Flight: Alaska Airlines Flight 1282, Boeing 737 Max-9
Route: Portland, Oregon (PDX) to Ontario, California (ONT)
Incident: Shortly after takeoff at 5:07 pm PST, the cabin experienced a rapid depressurization due to a hole in the fuselage near a passenger window.
Passengers & Crew: 171 passengers and 6 crew members onboard.
Action: Pilots declared an emergency and made a safe emergency landing back in Portland at 5:27 pm PST.
Injuries: Several passengers sustained minor injuries and required medical attention, but none were critical.
Cause: The cause of the fuselage breach is still under investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration.
Outcome: Alaska Airlines temporarily grounded its entire Boeing 737-9 Max fleet and is inspecting all plug doors on its aircraft. The FAA also ordered other airlines to ground certain Boeing 737 Max 9s as a precaution.
