A wireless RF TV headset? Let's check this out
0:04
Dave Taylor here, and I'm checking out this setup
0:15
This, both the headphones and the charging base, are the Ribosyn Wireless RF Hi-Fi TV headset
0:24
And it's a pretty sweet setup. The basic idea is that these are obviously headphones
0:28
so I'll just put them here and we'll deal with them in a second. And then this base unit is a transmitter, and it does all sorts of things
0:35
Most notably, when you leave your headphones on here, it charges them, so they're always ready to go
0:41
And when fully charged, they give you 18 hours on a charge
0:45
Now, even if you're watching a, I don't know, Twilight Zone marathon
0:49
you're probably not going to listen for 18 hours without taking a bit of a break
0:53
and maybe putting them back on to get a little more power. 18 hours is a long time, but this is a really nice setup because it's everything that you need
1:02
all very self-contained. On the front, you have on-off buttons, so if you really want to, you can power the whole thing down
1:09
You have the ability to attenuate the signal. So if you plug this into a source like a DVD player that puts out a lot of volume
1:18
you can actually drop the volume down just a little bit, 8 decibels
1:22
But that's enough that it goes from really loud to being a nice volume
1:26
And then you have a volume adjustment on the headphones themselves, so you can fine-tune exactly what you want it to sound like
1:33
And then on the top, you have a switch that lets you switch between AUX input and optical input
1:40
Now, all of these cables come with it. So you have the optical cable, which is a great way to get the best fidelity audio from your television
1:50
Or you have an RCA 3.5mm adapter, if, like me, your TV actually has RCA output
1:58
In fact, here's a shot of the back of one of my Vizio TVs that this is hooked up to
2:03
or this is usually hooked up to, and you can see those audio outs
2:07
It's RCA or optical. There's no 3.5mm out. I don't know why TVs don't do that, but for some reason they don't
2:15
It seems like it'd be really nice to have that maybe even on the front, so you can just plug in a pair of headphones and rock and roll
2:21
Well, that's not how it works. So the good news is I use the RCA to 3.5mm adapter
2:28
and then this is a pretty standard AUX cable, so it's 3.5mm on both ends
2:34
So this is in the TV, and then this plugs into the back of this unit
2:40
In fact, let me show you a close-up of the back. You can see there's the optical plug on the top
2:45
there's the AUX jack in the middle, and now I'm plugged in
2:49
and then there's the power, the DC power coming in, and this does need to be plugged in all the time
2:56
Not a huge problem. You probably already have power and all sorts of things plugged in right by your television anyway
3:03
So this is next to your TV. This is plugged into your TV
3:08
and then this gives you that audio whenever you want to listen to a show
3:13
or whatever else you want to put on your video. Now, this has a power on-off on the right
3:19
and that really is just for turning the power on, because after 10 minutes of no music, it'll automatically turn off
3:26
which is a great way to have it preserve that 18 hours of battery life to be even longer
3:32
So you can probably listen for 20 or 30 or 40 hours a couple of days
3:37
because you don't realize that when you just put them down, they automatically will turn off after a few minutes
3:42
Now, on the left, it's a little more interesting, because you have line-in
3:47
so you can use these as wired headphones if you want, and they work entirely functionally. It's perfectly fine
3:54
And then you have three buttons, volume down, volume up, and in the middle is EQ, and that EQ button's pretty interesting
4:01
because it gives you three different sound modes. It gives you the original or normal mode, it gives you a 3D sound mode
4:09
and it also gives you bass boost. So you can just push the EQ button while you're listening and watching a show
4:16
and if it's something where suddenly the symphony is playing, or it's a bunch of music videos, you can really go for that 3D sound or something
4:24
and it works great with a lot of movies too. Or you can just keep it in original, and I'll come back to the sound quality in a minute
4:31
but I'll just tell you, these are pretty sweet. And it's a 2.4 GHz RF system, and what does that mean
4:39
