal was it because Denver didn't want to move was it they they
28:15
felt like rolling the dice and seeing how it played out now he think he thinks
28:20
Pittsburgh is going in a different direction But he in that clip he specifically says we've got something in
28:28
place with Denver but they didn't do it You and I when we were doing this live we were saying if they're going to trade
28:34
it's probably going to be at the Denver pick because it was right before Pittsburgh right so after the after the
28:39
draft after the he they picked him they traded up for him the press conference he said "No no we only started talking
28:44
to teams after the Steelers." Well that clip debunks that And the other thing is
28:50
is he was kind a bit of a nervous wreck And again I don't blame him but they
28:56
were clearly he was tr clearly trying to get his that trying to get Dable's guy And I
29:03
I will I will say a little bit contrary to you that he
29:08
seemed to be kind of trying to talk himself into this with Dable I mean I think he knew Dable really wanted Jack I
29:14
think we I think if anything we know Dable really wants Jackson Tart but his whole thing you're convicted Um this
29:22
isn't too much of a price to pay if you really believe in the guy He see almost seemed like to be trying to convince himself that this was the right move
29:28
where Dable was kind of and I've got a couple clips I want to show but Dable's reaction after they drafted him was
29:35
like "Thank you You got my guy." So I think there was a lot to unpack there Yeah I mean I first off the Denver one
29:43
does make me question though whether that was the team that they had talked about that they had a deal worked out
29:49
with all week long and then all of a sudden that team said "We're not we're not making a deal." So it could be that
29:55
Denver decided not to to move at that point Vikings too It could be the Vikings as well too because it was but
30:02
it's also the quarterbacks like when Sanders started dropping and and maybe the Giants knew Sanders was going to
30:07
drop for everybody else besides just them But when when once you got past Pittsburgh it became more of a waiting
30:14
game You could see that But I I'm I'm with you I I I don't know that he's convincing himself per se as much as
30:21
they know the cameras are rolling so they're kind of having a running conversation that something they've already done You know you already did it
30:27
You already made the deal cuz you wouldn't say giving up a third round Who's going to question giving up a third round pick that means you already
30:33
did it because you didn't know what you were giving up until a deal is done But he offered the same deal to multiple
30:39
teams right he offered deals to multiple teams It was he offered the same deal If you go
30:45
back and watch one of the clips he says "That's the same deal we offered." Right But but he couldn't possibly have al
30:51
offered Denver the same deal There's no way Denver would have taken that deal Right We're talking about after that
30:57
whoever it was because they did have a deal I I think is it the Rams that they had a deal kind of work and he goes you
31:03
know we're going to move up with you know with the Texans instead So they moved up one pick higher and they gave
31:09
away the the deal that they wanted right and I think I think that the
31:15
the Vikings pick I think they took Donovan Jackson didn't they i think the Vikings pick believe so I think they
31:22
were getting nervous I think I heard this over the weekend too I think I heard the Vikings were getting nervous
31:28
that the offensive linemen were going and they and Shane talked about that in the video afterwards about some
31:35
teams decided to stick and pick when they saw who was on the board
31:41
Yeah And it might not have been just because somebody was there that they didn't expect there They also might have been fearful of a run at a certain
31:48
position So I I I thought it was I don't know about if they were
31:54
hamming up for the cameras I there was an interesting interview on on Big Blue Kickoff Live where John Schmelk
32:01
interviewed the guy that was operating the camera He he's the one who does this So it was so he said what was
32:08
interesting is that you and he repeated this a number of times that there isn't much talking in the draft room which
32:13
surprised me He said there's it's very quiet in there and there's not a lot of chitchat and so he he was basically
32:21
suggesting that you know whatever sound bites he gets it's their gold and he has
32:27
to fight kind of fight for them I was I was so much surprised that they put as much in there as they did because they
32:33
had clearly showed that they were trying to get up to the number one pick They were
32:39
trying to get Cam Ward still And I know some people say that wasn't serious That wasn't serious I I do think it was
32:44
serious in this sense I think they had been talking repeatedly to the Titans
32:50
for a couple of months the Titans were increasingly determined to stick and and
32:56
and take Cam Ward Originally they might not have been We were hearing earlier on they were willing to deal and then the
33:02
combine came and they were like "Well no we're we're we're staying." And I think
33:07
they that he was going to make one more phone call just to see if they were bluffing or not And I think that's what that call was So people who say "No that
