It's the new Samsung Galaxy S24+. Let's run some demos. ♪♪
0:12
Dave Taylor here, and I'm checking out this. This is the Samsung Galaxy S24+
0:19
So, what does the plus mean? It means it's right in the middle of the three different options you have for the S24 lineup
0:26
Now, the smallest of them, the S24, features a 6.2-inch FHD Plus display
0:33
This one is the S24+, and that bumps up to a 6.7-inch QHD Plus display
0:41
And then the Ultra is essentially the same size screen, but what the Ultra adds is their S Pen and a place to store it
0:49
So, for sure, if you want to be able to doodle on your screen or just take notes with a pen, the S Pen, obviously
0:56
then the Ultra is going to be your choice. But if you like a little bit bigger screen real estate, the S24+, is a fine, fine choice
1:05
Now, dimensions-wise, it's 6.2 inches by 3 inches by 3 tenths of an inch thick
1:10
It is very nice. It is light. It's an extraordinary piece of engineering
1:15
I mean, Samsung really nailed this one. Now, if you're curious what's in the box, I did do an unboxing
1:22
You can check that out. That's going to be worth your while. But let me just run down some specs real quick, and then we're going to get into what you really want to see on that demos
1:32
And I have tons of demos. So, it has either 256 or, let me get out of the weather there, so either 256 or 512 gigabytes of ROM and 12 gigabytes of RAM
1:46
It is powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. It is a zippy phone, and there are lots of cameras
1:54
On the back, there are three cameras. They are a 50 megapixel wide f1.8, a 12 megapixel ultra wide f2.2, and a 10 megapixel telephoto 3x zoom f2.4
2:10
There's also what they call their 30x space zoom, which is sort of a combination of a physical zoom and a lot of digital zoom
2:18
Interesting. On the front, there's a little tiny cutout. Maybe if I go to weather, you can see that a little better
2:24
It's a little hole punch, and it has a 12 megapixel f2.2 camera
2:29
So, lots of cameras here. The cameras are beautiful. I'm going to show you demos in just a moment
2:35
And 4900 milliamp hour battery, much more than just a day of use
2:40
I found it to be very nice battery life-wise. And charging, you have USB-C on the bottom
2:47
You can also use Qi charging. It does 45 watt fast charging
2:51
And let's see, in terms of a quick tour of the edges, on the right-hand side is the pretty typical volume up, down, and power button
3:02
And then on the bottom, you have that USB-C and a cutout for a speaker
3:07
And that SIM carrier tray. On the left, literally there's nothing. It's just a nice, clean piece of metal
3:15
And on the top, there are two little tiny holes, and I'm guessing that's also for speakers
3:20
On the back, you have the three cameras. And you also have the little spot there for the flash
3:26
And it's really pretty amazing how much light they can get out of that tiny little hole
3:31
It's magic, right? Seven different color options if you go through Samsung, if you go through AT&T
3:38
And I should say, AT&T has loaned me this phone for the purposes of this review
3:43
Thank you, AT&T. Very kind of you. AT&T has four colors. Samsung has seven colors
3:49
So now, enough with all that. Let's jump into all of the demos I have
3:54
I've got a lot of video and photo demos. I have a couple of AI demos
3:58
Lots to look at. And then I'll jump back, and I'll talk to you a little bit about the price
4:03
So, let's jump into those demos. The first photo I have here is a wide-angle shot
4:09
Then a 1x zoom. Then a 3x zoom. And then here's a selfie with portrait mode
4:19
And you can see it's sort of softened the background a little bit. It's kind of lost the edge of my hair on the left
4:25
But it's a nice-looking photo. Here's a close-up. This is up front and personal with the bark of a tree
4:32
And then everyone's curious about night mode. So I took four different shots
4:36
This first one was handheld, which is very impressive. And then these next shots are actually using a tripod
4:46
And the fourth one actually shows a tiny bit of streak on the stars
4:50
which I thought was intriguing. But very impressive results. In terms of videos, here's a 1x zoom
5:04
And a 3x zoom. And a 6x zoom
5:17
While we're at it, here's slow motion. Time lapse
5:27
A selfie video. This is a demo of me using the selfie video mode
5:32
And I'm in 30 frames a second. Nonetheless, you can see it's done a nice job of capturing this rather gloomy winter day
5:40
There's no snow on the ground, but there's definitely snow in the forecast, which is why I got all these layers on
5:45
It's cold. Anyway, you can see the video. You can hear my audio
5:50
I'm just talking to the phone. And I think it's done a pretty good job
5:55
This is dual record mode on the Galaxy S24+. And I really like it
6:00
It's a really interesting feature where you can record both cameras simultaneously
6:05
Obviously, pretty hard to do if you're holding the camera. But when I have it on a tripod, as I do right now
6:11
this gives me the opportunity to show you what I'm seeing, including that angular alert sign
6:17
and for you to actually see me in the inset talking. Now, worth noting is this is just the built-in microphone on the phone
6:25
so I don't have any other gear. Pretty good job. Finally, two AI demos
6:30
The first one is circle to search. And the second one is AI image removal
7:42
To be honest, the AI image removal didn't really work very well
7:46
It's kind of an interesting effect with this sort of space car blurring on as it goes past
7:51
but not what you hope. So my expectation is that this is a work in progress
7:57
and of all of the different features, that's the one that's going to be easiest for Samsung to upgrade and upgrade and update
8:04
and keep refining. So don't let that hold you back. I will say that I experimented with other photos
8:11
and they had better results. This one, I'm not sure why, but that was just a really tough job for it
8:17
so it didn't really succeed. But I'm guessing that there's going to be an update
8:22
and in 30 days it'll be better, and in 60 days it'll just nail it
8:26
So all of this stuff's refining so fast. Overall, I'm not expecting much
8:33
Overall, though, this is a remarkable phone. I really like this. I'm a fan of the Galaxy line
8:40
and I think that Samsung just has a really nice build quality
8:45
It has a nice feel in your hand. It is incredibly snappy
8:49
It does have Samsung's One UI on top of Android, so it's a little hard sometimes to know which one is delivering a feature
9:00
but it doesn't really matter because you just use the phone, and it works really well
9:06
So we do need to talk about the price, but before we get to the price
9:11
I'm going to invite you to subscribe to my channel. As you can see, I put a lot of effort into my reviews
9:16
Don't forget to click on that bell icon so you get notifications
9:20
and I always appreciate a thumbs-up. Great. Now, this is the Samsung Galaxy S24+
9:29
and you can pick one up for $999.99 at AT&T.com, or you can use their payment plan
9:37
which drops it down to $27.78 a month times 36 months, also at AT&T.com
9:44
So I definitely appreciate AT&T sending me this phone to play with
9:48
It's pretty darn nice, actually. And I think this is really one of the very best Android phones on the market
9:56
and I'm excited to see Samsung continue to tune its AI feature set
10:01
so that it actually works better and better because it's just a fun new generation of features for all these mobile devices
10:08
With that, that's all I got. I'll hope to catch you in my next video. ♪♪♪ ♪♪♪ ♪♪
