all right Well welcome back to another edition of Inside BBI with John and Eric I'm John McDev and with me as always
0:31
senior editor of Big Blue Interactive Mr Eric Kennedy And Eric we always introduce the beer that we're having And today we'll just do a real quick shout
0:38
out to George went unfortunately passed away Norm from Cheers And I'm going with a Wicked Throat Charmer Hazy IPA Norm
0:45
passed away Oh I thought I when I said that to you before the show I thought you knew he went George W passed away
0:52
today Oh no Cheers Yeah No I did not know that Okay Yeah my bad So yeah So I'm going with the Wicked Throat Charmer
0:58
hazy IPA for for Norm and uh all those great moments of Norm What's I like this
1:06
i'm gonna have to go back and watch some of those So Oh that's too bad That's sad Okay Yeah So anyway we uh we decided we
1:12
were going to do uh some shorter videos on kind of a positional previews That's what we're going to call these for 2025
1:19
And for tonight we're going to do the running backs which doesn't have a lot of pieces at play It seems like a few of
1:27
them are going to be locked in but some very interesting storylines with with the running backs Yeah this will probably be our easiest one I think of
1:33
all the position previews I don't know if you that was intentional on your part but um and I don't want to speak for you
1:38
but there are currently six running backs on the roster and I think I think we have a pretty good idea how this is
1:44
going to go but um yeah so we I don't know how if you want to start off with
1:50
reviewing sort of what happened last year but but again it was we started the
1:55
year off with Devin Singleary as a starting running back that lasted four games until Tyrone Tracy was given the
2:02
starting job and he he was the starter for the rest of the year and had the bulk of the carries for the year And you
2:08
know overall given the fact that the we had no quarterbacks and the offensive line was a mess with all the injuries
2:14
right running backs weren't too bad last year Um um they averaged I think as a
2:20
unit around uh 4.2 yards per carry which is respectable I think it was 18th which
2:26
is right in the middle of the pack And um as a as a team I think we were lower
2:32
in terms of rushing yards per game And that that's probably a reflection of the quarterbacks not really running for many yards too So many of these teams now
2:39
that are the high rushing teams their quarterbacks are are running for a lot of yardage So So it was a decent room
2:45
last year and then of course we've added to it Yeah First first piece of what you
2:51
just said is yes I I I kind of thought we would ease into it with one that was probably going to be a little bit easier
2:57
to do Um yeah last year I mean let's start with really the the elephant in
3:02
the room was the whole here comes Saquon Barkley there go Saquon Barkley and all
3:07
the drama around that Exactly Exactly Sleeps better at night now um that
3:13
really that that kind of led into the season where you kind of knew no matter
3:19
what was going to happen the running back position wasn't going to be looked at by other people outside of the Giants
3:26
world it wasn't going to be looked at favorably It was always going to come back to well you got you let Barkley go right but we did you got Turbo which I
3:34
always hated when they kept calling him that but we had Devin Singleary and then we had we had uh um Tracy which was
3:40
coming on and you didn't know what you were going to have with him Um and then you've got you know some guys we you
3:45
know we're thinking about Turbo Miller might be able to his name sounds great Eric Gray was there another draft pick
3:51
It was kind of like a mishmash of stuff but ultimately came down to Singleary and Tracy getting the bulk of the of the
3:57
play and Tracy really surprising last year The only concern is put the ball on
4:02
the ground a number of times But let's be honest Tiki Barber did that early in
4:07
his career too right and there's some similarities in their body styles and stuff Um I think Tiki was a little bit
4:15
more angular He was a little bit more easily slipping things where Tracy tends
4:22
to he's a little more upright but he does have uh he has decent speed I don't think he has great long speed but he has
4:27
definitely decent speed Um your thoughts though first off before we get to any of the competition for this year What did
4:34
you think overall of where where they started which seemed like it was going to be Singleary and his connection to
4:39
Dayball and then Tracy taking over yeah it's interesting that you know the
4:45
we didn't really know what Tracy was going to be like because he was a lower
4:51
round draft pick a fifth round draft pick He'd been a wide receiver most of his career in college and some people
4:58
who were excited very excited about him were basing it on on that one year It's interesting the same people that were
5:03
really excited about him um that I follow are really excited about Scataboo
5:08
but they a lot of people draft Nicks were really high on Tyrone Tracy even though he went late They said he he's
5:15
one of their favorite guys to follow I I I was sort of in the camp of Yeah come