33:14
wasn't a serious phone call." I think it was a serious phone call It was just him one last time making sure that they
33:20
weren't they weren't bluffing Well I think I mean I think what you're saying is 100% right I I think he he made the
33:27
phone call kind of knowing nothing's going to happen here but that doesn't make it not serious because let's The
33:33
point that you make the phone call for is right What if your assumption was wrong what if when they pick up the
33:39
phone they're like you know what you know what we would want if we're going to move Would you give that to us right
33:45
so the Giants had to be prepared to go "We'll give you one this year one next year a a two this year and a three next
33:51
year and maybe a player Who knows whatever." They had to be ready in case But I mean the Titans just weren't going
33:56
to move But I do believe and I and I you know I gave you credit for that on on X I was like "You called it." They did I
34:03
didn't think they would I didn't think there would be even a reason to do it but they did They made a phone call and tried one more time which says that Cam
34:10
Ward was still the highest rated quarterback that they had Not only that but but high enough that they would give
34:16
up next year's number one in a in a more quarterback rich draft to to do that So I'm give up not getting Abdul Carter
34:22
You're you're not getting the guy the best player in the draft So some people are already trying to say well it's that's better that didn't happen or
34:30
whatever We won't know that for three four years So we don't know You know if Jackson Dart ends up being better than
34:36
Cam Ward then thank God it didn't work out But if Jackson darts a bust and Cam Ward starts becoming the next Jaden
34:42
Daniels then we're going to ru the day So we'll we'll just have to see that So I am surprised that they put that in
34:48
there but they did And they you know they put a lot of that they were talking to other teams and they they name
34:53
dropped So we know what GMs they were talking to You know they were they mentioned you know it was all first names but we know you know you can the
35:00
names are easy to put to put with the team So that was interesting And I wanted to get your your reaction to this
35:05
too So wait a minute All right buddy
35:12
me Good going Good
35:18
So what I what I was been was really watching in all these clips was I was
35:24
really looking at Brian Dable and Brian Dable's the force of his you know
35:32
and then his sort of like you know he's he's got his game face on He's got his kind of got you know he's got his tough
35:37
guy He almost was like he was like "F yeah," you know and and again we saw it here too Yeah Oh my god
35:49
Good job Joseph I mean that man's pumped Yeah he is so
35:57
pumped And he you can you can feel it I mean it's he's he got his guy And the one
36:04
thing I came away from and feel free to disagree was Jackson Dart was Brian
36:10
Dable's guy He wanted Jackson Dart And maybe other people in the organization
36:15
wanted Shadore but but Brian wanted this guy And it's interesting if there was a
36:22
back and forth on this the guy that's in the hottest of hot seats got to pick his guy So they at least said you know what
36:30
if you're on the hot seat they could have gone the other way They could have said you know Brian you know Brian
36:35
you're not long for the Giants There's no way in hell we're going to let you pick the next quarterback But they let him pick him Did you I I'm totally with
36:42
you You can see You could see the how not just pumped but how intense he
36:48
was about that's my guy You know you got him But what did you think of And it's
36:53
I'm not trying to stir the pot or be really off I'm just curious because everybody refers to him as Joe He
37:00
specifically called them Joseph It was just a weird It's a big deal That
37:05
to me that was a big deal That was a really big deal I mean my name is John It's not Jonathan It's not It's It's
37:11
always John But if if if I went by John but my name is Jonathan and everybody
37:17
calls me John and you go you know you know good going you know good job Jonathan I'd almost take that kind of
37:24
like hm you know So it's a little weird It's just it's odd and I wonder if they're as
37:30
buddy buddy as as we thought they were when they first came in together I I I take it this way I So so my daughter's
37:39
name is Margaret and we call her Maggie When she's in trouble we call her
37:45
Margaret but you call her Margaret too if she did something like you know
37:53
you're super super super proud of as well too Um so I took that I took that
37:58
sort of as like you know he was basically saying "You did it." You know I didn't take that as
38:05
sort of a sign of a sign of of of disrespect or anything like that So um I
38:11
thought it was a cool clip I love somebody who sells can sell that shirt
38:16
Somebody said it on the website or on on on Twitter Somebody said "I want a shirt that says good good job Joseph Good
38:24
job Joseph." So you know so I so I thought that was exceptionally telling
38:30
and I thought it was telling I don't I didn't want We're probably going to get into copyright issues as it is now already but the whole thing about the 50
38:36
days before when they had the um 30 visit when he came in and just the just
