Mara, Schoen And Daboll's Coming Back Press Conferences - Rearranging Deck Chairs On The Titantic!
Jan 9, 2025
John and Eric take a deeper dive into the press conferences of Owner John Mara, General Manager Joe Schoen and Head Coach Brian Daboll. What can we take from these hastily done press conferences. Who is being honest, who is being dishonest and quite frankly what does it all mean.
Where do the Giants go from here? Will there be staff changes after Mara called out the Giants defense as NOT VERY GOOD. What about the play calling now that it seems obvious Daboll will not be doing it in 2025?
Is there any hope for 2025? They have a brutal schedule (or do they?). Who will be the Giants Quarterback- some names may surprise you! A lot will be decided over these next few weeks.

Titanic will founder but this ship can't sink she's
0:06
made of iron sir I assure you she can and she
0:16
will well I believe you may get your headlines Mr Isme prepare to
0:24
lower ready on the left
0:33
take them down
1:02
all right well welcome back to another episode of inside BBI with John and Eric I'm John mcdevit and with me as always
1:08
senior editor of Big Blue Interactive Mr Eric Kennedy and Eric we've had a couple of days to digest the news the shocking
1:16
news of we're not going to do anything different yeah and uh I got my notes I
1:22
went through all three interviews and I again we always say we don't want to make this too long so
1:28
we'll try not to people keep I'm going to stop saying that so too late um yeah
1:33
so um I know you wanted to focus in on the last two interviews so so those who
1:41
don't know Mara came out and spoke first which we were surprised because um that
1:47
wasn't announced he just came out that morning and spoke and it would seemed kind of thrown together because he
1:52
wasn't on a um in a conference room or anything like that it was just done in the uh indoor practice facility then uh
2:00
they rolled out dble after that and then they rolled out Shane so um John wanted
2:06
to focus more on the dble and Shane ones but I I do want to touch on the Merl one
2:12
before we move on he did say some things that I think influence the other two
2:18
discussions and that are important so if that's okay with you I no no no yeah no hey we're we're we're collaborative
2:24
effort here I actually I think that's a good idea because I relistened to the last two again and there were a couple
2:31
things I picked up where I'm kind of like huh I'm curious so let's start with in I guess we'll go kind of in
2:37
chronological order yeah that would makes most sense yeah and I won't stay too much on Mara
2:42
but there were a few things in there that I think we should emphasize because the timeline's interesting so as you
2:50
were speculating and we didn't know I don't think we knew at the time because we hadn't seen the transcript and really
2:55
digested the interview they did meet on Friday so they did not meet meet after the game they met on Friday and they
3:02
said it was a long sitdown meeting that Mara had with dble and Shane apparently
3:08
Shane admitted later on he was in the he was in there as well too so but I think it was focused on dble um just something
3:15
that's in the back of my mind too I wonder I wonder if there's any tension now between DAV and Shane at this point
3:22
because I think one was more safe than the other and you have to wonder a little bit if one might have thrown the
3:29
other under the bus a little bit to save one's own one's own neck so I don't know if that happened maybe not but I'm
3:35
wondering if there's a little tension there as well but so they did meet on Friday they had a long meeting and then
3:42
Mara said he spoke to Tish I'm assuming over the phone and then they said they talked again so the decision was made I
3:51
think before the game that and I think he said that I look at the exact quote he said
3:57
um he spoke to Tish over the weekend and then we came to the decision that staying with both of them is the best
4:03
course of action right now so and he said I liked what I heard from them on
4:08
Friday afternoon I like their plan going forward and we're going to stay with it
4:14
but he said he wasn't going to go into the details he wouldn't share that with the reporters so D then said and we'll
4:21
talk about D well before before you go to that one I think there key key words were said right there that you just read
4:26
that if you think about it now that we've heard from all three right it seems to make more sense we've
4:33
decided to to bring both of them back right the key there to me sounds like we
4:41
heard before I think it's true I think Shane was already locked in and his comments again we're going to talk about
4:47
Shane last but Shane's comments Shane was pretty convinced that he wasn't even on he wasn't even at risk maybe he
4:55
putting on a brave face but they asked him twice and he kind of said no I'm was coming back you know that was his
5:00
attitude now that might be just him putting on a face but I I think that's the case too but notice also we did not
5:07
hear from anybody else that Meo went to Shane and told him on Monday morning you're coming back but he did go to
5:14
Brian deall and told Brian Dall you're coming back that tells me the two of them were separate but and dable said
5:22
and I we don't know if this is true and they pressed them the reporters were pressed him on this and he didn't really answer they wanted to know as I do and I
5:30
think you do was D told before the game he was back or was he told after the
5:35
game he first came out and he said I heard this morning which was Monday so his first D's first public statement was
5:43
I heard Monday that I was coming back right later on they asked him well did you know between the Friday
5:52
meeting and Monday that you you thought there was a good chance did you you
5:59
like you would he was pressed by I believe it was Paul Schwarz because I just listened to it just a little while ago and the question was okay they
6:07
didn't tell you but when you left that meeting did you feel did you have an inclination that you were coming back
6:14
you know listen we we met we talked it was a good meeting we played the game and I was told this morning that's what he kep hiss actually W even weren't even
6:21
remotely related to the question we'll get to dble in a second but dble D D's interview was the least
6:30
helpful insightful there you got I got nothing out of it there's a couple things but I got nothing out of it but
6:36
he basically it was like he was it was like he was on a jury stand and he wasn't going to incriminate himself so
6:42
he didn't say a damn thing you got more from him no let me rephrase that you got
6:48
less from him in that scenario than you get from Bill bellich talking about the
6:54
next week's upcoming opponent yeah it was bad it was bad so so so before I
6:59
move on to finish up on on mea did you want to react to the first part of that or did you want me to well I think there
7:06
was stuff there now because we've heard from all three I thought it was interesting that mea said what he said
7:11
and then he delved further into the things that he felt needed that were going to change or that he wanted to
7:17
change he was very he was very open about not being happy with the defense that is something to file away for later
7:23
for for the for the day ball conversation right he mentioned day ball
7:28
not calling play that's also very interesting when it comes up with ball later there seems to
7:34
be a disconnect on Whose idea that was yeah you you picked that up too yeah
7:39
yeah so here's my thought on all of this I think John Merck basically came out Hasty put together a thing he had
7:45
already I think he had already decided I think Fridays was already decided the meeting on Friday was probably more to
7:52
lay out the you tell me what you're thinking D ball you tell me what you're thinking fora he and Shane probably are
7:58
have already talked about what needs to happen I agree and then here's what needs to happen in the game you will
8:05
play other players you won't try to lose you can't take a kneel down you can't
8:11
call running plays on Third and eight but you will play Eric gray you will mix in Josh audo you will take guys out at
8:18
different points in time will play a ton of snaps you know yeah you know that kind of thing you can you can again you
8:26
canot purposely try to lose but not to win all at the same time yeah it's
8:31
interesting I don't know if he got that if he micromanaged it to that level I would have I know that sounds terrible
8:38
because I've been telling I've been saying ownership should stay out of things but again you know how I feel
8:43
about the whole draft thing so I would have told him in that situation this is how you will handle it because you're
8:49
hurting us sure but but we don't know that you we're speculating at this point so there was a couple other things and I
8:54
want your take on this because again you've you've watched it you've read the transcripts what did you think about mea
9:01
talking about what he saw from the team throughout the year oh God including him
9:08
being at practice yeah yeah yeah no that all of a sudden that became my worst
9:15
nightmare and the part where I've defended before and now I might I'm beginning to question myself slightly of
9:21
like Mar is not involved that much maybe he is no and and I can kind I had I have
9:28
um mixed feelings on that so if you're an owner so Tish is more of the he's
9:34
half owner but he's got other things going on in his life meor doesn't have anything but the Giants so if he wants
9:40
to come watch practice and sit in the back I I had the vision he said he sat in on meetings at your players meetings
9:47
I had visions of like you know when when you were in school high school and the principal would come into the back of the office back of the classroom and
9:54
sort of sit there and listen to the teacher while he was evaluating it um it was a little cringe at first but I'm not
10:01
going to hit him too hard on that but what stood out to me more was when
10:07
he said so he defended and I apologize for looking at my notes but but I want I
10:12
want to get this right so before we get to that because this is the lead into
10:18
that the I told you I gave the quote about the meeting on Friday and he heard
10:24
the plans and they like moving forward and the other thing that stood out to me in the big picture before we get into
10:29
what you're talking about was um he emphasized that when you when when you start over you really set yourselves
10:36
back and this gets back to what I was talking about in earlier podcast that I think mea really doesn't want to start
10:43
over all all over again he wants the continuity and he I think he was more worried about that with Shane because he
10:50
went on and we'll talk about this he went on and talked about how he likes the process and when he talks about
10:56
process he's not talking the coaching he's talking about The Scouting Department both pro and college then the
11:03
people that he brought in so he doesn't want and as I thought he doesn't want to erase all that so he doesn't want to
11:10
blow up getting rid of Brandon uh um the assistant JM Brandon he doesn't want to get a rid of C Cen he doesn't want to
11:17
get of Dennis hickey and all these other people the those Scouts and things like that that they brought in because he
11:22
said the exact quote was this when you make these changes and God knows we've made them in the past and have been
11:28
impatient in the past I thought that was that was a key statement and been it so he I think he looks back right or wrong
11:35
and he thinks he's been impatient firing other po okay when you do that you feel
11:41
like you take one step forward two steps back and I just didn't want to fall into that cycle again I wanted to give people
11:46
a chance to build um this thing the right way and get us where we need to be I think when
11:52
you start over you really set yourself back and he said my instinct and my strong belief that that we're going in
11:59
the the right direction so he feels that they're going in the right direction so then he went on and talked about why he
12:07
kept Shane and why he kept dble and and now this gets to what you were talking
12:12
about and he said in Brian's case and he emphasizes he was coach of
12:18
the year two years ago that didn't disappear all of a sudden I'm at practice all the time I go to the team
12:24
meetings I watch the Players and I watch how they react I still think he's the right guy to lead us but then later on
12:31
he contradicts himself about the play calling and the defense the things that you talked about yeah so what stood out
12:37
to he didn't give a real long explanation on why he's keeping dble but he he led in it into it exactly what you
12:44
just said they I've been in the meetings I've been in at the practices me John
12:50
mea I know what football looks like I know what coaching is supposed to look like and I feel confident that and I'm
12:58
putting words in his mouth now I feel confident Brian is capable of leading this team moving forward that was his
13:04
explanation i' I know John maror me I've seen coaches in the past I I think I
13:09
know what it's supposed to look like and that's why I'm comfortable with this that's what I took away from that yeah
13:14
and I mean look there's you can go in a in a plethora of directions if you want
13:19
to really with whatever he said based on your frame of reference he said
13:25
something at different points of time if you're Pro John Mir if you're anti- J if you're kind of me if you're Pro Day ball
13:32
anti- dayall there's a piece in there every single time where you could latch on and go see he sucks see he's the guy
13:40
right I thought there were a couple I know the thing with Dominic Foxworthy was brought up Dominique Foxworthy on on
13:47
ESPN brought up this thing basically talking about how Mara needs to not be a fanboy can't be joking around about
13:52
saquan can't say this other stuff that's not what an owner and a CEO of a team does that's what you and I talked about
13:57
