Top-notch ANC earbuds at a budget price

Let's check these out. Dave Taylor here, and I'm checking out this

Super interesting case. This looks like an old-style watch is actually the PAMU Quiet ANC Earbuds

And POMU you might know as the Never Fall Out Earbud Company, right

And they keep iterating with more and more. generations of design and better and better chipsets to make better earbuds

So let me pull these out and yes, they are designed so that you have the bottom facing you

and then left is on the left side and right is on the right side

They're connected. They're paired. They're ready to play. Here's what one earbud looks like

So it is not as sleek or slim as the Apple AirPods Pro, but that's the obvious comparison

because these are really nice ANC earbuds, but they're way less expensive than the Apple units

So, let's talk about them. First off, 10mm drivers with titanium compound membranes

They are powered by the top-of-the-line chipsets right now. So it's the Qualcomm QCC-524 gives you APTX, which gives you a big expansive sound

You want that. It also supports AAC and SBC, so APTX is Android and all laptops and really the majority of devices

And then AAC is iOS devices like an iPhone or an iPad

You can just use regular Bluetooth, but you want to have these better codex as they're called because it will give you a bigger, richer sound

It just sends more information so you get better reproduction. That's good

Now, there's also ANC, active noise canceling, and that's powered by the AMS, AMS 3460, which is their top of the line chip

So between the Qualcomm and the AMS, you've got some pretty smart circuitry going on here

Now, they say it's a 40 decibel sound reduction, which is actually more than the Apple AirPods Pro, but in practice, I found that they were roughly the same, maybe not quite as good as my AirPods Pro

But still, you could definitely tell when they were on, the ANC was on, versus when it was in transparency mode and it was off, right

Now, one of the interface designs that they had made a mistake on is that turning on and off ANC is clumsy because you have to push and hold on one ear, but there's no actual feedback

You just hear the background noise go down a little bit or go back up a little bit

I would really, really like to see maybe even just in a firmware update, something that says ANC on, transparency mode on, ANC off, or something like that, where you know and you get that confirmation that, yes, it's in the mode you think it is

Now, arguably, if you have ANC and you can't tell if it's on, it's not very good

But it's not, I mean, that's not what's going on with these. I just like to have feedback

So my standard ANC test is to have these while I'm standing right next to a floor fan, right

So it's hot, floor fans keep the air moving. They also happen to give you a nice loud low frequency buzz And that is exactly what ANC is designed for And with the Apple AirPods Pro I put them in they turn on ANC

and literally I have to double check that the fans still working. It just vanishes

These aren't quite that good, but they really lower the sound down to a level where

especially once you have music playing, you'll barely even notice that the fans on

So, really good A and C. Now, Bluetooth 5.0, and the design is interesting, so they only get three and a half hours on a play

but then you can put them in this really fun case, and the case will give you three more charges

So that's another 10 and a half hours. So that's about 14 hours total, and if that's not enough for you to be able to listen

then you might need to reconsider how often and how long you're wearing your earbuds

Again, it's designed like an old school pocket watch. So you push the button and it opens the flap and then, you know, you can put your earbuds in it

And it's super easy to get them in. Let's make sure I put them on the right side

And once they're in, obviously they're charging. This also charges. There's a plug on the side

Here it is. For USBC. And we'll look in the box in the sack

Of course, comes with the USBC cable. but if you happen to have a wireless charging device like this Otterbox wireless charging pad

it also charges wirelessly. Super fun. And not only that, but power is indicated with the blue light and the more around the top of it

the blue light is being displayed, then the more charged it is

So leave it plugged in, leave it on your Chi wireless charging pad

and when it's fully charged, it'll be a full blue circle. Really fun

that. Let's see. For voice, if I use this for a phone call, for example, then they are using, again, more state-of-the-art technology. They're using a Knowles mic system. They actually have three microphones and they're using CVC8. So when you're talking to someone, it should sound really, really good. So what was that actually like? Well, it wasn't quite fantastic. What I found was that when I was talking to you

someone they sounded fantastic they really sounded good but their sound from me and I

record this so I could hear it was a little bit electronic it was a little bit

broken up so they might have dialed up that CVC a little too high on the voice

certainly entirely functional I think you could be on phone calls and once someone

sort of gets used to you sounding a little metallic then you're fine but it was a

a little bit less than I was expecting. So that's worth knowing. IPX4. So if you're sweaty or they

fall into a puddle because you're out running in the rain, not a problem. And let's quickly jump

into the box. I just want to show you everything and then we'll talk about the sound. So super nice

box design. They did a really great job with this and it opens like a book. And then there's a little

thing that has manuals in it. And then underneath that, in the base package, it comes. It

comes with this little, I don't know, it's probably some sort of a plastic faux leather, little carrying case

