want to thank you guys for coming and
0:02
covering uh Penn State
0:04
football
0:06
um just looking for Neil is Neil here
0:09
and even Neil yeah appreciate all you
0:12
guys cover coming covering Penn State
0:13
football and even Neil that was a joke
0:16
Neil not funny huh everybody laughed
0:18
yeah nobody nobody laughed uh want to
0:22
thank the fans obviously
0:25
110,000 uh awesome we just get such
0:27
unbelievable support week in and week
0:29
out we don't take that for granted um
0:32
you know our defense couple things kind
0:34
of jump out about them I think our third
0:37
quarter defense all Year's been been
0:39
ridiculous uh 87 yards all year on 46
0:43
plays 1.9 yards per play um I think this
0:49
this game we held UCLA to minus n yards
0:53
in the third in the third quarter uh so
0:56
that was significant really cool to see
0:58
Liam Clifford uh with over a 100 yards
1:01
today so now you you watch on tape Trey
1:04
Trey has beat people um U Omari
1:08
obviously is is an issue Liam showing up
1:12
Julian showing up the tight end showing
1:13
up the running back so uh makes it
1:16
difficult when they're not sure who they
1:18
can or will take away in the game but
1:21
great to see Liam have his first 100 100
1:23
yard game Penn State is 5-0 for the
1:27
fourth straight Year we're the only
1:30
School in the country to start 5 and0 in
1:33
each of the last four years and it's the
1:35
first time that that's happened in
1:37
school history so something we take a
1:39
lot of pride
1:40
in and then our defense has held Big 10
1:43
opponents under a 100 yards rushing in
1:46
four straight games and 15 of the last
1:48
16 games so that was that was cool uh
1:51
having PW back was great um um you know
1:56
getting a chance to be with him and his
1:59
wife and his kids uh was was really cool
2:03
obviously great linebacker here at Penn
2:05
State and lbu and then jur vious as well
2:09
hasn't been back in a long time and was
2:11
with us this week obvious daughter is
2:13
killing it uh is killing it with our
2:16
volleyball team so great having these
2:17
Letterman back and spending time with
2:19
them we won the we won the U explosive
2:22
play Battle not by much but we did uh we
2:25
won the third down b battle we won the
2:27
sack battle uh we won the starting field
2:30
position battle and then the big one
2:33
which I'm not sure who it was
2:35
specifically a bunch of you guys to be
2:37
honest with you um but most importantly
2:40
uh the penalty battle we had two
2:41
penalties in the game for 20 yards that
2:44
was that was big we talked about the
2:45
importance of getting that cleaned up uh
2:47
now that we're in Big 10 plays that's a
2:49
step in the right direction that we got
2:51
to build on so overall a lot of good
2:54
things to
2:55
celebrate um again we appreciate the
2:57
fans we appreciate your support and open
3:00
up the questions mark James how do you
3:03
think the offense adjusted to not having
3:05
Nick and Neil was wondering if you give
3:07
us a status of day Monday oh
3:12
yeah um P me off the
3:16
yeah we um I thought we'd have him
3:20
Thursday I thought we'd have them Friday
3:22
I thought we'd have them today I didn't
3:23
find out until after warmup jaywan and
3:27
Andy mutton came into my office uh came
3:30
into the locker room and and told me so
3:32
literally it was a last minute deal I
3:34
mean obviously not having a guy like
3:37
like Nick Singleton um is significant
3:40
but it was a tremendous opportunity for
3:42
KRON to get a few more touches and it
3:44
was also a great opportunity to get
3:46
Quinton in there so um you know really
3:51
really good opportunity for those two
3:52
guys and I think overall we handle it
3:55
well hey coach Frankin jar how's it
3:57
going good um Tyler Warren another week
4:00
another touchdown for him uh what makes
4:03
him so dependable for you guys
4:05
especially in the Red Zone I think
4:07
that's the word he's he's Dependable I
4:09
mean the guy does his job and does it on
4:12
a consistent basis whether it is
4:14
blocking whether it's running with the
4:16
ball as a ball carrier whether it's as a
4:19
receiver and again I think you guys have
4:21
heard me talk about this a lot but when
4:24
they can't put Tyler Warren into a
4:26
category that's what makes tight ends
4:28
most valuable um you know if he's just a
4:32
receiver they can they can treat him
4:33
like a receiver and treat it as 10
4:35
Personnel uh if he's just kind of a big
4:38
run blocking slug then that's not a
4:41
threat either but when he can do either
4:43
or um makes it very very difficult to to
4:47
defend and then to your point he's
4:49
Dependable you know you throw the ball
4:51
in his Direction he's going to catch it
4:53
he's going to break tackles he's going
4:54
to make positive yards so um you know
4:58
again I think he's the best tight in
4:59
college football and I think his his
5:01
play warrants that Tyler and then Andrew
5:05
hi James hey Tyler um today we you told
5:09
us a few days ago that you looking High
5:10
School film for for Justin Martin
5:12
because he didn't have any much on on
5:13
film at the college level he had some
5:15
success early in the game what did you
5:17
pick up from him defensively over the
5:18
course of that first half and how do you
5:20
think your defense was able to adjust
5:21
with Tom Allen yeah I was impressed with
5:23
him you know he's a I'm not sure how
5:26
tall he is but looking at him in in
5:27
pregame he's a big guy
5:30
um he seemed very poised um the moment
5:34
didn't seem too big for him first time
5:36
starting
5:37
quarterback um and talking to their head
5:40
coach before the game uh you know on the
5:43
Catapult he's run 21 miles an hour so
5:45
you're talking about a big guy who can
5:47
run uh who was poised so I was impressed
5:50
with that guy I really was um and I
5:54
thought you know again when you're
5:56
preparing all week you don't have any
5:58