5:21
on He's a He's just one year one year in college and he's gonna play with the big boys now He I besides the fumbling he I
5:28
thought he blew me away I I I He's Yeah very instinctive Um he runs tougher than
5:34
his size and I and you know when I saw his you know he's not a small guy but he's not big and I thought he was fairly
5:42
physical running back with moves and he had some breakaway ability So um if he
5:48
can rein in the f fumbling and the irony is I think he had five drop passes last year So again some of this is rookie
5:55
hiccup type stuff Um when we get into the tight ends Theo Johnson for instance had some drops I always say with the
6:02
rookies some of this is them being overwhelmed a little bit too So let's see how this fleshes out But I thought
6:09
he was a good enough player that had the Giants not come out of the draft with a
6:15
running back I would have been a little bit disappointed but I don't think I would have been um devastated I I I
6:21
really like Tracy I I love our room now And we we'll talk about Scataboo in a bit but um to me Singleary's now kind of
6:29
been relegated to almost third string because I'm I'm assuming Scataboo is going to play sooner than later And um
6:37
Eric Ray was an afterthought other than kick returns And his biggest problem he's a little we'll talk about him a
6:43
second but uh more in depth in a second but his biggest problem has also been ball security And he they they just
6:48
don't give them he doesn't get any touches touches from the line He had 13
6:54
carries last year There all the carries last year went to three backs They went to I had to look this up They went to um
7:00
Tracy and Singleary overwhelmingly had all of them And then and then Gray had
7:06
13 touches um after that He barely touched the ball as a running back So So
7:12
and he had some catches as well I think he had about 10 catches So they basically were a two-headed monster but
7:18
they really had handed off the torch to to to Tracy And I I was really impressed
7:23
I And Singleary is isn't a bad back He's just I I just think that Tracy was more
7:28
dynamic I I would think I if if the Giants had their I don't want to say
7:35
their their their way but if they if their wishes kind of came through right you drafted Gray you kind of would hope
7:41
that he could he could show you something and then you would have a Tracy and we're going to get to Scataboo
7:47
and Gray and then you could kind of move off from Singleary if you wanted to because he's the one guy that's going to
7:52
command more money than the rest and he's not and he's really going to be second at this point unless something
7:58
weird happens in training camp and Tracy comes in and just does not take the bull by the horns Uh Singleary is going to
8:05
move down the depth chart And right it was interesting to see that Uh the one thing you brought up that I think Tracy
8:12
does need to work on a little bit the fumbles uh will will give that kind of a like you said it's a rookie thing He's
8:18
also not he hasn't been a running back for a long time So those constant hits carrying the ball it's a little
8:24
different But him dropping passes as a former wide receiver that that that's something that can't really happen If he
8:30
wants to continue to be able to be a multifaceted dynamic user in that in the
8:36
game plan he's got to be able to do both Um I would think and I'm I want to ask you your opinion I've I've made this
8:43
point before I would think the Giants would want to keep his his touches at least his full-on carries maybe not
8:50
receptions but his full-on carries probably within the same range of where they were Let's say give him maybe plus
8:56
or minus 20 He had 192 You don't want this guy to be a 250 260 carry uh back I
9:03
just don't think that's where he's where he's at physically Well I don't think that roster is set up for that now Anyways so that's the good news is by
9:10
getting Scataboo he his his carries may actually decline but his productivity may
9:16
actually increase That's one of the reasons why I like this room So I don't see I know we're jumping ahead a little
9:22
bit a little bit here but I don't see the Giants carrying four running backs I
9:27
see them stashing some guys maybe one or two guys on on the practice squad but I
9:33
I I don't think they're going to We saw it last year Eric Ray barely touched the
9:38
ball So now if Singleary kind of moves into that third role he's probably not
9:43
going to get a lot of touches And I you know I don't I wouldn't keep a fourth running back on this team I think you
9:49
can put guys like Eric Gray and um and Miller on the on the practice squad
9:55
We'll see what on Rashan Baker the the the um free agent that they sent who's a big dude too He's a big physical dude
10:02
But I would think Single Terry this might be his last year with the Giants And if everyone stays healthy I think
10:08
you're looking at three running backs with a really good depth and and you
10:14
could you could you could start one guy one week start another guy in another
10:20
week and I don't know if there'd be much of a drop off So and like you said now you don't have to give them each of them
10:25