about you need to out there and it needs to be more of you're running a multi-billion dollar operation right but
14:06
we are focused on the game we're focused on the team in the game he runs a company that makes a [ __ ] ton of money
14:12
if the Giants go 0 and 17 next year I guarantee you they make just as much money as they did this year because
14:18
there's merchandise that's already been sold anybody who goes to the game from other teams you're going to be you're
14:23
buying concessions you're buying stuff there parking all that other crap he's
14:29
run concerts the big the big is he's got his portion of the TV contract that's oh absolutely well that too but you also
14:35
have you got Stadium revenue from other stuff I mean he's the Giants results on the field are not going to hurt his
14:41
bottom line per se right but his image took a hit now I'll say this everybody
14:48
on BBI bigblue interactive.com and any other Giants fans out there who are listening to us who I hope there's
14:53
plenty of you you got you got to stop bashing John maror on the one thing that he said that I think you're all grasping
15:00
on to for the wrong reasons he said we will never play to lose we will always try to win and if I find out anybody did
15:07
purposely lost I would fire them he can't say anything different he's on the
15:12
competition committee the NFL does not want anybody thinking teams take they know it's out there right and now the
15:19
Bengals have stirred the pot by the way when when came out today and he's accusing the chiefs of intentionally
15:26
losing that's this is going to be a problem for the NFL moving forward absolutely there was an interesting
15:32
tweet on Sunday that one of the pundits one of
15:37
the national reporters said why do I why does week 18 now feel like we're watching a third preseason game and
15:44
third preseason week and that's going to be a problem for the NFL moving forward because more and more teams are tanking
15:52
whether you want to use that word or not but sitting their start sitting their starters and not putting their full effort and that's going to start
15:58
inuencing things like the the gambling community and and so so it's a very
16:04
sensitive subject and that's a whole other conversation but yes you're 100% And we talked about in the last pet
16:10
podcast he can't come out and especially since he's the head of the competition committee he can't come out and say that
16:15
so yes and but if you look at the snap counts the snap counts came out after the game and we didn't see them before
16:22
we did our last podcast it's pretty clear that the Giants weren't going all out to win that game when you look at who was playing especially on Def
16:28
defense they weren't it wasn't they they didn't mind losing that game still
16:34
bothers the crap out of me that they won the Colts game so I could well that's that's a whole that's a whole another
16:40
that's a whole another question conversation well to talk about in a second but I want to say this because it also came up well why were the snap
16:47
counts why are they playing these guys on offense and what you can hide what you're doing on offense because you have
16:54
the ball far easier than you can on defense on defense if you start having guys like
17:00
Brian Burns and Kayon Tibido and if Dexter Lawrence were playing great but he's not but I'm trying to think of
17:06
anybody else is good we don't really have that many good players if you start telling them hey kind of take it easy
17:13
you know run to your side just kind of that's obvious then we're gonna look like we got you know 11 Deontay Banks
17:19
out there so you can't you can't just like do that you so what do you do well
17:24
we're gonna get other guys playing time Tom and fox is gonna play right Burns is out you know Kavon you're out Boogie
17:30
Basham you come on in there we're gonna rotate the guys we're gonna r a lot of different Corners playing guys that were
17:35
on that you were like who the hell is that so the only thing the one flying the only it goes back to the Colts and
17:41
it goes back to this game is and I think it gets back to your earlier comment was Malik neighbors and I would not have
17:47
played him against the Colts and I would not have played him as much as they did against the Eagles but I think this gets
17:54
back to your earlier comment that he's tougher to control and they're man managing that a little bit so in other
18:00
words and he was going for a record and and I think that's part of it and it comes it it comes up in another Con in
18:07
the uh Brian De ball uh press conference so when we get to there yeah we'll come back to this but there is a question
18:14
specifically asked by by I believe it was Jordan renan but if it's not forgive
18:20
me but it was basically stuff he heard from other players and presents it to D ball as a question D ball just basically
18:26
ignores it and moves on but it ties directly to what we're talking about right now and I think N I think neighbors they were doing everything
18:32
possible to appease that ego that's what I think now when you originally said that the other day I was like maybe I
18:39
don't know but now I I really think so because again he's the one guy that
18:44
could have wrecked the game again he wrecked the game on against the Colts he
18:50
he turned a loss into a win and he could have done it against the eagle I mean the only touchdown we scored was him
18:56
making an incredible play again so at that point I was like you know I was
19:01
feeling pretty good about the loss up to that point then he made that playing I'm like oh Jesus stop it get him up get him
19:07
out of the game for this weird record that doesn't mean anything because there's a guy later in the day who was
19:12
who was already at that number had just pushed right past it anyway and honestly do you care do you care that puka nakua
19:19
had a record a year I mean in today's NFL of throwing passes what I don't care neighbors had a [ __ ] ton of receptions
19:27
in a season we won three games records mean more to me when you're winning because I think it's cool so if the
19:33
Giants were winning and like it say like we have the thing of brandom Jacobs here or you can also say he's Rodney Hampton
19:39
here but when they were winning and they were getting records about breaking records and things like that I was like
19:44
yeah that's cool yeah Giants now I'm like I don't care we're three three and
19:50
14 and somebody broke a record I don't care do you know do you know who has the rookie record for field goals in a
19:55
season is it right what year was that that was 1983
20:01
1983 we won three games who cares who cares who cares and he was off the team
20:06
like two years later so who cares so Larry if you're watching listening out there I got that right I got that
20:13
question right all right so let's finish up on on on mea because um I want to get to the other ones but so he talked about
20:19
a brief defense of dble didn't really get into it um and in Joe's case Joe
20:24
Shane's case he said he he kept emphasizing he he had an outstanding draft now he didn't mention 2022 draft
20:32
he didn't mention the 2023 draft he kept coming back to 2024 and he thought he had an outstanding free agency period
20:38
now he threw Burns in there Burns was a trade but he T he talked about Burns and and runan and then those are the only
20:46
two names he mentioned and then he talked about again the staff that he put
20:52
together and I think the staff that he's assembled around him in the process this
20:58
magical process process that we go through now and the information that we have in making Personnel decisions is
21:04
better than I have ever seen it before but then he later goes on and says I'm
21:10
not sure I he said direct this as a quot I'm not sure I am all that confident
21:15
that it's that much better he said that the roster so he basically later on said
21:20
I'm not sure the roster's gotten any better since when they got here but I'm I'm I think the process is good so I Rel
21:27
listening to this watching watching this again I think right or wrong now we we
21:33
may be doing a show a year from now and this actually might have been the right thing to do I don't think I don't think
21:40
we're going to be having a winning record a year from now but if they do you're going to have we have to look
21:45
back and say John Mera was Brave in the sense that he did something that a lot
21:50
of people didn't want him to do and bring back both these guys and it worked out for them but if it doesn't work out
21:57
again he's going to take a lot of heat for so in in one way I want to give him some credit here he did the unpopular
22:02
decision but you could also argue on the other hand he did the kind of a more lazy decision and and that he didn't you
22:09
know we all know this and Everyone Falls victim of this sometimes sometimes your your decisions are so tough that instead
22:17
of doing what you need to do you sometimes do nothing so you're like I've got so sometimes people panic or are
22:25
blind or so confused that they won't do anything they'll just just do nothing so you can almost wonder is he doing the
22:32
right thing here because he he is right or is he doing this because he just
22:37
doesn't want to make a change again so I I don't know I think it's it's a valid it's a valid
22:43
question I still I try to take the the emotion side of it out which is not easy
22:49
for me I mean I I I get I get very I get very like you can all go once you've
22:55
made the and this is where I think it's at so there's a couple things in we get to shame we could talk about this a little bit further that whole idea with
23:01
the process which by the way it's also like unicorns and you know I I don't know stop using that word I don't even
23:07
know what it means like where but I process but I do think I know where it
23:12
starts because there was a question posed to Shane that talked about if you could go back to 22 and 23 with the
23:21
staff you have now in the process in place could you see things differently and he does he answers it but doesn't
23:26
really answer it but he's he talks about the fact that you know we now feel really good with and then he labels each
23:32
one of the guys Dennis hickey talks about Brown um I'm trying to remember the other guy's name but so he goes
23:38
through all those brown thank yeah so he's talking about their experiences where they were all this
23:43
stuff that they have now and what they all are working together on and he and to be fair to him he that he was that's
23:49
that's correct in other words if you feel like you brought in these people that you think have value you don't and
23:56
you're you're still building that up he talked about how he didn't wasn't able to do that in year one and we can get
24:01
into that why you can't do that but he and he legitimately they couldn't do that in year one but he did it two year two and three so that that isn't that
24:09
now that isn't actually an intelligent response we we've built this thing and we don't want to blow it up sorry to
24:15
interrupt you so you're fine it's not a bad answer so I think I think from where
24:20
we can kind of land with mea there's again we talked about this it's it was literally like it was like somebody with
24:27
split personality gave one answer and then literally gave so I think his his
24:33
his mind matching fans started answer back well you know I don't know about the talent needs to be better even but
24:39
you just said so I understand that maybe when you do things unscripted and by the
24:44
way we do all this unscripted but when you do things unscripted and that's not your wheelhouse then you you run the risk of
24:53
saying stuff that you probably wouldn't normally just let out in this kind of a setting because you're just not prepared
24:59
for how you were going to say it he I think he let us know some of the real truths here's the real thing in my in my vision and you tell me if you think I'm
25:05
wrong I think they I think he knew Shane was coming back I think that was already discussed I think the fact that the
25:12
Colts game happened and we didn't hear anything about day ball at that point that may have turned the tide slightly
25:17
back in his favor that the players were still really trying for him yeah because because again Mara doesn't want to lose
25:24
and it was the only home game we won so he's kind of like win a home game but then they had the meeting before the
25:30
game what would be the purpose of meeting before the game unless at least
25:35
one of the two people were already coming back because there's no reason to meet with both of them if you're still
25:41
trying to decide because there's nothing about the game that's going to change Joe Shane's position yeah I think Joe
25:47
Shane I think he already made the decision Joe Shane was coming back now there was to answer your question there
25:53
was an interesting comment by giant grit from the website who was is one of the
25:58
ass hats there were several that had heard earlier doesn't mean they're right
26:04
doesn't mean their sources are right but had heard earlier that Shane was coming back and dble was leaving and so I think
26:10
he was reacting to some of that other people saying well you were wrong you didn't get this right and so he's got
26:16
self-interest in giving this explanation but there may be some truth to it too because the reporters kind of were
26:21
starting to say that too like the danand dugans of the world were kind of saying you know the vibe Vibe had switched
26:26
giant grit said this and he's I think he's speculating here but this is this kind of makes you wonder and worry a
26:33
little bit he said maybe that the the vi the vibe they were getting around the
26:38
league was that top coaching prospects didn't want to come here to work with
26:45
Shane in other words they didn't they didn't want they didn't want to be tied to Shane they want they would come be
26:51
more interested in the Giants if they were starting all over again with a GM that they were more comfortable working
26:57
with no I'm not saying that happened I'm not that is a possibility too that da one of the reasons Dave was coming back