Honestly since this is so cool oops since this is so cool how much sure why you need the carrying case It also a faux leather exterior and everything Really really I love this thing so much This yeah whatever I don think it that important

On terms of what else it comes with, it comes with a little lanyard, and that's probably also something you're not going to use

USBC charging, that is something you will use. It is probably pretty important to have that

But what I really wanted to show you is it also comes with two other sizes of ear tips

So between the ones that are on the unit and these, you get small, medium, and large

And it's always important to make sure you have the right size ear tips to get the best possible results for your music

But when you have A and C, it's also really important to get the right size ear tips so the ANC can work really well

And PAMU has done a great job of doing, again, something that Apple innovated

which is to have a small air c so that the pressure is equalized in your ear and in the outside space

So that means that you don't get this sort of weird, uncomfortable feeling where it's like they're suction and they're sucked into your head, right

Not nice. So these do that, and that's really great. In addition, the standard package is just this, which is just this, and the earbuds, but they're running on Indiegogo and on Indiegogo for a tiny incremental $10

You actually can get a full setup that includes a much nicer, again, sort of faux leather lanyard that you can attach to the top of the case if you want to really have it where, honestly, they just have like a little gold chain

You can put it on the pocket of your vest, right? But, you know, this can be a fun option

And then this also comes with, again, on that additional option, it comes with a hard carrying case

I'm not sure why you need any of that. This is just such a great design

It's such a great hand feel. It's just a lovely little piece of hardware. Which brings us to the question of, all right, dude, enough chat

What about the sound? Well, let me put him in. and I'll tell you about the sound

So, let's see. They are on, they're connected. Boom, they're ready to go

I can go onto my phone. And let's see, I will randomly pick some music

Let's actually, I'll let iTunes shuffle. And so this is going to be AAC, not IPTX

Oh, and there we go. So Dave Brubeck Quartet, Take Five. Is there any more classic piece of jazz than that

So, how do they sound? They sound really good. I'm really actually pretty darn impressed with these

In fact, I better turn these off or I'm going to just stop talking and just listen

So they have a really nice sound stage and a full and rich sound

There's bass that you can enjoy. You might fiddle with the EQ on your source device to get it to match your hearing preferences

But really, there's a lot to like about how. these sounds. The highs are not too bright and the mid-range is warm and depending on what kind of music you're listening to, I think you're really going to like it

They still seem to be a little bit tuned for voice and that frequency level, so vocals are going to, in particular, really pop

But even just listening to like classical orchestra or some EMD or some old dance music or something there lots to like in the way these sound

You know, I would say that their sound reproduction is really good

Their ANC is good. Their latency for watching movies or TV is zero

So that works great if you want to Netflix and have these in your ears

And in terms of voice for making phone calls, that might be their weakest link

because I was, as I said, a little disappointed with how electronic I sounded when I was talking to someone on the phone

But that might not be anything that would bother you or your friends or colleagues

So that might be something you'd want to experiment with, or it might just be the way I hear

You never know, right? So, all in all, definite winners, definitely worth checking out

And the price is really remarkable, especially on their Indiegogo campaign, because these I think favorably compare to the Apple AirPods Pro

and those are darn expensive. These are not darn expensive. So let me talk about the price and the complexity of how it works on Indiegogo

retail price is $159. So you're saving about, what, 35%. So getting this for $89, or if you want to get

these other additional accessories, $99 is definitely a good deal. This is definitely worth checking out

And I just want to give them props because there's so much sameness

There's so much boring design in this space. And for them to have done this little watch is actually really fun

I mean, as soon as I pulled it out of the box, I was smiling. It's just like, what a fun, cool idea