a lot of carries They all can catch Um they're all good runners Um you know and
10:31
I still think we kind of underrate Single Terry a little bit here He's not he's not a great back but he's he's he's
10:39
been a very successful back in this league And if he's your third running back you've got a really good room So I
10:44
like the running back room I think it's f I think it's great You got the shiftier a little bit more explosive guy
10:50
in in in Tracy and now you've got the you've got the bowling ball and Scataboo
10:55
And what's going to be interesting is how they use them Do they go series by series do they go with the guy who's got
11:02
the hot hand is it situational you know is Scataboo the short yardage back but is he more than
11:09
that he can catch the ball He may have the best hands on of all the running backs right believe it or not Scataboo
11:15
So it's just going to be very interesting It's a fun room I'm actually really excited I hope they've got the
11:21
run blocking because I think this is a really good running back room Um I never
11:26
really felt like they got Seaquan into his groove
11:33
and I don't there there might be various reasons for that offensive line quarterback play coaching um Saquon
11:41
getting hurt a lot but this room has depth and if somebody get does get
11:47
nicked up you've got somebody to fall back on So I I'm actually really excited about it Yeah You know it's funny I was
11:53
I was just thinking I wanted to ask you your thoughts um how much of the running game is is going to
12:00
be I we're projecting but it's going to be opened up just from the fact that you
12:06
have in theory very competent quarterback play very veteran
12:12
quarterbacks and quarterbacks that if you just ignore Dart for the moment we'll and that'll be a whole different
12:18
show when we do the quarterbacks but just with with uh Wilson and Winston you have guys who throw the ball down the
12:24
field Right So you can't commit seven eight to the box When you had Jones and
12:30
and Barkley a lot of it was really and we've talked about it many times right in 22 the Giants caught a lot of people
12:36
off guard because it would be is it going to be Barkley carrying it or is Jones keeping it running once teams
12:42
figured out if I just stay home on the outside as far as the fake to Jones and
12:47
everybody else on the other side keys to wherever Barkley goes we can handle their running game We We got it more
12:53
contained their passing game wasn't going to beat us But with a Wilson and a Winston I don't think you can commit as
13:00
easily that way And neither one of those guys is going to be a running guy They're not going to fake the handoffs
13:05
and keep the ball So it is going to it's you're going to have to play the run or the pass but you're not going to be able
13:12
to sell out on either one What I'm very very curious to see is
13:18
what the New York Giants offense son's Daniel Jones is going to
13:24
look like Are we finally going to see what Brian Dable and Mike Kfka's vision
13:31
for this offense is going to be running the ball passing the ball because as you and I
13:37
have talked about repeatedly we never really knew what we were on offense And
13:43
I still don't really know what we intend to be on offense And that's a good thing in the sense that the teams that we're
13:49
going to face probably don't know that either So maybe we can catch them offguard a little bit But I hope they
13:55
come up with a with a plan here I could see us being more of a play action team
14:00
now That's something that that Russell Wilson's very good at So but is that the
14:06
kind of offense that we're going to run i I don't I don't know I mean but you make a great
14:11
point You saw it on BBI Big Blue Interactive You saw that on BBI this
14:18
week is you still got people lamenting and pining for Daniel Jones I don't get
14:23
it I I don't I I can't fathom I I was talking to this about
14:29
this with my wife earlier and she said he had six years How many right how many
14:35
chances did they give him i mean so I I still think in the the Giant there's a
14:41
group of Giants fans out there that don't really want to accept how bad our quarterback play has been for the last
14:47
six years And that included Drew Lock last year and it's included um um Devito
14:53
and and it's just been bad and and teams haven't been had haven't had to worry about our quarterbacks So like you said
15:01
if they have to start worrying about a Super Bowl winning quarterback like Russell Wilson seeing one-on-one
15:08
coverage and he's got Malik Neighbors or he's he's got Sllayton they may not have they may have
15:15
to back off a little bit and that'll open up the running game So will the Giants coaching staff take advantage
15:20
that that's what one of the big mysteries that I'm actually very curious to to see But I think they've got the
15:27
the the horses in the stable here I I love the diversity of the running backs
15:32
You've got again Tracy is the shifty guy Um Scataboo is the battering ram Um
15:40
Single Cherry is the the wy vet who can do a little bit of everything I just I really love the makeup of the room It's
15:47
got veteran experience It's got youth It's got attitude It's got toughness now
15:52