film of a guy that that can make it a
6:00
little bit interesting but overall our
6:02
starting defense held a big 10 opponent
6:04
to three points you know they scored a
6:06
point there late with a lot of backups
6:09
in um they scored a touchdown there late
6:11
with a lot of backups in uh in today's
6:13
day and age you know keeping people to a
6:16
field goal was difficult to do and I
6:18
thought our defense you know did a nice
6:20
job there's some things obviously we got
6:21
to get cleaned up the big explosive play
6:24
uh you know we did not run with tail
6:26
back in man coverage the guy that had
6:28
him in man coverage
6:30
um and that obviously is going to hurt
6:31
you every single time if they find him
6:33
so that was a huge play in the game but
6:35
besides that I thought overall we played
6:37
well Andre coach you mentioned 8 couple
6:41
yards in third quarters this year what
6:43
what's been the difference in the third
6:44
quarter and why have you been so
6:45
successful in adjusting I I think really
6:48
in my time we've been pretty good in the
6:50
second half in general I think to me I'm
6:53
I'm more I'm more interested in in
6:56
making sure that we're starting faster
6:58
um you know I think that first quarter
7:00
you look at the time of possession not
7:02
what you want you look at third down on
7:04
offense and on defense not what you want
7:07
again back to the point I have had with
7:08
you guys earlier about getting enough
7:10
touches and getting enough plays on
7:12
offense and getting off the field on
7:14
defense so we got we got to start faster
7:16
but defensively I think you know you get
7:18
a good feel for who they are you get
7:20
them settled down you make some
7:21
adjustments um and I think that's for
7:25
the biggest reason why we've been able
7:27
to play really good third quarter
7:29
football te and technology has helped
7:30
with that as well uh but but overall
7:33
getting our guys lined up getting their
7:35
cleats in the ground getting them ready
7:37
to play I think we've done a nice job of
7:38
that uh with both both you know offens
7:41
and defensive staff here the left James
7:45
it seemed that the receivers were being
7:47
targeted more frequently today how much
7:50
of that has had to do with Nick uh not
7:52
being available more frequently said
7:55
yeah um I don't know I I I I didn't feel
7:58
that way or or noticed that um I felt
8:02
like we called it the way you know we
8:04
have been calling it but you may be
8:06
right I'd have to go back and check that
8:09
um I I don't I don't know it wasn't it
8:12
wasn't like we made a change literally
8:15
again we didn't find out until until
8:18
after warm up that we didn't have Nick
8:20
so it's not not enough time to kind of
8:22
change your game plan and with KRON and
8:25
Quinton we don't really feel like we
8:26
have to go two more we'll go pickle
8:29
coach uh with Ryan Barker what be what
8:32
wouldn't your decis decision rather to
8:33
make him your starting Place kicker
8:35
today with Zion Tracy what did he do to
8:37
earn that spot at pun return with Kate
8:39
now yeah so uh with Barker like I
8:43
mentioned to you guys I think last week
8:44
it it came down to a percentage Point um
8:47
all during training camp between those
8:50
two guys so we felt like this week um
8:53
you know we would look at all those guys
8:55
as well but it wouldn't just be this
8:56
week it' be this week plus uh the
8:59
totality of everything that's happened
9:01
the entire year so um based on it being
9:04
a tight competition already and then how
9:06
the games have gone uh from a production
9:09
execution standpoint in that phase felt
9:12
like you know it made sense to to give
9:14
Barker his opportunity because again it
9:15
was within a percentage Point what was
9:18
the other
9:19
part yeah so Tracy been part of that
9:22
competition kind of all year
9:24
long um we did not have Kaden available
9:28
and and he was next man up um you know
9:32
Jake Spencer still factors in so we used
9:35
him in the safe situations where you're
9:36
probably not going to get a return
9:38
anyway just a guy who's caught some
9:40
balls already in college games but Zion
9:43
we think we think he'll learn from this
9:45
today and have an opportunity to not
9:46
only catch the ball go for but have a
9:48
chance to be a playmaker so uh excited
9:50
about
9:53
that hey Jame you're now tuning in a
9:55
helicopter it was great um I was going
9:58
to call you in the
10:02
backyard um the uh two-minute drill how
10:05
much do you think you that gave you guys
10:07
a boost with Drew connecting to get
10:10
TouchDown uh right in front of the half
10:13
yeah I think we've done a pretty good
10:14
job of that all year long points right
10:17
before the half you talk about the
10:19
middle eight and things like that that
10:21
that's been I think really good for us
10:22
all all year long I think the other
10:25
thing that that I'm very proud of in
10:27
terms of the players and off defensive
10:30
coaches we want to have all of our
10:31
timeouts available at the end of the
10:34
first half and at the end of the game uh
10:37
and there's value in that there's power
10:39
in that so um I think the combination of
10:43
2 minutes and 40 seconds or whatever it
10:45
is in the game with all three timeouts
10:47
that's a ton of time it allowed us to
10:50
start out not in a traditional twom
10:52
minute but have some urgency to us and
10:55
then after the TW minute warning we were
10:58
planning on going two minute right there
11:00
with it being a third down we just use
11:02
that as a timeout with a two-minute
11:04
warning uh get what we wanted called and
11:08
and then go from there and then if we
11:09
didn't pick it up it also allowed us to
11:12
burn some time off the clock uh and get
11:14
the two-minute warning out of the uh
11:16
equation for them if they were getting B
11:19
back yes thank thanks guys have a good
11:21
week