It means, unlike Bluetooth, this has much more range. In fact, you can go 160 feet away from this bass unit
4:47
which means, more importantly, that it works through walls, and I've found this to be really great
4:53
So, I have these on, and even if I have to walk away from my television
4:57
I can walk and check the mail, or go into the basement
5:01
and, I don't know, do whatever it is I do in the basement
5:05
and it still works perfectly, flawlessly, never have a dropout on any audio at all
5:11
And of course, it's perfectly in sync with the TV signal, so you don't have any latency issues where you're hearing the sound
5:18
a second or two after it's coming off of the TV, because that can be very disconcerting too
5:23
This totally doesn't have that problem. So, I will say it doesn't have a microphone
5:28
so you can hook this all up to your computer. So, if you have a student, for example, that's doing online learning
5:36
you could use this for their particular stuff, hooking it up to their computer as their 3.5mm out
5:43
just goes right into the 3.5mm in this, but the problem with that is there's no mic
5:49
It's not intended to be a microphone, it's not intended to be a headset in that context
5:54
this is really just a listen-only device, and it works really well for that
5:59
So, not much else to talk about other than the sound, and, oh, I should point out that the headphones are adjustable
6:06
They are, if I may be totally candid, they're a little cheap feeling
6:10
The whole thing actually looks like it should be heavier than it is
6:14
I mean, it's entirely functional, but I guess I felt like it should be a little bit more substantial with the materials they used
6:22
Eh, probably not a big deal, and I would imagine after a couple of days you're not even aware of it
6:27
So, what we need to talk about is we need to talk about sound quality
6:31
and I was pretty darn surprised. I read a bunch of other people's customer reviews and stuff of this particular unit
6:38
and people were complaining it didn't sound very good, this wasn't a good solution for music or anything
6:42
and it's just like, au contraire. Assuming you have everything hooked up properly
6:46
this actually sounds really good in all three sound modes, and if you go into that bass boost mode, it's quite enjoyable listening
6:55
So, if you're watching a movie on your TV, and it has a really great soundtrack as so many of them do now
7:02
all of that music's going to sound fantastic on this device. I'm really pretty darn impressed
7:08
Would I buy these just as music headphones? No, there's better solutions out there
7:13
but in terms of something that's perfectly designed to plug into a television
7:17
and give you maximum benefit with minimum hassle, this is a solid solution
7:22
And I'll also note that if you have an older person living in the house or someone with some hearing challenges
7:27
they could use this to crank the volume to the point where they're comfortable
7:31
and they can hear it, and then you can have your TV at a lower volume for everyone else in the room
7:37
and that works entirely perfectly. And on the Vizio, at least, when you have audio out
7:42
you still have audio coming out of the TV speakers, and you can adjust them independently
7:47
which is actually kind of the perfect way to have it designed. So, lots to like about this
7:53
Leading us to the price. But before we get to the price, I'm going to ask
7:57
if you don't mind, can you go ahead and click or tap on that subscribe button
8:01
and subscribe to my channel? I really appreciate when you do that
8:05
I really try to put out a lot of really good, candid, and honest review videos
8:10
so I'd like to think I'm pretty darn trustworthy when it comes to gear
8:14
so why not subscribe, right? Awesome. Great. Now, these are the Riboson Wireless RF Hi-Fi TV Headset
8:23
or is the Riboson Wireless RF TV Hi-Fi Headset, and it is $82.79 at Amazon.com
8:33
If you're in a situation where you want to be able to listen to TV at whatever the heck volume you want without bothering anyone else
8:40
this is a solid solution, definitely worth checking out. And if you watch TV really late at night and don't want to bother anyone
8:46
just because of that, then this also works really well. And that 18-hour battery life is pretty wicked, too
8:52
So, definitely worth checking out. I'm going to go back to my own Netflix show
8:57
which means I'll catch you in my next video. ♪♪