27:04
is in the back of um ownership's mind they may have said we can't we're not
27:10
confident we can get somebody better than DAV which is not a good not a good look no but that's that's also just to
27:16
be clear though that's not necessarily a 100% dig at Shane what it is saying is
27:23
you've got a lame duck GM then I'm coming in and he's already on thin ice am I supposed to do in one year and if
27:30
you if it goes bad am I staying and the GM goes but then you get a new GM who wants his own coach could be it could be
27:37
it could be that he doesn't like Shane but it could also be exactly what if and it isn't the other situation which you
27:43
just described exists no matter what right there's it's a no scenario for that guy coming in so
27:50
so now this could still all work out for the Giants I don't think it's going to but this could still all work out for
27:56
the Giants because remember Bill Parcels was on thin ice um and they he barely came back
28:04
and then you know that got all completely to turn around Tom Coughlin was on thin ice after after 2006 and
28:11
that turned all around so there there is an opportunity he's getting it when you get another swing at the ball you can
28:16
hit a home run do I think it's going to happen based on the schedule that's coming up I know know you don't like looking at the schedule but I do but I
28:23
do I I don't think it's going to happen but this could still work out but I I'm starting to think there might be
28:28
something to what giant grit said cuz it it makes sense and it falls in line with what you're talking about is why would
28:35
somebody want to be tied to a lame duck situation too so right just putting that
28:41
just putting that out there so that's also another possibility but I do agree with what you just said I think Shane
28:46
knew he was safe if he wasn't safe why would he have been in the meeting anyways on Friday when it was focused on
28:52
dble it wasn't a Shane Deo meeting it was a dble meeting that Shane also was in the meeting so um and that's well at
29:01
least that's how it was couched and and think about it like why would you have that meeting on Friday before a Sunday
29:06
game at the last week of the Season you can have it on Black Friday or Black Monday if you want to to clean house
29:13
this was clearly designed to be like here's a couple things first off sell me on why you should come back and then how
29:19
is the game going to be handled wink wink nudge nudge how you handling the game this Sunday right and it flew and
29:27
it was contrary to what the national reporters had been reporting that there was going that meeting was going to happen after the game so we had a number
29:34
of national reporters saying what happened on Friday was going to happen after the game it actually happened
29:39
before the game which is significant right oh absolutely so I want to sort this out here too so I've been tweeting
29:46
more using X more for thoughts and I and I I when this came out I I tweeted out a
29:53
couple things my negative initial emotional things and somebody responded going
29:58
are we going to dwell on all this all all winter why are why are we talking about this cuz this is really important
30:04
first of all it just came out it's just happened number one but number two this is the this is going to determine the
30:10
direction of the franchise for the foreseeable future we have to talk about
30:15
this what did you want to talk about The Season's been over for I don't know for us for three days it's which some fans
30:21
don't want the they don't they want to cover their head and they don't want to even you know they I know I get it you
30:27
love the Giants and you don't like the bad mouthing of them but you but you've got to you got to if we're we're
30:32
analyzing the situation and we got to talk about it so so with with that in mind do you do we have anything else
30:40
specific about mea no oh one last thing because it ties specifically anything but that was my takeaway from the mara
30:47
thing again it was the big thing was the timeline and then he doesn't want to
30:53
blow up the process and the process I mean is that the the personnel structure
30:58
to acquire talent and I'm getting the sense again I agree with you that Shane was coming back no matter what um and
31:06
I'm you know I wonder if what the motivation to bring back dble now was maybe it's they just felt they couldn't
31:12
do anything else right now but anyway the last thing is this is um the quarterback he did say that and this is
31:20
the quote that obviously the number one issue for us going into the off season is to find our quarterback of the future
31:28
whether that be via the draft or acquiring a veteran it's going to be up
31:34
to them to decide ultimately so he's setting up the owner of the Giants who
31:41
has his hands in this and he's not saying anything that we all don't know but he's saying we got to get a
31:46
quarterback and it doesn't have to be necessarily doesn't have to be a draft pick it can be a veteran and what Shane
31:53
talks about later on yes and and when we get to him we can definitely delve into that uh I think that is the that is the
32:01
missing piece to what we've wondered all along somewhere along the way through
32:08
hard knocks we saw it very clearly Shane and de ball were not on board with
32:13
Daniel Jones coming back again and putting their eggs in that basket and thinking we're gonna win but and Shane
32:19
confirmed that and we'll get to that but Shane confirm that in his thing yes and in way he said it was very interesting
32:25
too there yes it was it seems to me the clear divide here
32:31
became if you say process right and that's what they keep throwing out there if you say believe in the process now I
32:37
see what happened in the draft a little bit go turps you're not going to like this the first three quarterbacks were
32:45
clearly ranked up top they were up top with anybody Williams Daniels may they
32:51
were up top with any other Prospect in the draft they were right up there pennx
32:56
McCarthy Nicks were down below mixed in with other players once they agreed that
33:04
if you can't get one of those three guys and that's kind of where I think this was I think mea said fine if you can get
33:11
them I don't want to give away the farm but that locked you into those three guys and you knew they weren't gonna
33:17
none of those teams above were going to drop so that basically now that leaves them to the process now you got to take
33:22
the best player which I think is stupid you should have traded if that was the case you should have traded down and a
33:27
required more picks and got other players and a potential quarterback but that's you know hindsight but that to me
33:33
says that told us everything and then they said run with Jones you made it before give them more
33:40
players and see what you can do and they ran it as far as they were going to be able to go yeah the qu the open question
33:47
is there's two things one is and we'll get into this with you were your instincts were correct about the veteran
33:52
we'll get into that so the veteran thing but what you said what we don't know is this is how much say did mea have in the
34:00
quarterback discussion in the 202 um 4 draft so did he have that did
34:07
he say that or did he not we'll never know we'll never know but regardless we know the outcome the outcome was and we
34:13
saw clip of it when they discussed the board those three quarterbacks weren't in their top 12 whatever it was it's
34:20
they would have taken again the funny thing is is the non-quarterback players they seem to be able to evaluate cuz the
34:26
guys that they were talking about um first round and even in the second
34:32
round ended up being really good players so they so they can evaluate these guys it seems like they just didn't get their
34:38
hands on them now everyone is throwing out Nicks still as they should because when you watch Nicks now you're like
34:43
damn it but nobody really really was talking about Nicks in the giant fan he
34:49
was mentioned as the sixth guy and some people some people thought he might be
34:54
better but most people weren't weren't saying Nicks is Nick so that's there's a little revisionism going on with Nicks
35:01
right now that's the problem with evaluating quarterbacks some of these guys just end up being and we'll have to
35:07
see what Nick is five years from now but some of these guys are way better Pros than you thought they were going to be
35:13
or or the Opposites true and and the NFL has as much trouble evaluating that stuff now but right now in hindsight
35:20
taking Nicks at six would have been a good move it looks like we say we say that and we think that right right but
35:27
but but but well sometimes it's the system and the matchup and the coach Nicks was as
35:34
close to Drew Brees like physically kind of the way he plays and way he processes
35:40
and pton everybody kind of matched if Nicks goes early it's probably going to be to Payton and the Broncos oh everyone
35:47
had him tied to them that was one of the that was one of the worst kept secrets in in the draft everyone tied Denver
35:53
with Nicks and I didn't hear anybody else really being attached to him in the first round no no but I have to tell you
36:02
I I'd rather have him than what we right I agree
36:08
so move on let's move on we're done with mea but the mara stuff's important yes um and I don't have much to say on dble
36:14
because dble didn't say d just jacked [ __ ] so you start off but I yeah let's
36:19
let's because we're gonna go chronologically dble was next yeah um I thought it was very interesting couple
36:25
things they asked they asked a bunch of questions and and he is he is [ __ ] annoying I know
36:34
it's not that you don't answer because every coach doesn't answer it's that you
36:39
you argumentatively don't answer oh the season just ended we haven't even had
36:45
[ __ ] you just met with the owner on Friday you had to lay out a plan it was
36:50
mentioned of course your ego says I present it to him that I might not call place later they bring it back up to day
36:56
ball well John said he's well I don't know if he said it first but I offered it I kind of feel like he it was laid
37:03
out there like I don't see you calling Place uh yeah I don't have to call play if you want to call that that you
37:08
offered it sure you did whatever you had to to to prove that you should come back um most of his answers he totally dodged
37:17
the the Daniel Jones one it's not good enough we only won three games going to work harder it was all starts with me I
37:24
got after every single question he made the same goddamn answer look most
37:30
coaches almost all of them hate meeting with the media hate meeting with them Tom Coughlin hated meeting with the
37:37
media but he did it and he was actually as as as as brusk and and sometimes
37:44
pissy as he was with the media he he provided answers D's answers again this
37:49
isn't a huge thing with me because it's p if you win I don't care the problem is he's losing he's losing so um but but
37:57
it's just it just doesn't look like he gives a [ __ ] so his answers AR even look he's trying he doesn't even look like
38:03
he's trying to answer the questions this is a this is after the season this isn't
38:08
like hey you just lost this game what happened there uh what do you think of him he dropped the ball kind this is
38:15
after the season where part of what you just said is I was informed today by John Mar that I'm coming back no no no
38:21
let me rephrase that I was informed that joha were allowed to come back have you noticed one of his tricks and he's done
38:29
this for year for a few years now is to tell people this is not a good time to talk
38:35
about it I'll talk about it in the future and then when the reporter brings it up in the future he says again it's
38:40
not a good time to talk about it so he just did it so one of the reporters called him out on it at the end he said
38:46
you told me the last time we met that this would not be a good time to talk about it because the season was well now that the season's over can you answer
38:53
the question now and he was basically well the season just ended and I don't want to so when are you going to answer the
38:59
goddamn question he's not going to answer the not g to answer the question the um I'm trying to remember there was
39:04
one specific question that really got my oh the exit interviews you're doing exit
39:10
interviews this year you didn't do them last year you know because we're just we we felt we should so did you think you
39:15
made a mistake last year no we we just didn't do them last year but we think we're gonna do we're trying everything different you we're just gonna do
39:20
everything different did you see Ryan dun Le's theory on that no I did not I
39:26
did not what he say he thought that had deal with do with Wink in other words I agree for last year said he didn't
39:33
probably he didn't want to meet with the defensive players because there were still raw emotion there and I think
39:38
that's a good theory so I don't again we're speculating but so he they asked him very
39:44
specifically the defense did not play well this year you just you changed the defensive coordinate Chang special teams coach you know uh it would be hard to do
39:52
it again he's like oh you know listen we we only won three games nothing was good enough we're going to reevaluate have
39:57
total confidence in those guys next question the owner came out and said he's not happy with the he's like you know listen
40:05
IAM yeah nobody's happy uh you know we're gonna talk about things I'm like what the f come on what I said what I
40:12
talked about with John is private I'm not gonna talk about wa so wait so you I guarantee you when JN sat there and said
40:18
this defense sucks we are a team of defense and we were so bad you got to do
40:24
something okay I'll change coordinators what you know that's coming you know Bowen is out and here's how you know I
40:31
hope I hope he would throw him under the bus which he wouldn't but here's how you
40:36
know who started their their their podcast earlier today talking about him in a very negative Bank criti them yeah
