Bluetooth headphones from Orange? Let's check these out
0:03
Dave Taylor here, and I'm checking out these. These are the Orange Crest Edition wireless headphones
0:16
Now, Orange has been around since the late 60s, and they're really well-known in the musician space
0:22
because they make really great amps. So, in fact, when these arrived, my son turned around and said
0:28
Orange? Like the guitar amp company? So, they have a big reputation, and they know a lot about sound
0:35
and a lot about amplification, and that's reflected in these headphones. They have really, really nice sound
0:41
But let's start with the mechanical. So, folding metal hinges, so it has a really nice feel to it
0:47
Includes this carrying case. It's a hard case. Not a huge fan of these, but at least this one's relatively small
0:54
so it actually works fine. The headphones have the ability for you to use them wired
1:00
It is just a standard 3.5mm wire, and this is a nice braided cloth-covered wire, so it has a nice feel
1:08
Also has a microphone on it for making calls and such, though really that's not its primary purpose
1:14
So, I find that that worked, but was not fantastic. And let's see, so one of the cool things is it has this whole on-ear touch control
1:24
So, as you can see in the close-up, pause, play, next, previous
1:29
volume up, volume down, all of those sort of features, and that ends up being on, let me get this right, on your right ear
1:36
So, you just sort of learn to orient your hand, and then you can swipe up or swipe down, or forward or backward
1:43
or tap in the middle, and that will get your music to pause
1:47
and then you can take them off, and you can actually talk to people. So, the other thing is that Orange has done a lot to make these visually interesting
1:56
Now, the company, again, they come from the swinging 60s in England, man
2:01
so, you know, they have this, they actually have this great classic psychedelic logo
2:06
I love the logo, really much more than the modern one, but, you know, the modern one is just solid orange
2:12
Be that as it may, when you look closely at this, you'll see there's like these delicate engravings on each ear
2:19
that are, they look like sort of classic Grecian gods and goddesses or something
2:24
So, there's really a nice attention to detail in the appearance of this
2:28
If you plug this in, you get a 16-ohm connection, so that's going to work fine with just about everything you could possibly plug it into
2:35
Running Bluetooth 4.1, not 5.0, not such a big deal, because 5.0, the big improvement is when you have wireless earbuds
2:44
so it actually helps them stay in sync, but when you only have a single unit, it actually works just fine
2:50
I found these had extremely low latency and huge range. When I was using this with Bluetooth, I was honestly probably about 75 feet away
3:00
and it was still working just fine with no dropouts. Now, I don't know that they rate it to be that far away
3:06
but suffice to say, if you're listening off your phone or off your computer or whatever
3:11
and you actually have to step into the next room or go outside or check the mail
3:15
there is no reason you have to take the headphones off. You're going to have great music all the way around
3:20
Now, in terms of the drivers, they have 40-millimeter drivers that they call the Voice of the World drivers
3:26
so this is a specific proprietary driver that they're using, and they sound really clean
3:32
20 to 20,000 hertz frequency response, 126 decibels of sensitivity, 27 hours of battery life on a charge
3:41
Yes, obviously they're rechargeable, and the charge, there is a plug over here
3:48
One of the things I will take points off for here is micro USB
3:52
Now, it includes the micro USB charging cable, but I just don't like micro USB
3:57
and I'm really excited for companies to stop using it. So, hopefully, the next edition will feature USB-C
4:05
and then you don't have to try to figure out which orientation it is. But, be that as it may, 27 hours
4:10
Obviously, if you listen at maximum volume, A, bad for your ears
4:15
and B, you're going to get less battery life than if you listened at something like middling, you know, middle volume
4:21
I found that like two-thirds volume on my Apple iPhone was perfect
4:25
It was really a big, rich, full sound, but it wasn't so loud that when I took them off, I was like
4:32
what? I can't hear you. They also work with AAC, so they are great for iPhones and other iOS devices
4:40
because that's what Apple wants you to use. Now, obviously, it will work with non-AAC devices like Android or your laptop
4:48
but AAC is a nice addition for these. And so, there's really not much else to talk about other than the sound
4:55
Like I said, really nice packaging, you know, comes with all the cables you need
5:00
You can use it wired if you prefer not doing the Bluetooth route, which is fine. It's still going to sound terrific
5:06
But that sound, it's a really nice sound, especially for the price point
5:11
These have a really full, rich, and detailed and precise sound signature
5:16
It's a bit bass forward, so I found that I had to go and adjust the EQ on my phone
5:22
to get a little bit less bass and a little bit more treble
5:26
But I was listening to Antonio Carlos Jobim's songbook, and oh man, it was just take you away and have
5:33
I could smell the beach and I could hear the ambient Brazilian town sounds and everything
5:40
It was just beautiful. It's a really nice, full soundstage, and there's just such a warm clarity to it all
5:48
that it'll just take all your music and make it sound better
5:52
and you will enjoy the heck out of these. So, you know, lots, lots, lots to like about these
5:58
I'm really, really impressed by the sound signature. Really like the build quality
6:03
They feel like they're going to last for 20 years, and the case, well, you know, if you like the hard cases
6:10
it comes with a hard case. So, not a big fan of the micro USB
6:15
and I will say that they are isolating, not active noise canceling
6:20
So when I use these in loud environments, I did have to crank the volume pretty high to shut out everything else
6:27
Probably not great for my hearing, but if you're in a relatively quiet space like your home office or something
6:33
then these are going to be fantastic because you can have them really low
6:37
and still hear all the details and all the clarity out of the music
6:42
So, really, well done, Orange. Well done with the Crest edition. So, let's talk about the price
6:49
but before we get to the price, I'm going to ask if you can give me some feedback. So, you know, always really appreciate subscriptions, likes, comments
6:57
Go ahead and let me know what you think of this review. Really appreciate that. Cool
7:01
Now, these are the Orange Crest edition wireless headphones, and they are $124.88 at orangeamps.com
7:10
and that is a pretty solid price for something that no one else you know will have
7:15
These are not going to be the run-of-the-mill Sonys or Bose or Beats
7:19
that everyone else has in the world. These are unique, have a great sound signature
7:24
really fun design. I really like the orange and black and the little etchings and stuff
7:29
So, definitely worth checking out, and this is a solid price point
7:33
These could be really great for the musician in your life, too. So, with that, I am going to go back to listening to my music
7:40
so that means, hang on, I'll catch you in my next video
7:56
Thanks for watching