38:43
the banter back and forth between Dable and Jackson Dart And of course you can't watch that without thinking how badly
38:50
did Shadur screw this up when he came It must have been night and day difference How badly do you want to see that video
38:58
I so badly want to see how that went because it clearly went bad I mean that
39:04
the rumors that came out and you know when little things like that you could say "Oh that was just somebody's trying
39:11
to knock him down a little bit." Well he went to the fifth round So there was obviously more with other teams besides
39:17
this So I want to know the little bit that's leaked out How bad was it really
39:22
how much worse is it than we even know about right And because you watch what they do right and it's kind of weird
39:29
There's one scene and I I still don't really even understand what Dave was asking Dart to do at the He gave him he
39:35
goes "This is your last one." He gives him this thing He goes and he goes you know "Give me the toss." And he I'm thinking it there's probably only one
39:42
possible answer If he picks anything else you'd be like "What the hell just happened?" You're giving him some of the other stuff right it was kind of funny
39:48
Give me on this play What does You know you know what what's who's going to run the curl and he's like you know and I'm
39:54
just making it up now but he was like that's the why And who does it well once you eliminated like two of the receiver
40:00
positions you pretty much can just the rest should fall in place How badly as a quarterback must you have done in this
40:06
thing that you couldn't give it back to these guys It's one thing when they're just peppering you with if we do this
40:12
who's who's the one guy we can't account for and they'll be like okay it's this What would you do if you want to if if
40:18
we need to slide the protection what are you going to do you're going to call over So you get all these things I get that Those are things that they gave
40:24
them ahead of time and now they're giving you what do we call it how would we do it and they give it back to them
40:29
But some of this other stuff is just like patterns Once you got one or two of the receivers if you got the rest of them wrong I don't know what you were
40:35
paying attention to So Shadur must have been really off My guess is Shadore
40:40
didn't really really understand what that was going to be So Jackson said he had seen clips He didn't watch the show
40:46
but he had seen clips on Tik Tok of the of Dable quizzing people in in the um
40:54
previous year when they were at the combine So he said he kind of knew what was coming Shadure didn't do his
41:02
homework in the sense he didn't he didn't try to find out what this was going to be about So I bet you kind of blindsided him a little bit too And he
41:10
just again we've talked about before he treated this sort of as a recruiting trip you know what are you gonna do for
41:15
me right rather than what am I going to do for you so I just thought it was I
41:21
just think it's very interesting I there's a bunch the big picture things I came away from from this was this were
41:28
two things one it didn't seem to be as planned as I thought or was hoping it
41:33
would be in terms of the trade up because again they were still obviously thinking should we trade up before
41:42
Pittsburgh and I didn't think we'd see that because based on what they had said earlier So they seem to be sort of
41:48
feeling their way through the draft as it was going on which is a little it's a little bit disconcerting I you would
41:53
thought they would have come into this and said you know what we're going to not make our move until until we we've
42:00
heard that Pittsburgh is not taking a quarterback We're not going to make our move until after Pittsburgh But that clearly wasn't going on because they was
42:06
bringing up again Denver in in the war room But the other thing that that came out across from all of this
42:14
was what h so what happened in the building with the Giants with Daniel
42:20
Jones where again we see how they grade and evaluate quarterbacks So and we can
42:26
see how excited Brian Dable is with Jackson Dart And we can see how excited
42:31
Brian Dable was even working with the rookies last year at the combine when the camera we saw
42:38
What What happened i mean they they had Daniel for a full year before they resigned him I keep bringing this up Why
42:45
did they resign him they knew what they had in him So I I still don't get that I
42:51
still don't understand why why they resigned him I've heard the I've heard the the the rationale Gary's talked
42:57
about it and others have talked about it too You they had to resign him They won a playoff game They had no other choice
43:04
Well yes you do have another choice It would have been uncomfortable It would have looked bad but it would have been
43:10
the right thing to do We all agree right now right that resigning Daniel Jones was a hu huge mistake Sure Anybody out
43:16
there that thinks otherwise so don't tell me they couldn't do otherwise They could have done otherwise So that when I
43:22
watch this I still think "Wow these guys seem to have an idea what they want at
43:27
quarterback Why did why did they hitch their wagon to Daniel?" I I just I still
43:32