40:44
I saw that I didn't listen to it I just saw the headline and I thought giant Central here's here's your
40:52
script but again again I don't want to get people on x are going to get mad at
40:57
me why am I being so negative ER who's going to want to come here that's any good an a lame duck situation I still
41:04
think it's larule I think if you're on if you're the GI if you're coming up with the list of who's on the hot seat
41:10
going to 2025 ran D's got to be at the top of the list oh sure yeah sure top of the list so I know l l you want l i mean
41:18
well I mean I I don't have a big pension for Antonio Pierce bring back Anton I do not want Antonio Pierce I think Antonio
41:25
Pierce is extremely he's extremely over for what he's done I think I know but it's the it's the connection oh it it is
41:31
but I mean it listen they've got a win I don't give a [ __ ] what they said about they're not going to win next year there
41:38
is a pathway there's a pathway to get there and you'll know that they're trying if they do it and that pathway is
41:44
we're we're going veteran quarterback and it might be an older veteran quarterback oh we'll get there I think they're going to go veteran now I do
41:51
think they're going to go better and so and that gets into kind of what Sai was talking about maybe we want to have Sai come on and explain his d detailed
41:57
offseason plan CU he had some good stuff in there but some controversial stuff that so so was there was there anything
42:02
else for dball for you no no the only thing I got out of that was
42:08
um he that he claims he only found out on that morning which I'm not sure I
42:16
believe but that's what he claims and then the only other thing I got out of that is um I thought that this was a
42:22
good answer by him the only good answer he gave when somebody asked him if he was on the hot seat he said the NFL
42:27
usually is a one-year deal anyway and he's right about that that was the only good answer he gave in terms of you know
42:33
every everybody's got a one-year you know one-year deal um the NFL not for long and the other thing the the last
42:40
thing was the thing that I that um I already brought up he said they kept pressing him I think twice they pressed
42:47
him on when were you told you were going to come back or when did you feel you were going to come back before Friday
42:54
and and Monday was there anything because the way you handled the game seemed to suggest you knew you were coming back
43:01
and they wanted him to answer that and he wouldn't answer that well they they asked him blatantly did you try to win the game on Sunday and he didn't give an
43:08
answer he so he said yes we tried to win he goes we went for it on fourth down we did this I'm like that fourth down he
43:15
said he mentioned your pun your fake pun yeah you you telegraphed that so much that I thought for sure you were you
43:21
were intentionally calling a fake punt to the run to get tackled for a loss um
43:27
yeah he said that and but then they asked him about your usage of players he said some of the players have kind of
43:33
said to us it kind of felt like a preseason game with the way he's like well we were looking ahead to the future if you're looking ahead to the Future
43:39
trying to get guys playing time trying to see how them on the field doesn't that mean you know you're coming back
43:45
why would you do that if you weren't now question for you what did you think of his demeanor
43:53
don't not his not his question no no no it's the way he looked the way he act
43:58
um he knows he's happy sad I think he knows he's he's effed if they don't win
44:04
and I don't know that he's confident in himself that he can get him there that's how I feel he was he was he was
44:09
off-putting in a way to the questions he was he was
44:15
almost he was borderline obstinate on a on a number of things in a in a portion
44:20
of where you should be kind of like hey man I'm really grateful to be coming back I know it has been way yeah all
44:27
right you got the same Vibe I yeah he didn't seem grateful to be coming does I
44:33
sometimes wonder does he really even want to be here anymore I don't you hear did you hear the question that was asked of him how is it um do are you is it an
44:41
honor and a privilege to be a giant the giant coach is that art Stapleton there
44:46
were two questions that sounded like it was Art and they were like here you go I'm like they're such [ __ ]
44:53
questions I'm like come on ask a real question I don't know I I don't know but I was curious to see what your
44:59
impression was on I thought Mara was kind of almost embarrassed you know his demeanor was
45:06
sort of he was very low key and you know he he got a little irritated at times but he was kind of like you know he I
45:14
had to turn my volume way up to hear him and I thought like you said I I I didn't
45:19
think T had the right um demeanor either but I was curious to what you said yeah
45:25
no no I think you're right I mean I I felt the same way watching him if you
45:31
just read the transcript you're just getting the questions and the answer but when you watch it you watch the way he is he's annoyed which is fine I can I
45:39
can understand that but you you went nine six3 in wins and you get to come
45:45
back in a job you should be you'll be thinking you're lucky star you're coming back here dude you should be thrilled
45:51
and knowing there he did mention the quarterback thing although he he he stayed away from
45:57
Jones but that it's important that they find one yeah whether it's a draft pick whether it's a veteran you know
46:04
obviously we got to you know but we all got to be better and then he just walked away from it yep right so that's that's
46:10
with d we're done with d now let's move to Shane so what what did you want to start off with with with him so I got a
46:16
few comments but what did you want to start I I wantan to actually I want to start with you because I want to see what you think first I've always been a
46:22
little bit more in the Shane group than I was the day ball group yeah
46:27
so what do you got oh I'm sorry was waai for your question oh okay so I'm
46:34
rewatching it again I'm G to make some people mad because people were on when I
46:39
I announced that we were going to be doing this tonight and people were like give them hell give them hell oh I know I saw that I when I went back and looked
46:46
through all of these again they're not good but they're not
46:52
as bad as I initially thought because part of me is I'm still pissed okay so I'm not defending these conferences but
46:59
they're not as bad as I thought so the first thing he came out and said was he
47:04
blamed he did blame himself absolutely there's a part in here that we'll get to
47:10
but so he he said first and foremost he he said myself we're not
47:15
good enough I've got to do a better job of assembling the a roster with more Talent right that's on me it's on me
47:23
however later on when he was asked if he would had could go back redo Dan the
47:28
Daniel Jones situation he wouldn't admit to it so so so whether he really
47:34
believes he's at fault or not I don't know it's one thing to say in general yeah I'm I'm the blame but when you
47:39
press somebody on but you really screwed up on that didn't you oh no I didn't screw up on that if I had to do it all
47:45
over again I'd do the same thing given the information we had at the time my my reaction is you know what I really
47:53
screwed that up and I and and and some somebody pushed back on Twitter on me about say he can't throw Daniel Jones
47:59
under the bus I don't care about Daniel Jones being thrown under the bus at this point he's a viking I don't care they he
48:05
had no Pro he he blatantly talked about how they need a quarterback and the
48:10
quarterback play wasn't good enough they he threw down a Jones under the bus constantly what he didn't throw under the bus was the influence of why that
48:17
contract happened the way that it happened is what I think well that's a whole you and I talked about that over and over again but yeah so so first of
48:23
all he did he did that and then again he they were he was asked about quarterback
48:29
is the most important position in football we'll look at free agency and this is really key we can
48:35
also look throughout the draft and potential trade opportunities
48:43
so I think and you and I have talked about this it would not Shock me if the next quarterback of the New York Giants
48:49
is is been is a trade so oh I Absol I absolutely think it is unless they go
48:54
the Justin Fields type route and um that's not a good that's that
49:01
just that's just a winging a prayer at that point I again wonder if they will P
49:06
pursue somebody like Matthew Stafford or somebody somebody like that um and then this ties into that about I this is
49:14
where I want to spend much of what we're talking about because I'm glad they asked us by the way reporters you did actually ask some really good question I
49:20
will give both all three some of the guys did ask good questions um the he
49:26
was was pressed on um are you going to do a Hail Mary and
49:32
the thing that we talked about are you yes Des are you because you're on the hot seat are you going to do something desperate here that's going to screw the
49:39
no he's not going to admit yeah I'm my jobs online I'm gonna I'm gonna do it
49:45
he's never going to admit that but he he know he's on notice if that means anything he's on notice the organization
49:51
has to know that everyone's thinking about this right now so that came out
49:58
and he said um he said um he kept talking about they
50:04
are in a decent situation because they have the high draft pick but they have cap room I don't think 40 million that's
50:10
even less than you and I were talking we're talking about 60 million 40 million is not a lot and then um he said
50:17
I would never do that I'm not going to do a Hail Mary for self-preservation we have a plan in place that we believe in
50:24
and we're going to stick with that so they have a idea of what they're going
50:29
to do and they're going to stick with it now that part I do believe I think they have an concept already and I and we'll
50:35
get into it but I think he admitted he admitted in this the most important thing that came out of this to me and
50:41
I'll will read the quote later is he admitted that they knew the Daniel Jones thing could go sideways he didn't say it
50:48
specifically he danced around it but there were two answers where he basically said we had a parallel process
50:56
we had an in mind that you know we wanted to you and I talked about this they were going to try to surround J Jones with weapons and see how and
51:03
that's what they said in hard knocks and he said it here too see how that worked out and if it didn't work out we have
51:09
another plan and that's what he admitted to so that so he confirmed what you and I were kind of talking about all the
51:15
last few months to me that was the most important thing that came out absolutely and the way he said it I believe and you
51:23
might have the transcript but he something to the effect of we were going to try to go as far as we
51:29
could go with d and it didn't work out so that was again the by week I think
51:35
was the break yeah but I think the edict all along was you we're g get other
51:40
players get him back to 22 see if you can win that way because we we can't we
51:46
can't go and get some of these other quarterbacks that's breaking your process I think that's what happened right again speculation for sure does
51:53
that make it okay no sometimes you have to reach but if if stick to their process I get it he mentioned something
51:59
else that's very important very key in their study of the draft they were
52:04
studying quarterbacks not just in the draft last year but also following years
52:10
they were looking at because we already have done extensive work but that also is backwards too and
52:18
this is where I kind of think that we might want to really keep an eye on this because of the relationship that's out
52:23
there and the fact that where we are could still leave open a spot where a quarterback is available at our pick if
52:31
only one of the two main quarterbacks go in the top three and let's say Ward is the guy that goes right I'm not buying
52:39
that the Giants are sold on Sanders in fact there was something that he said May me think they're
52:45
not if you can flop with Carolina who needs a splash and we take
52:52
Bryce young off their hands they get our pick here I could see that happen I could EAS feeling that Bryce young is
52:59
gonna and I've said this for a while I have a feeling Bryce Young's on our radar I think so too and it was just the
53:05
way they emphasized trade multiple times Shane said it mea said it and this
53:13
gets and evaluating quarterback again I'm not advocating that before somebody goes out there Bryce young we're not
53:20
advocating for it but all the reality of this situation is the Giants are in quarterback hell they've got to get a
53:26
quarterback in this draft or and the problem with that is the GM and the head
53:32
coach got a win especially the head coach the GM maybe he gets gets more years but dav's dog meat unless he gets
53:39
a veteran or a guy that is a rookie is like Jaden Daniels like and I don't think most rookies don't do that so so
53:46
that's why John and and to a lesser extent me have been saying they may have to go to a veteran for the
53:52
self-preservation mode doesn't mean they don't draft a quarterback too but they've got to have exactly exactly all
53:57
right so so a Kurt Warner for your Eli Manning type thing you know that that that type sure or car or Carri cins back
54:04
in the day when we kind of got a got him on a flyer when we already had Brown and Graham they picked up I think they've
54:11
got to bring in I think they got to bring it and so so the question is where do you get the quarterback and it's not
54:18
none of the answers are pretty right now so again you there this NFL this the NFL's got about five quarterbacks right
54:24