And the one thing that all these guys have to do though is is hold on to the ball They've all they've all they've all
15:58
had some fumbling issues Even Scataboo in his career So so hopefully the high and tight from the old Tom Coughlin days
16:05
gets gets preached into them So but the other thing too is this If somebody starts fumbling or somebody is not
16:11
having a great game guess what you're out of here And the other guys coming in So you talked earlier about Tracy's got
16:17
to clean some things up Well he better clean some things up or Scataboo is going to take his snaps So is that let
16:22
let let's talk about him for just a minute So he he's rookie coming in again another mid round pick guy So obviously
16:30
he wasn't wasn't a first or second round guy and so was Eric Ray A guy Yeah So a
16:37
guy though that he's kind of a jack of all trades I don't know whether which if
16:42
he has one particular thing that I would say he's just that but it's a lot of it is around his more like his attitude
16:50
Um I know I said it before he kind of reminds me a little bit about Ahmad Bradshaw He's got that herkyjerky
16:57
movement He's he's he runs a little bit bigger than I think he is So your thoughts what are you
17:03
expecting from him and then anything you're worried about with
17:09
him my I'll start with the negative first My negative is what some people have talked about is does his game
17:16
translate to the NFL and I'm I'm optimistic but it is a
17:22
it is a legitimate question He is so physical and he is a throwback and the
17:28
game is not is different than it was 30 years ago and he's kind of an old
17:34
throwback you know I'm going to run over you kind of guy right and I think some people
17:39
um ignore or have missed that he's pretty shifty So he he does he can make
17:44
you miss But his the reason why he doesn't remind me of Ahmad Bradshaw is I
17:50
don't know who he remind we've talked about this before I don't you said it for you I don't know what who I would compare him to He's he's almost built
17:56
like a fullback but but he's so shifty and he just people just bounce off of
18:02
him and he and he and his his center of gravity is so low to the ground The
18:08
first time I saw his highlights I was I was in the living
18:13
room My wife was in the kitchen and I was like "Holy shit." I was like "This is unbelievable." I said "You got to
18:20
come here and watch this guy It he he's got some of the best highlights I've ever ever seen." I mean fun too My My
18:26
favorite one of my favorite runs he had was it was an it was in a it was a red
18:31
zone run where he was running outside and there were two defenders who had him defensive backs At least one was a
18:37
defensive back I think one was might have been a smaller linebacker but they both had him dead to rights and he out
18:42
ran them to the corner shows he showed his athleticism and then somebody tried
18:48
to try to tackle him at the goal line and he just laid his shoulder in him and just the guy just collapsed and
18:54
Scatteroo stood over him just like you know like and it was like one
19:00
of the best runs I've ever seen for like I don't know it was like a five yard touchdown run but it was like holy crap
19:06
and and and in the playoffs he was insane So I don't know if you saw any of the playoff games that he had but he was
19:12
he was like a oneman because they were out with they were without their their um star wide receiver who's going to be
19:17
in the draft this year Um can't think of his name right now Jordan Um but he was
19:23
basically a oneman wrecking crew And um so I I I don't know who he reminds me of
19:28
I I I don't think it's Bradshaw I think he's got a unique style and and I'm really excited to to see him I also
19:36
think Brian Dable loves the loves the guy because when when he talks about he lights up So So I have a feeling that
19:43
Dable like he was lobbying for the quarterback in Dart I have a feeling Dable was lobbying for Scataboo And
19:49
what's interesting is the Giants had a number of running backs on the on on on
19:57
the table when they took him So there was like a run of running backs earlier on the second day of the draft and then
20:03
on the third day of the draft the Giants kind of started the run on the next group of running backs and I think Tuton
20:10
went right before Scataboo and but then after the Giants took Scataboo there was
20:16
a run on running back So like the Giants had kind of had their preference with quarterback they kind of had their preference with with running back too It
20:23
wasn't like the Giants settled on a running back I think they got the guy they were target and again he was a 30
20:28
visit All the Giants draft picks right except for Fedoni were 30 visits and Fedoni might have been too We just don't
20:34
know But but he obviously was a target of theirs So uh for me the I I
20:41
think you hear him talk and yeah I actually heard him talk about Dball I I
20:47
I'm on board with you 100% It's not just the way Dball talks about him It's the way he talks about Dayball and the
20:52
interactions that they've been having with Dayball that he You saw that today yeah I saw that with the K Adams thing Yeah You want to explain that because
20:59
