I got a comment asking, "Why does my dog steal my spot the second I stand up? Is he claiming territory? Is he trying to be the boss?" You might think he is being a bully, but no. According to behavioral psychology, the reason is actually much more childish than you think. You need to see the world through his nose. To him, that empty seat isn't empty at all. It is a glowing pool of your body heat and pherommones. It is the loudest spot in the quiet room. By jumping in there, he isn't trying to replace you. He is trying to scent soak. He is wrapping himself in your residual energy. It is the closest thing to a hug he can get the moment you walk away. So, just accept your fate. Yeah, that seat is gone. But your heart, it is full, isn't it?