now that are playing way above every body else and because they're playing way about anybody else those teams have
54:30
a legitimate shot at the Super Bowl then you got the Eagles who have a people
54:36
have different opinions on jayen Herz but the rest of the roster is really good so so but that's where we're at right now is you know they they don't
54:43
even have a quarterback that even can keep him around five 500 football right now if dble goes 500 next year he's
54:49
coming back and that's what he's thinking right now I've got to find something I got I need a quarterback so I can survive another year
54:56
um so yes so that's what I the big thing I got out of that was what you just said
55:02
so Shane I felt like a couple things that he talked about the the process piece what they have to get better on
55:08
talked about the quarterback emphasized the fact that it could be trade could in fact trade really stood out to me the
55:13
way that was said multiple times yes free agency be it's a little harder unless guys get cut right Rogers cousins
55:22
whatever the other than that they're not technically free agents so the free agent pool is is piss poor at best so I
55:30
you got a feeling that's where they're going to go you know they got to go veteran because they have to win I'm not
55:35
saying they have to win 10 games or 11 games but they do need to be winning and
55:41
competitive and it's got to look like you've got enough in place that you can get a quarterback next year which is why
55:48
I feel like a trade and somebody and I don't want to focus on that because it's about the conferences but that that stood out to me the relationship that
55:54
that Shane has with Morgan in in uh Carolina I just think keep an
56:00
eye on that one even though I I do think a vet free agent who's not currently a
56:06
free agent but he will be I think is is somebody we're gonna have to watch and
56:12
and everybody's gonna hate it I'm sorry but I do I think keep an eye on Aaron Rogers and what happens there he's gonna
56:18
choose somewhere I saw somebody else mention that too so you think Aaron Rogers I think because a couple of
56:23
things one he hinted something about New York earlier in the year but that could be nothing the other thing is he threw
56:30
28 touchdown passes this year to 11 interceptions on a team that was pretty shitty and a year he didn't look that great yeah what could he do in a day
56:37
ball offense that just wants a guy to pick the right guy when you go to throw the ball so I asked a question and I'll
56:44
just ask you this I know I'm kind of delving off topic real quick yeah knowing what we saw of Rogers this year
56:49
with the Jets if you had put him in place from day one so he was quarterback starting against the Vikings instead of
56:55
Daniel Jones do we win seven maybe eight games even with the roster that we had
57:02
with him a quarterback we would definitely have a decent shot at it again the problem is is is
57:08
it's the roster at the end of the year was nowhere near what the roster was at the beginning of the year people forget
57:13
that the offense and Shane talked about it too the offensive line in the first six or seven games before Thomas got hurt was was actually pretty decent you
57:21
know one of probably you could make the argument one of the better ones in from a pass protection standpoint especially
57:27
one of the better ones in the NFL and he's got the receivers and and and and so yeah I would think there were games
57:33
where again we just weren't scoring points the problem we have too is the defense wasn't good so hard to win games
57:40
when your defense is sure but but but again using what we know what already
57:45
happened I will say this the offensive certainly wouldn't have been wouldn't have been um bottom ranked I don't think
57:53
we would have been a bottom I we I we could have beaten Dallas we were in that game even with Jones we could have be in
57:58
the with with we were averaging 14 15 points a game so I don't think we do that with Rogers and with a guy who can
58:05
be quick that's the other thing so Rogers Matthew Stafford somebody who can be quick to throw the ball right they're
58:12
they snap the throw off they don't Jones we always said it was very long and mechanical in the way he throws he opens
58:18
himself up to taking big hits because he can't get rid of it fast it's a there's a big process that happens when he
58:24
throws guy like Rogers a guy like Stafford they can just throw off Target they can look
58:30
one way throw it another they're very quick they change the angles of their arms they make the offensive line
58:36
actually better than it is the Rams had more injuries on the offensive line early on than we did they were playing
58:42
they were playing third string guys in the game against the Vikings they still won yeah so and that's the that's the
58:48
game that cost us Stafford probably too yeah I don't know it just seems to me there's a lot of baggage right now with
58:54
Rogers I I don't know I I agree I agree I agree but our options are limited no I
59:00
know I agree that's what I'm saying people that's the problem is people when you throw names out when you throw
59:05
specifics people always like gener generalities but when you throw specifics they're like no no no and and
59:13
that's the problem you know I've done this with people before and they'll they'll complain about something and I'll say all right then give me your
59:18
answer and they can't and that's the that's the issue at quarterback right none of the answers right now are really
59:24
good the best answer is this is somehow the best that this draft has a
59:30
quarterback who's going to be a stud and somehow The Giants acquire him that's the best answer the problem is is that
59:37
quarterback exist in the draft and can we even have a shot at him at number three and I don't feel like trading away
59:44
future picks for somebody you're not completely 100% sure on so I've told you
59:50
before my big fear is they'll trade away next year's pick for Sanders to move up and draft Sanders and then that pick
59:56
ends up being like our the you know the team that gets that say Cleveland say Cleveland swaps with us and gets our
1:00:02
number one and next year Cleveland's using our pick to take Archie
1:00:07
man you got be kidding me so the the the Giants in a whole bunch of other teams
1:00:13
and then I want to get back to stuff Shane said especially since you brought up the salary um the Giants and all the
1:00:20
other teams right now currently looking for quarterbacks have one very big
1:00:25
change in the landscape of of scouting and and and the draft and that is the
1:00:31
whole nil thing which is now getting guys to rethink oh maybe I'll stay in school I'm getting paid and you don't
1:00:38
even know right now we can project oh there's going to be a better quarterback class we don't know you don't know you
1:00:43
don't know and you don't know who's going to tear an ACL you don't know who's going to have a bad seasona I mean
1:00:48
look at back I mean back was supposed to be yeah I mean that's that's why I you
1:00:54
just can't and again and I've said all along you can you can tank a couple of games you can't tank 17 games either
1:01:01
that's impossible you can't do that so and and yeah so one thing you you mentioned and I want to go back because
1:01:07
this is the only thing that I actually was pretty I want
1:01:13
say anti but I certainly felt like it was it was overinflated it might be a
1:01:18
little hyperbole here you start saying well we've got this much cap space first off we are 16th in cap space for 2025
1:01:27
and we have no quarterback so you're not doing a great job no I actually I thought the number was better than he
1:01:32
kept throwing out 40 million that's not good with no according according to over the cap our cap space is 53 million but
1:01:40
the effective cap space is 38 so I'm assuming use 53 as the number but that
1:01:46
still that still puts a 16th with no quarterback and again we have a lot of
1:01:51
guys that are going to be up for free agency so again you have to fill out the roster that's not a great number now he
1:01:57
did emphasize 206 million 100 million for the following year so if we did
1:02:03
acquire a expensive quarterback it would be more of a Sal in the following year
1:02:10
so um which is which is fine see this is the other part that I didn't like that's fine to say it and you can sound like
1:02:16
you're doing a spectacularly great job but the Raiders the Chargers the Bengals the Seahawks the Panthers the commanders
1:02:21
the Steelers all have more cap space than us in 2026 yeah well the Chargers
1:02:27
have their quarterback the Bengals have their quarterback the commanders have their quarterback so there's a bunch of teams there with a [ __ ] ton of cap space
1:02:33
and their quarterback we don't have a quarterback we also have a very expensive left tackle that now has an
1:02:39
injury history so you and we've got a right tackle that we're probably not picking
1:02:45
up as fifth year option so either he moves to guard and then we resign him next year to a different kind of deal or
1:02:50
work back in the market for more offensive lineman which I think we are anyway so there it's a little dis genous
1:02:56
it's how the hell do we have why are we always up against the
1:03:01
cap IED to ask you I I don't I mean what is it that we do I don't know other
1:03:08
teams seem to be better at the Raiders I can get if you look at the Raiders
1:03:14
roster the bulk of their players are getting minimal salaries overall but also they don't have a quarterback
1:03:20
either but the Chargers they have a lot of they got rid of a bunch but they still have her is really expensive Bose
1:03:27
is really expensive Mack currently is on that team he's fairly expensive um the
1:03:32
Steelers no because they're they're technically son's quarterback after this year so they've got they've got lots of
1:03:37
space but the commanders have done an unbelievable Jing up the commanders look what the commanders are going to have
1:03:43
the next few years and they're they got a quarterback on a rookie deal and they they basically put together a a rent a
1:03:50
car team around him that they're going to they're not tied to at all and they're playing the playoffs
1:03:56
so um and they switched owners they got switched owners they
1:04:01
switched management and look what happened so H but but but we feel really
1:04:06
good about beating the Packers last or last year not 2023 that Packers win was
1:04:12
so good and the commander win boy that was worth it those me the Colts Colts
1:04:18
thing matters God damn it anyway I wouldn't I would not be surprised based on the way he talked about the space and
1:04:24
I think you're right I I I got a feeling we're going we're going veteran again I already said that we're going veteran
1:04:30
quarterback because you can you can move some of that money into the following years where we have more space um and
1:04:37
you can free up more space as we go there's guys that are may be here may not be here Tibido is a big one we could
1:04:42
talk about that another time with size thing what do you do with Tibido what do you do with Neil that's going to dictate
1:04:48
cap space in in the future years um but if you go veteran and maybe two veterans
1:04:53
and then a rookie to be the your developmental guy you could draft him third fourth round uh then I think we
1:05:00
might be trading back in this draft not just to get players but to lessen the
1:05:05
the the value of that player MoneyWise which it's all slotted but still and picking up a few extra picks probably in
1:05:11
the following year so if we're trying to win now it's going to be free agency
1:05:17
that we go after big a t Higgins somebody else to put opposite maybe neighbors right or somebody at corner as
1:05:24
SII suggested that's a possibility and a veteran quarterback I think the draft is going to be a little more about just
1:05:31
kind of accumulating the Rams have been very great about getting guys in second third fourth fifth rounds that become
1:05:36
very good players they they uh skewed first round picks for a number of years I could see us moving back to get that
1:05:43
process there because we're spending money in free agency and what will this remind you of the offseason heading into
1:05:50
2016 where we went heavy defense free agency and we built a winner
1:05:55
surprisingly out of nowhere because of that yeah I I this is going to go one of two ways I think we're either going to
1:06:02
draft right or wrong we're going to either draft the quarterback in the first round either trading up trading
1:06:08
down or staying the same staying at the same place and having somebody fall into us or we're going to do what sai's
1:06:15
talking about and we'll we'll get into that later but basically passing on the quarterback this year maybe taking a
1:06:21
shot at one in in second third fourth round but using that first pick on like a Carter like you absolutely and then
1:06:29
and then and and that might be the safer thing if you think dav's going to get fired next year the problem the only
1:06:36
problem is is you got to hope whoever pre agent or trade that they make for the veteran isn't so costly that it ties
1:06:44
their financial hands in the 20126 so we got
1:06:51
stuck with Daniel Jones for two years because of the contract you do you want to stick a new coach with a quarterback
1:07:00
in 2026 um that he doesn't really want so that's that's that's where this whole
1:07:07
self-preservation versus long-term thing comes in I there are going to be a lot of fans out there that are going to be
1:07:13
pissed off at this whole discussion because you and I are already writing off the 2025 season and um and I'm sorry
1:07:21
to say that but that but barring a miracle Giants fans the 2025 season season is going to be as ugly as hell
1:07:27
and um we got to it depends it depends well
1:07:32
come on think about this you're talking about getting an other defensive system in here now a completely new defensive
1:07:38
coordinator new defensive system you're probably going to make other that means you're probably going to make other coaching changes too and then you're