people Yeah So So basically they were talking about this this this headbutt thing that was between uh Scataboo and
21:05
and Jackson Dart And yeah for those who haven't seen it um Jackson Dart and Scataboo have started headbutting each
21:11
other in public Yeah Which which there we go Um and then they met me you know
21:16
mentioned and K Adams goes "Brian Dable's gonna have to you're gonna have to step in and stop the" And then
21:21
Scatteroo says "Dall is a big part of he goes called them little." That little guy is is you know all part of a and I'm
21:28
thinking he's shown so much excitement around this this rookie
21:34
class overall That might be a very good thing but it also might be like um are
21:41
you tethering your coaching career to this class that just came in and that's why you're so excited that's for another
21:48
day But Dball seems very very very excited I see Scataboo as a guy that is
21:53
going to compete for time I don't know if he's going to compete to possibly start I think Tracy Singleary those guys
21:59
are probably but I don't think starting is going to matter so much as we move forward I think it's you know I think
22:05
it's semantics you know like it doesn't matter It was just who was out there first Um
22:11
my question though is we know there's three You say there probably won't be
22:17
four I agree If there was a true fullback maybe we would do four and the
22:22
fullback would be four but they're going to use tight ends When we do that group I think we'll be talking about that's
22:28
going to be the fullback essentially That's one of the reasons why I think they're going to have three I think they're going to carry more tight ends
22:34
That's my prediction I don't know if that's going to be accurate but I think they're going to carry more tight ends and they'll have to carry fewer running
22:39
backs So do you see any chance that any of the other guys that that we are kind
22:45
of talking about right now could knock Singleary out of the 30 because you're not getting rid of Scataboo You're not
22:51
getting rid of Tracy They're young They're cheaper It's just not happening Singleary is the one guy that
22:56
potentially the Giants still need to make up more more room on the on the salary cap It's not that they're in bad
23:02
shape salary cap wise They just need to adjust some contracts for this single year Next year they're in really good shape But Singleary is a guy though that
23:10
on on the numbers wise if if he's equal like let's say Eric Gray tears it up in
23:15
camp and the Giants are like man Gray's really come in Could he unseat a single
23:21
could a Miller unseat single if Singleary is going to be the three it would have to be something like that It
23:27
would be have to be one of the other three guys is clearly better because I think there's a comfort Well it's
23:32
stating the obvious because Dable brought him back Dable had him in Buffalo and then they brought him brought him with him to New York There's
23:39
a comfort level with Dable and Singleary And I think there's an advantage to having a veteran in the in the room with
23:46
the Scataboo And still Tracy's still a very young player So I would I be shocked no But I expect
23:54
Singleary to make this team unless something happened like like you just said The one thing I do want this Eric
24:01
Ray gets a lot of grief and again I know I'm one of his few few defenders out there
24:07
and I went back and watched his college tape because I wanted to see and I
24:13
talked to Sai about this offline a little bit too and and I'm like what what what is going on with Eric Gray
24:20
because Eric Gray doesn't look like the same player he was in college to me and
24:25
I don't know if it's he missed a month last year because he had he got hurt I think it was a calf injury but I'd have
24:31
to double check that But he had he missed a month last year and he only touched the ball you know running the
24:37
ball 13 times and they've really pretty much put on kick returns which is
24:42
something he never did in college Again you and I have talked about this over the years about the number of coaching
24:47
curious coaching decisions this team has made You know not getting ready for the the opening game and and and and kicking
24:54
issues and stuff like that One of the other ones is the not having a kick returner and a punt returner And finally
25:01
they got one the last couple years and we saw what what a difference it makes But they still have him returning
25:07
kickoffs which I don't think he's terribly comfortable with doing that So I think Giants fans understandably
25:13
conflate the the kick return lows and there have been many I think he's got
25:19
five or six fumbles and say the player sucks Well I don't like the fact the
25:25
coaches have put the player in in a position that he's he's clearly not suited for And I still think there's
25:31
talent there When he played last preseason I don't know if you remember but he had some really good preseason
25:37
games last year I think it was against Detroit Detroit It was against Detroit He had a huge run for a touchdown He had
25:42
a great catch out of the back field So so if your scenario was to happen I
25:49
think it would have to be somebody like Eric Gray really finally showing why the