can't get past that It make it does make you wonder you know who was the ultimate deciding factor on that especially less
43:40
of less of the 23 off you know the 22 23 so the offseason going into 23 and more
43:47
of last year knowing how badly things had gone and how much he regressed
43:53
before the knee injury right you had a neck injury from previous a reoccurrence of the neck injury during the season
44:00
poor play up to that point Then blows his knee out against the Raiders to bring him back and to bring
44:08
back basically you know uh a Drew Lock and a Tommy Devito as
44:14
your only options really was that's the part that made you wonder like what the hell are
44:20
you doing it was one thing it's one thing off the playoff I I I'll give you I'll give you some Okay because you want
44:27
a playoff game and you're trying not to make it look bad and you're trying to send a message and trying to continuity
44:32
but the second year that's all on you Yeah And and again a year removed from
44:38
no you know what Russell we're not interested because we don't want an open competition to the following year
44:45
signing Russell Wilson So that also says a lot about Russell Wilson by the way too though Just do you
44:51
know what I mean the Giants turned you down last year and here you are looking for a job again and you come back to the
44:57
Giants who turned you down Yeah I think part of that is he didn't have a lot of choices but I also think again his wife
45:03
and where he is in his career he he wanted to be in New York I think they've made that clear too So um so but anyways
45:09
I thought it was interesting I Giants if you're listening I don't know if you are please don't stop with the first two
45:16
draft picks I tweeted at um John Schmelk and saying where's where's the rest of
45:21
the draft i hope they do the rest of the draft with Giants life but I'm I'm
45:26
worried there's not a part three on this I want to I want to see the stuff on the reaction to when they drafted all those
45:32
other guys because they weren't supposed to be there I would love to see the the war room reaction to getting Scataboo
45:38
and Darius Alexander and Marcus Bo I I I want to see that So I hope they don't I hope they have that I think you I think
45:45
you're on to something the the Scatabo Bow one is an interesting one because there must have been debate internally
45:51
right of which one of those guys assuming assuming that they both were still ranked pretty high positionally
45:57
where they were that they they might have been leaning do we take the offensive lineman now or they're kind of
46:02
running you know but some of the running backs are going you know and to then and then see the reaction of we were
46:08
considering Bo right at our fourth round pick and here he is in a fifth round And they did not they've done that before We
46:14
saw on the same Giants life a few years ago with Schmidz and Hyatt They had the
46:19
same debate They showed the debate in the in they said you know then that's why they traded up the because they wanted Hyatt at that point too So they
46:26
didn't think they would be able to get both Now neither one now Now who knows neither one ended up being the We'll see
46:32
Well again this is a big year for both of those guys So but um but overall again I thought you know the mini camp
46:39
good I thought the Giants life stuff was great I I' I'd love to see more I I the
46:46
last thing on the Giants life stuff is again it's too bad that everything is
46:51
still overwhelming Carter that overshadowing Carter Carter is still the head headliner here but we're still
46:58
talking about Dart That's quarterback It comes with the territory But both guys are to you
47:04
can see how they're going to be tone setters I think Carter on defense he's very intense He's much more intense than
47:11
Kavon Tibidol You get that through the videos And then Jackson Dart we'll have
47:17
to see how he does on the field but man you just he just gives off this really positive vibe He just I I I don't know
47:24
what it is but you can see you can see the difference between him in the quarterback room And I think that's why
47:30
a lot of people right now the reporters picked up on it too They were all saying "Wow this is a really different this got
47:36
a different feel to it." So they were all very impressed with this incoming class and the reporters that see these
47:41
guys on a day-to-day basis compar comparing it to the other Giants and the current Giants So well with that we're
47:48
going to we're going to keep it tight Um so we're going to wrap that up Like subscribe all that good stuff Wednesday
47:54
night we'll we'll let you know the specific time Eric and I are still talking about but we're going to we will come on live for the the schedule
48:01
release that gets leaked a little early So we're going to want and the good thing is is we're not playing Dallas in
48:06
week one The rumor already is that it's Dallas Philadelphia to open on Thursday night I like that Um it doesn't matter
48:12
One of those teams needs to lose and that'll be great I don't really care which one it is Um kind of actually want
48:17
Philadelphia to lose first just because you know Super Bowl champs we need to lose but I don't want Dallas to win It's
48:23
a tough one We'll talk about that later But again like subscribe all that good stuff And uh we'll catch you again real
48:29
soon