1:07:44
going to talk about a new quarterback and then you're going to talk about a new play caller if D's going to have the play calls because I think CF cf's gone
1:07:52
so you're talking about you're talking about again a big learning it's almost
1:07:57
like into this year I said we have the benefit of continuity but we we just
1:08:04
changed two and a half of our coordinators we had a brand new special teams coach we had a brand new defensive
1:08:10
coordinator and CFA got his Kafka stayed but he got got demoted even though he
1:08:15
got a promotion in the title as aist so so so so I'll say this let me take the opposite side of this because I think
1:08:23
some people think sometimes we we just agree I think it just works out that way we didn't plan it that way that's why Gary wants to come on he wants yeah he
1:08:29
wants to be all different so I I'll be I'll be different because I actually think differently um but I'll ask you
1:08:36
this question first though if the Giants fire Bowen and move up somebody else on the
1:08:42
roster already there so a Henderson a Henderson or a Patterson and they move them up and say you're the defensive
1:08:48
coordinator do you still feel the same way at least on the defensive side that
1:08:53
it's a huge learning curve I feel better from a continuity standpoint okay okay whether they can handle it I don't know
1:09:00
but I don't I don't I don't know that I I you know that when I listen to both those guys they impress me but that
1:09:05
doesn't mean anything sure but but I'm just going with your question on you know continuity yeah but that would that
1:09:11
from a continuity standpoint yes but we got but wouldn't but wouldn't that theory have been in place coming off
1:09:19
from the 21 season into 22 we had a we got a brand new head coach we got a brand new defensive coordinator we got a
1:09:25
brand new offensive coordinator we had all stuff all new and the Giants won nine games right but we had a really
1:09:31
easy schedule the schedule for 20125 is a nightmare you're gonna say care theu I
1:09:37
know you don't but that's a scary schedule I mean the teams are all the playoff teams but
1:09:43
again number of those I know what you're saying and we're gonna agree to disagree on this but the teams the teams that are
1:09:49
in the playoffs this year are going to be good next year not necess by the way first off we play Dallas who not good
1:09:56
right now and and could be worse come next year Washington has holes they made
1:10:02
the playoffs yes they've got a quarterback yes but we we we should have beaten them in the first game if we had
1:10:07
a real quarterback we would have if we had a kicker if we had a kicker goddamn it we I gotta bring up I gotta bring up
1:10:14
the opponent list of opponents while you're talking it's bad Sean it is bad but there's but there's also so much is
1:10:19
going to change for a number of those teams there are a lot of those teams right now that if you look at the 2 five
1:10:25
just 25 offseason cap space uh I believe do we we get the Saints they're at the bottom of the hill of everything they
1:10:32
are not only do they ultimately won't have a quarterback because they're moving on from Carr they have the least
1:10:37
amount or better yet they are the most over the cap as any team in there they have such contracts that are so bad it
1:10:43
makes the Browns look good and the Browns are next do we play Seattle is Seattle on me see all right
1:10:50
so home I'm bringing up home home games are Dallas pH Philadelphia is going to be a nightmare still
1:10:55
Washington I disagree with you because they have so much cap room now they're going to be much better next year we'll
1:11:01
see um Green Bay Kansas City Chargers Minnesota San the easy team is San
1:11:07
Francisco which you know is going to rebound so um The Way games are actually a little easier but we got to play
1:11:14
Detroit um and but the easy ones on that are Vegas and we got Carolina we have
1:11:20
Carolina um no I don't think we play car oh no we didn't we were gonna play Carolina but they beat Atlanta yeah right we got New Orleans we got New
1:11:26
Orleans so so they if the home games are actually tougher than than the we're getting off on a t my point is though
1:11:33
but my but my point is it's just if you just focus on the Giants right don't don't worry about who they're playing
1:11:39
for the moment right change was going to happen no matter what if you fired everybody and you brought in new coaches
1:11:46
they're not wiping the roster clean because they only you can only do so much so they would have been saddled
1:11:51
with a good portion of the of the players we have now D ball saddled with the play players that he has now a lot
1:11:56
of them you chose them specifically you deal with it so I don't
1:12:01
have a problem Chang the defensive coordinator I don't think the scheme matters because quite frankly I think we tried to play a hybrid of wink scheme
1:12:07
with Bowen and guess what wink scheme sucked last year the year before and Bowen was just tragically bad we
1:12:14
interviewed and we interviewed Henderson last year didn't we he was on the list of people that got interviewed I believe
1:12:19
yes that's not a bad thought John so we might want to keep an eye on that because I think that's your easiest way to go for your piece that you mentioned
1:12:26
who are you going to get if you're worried about the head coach going so stay in that's the problem that's my fear right now CU last year we got our
1:12:33
third choice it's going to be worse this year so if you got a young hot guy he's got he's interviewing a four five six
1:12:39
seven teams and the Giants is one of them and you know D's on the thinnest of thin again we're not D's not just on
1:12:45
thin ice he's on the thinnest of ice right now so what did what did John Maris said John Maris said I don't want
1:12:52
to go to back too far but he said I'm going to have to be in a better mood
1:12:58
this time next year than I am right now it better not take too long because I've
1:13:03
just about run out of patience so again he may me posturing again we've heard that before this from the guy who said
1:13:09
we need to have patience and then said I'm out of patience um one thing we forgot to mention so I don't mean to go
1:13:14
back to dball but it's important because we were just talking about the players a question was asked of dball
1:13:19
specifically some of the players felt that there was a lack of accountability
1:13:25
was some of the like that the young players I.E rookies yeah and he kind of dodged it
1:13:33
that like that question did you get a feeling that that went with the rumor that you had heard that that uh uh
1:13:40
neighbors kind of dogs it a little bit not dogs it go question I didn't pop
1:13:45
into my mind when he said when that happened it's actually the first time I'd heard that a reporter talk have you
1:13:51
was that the first time you heard a reporter talk about that's the first time I've heard a reporter but I hear I did hear Bobby Skinner bring it up about
1:13:57
stuff he's heard from somebody that neighbors doesn't go all out and practice Yeah I'm either I miss
1:14:03
something or or that was the first time I heard a reporter actually bring that up because my first reaction was like
1:14:08
where's that coming from so but yeah for those who who don't know what John's asking I had
1:14:14
heard weeks ago and I'm not sure I completely agree with this anymore that Malik was kind of dogging it in practice
1:14:21
um because I don't think um somebody who dogs that I think he Malik played hurt
1:14:28
with a lot of different injuries down the stretch and and I so I give him credit for for that so um what was the
1:14:35
question he specifically asked wasn't countability that's what it was
1:14:42
it was accountability so doing it well dogging it does get into accountability
1:14:47
though because it was basic it was tied very at the Young rookies at the rookies
1:14:52
so that I thought all I I thought thought about Deontay Banks immediately when I when they said that yeah I mean
1:14:58
that's certainly but they but see they did kind of deal with him they benched him they they didn't play him they
1:15:04
pulled him off still it didn't still register I mean so there were games where like he
1:15:10
doesn't seem like even Sai talked about in the last game he thought he was making business decisions oh yeah I
1:15:15
don't like the guy I I I he Lo when you don't try on a running play in a game where it's unbelievably important that
1:15:22
you try to me you told me everything I need to know about you I don't care whether you're winning or losing that
1:15:28
means your heart's not in this you're not and by the way you get burned
1:15:33
constantly you have zero idea where the ball is Banks is one of the most and again
1:15:40
I'm not going to give up on him yet because I want to see what the new defensive coer does but Deontay Banks unquestionably is one of the most
1:15:45
disappointing players on the team this year um so one I'm speaking of disappointing players hayatt hayatt came
1:15:51
up again I was just not given up on hayatt he's like me I don't did you pick that up I did but he some somebody's
1:16:00
lying somebody's lying somebody's lying why what do you mean so the question was
1:16:06
asked so ha so basically let to to catch up because what you were just saying um
1:16:12
you want me read The Shane was yeah sh where Shane was asked about hayatt yeah he said I still have a lot of confidence
1:16:17
in Jaylen some of it comes down to his skill set utilizing his skill set he's a
1:16:23
vertical guy that can take the top off and can run he's an explosive playmaker so part of that starts with getting
1:16:30
somebody in here who can hopefully utilize his skill set and then he went on and talked about what the offense
1:16:36
would look like with neighbors fil Johnson Tracy he said getting the right quarterback to work with them so he seem
1:16:43
to be throwing the quarterback under the bus so back so back it up go back one question before that yeah on this on the
1:16:51
transcript go back to the question I don't I didn't pronounce the whole transcript okay so that's fine my fault I I know what it
1:16:58
is so the lead in was we talked to Jaylen earlier Jaylen indicated that he
1:17:04
wasn't very happy with it of his play and and about being here next year he said we'll see yes they ask Shane Shane
1:17:12
goes well wait a minute are you talking about because I talked to H Jaylen afterwards he's getting a thing done so
1:17:18
D and I couldn't couldn't meet with him so I'm assuming he's having surgery or something thre Darius in there too what so what he said was oh that was
1:17:25
answering a question asked him about Slayton if slayton's not here and blah blah blah I went back and watched the
1:17:30
high interview that's not completely true the question was asked if Darius
1:17:36
isn't here do you expect to be the guy to take his place you'll be the one to be getting those place he goes he goes I
1:17:42
don't know well that's honest answer though but that's but then they said then they asked him about you know your
1:17:48
use of you know your your usage here do you think it's right or you know or a
1:17:53
change of scenery he's like we'll see he said we'll see to a change of scenery he did not say we'll see if you're the guy
1:18:00
who's going to replace Slayton he was very unhappy with how he was being used
1:18:05
he said things here are bad when they said oh well did you you know uh it's
1:18:11
been announced that Shane and D are coming back he's oh yeah good good good for them yeah so K's not a happy camper
1:18:18
no and I don't expect him to be I know people are going to think that I'm a cheerleader for Jaylen hayatt
1:18:26
I this is going to sound I'm this is g to sound very giant likee I don't give
1:18:31
up on talent and I think D Jaylen has has been not used the right way I do now
1:18:38
he you know that sounds like I'm going on a Lim on this I'm the one who's going out on a limb on this I don't think he
1:18:44
has been used the right way and if I was Jaylen I would be pissed I I would personally be pissed because I'd be like
1:18:51
what why am I sitting on the bench on a team that can't score points now Giants fans are going to go out there and look
1:18:57
and say you can't play through press coverage you're not a physical guy and
1:19:02
you've dropped some passes that you probably should have come up with now I don't think his hands are a problem I've said that repeatedly um I actually think
1:19:10
he has natural hands um I think I do think they have not been using him the
1:19:15
right way though and that's kind of what Shane was saying and so there maybe a disconnect here between Shane this may
1:19:21
be one of the areas where there's a disconnect between Shane and D on this um because clearly the offensive the
1:19:28
coaches don't feel the same way that Shane is is doing because it's not just a matter of not having the right
1:19:33
quarterback hayatt hasn't even been on the field they're not even putting him on the field to have the opportunity to
1:19:38
be with the wrong quarterback there so I know I'm going out on a limb on this and I've said this earlier if they get rid
1:19:45
of Jaylen hayatt he's one of those players I I would wouldn't be surprised
1:19:50
if he goes on and has a better career someplace else because I do not think they've used them the right way I not now that being said I he has his
1:19:57
limitations and I don't think he's a complete stud I don't think he's an
1:20:02
allaround receiver but there is a role for a guy that can blow the top off the defense and that's what Joe Shane was
1:20:08
talking about he was saying if you team both neighbors and the Johnson and you've got someone who can they they got
1:20:14
they got a back off on then the Johnson's got a lot and Tra Tracy have a lot of room to work underneath on
1:20:20
underneath routs because the the safety's got to back off on on the high that's where I'm coming from yeah and
1:20:26
and and you're not wrong but I'm I'll say this first um you and I were talking about uh different shows that maybe we
1:20:33