25:54
Giants drafted him in the first place And if he does that that's fantastic My guess is this is Eric Gray is fourth
26:01
string on the depth chart in camp He doesn't get many touches He gets a few
26:08
touches in the preseason The Giants feel like they can cut him and put him on the practice squad And then if somebody gets
26:14
hurt like a Tracy or Scataboo or Singleary they could safely bring him up from the practice squad That's my guess
26:21
is what's going to happen But your scenario is not impossible but it would have to be like you said one of these
26:26
guys like like him or and and Dante Miller is a fan favorite Um even though
26:32
he hasn't done any he hasn't done anything yet because he's so fast you know and again that that speed is is
26:39
there I mean he's he's the fastest He's the fastest I I mean I think it's easy to say he's the fastest running back on
26:44
this team You but but it but running the football is more about than speed too
26:49
But but uh Turbo Miller is another guy I I don't like Turbo I should say Dante Dante Miller is another guy that could
26:56
end up on the practice squad too I these are the kinds of guys that I don't think other teams are going to be clamoring for is my guess If you cut a a Dante
27:03
Miller and an Eric Gray I think you can you can stash them That's my opinion You
27:09
may feel different No no no I I I'm 100% In fact I was going to ask you
27:14
this If the Giants felt like they needed a different kind of player at the
27:23
position could you see them in camp as players are being cut or released maybe bring in
27:31
a different veteran in who brings let's say size maybe a 230 a 240lb guy that
27:38
they can bring in and they could use as a a short yardage guy a goal line guy if they wanted to If they wanted a
27:44
different type of back because really if you look at it Tracy Scataboo and
27:50
Singleary they do things slightly different but they're all roughly in the same group There isn't one of them
27:56
that's like 195 or 245 They're all kind of right around in that same size same
28:02
type of body same type of usage ability Scataboo would be the one maybe a more
28:07
physical but that's more mentality than it is just pure size So could you see them possibly maybe bringing somebody
28:14
else in who's just a completely different back no And I don't think that there's a big big difference in body
28:19
type from Tracy and Scataboo Uh they may be listed like the same general weight
28:25
and height And I mean Scataboo is like they they list him at 510 on Giants.com
28:30
He's closer to 5'9 He's he's he's a short dude Um what is it Tracy tracy's
28:36
510 or 5'11 I can't 5'11 5'11 He's 210 and and Scatteraboo is 225 And look
28:42
Scataboo is not Some Giants fans who haven't seen Scataboo play are going to say he's a he's a he's a situational
28:48
short yardage runner He's not He's more than that But he can be that guy too So I I I can't see any world where unless
28:55
there's an injury the Giants bring in another running back at this stage I think if anything they've got too many
29:01
running backs and not enough carries at this point So I think they're going to carry three and they've got their three
29:07
Again knock on wood no one gets hurt but I think they've I this is the going to be the easiest preview I think that we
29:13
have I think it's it's the three guys we know they are if they stay healthy are going to be the opening day starters I
29:19
mean opening day players and and and I I would be shocked if they weren't and I
29:26
would be a little bit shocked if one or two of the other guys aren't aren't put on on the practice squad And the other
29:31
guy we should not completely discount is Rashawn Baker and um from Elon
29:38
University And um he's an interesting guy He's a big physical guy He's more like the guy that you were just talking
29:45
about You know he's a bigger guy more of that big big if you wanted a big back a
29:52
different body type He's got the different body type He's a big dude and
29:57
he is um someone again I don't think they're going to put three running backs
30:03
on the practice squad but he's a guy who could contend for a spot And then the other long term is this is is um Devin
30:11
is probably Wouldn't you think this is going to be his final year oh yeah without a doubt So they got to think
30:17
which of the other three if any might be the number three running back in 2026 I
30:23
mean I don't they're only going to have six draft picks next year I don't think they want to spend another draft pick on a running back next year unless there's
30:29
somebody really really good out there But I I I think they're gonna want to um
30:36
hopefully have one of the other guys on the other three guys stick around and be
30:42
the number three three dude next year And it could be Rashan It could be still again Eric Gray and um um it could be uh
30:50
Dante Miller We'll have to see What will set a lot of this apart too and then people are going to say we didn't bring
30:56
it up so I want to bring bring it up now is pass protection Whoever's really good in passion is gonna probably play more
31:03
as well too That's the one thing I'm very curious in Scataboo Some people have said he's not great at it Other
31:09
people say he is Um he certainly has the demeanor if he's headbutting he's
31:15
headbutting people left and right He's probably should have the physical instinctiveness to be want to you know
31:22
he's not shying away from contact So we'll see So I'm excited about this This is one of the my favorite position
31:28
groups now on the Giants And I'll be honest with you even when Saquon was there other than his rookie year look
31:34
when Saquon had his rookie year I thought we were set for a decade And that just shows you how things can can
31:39
can um spiral out of control so quickly in the NFL And then he kept getting hurt
31:46
And then he finally kind of rebounded in 2022 And then again he kind of got hurt again last year And we all a lot of us
31:53
weren't really upset he was gone last year And we all said the same thing pretty much If he stays healthy he'll be
31:59
great in Philadelphia And that's what happened He stayed healthy We a lot of people expected him to get hurt And for
32:05
the third time in his career he didn't get hurt last year So that always kind of bothered me that we were relying on a
32:12
a star running back who who kept getting hurt And once he got hurt the whole offense collapsed Now we got a room that
32:20
if somebody gets hurt somebody else can pick up the slack Well you know and not to beat a dead horse It's a conversation
32:26
we had multiple times I still don't really care what he did with Philadelphia It wasn't applicable to
32:33
what he would have done with the Giants last year Would would they have gone to the Super Bowl with Barkley no Would
32:38
Barkley have had the the numbers that he had with the Eagles that with the Giants last year no And it's it's all
32:45
circumstance right and it's it's it's system it's moments it's it just collectively that was the best spot for
32:52
him A team built around a very big offensive line a very physical offensive line a very deep offensive line but also
32:59
with a lot of weapons and a quarterback with weapons and a quarterback that can run weapons Yeah And so that just opens
33:05
up But when you suddenly make him the only guy it's a whole different world So
33:12
yes I it's disappointing on how things went with the Giants It's too bad I kind of like where we're at I'm with you I
33:19
like the committee piece that we have I like the fact that I don't really know which guy is going to be week I do like
33:25
the fact too that Russell Wilson throws a pretty good ball to the outside coming out of the back field He keeps got some
33:31
looping nice passes to backs And the one thing we've always said is the biggest problem not to bring up the carcass one
33:38
more time but one of the biggest problems with Daniel Jones is lots of his passes never led anybody anywhere
33:43
They were at the person but not leading them Thus reducing the ability to make
33:48
yards after the catch Wilson's going to hit you in stride Wilson's going to give you a ball that lets you continue going
33:55
forward And our backs are going to get a much better chance We've been horrible horrible with screen passes for
34:02
I mean even with Eli we were not good So we have been really bad and I kind of
34:07
feel like now Wilson Ken I don't know about Winston but I definitely know Wilson Ken That's a really excellent
34:13
point John that he is Again we've been talking about the moon balls and he's
34:19
not well he hasn't historically thrown a lot over the middle but he does throw in
34:24
the flats a lot So he's very good at running throwing to the running backs out of the back field and that fits our
34:30
offense right now Guy that's it's again we'll have to see but Juan Dale is
34:35
probably not going to be thrilled with this but um we'll see We we'll see And we've got some big tight ends now with
34:42
with big catch radiuses And we'll talk about that in our next in our next preview which will be the tight ends And
34:48
so I I'm excited about that There are things about this team that I'm actually really looking forward to I'm looking
34:54
like the carcass is not it's not there anymore And that in itself has got me excited about the Giant I think people
35:01
have picked up on on on the site I'm more excited about the Giants than I've been in in years because consciously or
35:09
subconsciously I know that they're a better team right now So we'll see The the schedule's a We've already
35:16
talked about it You you you're in a different place than I am about that It is what it is You can't you have to deal with it But I really like to make up the
35:22
last thing I will say to wrap this up is a point that you made earlier in this
35:28
video and it will tie into one of our upcoming specials which is going to be previewing the or reviewing the 1984 New
35:36
York Giants season with we're going to have Larry and Matt on and that's going to be a lot of fun and and doing a
35:43
little bit of reading on that season because to just refresh my memory is um
35:48
one of the reasons Parcels um turned over that roster between an 83 and 84 is he
35:57
wanted you and I have talked about it more like get the stink of the losing off of off of the team He wanted new
36:04