could we could take clips from and and funny little things for for for other shows where we put them in the
1:20:38
front jayen hayatt to me is the John rafio of the Giants right at the moment
1:20:45
he might as well be talking about how successful entertainment 720 is yeah to
1:20:50
how much success he's had on the field okay he's like if you mentioned the show
1:20:55
for those who don't know what you're talking about yes it's parks and W you need you need to look it up and
1:21:01
look up entertainment 720 uh oh my God all I picture with with I
1:21:08
was gonna say John rafhael all I picture with Jaylen ha is the is the video from
1:21:14
I believe it was like the combine workouts yeah where he was bragging to the Cowboys coach who talked about
1:21:20
you're the type of receiver goes well what type of I no coach what type of receiver am I the arrogance that he gave
1:21:26
there at first you thought you know what good for you young man don't be labeled now I'm going that coach was probably
1:21:31
100% right you are a one- trick pony you are run down the field unfortunately
1:21:36
you're a guy who could catch a pass from Jeff George but instead we put Tommy Maddox back there so we didn't have a
1:21:43
chance to get it to you but you do have to beat coverage you do need to do something on the field before you can start giving attitude in a way that says
1:21:50
the Giants if you were really doing stuff you would have been on the field okay now let's now let me play Your Role
1:21:55
here and say you're 100% right and Jaylen hilot is probably going to end up being a bust and probably a bad bust
1:22:02
because they trade it up for him so say you're right but this disconnect again with Shane Shane Shane says Maya kulpa
1:22:10
I'm the blame but he won't when he asks for specifics he won't admit to the specifics so he won't say Jaylen Hyatt
1:22:17
was a mistake he won't say Daniel Jones was a mistake he so and he talked about
1:22:23
well yeah we we we like to go back I'm still learning and I'm go back and find
1:22:28
out where we're making mistakes but when you you know some people don't like being told you made a mistake you know
1:22:35
I'm not going to say anyone in my house but when I when you tell them you did something wrong they some people get
1:22:41
pissed off and they don't take that very well and and um it's a natural reaction
1:22:47
but you know so it's different when you say specifically admit to the mistake
1:22:53
than it is when you say oh I make mistakes and that's kind of what I got the impression with James when they press they pressed him on stuff let me
1:22:59
see if there's any lasting I don't you know CU with because with that I want to uh real quick though you brought it up
1:23:04
so I want to ask you yeah you you've mentioned more than once what he said about the Daniel Jones thing he was
1:23:10
pressed on it and he said based on the what we had at the time now what he said but what he said more specifically was
1:23:16
coming off a playoff run so for all of you who have said that Viking thing it it played a role it was huge it was
1:23:25
Factor but I do think though that they came down to the two pieces I've said it over and over again and I know I I can
1:23:31
take it to my grave I guess I I think the Barkley thing played a much bigger role in it and again you can dummy up
1:23:37
the contract to a quarterback much easier than you can to a running back and Barkley was not going to take [ __ ] dollars he every dollar was
1:23:44
going to be very specific and it was going to be probably guaranteed he wanted to make sure he was going to get paid Jones I think loved the fact that
1:23:51
he's got this huge ass contract even if it worked out to only in two years ultimately for him he got to throw his
1:23:58
name up there with all those other quarterbacks with the contracts but we knew we all said it from day one this is
1:24:03
a two-year deal if he screws up there he's gone there's a tyeing with your Club 7 was it 721 720 no 720 he's got
1:24:10
the money so he's like I'm flushed with cash baby
1:24:15
he said there were two times that came up he said we made a decision with Daniel after the playoff run so there
1:24:21
you go the way we structured the contract was we were we're going to do the best we can to try to surround him
1:24:27
with weapons upgrade the offensive line which we did this year and see how far
1:24:33
we could go with Daniel that's key that last part that see how far we could go yes unfortunately it did not work out
1:24:40
but at the same time our hands are not tied behind our back financially we're in good shape we're in a good cap
1:24:46
situation we have draft Capital to make changes but he earlier had said we also had to be conscious of what
1:24:54
we may have on the horizon at quarterback working on Parallel tracks I thought that was the big the big
1:25:00
parallel tracks so they had two plans Daniel might pan out Daniel might not pan out so we're sitting here with $40
1:25:07
million in cap space and on 100 million the following year so he didn't finish the parallel tracks thing because he
1:25:15
couldn't but he was basically saying we have a plan in place in case Daniel didn't and that's what was in Hard
1:25:21
Knocks too that's the vibe we got abolutely and he confirmed it and then later on what pissed me off was he is
1:25:29
again this is the thing we wouldn't change what we did with Daniel given what we knew then we wouldn't change it
1:25:34
what bothers me about that is one just come out and say if we had to do it all over again we would have done
1:25:40
it differently that's the honest answer but I think he said the process though not the we with the with the process we
1:25:46
had we would have done based on what they had now that's stupid because because then the process is wrong that
1:25:52
the thing is I sorry to interrupt I just No No I um what bothers me about this is It's
1:26:00
draft picks when you're doing draft picks and doing scouting it's very difficult to know what a player is going
1:26:06
to be like because it's hard to to change from college to Pros you don't
1:26:12
know what the work habits are going to be like you don't know how they'll deal with the New York City area all these all these things there's a b Bill wassh
1:26:18
wrote a whole book on why rookies are rookies and why they fail right fantastic read
1:26:24
they had Daniel Jones under their thumb for a full year they knew what he could
1:26:30
and couldn't do they had to change their offense because of him they knew what he couldn't do and they still misjudged him
1:26:37
that's what bothers me so I can understand mistakes happening and mistakes are always going to happen even
1:26:43
when they you do have players on your on your roster but that was a Monumental mistake and it's the why they're in the
1:26:48
situation they're in and we all know it it's the elephant in the room and they don't want to address it
1:26:54
be either out of Pride or out of this thing that they want to protect Daniel's Eagles still I don't know what it is but
1:27:02
or or they're just stubborn or they they just don't want but that's what bothers me just say we SC how let me put this
1:27:09
way would you feel much better right now if they had come out and said we messed
1:27:14
up we know we messed up and we're going to try to fix it but
1:27:20
we messed up in the 2023 off season that screwed us up and and if we had to do it
1:27:25
all over again we would have done it differently and we apologize for that I'd feel so much better if they' done
1:27:31
that yeah I mean I guess from a psychological standpoint I get it I get it no because you're meing to it no no no I mean for you I you I mean you as a
1:27:38
generic fan me as a fan yes I get that do could you do me a favor on the what you just read could you read it again
1:27:43
just the part about the contract very specifically where he starts talking
1:27:49
about the contract right away it's something about two years oh yes we made a decision with Daniel after the playoff
1:27:56
run the way we structured the contract was we were going to do the best we can to to surround him with weapons upgrade
1:28:03
the offensive line which we did this year and then he goes in talks about the cap situation this year is that what you
1:28:08
mean or no right before he said specifically two years oh oh oh the parallel tracks we're so so you're
1:28:14
saying we're sitting here with 40 million Camp doll no no no no no I thought right in the beginning didn't he
1:28:20
say we did a two-year basically a two-year deal oh I yeah did but I don't have that part in okay okay I'm sorry I
1:28:26
thought I thought I you did it from memory um that to me is very telling
1:28:31
they knew they knew that they were only doing two so this goes back to the summer when
1:28:36
I said he's gone no matter what and you said I don't know about that and I kept thinking I don't think he would have been gone if he played well this
1:28:43
year he'd be here I I I no I I think he unless he threw 35 touchdown passes
1:28:49
which he's never done anything like that anyway I think they knew they well so so
1:28:54
say they got the wild card this year what then what's the difference between then them giving him the 160 million in
1:29:01
20123 and them keeping the contract at this point so I don't think they would have got well my no no no because I he
1:29:07
admitted it I think the parallel tracks thing admits that played well they would have kept them but they didn't say that
1:29:14
though what they said was is we will go as far as we can go with him see we keep
1:29:20
forgetting that the roster was pretty shitty so they still were trying to f in more players on the roster and they were
1:29:27
hoping I think that they could just keep Daniel and if you gave him a little bit more maybe you could get 23 touchdown
1:29:33
passes instead of 15 but you know then he got then he looked so horrifically bad in 23 that they were like holy [ __ ]
1:29:42
but they couldn't get out of it but they had the year to they knew they had one more year he didn't even make it the full two years so I'm not giving him
1:29:49
credit for make for giving him the dumbass contract but I am thinking though that I I think you can read the
1:29:55
writing on the wall here that this the contract was framed in such a way for D ball and Shane to get out of
1:30:02
it it got them what mea wanted to have happen which is one of those two guys had to get a contract and the other guy
1:30:08
couldn't leave so you flip them either way I don't care whether it's Barkley Jones who gets the contract who gets the
1:30:14
franchise they wanted to keep that group intact is what is what maror wanted that
1:30:20
gets back and then we should cut this short but that gets back to you and I thinking we know something
1:30:27
that we don't really know right we can't we think that mea put his thumb on the
1:30:33
scale on this but we don't really really know now that's the other big P fly big
1:30:38
picture thing here if mea in 2023 mandated that those guys came back
1:30:46
then you can kind of understand why he would bring them back this year because he's at fall ultimately right but if
1:30:53
they signed off on it and they agreed with him then no but but if if mea there
1:30:59
might be a guilt Factor here if mea did but we will never know that we'll never know that true that we don't know we
1:31:04
don't know if mea tied their hands behind their backs or not we we just don't we just don't know or if they just
1:31:10
went along with it or they're the ones who went to meor we the worst case scenar them would be is they convinced I
1:31:17
don't think that's what happened but they meor because I think meor mea felt for whatever reason guess goes back to
1:31:22
we've done everything we could could possibly do to screw this guy up and I don't want to lose B park I think we
1:31:28
know that I mean I I think I think the the deal was done with Shane I think the rumors that you heard and other people
1:31:34
have heard um about that that that was already done the only reason you meet
1:31:39
with d ball before that last game of the season is because you're trying to decide that come Monday what are you gonna do and and what and in some ways
1:31:47
I'm gonna give Mera credit if that is true because he wanted to hear stuff from from D ball before the game if you
1:31:55
wait for the game to decide a game in which in the back of your mind whether you tell everybody you want it to win or
1:32:01
not in the back of your mind you're okay if we lose and stay right at the top of the draft pick because it's the last game of the season it means nothing if
1:32:09
you were going to use that as your deciding factor you're more lost at this thing than I thought well well and I
1:32:15
have to go one up on you I've said they should have done that ear even earlier cuz I said in the last show I I said if
1:32:21
you were going you they they should have had this conversation weeks ago because nothing that happened
1:32:27
in the last couple of games two or three games should have decided the fate and they should have told dble that he was
1:32:35
going to be safe or not before because that would have
1:32:40
affected how he coached these games well the second you went DeVito and then you went you went lock and then you went
1:32:47
back to lock again you know you decide okay we're gonna stay with lock at this point you've thrown [ __ ] right out the
1:32:53
window that meaning should have happened then certainly should have happened after lock throws to two pick sixes
1:32:59
against the Falcons and you get embarrassed at this point you know there's just a couple of games left what
1:33:04
are we trying to do here now winning means absolutely nothing at this point what are we trying to do know what why
1:33:10
did they play lock at the end of the year when DeVito got healthy again I still don't even understand that because Lock's not going to be here next year I
1:33:16
hope he's not here next I wonder if they were maybe he will be back I don't know but I wonder if they were actually
1:33:22
worried that DeVito brings a bit more of an energy I thought about to the crowd
1:33:27
to the team to the but remember dble supposedly doesn't know he's coming back