guys with a fresh perspective He wanted his guys and you talked about earlier in
36:10
this video about is Dable maybe getting some of his guys now better or worse
36:15
they're bringing in some more of his guys So I feel almost that there's a parallel there that you've brought up
36:21
before with the 1984 Giants about is this going to be a sim somewhat similar There is a similarity in this sense is
36:28
Dable these these rookies these young this young class may have a
36:33
psychological impact on on the on the New York Giants too So Scataboo might
36:38
bring toughness and an attitude to this team And um there uh Alexander the the
36:46
defensive tackle the same thing He may bring again a new presence in the in
36:51
middle of the defense We're not talking about him enough So we'll we'll see So it's it's a it's a fun it's a fun group
36:58
and I'm looking forward to it So with that if you could uh comment in
37:04
uh in in the comment section you know who are your running backs are you going with three are you going with four who
37:09
are your four uh who do you think's going to be the starter anything you want to talk about did what did we miss
37:14
did we miss something with the backs uh what what's your thoughts on where the Giants are with the running backs we
37:20
want to kind of keep that going I like the there's been a lot of comments We try to keep up on them too So if sometimes if we don't don't take it
37:26
personal So I'm trying to I am trying to keep track of a lot of different things at the same time But we will we will
37:32
continue to stay up there But if you can comment on that I might do a poll uh on the Spotify one I usually add a poll on
37:38
Spotify but uh definitely uh keep it up And uh yeah I'm looking forward to the 84 one for a lot of reasons And uh what
37:45
you got there buddy just question Who's your starting running back on opening day uh Tyrone Tracy Yeah it's mine I'm
37:52
going with that I minus minus injury Tyrone Tracy I think I think Tracy is
37:57
the the the what he did last year I think is just a tip of the iceberg of
38:02
what the Giants think they can do with him Uh and that offensive line just
38:08
assuming it's healthy and we have a solid five which I worst case scenario
38:13
Van Roen's the guard from last year back again right but other than that if you have if one of the other guys steps in
38:19
if Neil becomes a big road grader running block you know guy at guard I
38:24
don't know about his pass blocking but if they get something like that out of there somebody like Tracy's really going
38:29
to start seeing some holes that he can exploit And I think with Russell Wilson that opens up So I think it's Tracy they think and they those two first games
38:36
they got to they got to try to win they got to try to win those first two games and you kind of and you throw a rookie in there that makes you a little more
38:42
nervous So again I think I think Scataboo is going to play and I think he's going to play in a very important
38:48
role but when they're going to be on the road and they're and that stadium's going to be rocking those two stadiums
38:55
both are going to be rocking because we're we're the home openers for both those teams and right Dallas we're the
39:00
home opener for Dallas as well too Yeah we're on the road for both games Yes Dallas But that's Dallas Dallas is at Philly week one So it's their home
39:07
opener So those stadiums are going to be rocking I think they want the vet in their start So but I'll do one I I'll
39:14
throw one other thing in there 1989 the Giants open up in Washington on
39:20
a Monday night Oh yeah That was one of my favorite games It is a round running back Dave Meget who catches a pass over
39:27
the middle breaks a tackle by Monty Coleman and he's off to the races for a touchdown We have a fourth round running
39:33
back who we just drafted and a fifth round running back from last year So just you know just the old wy veteran OJ
39:41
Anderson was the one who really set the tone in that game and why one of that's
39:46
one of my favorite games is the local Washington DC announcer for the on the
39:52
sports um sports show um said predicted he said there was no way the Redskins
39:59
were going to lose to a team with a running back as old as OJ Anderson starting and and and you know how that
40:06
game ended with that long field goal Oh yeah Raul It was like 50 54 50 52 52
40:13
Yeah And and that was a great game Yeah that was a great game Man I love going back in time I just love I just That was
40:19
a game the Giants were not supposed to win either So So And they were and they were gassed at halftime The Giants
40:25
defense LT had to get an IV at halftime He was all over the field but he was owning Jim Lache in that game So that's
40:32
something to remember as well Yeah that was a great game Okay So with that like subscribe all that good stuff We're
40:38
really growing Um I I haven't even talked to Eric about this yet but I had a a a podcaster who does who's a does
40:45
scouting NFL scouting has his own show and they are Detroit Lions related has
40:50
reached out to us and they want to collab They want to collaborate So we got a lot of stuff I'm I'm looking forward to it But like subscribe We'll
40:58
catch you again real soon