1:33:33
so he wants the win so in my D if we're accepting the one thing I will say too
1:33:39
is we're taking everything some of this at face value everybody could be lying every oh sure there could be so I'm sure
1:33:46
some of this is lying because there's contradictions and all that so we we don't even know if the decision like I
1:33:52
think happened we don't even know really meeting happened on Friday the meeting happened on Friday I think Shane Shane's
1:33:57
demeanor like you said right his demeanor was one way and D balls was completely different yeah those two guys
1:34:04
are on on a they were on a different track back like and that's why I wonder if there's tension between them now more
1:34:11
tension not like they're not I'm not talking about George Young Bill parcel's tension I'm talking about they were
1:34:16
buddy buddy before and I'm wondering right now if let there be maybe it'll make you a coach better yeah yeah so it
1:34:22
what going to be interesting to me is I want to see Brian dable have a better
1:34:28
attitude next year um dealing with the Press dealing with his team he's having
1:34:34
more fight in him because he looks like a beaten down guy to me I wouldn't mad I wouldn't be upset if he put on weight
1:34:40
weight again and know I just it just doesn't seem like the same guy to me anymore he just seems so beaten down and
1:34:46
I know but and people going to say well U 14 losses will do that he would look beaten down when they were two and five
1:34:53
he he just doesn't seem like the same guy to me well if the pounds equate to to uh to victories I say hit a
1:35:00
buffet big ma it's like just go for it dude come over to my house right now
1:35:05
with the holidays I gotta stop so anyway I was I was at a I was at a Giants preseason game against the Patriots a
1:35:11
number of years ago um in the preseason game I was it was in it was in New
1:35:17
England so I was I was you know sitting with a crowd and there was a handoff to Ben Jarvis Green Ellis I don't know if
1:35:22
you remember Ben Jaris running back with the Patriots and he got tackled like like a like literally a
1:35:28
half a yard from The End Zone and I don't know why I said it CU it was kind of funny at the moment like I was surrounded by Patriots fans I'm like oh
1:35:35
man if he had one more last name he would have scored I was like like so many people are like just like laugh I
1:35:40
was like I thought it was funny but I didn't think it was hysterical but now I'm wondering about day ball if we if we got to fatten that dude up for some wins
1:35:46
it's like Santa Claus get that guy some cookies he's running out of energy he doesn't have enough energy in him he's
1:35:52
he's getting too beaten down so anyway all right let's wrap this up so that was my take on this the big picture thing is
1:35:58
is they all came out separately it was kind of weird bring them out one at a time in secession on the same day see
1:36:05
and in an odd order too yeah and and it seemed like you know and at the end they
1:36:10
they finally got the table out for Shane uh you know so it looked a little more
1:36:16
formal yeah D ball got a Podium he got this little spot and they asked him they're like you know uh is why isn't
1:36:23
Joe Shan you're with you and he's like he'll be he'll be in after his attitude did not seem great about he didn't seem
1:36:29
happy about a lot of things you know it was like so I read the transcript first and I thought did he come off as bad as
1:36:36
he coming off in the train right he did actually like oh my goodness you should
1:36:41
be kind of kissing your lucky stars here or whatever thanking your here so we're we'll we'll be ending this now but
1:36:47
before we do before we do the next one because we don't we don't know when we're going to do the next one do you expect to see any changes to the staff
1:36:54
or at least do we do we expect to start hearing something or is it going to drag out a great question I would hopefully
1:37:00
hope we start hearing something soon um the problem is there's a bunch of teams
1:37:05
putting together coaching staffs right now and so if you're a coach out there do you want to go with the Giants who
1:37:11
who have a lame duck coach and again I'm getting real big 1996 Vibes with this
1:37:17
with Dan Dan Reeves final lame duck year um do you want to go into that mess or do you want to go into something where
1:37:23
you're a little more secure cuz remember these guys got families so you're talking about bringing your children with you and your wife to move to a new
1:37:29
area and you don't want to do that again a year from now so um that's why I
1:37:35
wonder your idea maybe sticking with somebody in house on on defense might make might make sense they might have to
1:37:42
at that stage um unless they get like again like you said the ciny defensive coordinator who has ties ties here um
1:37:49
but yeah I expect to hear some changes I just don't know when and a lot of it I think it's going to be tied to um the
1:37:57
other coaching situations around the NFL right now how many coaches have gotten do you know off the top of your head
1:38:02
we've got uh let's see uh you've got New Orleans I don't mean to put you on the spot no no that's F New Orleans the Jets
1:38:08
they they they're without the Raiders are out um and then Jets got screwed with Vel because I think vel's probably
1:38:16
Patriots Patriots that's with that yeah um see see Vel may want the Jaguars jagu
1:38:23
see I I wouldn't be shocked if the Giants try to couch the getting rid of Bowen thing as we want to do him a favor
1:38:29
and let him go back with Rabel and maybe maybe that's actually
1:38:34
what he wants too and that'd be great for us because I think want to get out of this situ look the giant Kafka
1:38:40
doesn't want I I again this is all speculation I can't imagine Kafka wants to be here anymore watch for Ken dorsy I
1:38:47
expect Ken dorsy to be added to this staff if Ken if Ken dorsy is not in
1:38:52
demand which I don't think he would be but if Ken dorsy you got to get guys that aren't going to be in demand high
1:38:58
demand because again lame duck situation with Brian Dall and it's also familiarity right dorsy and Dall work
1:39:05
together that I don't care what you think of the guy as a coach you say oh he didn't do that well here or there we
1:39:11
don't know that all I do know is that when he was with d ball when they were with Buffalo they were with Josh Allen
1:39:17
it was a cohesive unit with those guys he knows what D ball wants to do and if D Ball's going to give up play calling
1:39:23
who might he be willing to give it to a guy who was already working with him because he's still technically the play
1:39:28
caller well didn't he want dorsy in 2022 he didn't he probably would have preferred D dorsy took dorsy took over
1:39:35
for him in Buffalo as the offensive coordinator got fired right but I think he if he had his brothers he would have
1:39:41
had dorsy come with him then I would think I totally agree but they moved him up to offensive coordinator they keep
1:39:47
him from the Giants probably say in Buffalo absolutely I think that's why they did it is to keep him from going to
1:39:52
the Giants sure cuz they had already lost their offensive line coach to us too they you know so that didn't go over
1:39:59
that didn't go over too well didn't work out the good news for me is I don't have to change revamp the entire coaching
1:40:05
staff section of the website so that nice that's good I don't have to write a
1:40:11
Daniel Jones write up for first time in six years I don't have to do a summary write up on Daniel Jones he's on the
1:40:17
active roster now for the mines Vikings so but so watch the I will because I
1:40:22
don't think I don't think you and I will do another one this the rest of this week maybe maybe not I don't unless it
1:40:28
dep on breaking news we should do we we can do short ones on breaking news and I think you had a good idea we should ask
1:40:35
Sai to come on and discuss his offseason preliminary offseason thoughts on what
1:40:41
the Giants should do and he laid some of those out in his game review for the Giants Philly game there's a at the
1:40:46
bottom he kind of gave his preliminary thoughts on what he thought the giant should do at quarterback and other things if you haven't seen it read it
1:40:53
cuz yeah provocative it'll get you know some people will say yeah makes sense other people will say no I don't want to do that um so read that but I think it
1:41:00
would be great to have him come on and sort of outline all of this so absolutely so watch the playoffs this
1:41:06
weekend um the the quarterback landscape is really going to be determined on a
1:41:12
couple things and one of them is a game very specifically with the Vikings and the Rams one of those teams that
1:41:17
there're are going to take a a quick exit out of the playoffs somebody's going to lose on Monday night whichever
1:41:22
one that is if it's the Rams they've got some salary things that they need to deal with they've got an older
1:41:28
quarterback and a higher salary and they were possibly looking to move on from him already during the season they might
1:41:35
be time to for them to look and then want to move in a different direction he could become available via trade or free
1:41:41
agency if they make a longer run in the playoffs that changes it the Vikings the same thing if darnold takes the Vikings
1:41:47
deep into the playoffs they'll forget about the ghost game against the Lions where he looked really bad and may want
1:41:53
to stick with him keep that veteran piece and then McCarthy becomes a trade
1:41:58
piece for other teams again think of what Shane said about the work they did
1:42:04
on that draft class carries over that it's still a possibility that we might
1:42:09
send trade picks to go get JJ M but they have to check out that knee there's been two surgeries on that knee already so um
1:42:16
so that's two teams that are really going to control one of the veterans is going to either be let go free which is
1:42:24
darnold's currently going to be a free agent or they'll resign him or somebody's going to get cut or traded
1:42:29
that would be Stafford so depends on what happens see I'm more excited about the off season I'm getting oh yeah this
1:42:35
is the new life of Giants fans we're gonna we're so we're like the old Washington Commander Redskins they win
1:42:42
the offseason but lose that's who we are now but I'm excited about the offseason free agency the draft and we'll see I
1:42:48
just hope mea's instincts are
1:42:54
here and you know he said you know the good thing about this offseason is it we're going to find out very
1:43:01
quickly truly what their process is what they might have wanted to do if they
1:43:07
immediately go get a veteran and it's not just a low tier guy if they go get a guy who's known and they feel like if he
1:43:13
was on our team we would have done better and they stock up in some other areas to make that happen I think we're
1:43:19
going to spend some money free agency probably on weapons either either like a a t hains to play opposite neighbors
1:43:25
definitely a corner and then use the draft for what it's really supposed to be for really filling your team not just
1:43:32
one Superstar and then hopefully you get maybe another player yeah the thing is is the free
1:43:38
agency is going to probably Telegraph what they're going to do in the draft and that's generally the case anyways
1:43:43
but especially this year so if they don't do much in free agency at quarterback they're going to draft a
1:43:48
quarterback High well yeah you don't they spend bucks or spend or trade for a veter that expects to play they'll
1:43:55
probably draft a quarterback in a later round in the draft like and when I say later it doesn't mean to be late in
1:44:00
draft it can be second even as high as a second round remember the Giants are going to be picking at the top of the
1:44:06
second round it's they have the second pick in the second round I think now second or the third pick in the in that
1:44:12
and so they'll three I think goes three two one yeah so they'll be able to you know they could even trade back into the
1:44:18
first round if they want to and you know that's kind where I'm leaning right now
1:44:24
of C assuming cam Ward's gone I think the Giants would probably be better off right now taking somebody like Carter
1:44:31
like you were talking absolutely um I know a lot of people and we'll talk about this later but the hunter guy scares me a little bit for
1:44:39
the reason just does he doesn't yeah it doesn't do it for me anyway and I like to have a pass rush there too Mason Graham interests me but that's really
1:44:45
high for a defensive tackle so we'll talk about this L we we'll talk about so yeah so we want to wrap it up but for those of you who are all pissed off
1:44:51
because I mentioned Aaron Rogers earlier uh the Giants quarterbacks over the last two years combined have thrown 30
1:44:56
touchdown passes Aaron Rogers threw 28 this year so I'm thinking don't just throw them out of there just because you
1:45:01
don't like them um our options are limited you we need to keep every they got get a quarter they got to get a
1:45:07
quarterback and none of the out there are great if we put every a every quarterback um option out there there
1:45:14
would be nothing that's terribly popular and that's the horrible situation we're in right now but if you want jamus
1:45:20
Winston you shouldn't be shoting on possibly and Aaron Rogers like yeah but that being said like subscribe
1:45:29
all that good stuff comment we I I know I'm trying to pay more attention again back to the comments to comment back I was doing it a lot I've been super busy
1:45:35
between work and this so um and I know right now Eric's getting the signal probably telling him he's late for dinner I know no I'm actually looking at
1:45:41
the time we went way long again we went way long I'm way I'm way late on M so that being said I love doing the show if
1:45:49
we have breaking news we'll we'll do it but you'll certainly hear from us again next week but uh until then uh appreciate it and uh we'll catch you
1:45:55
down the line
