Dave Taylor here, and you know, I like iced coffee a lot. A lot of people do. But the problem is

getting that hot coffee and icing it. Now, if you plan ahead, you can actually have a picture of

coffee in your fridge or something and then have it cool off overnight. And then that next

morning you're ready to grab a mug or grab a cup and go. But a lot of us don't plan ahead that well

Enter this. This is the hyperchiller. Or maybe I should show you this. This is the hyperchiller

And it's pretty slick. It's basically alternating compartments of water and space air for liquid and more

water. You put it in the freezer for 12 hours or so and it gets mighty cold because you then have ice on the

outside and a core of ice on the inside and a cup in the middle. So I'll disassemble and show you how it works

But first, let's actually just make a cup of coffee. So I'm going to use some Starbucks via

And I just happen to have some boiling water in here. But I'm going to make this fun. I have this

I grill temperature probe. So I'm going to show you, let's get this thing recording. I'm going to show you the temperature as we go

through all of this. So it will show you right now it's 68 degrees in here, which is a nice

temperature. So I'm going to put this in here and then as I pour the boiling water in, we

should see a fairly dramatic change in temperature. And I'm not going to put a whole lot in

there. There we go. That looks about right. I'll put this back here so we have some space

And you can see the temperature is jumping up pretty fast as you would expect with

boiling water. So 150, 160, let's see, 169 degrees. So it doesn't get to 212 degrees here in Colorado

because of the altitude I live at, but it will get pretty darn close. So now we have really hot

coffee. So how do I make ice coffee out of that? Well, the amateur solution is to pour it

over ice. You can do that, but all you do is dilute the heck out of your coffee. Not a really

satisfying experience So instead you use this Now let me actually let see let put the probe It gone up to 180 already I going to put the probe in down here And now we should see the temperature drop again because it in a very cold compartment And I going to pour our very hot coffee into the top That all you have to do and there a hole there and obviously it is going in

that temperature is plummeting so I'm pouring boiling coffee into this thing right so we also need

to pay attention to time but they basically say just swirl it around a little bit and so now we can see that

the heat of the coffee is competing with the ice in this unit. So temperature is up to 120. So

now it's starting to drop down a bit. So we're going to do this for somewhere about 60 to 75 seconds

I'm not actually timing it because that's too many things going on at once. But I'll tell you

if you use something like this temperature probe and you get a glass of ice water, it's going to be

somewhere about 45 degrees or so. So that's going to be our goal to get this thing

cold enough that we can pour it over ice and not have the ice melt. So it's already down to 93 degrees

so it's already going to be unpleasantly lukewarm, not a temperature that's good for coffee

So we'll just keep swirling it, and it will go down. And while we're doing this, let me tell you just a little bit about it

So this is the hyperchiller, and it's made of non-BPA plastic and food-grade stainless steel. You'll see that when I disassemble it

It has a 12.5 ounce capacity and you can do this process twice without re-freezing it and

Obviously, I'm just using regular water in the unit so that ice just doesn't have a whole lot of capacity to take that heat and

so it just keeps moving. And when it's done, we're going to actually have to take the temperature probe out

So there's two holes in the top. The top is recessed and at an angle

So that gives you your poor spout So you ready I just went from boiling coffee to iced coffee And notice we are not seeing those ice cubes start to melt or anything So there we go That looks about perfect Now let put the temperature probe in see what temperature

So there's cups within cups within cups. So we have this. And at the bottom here, you probably can't see there's a little bit of melted water

because this is the outermost water container. So you fill this up to a specific line because remember when water freezes it expands

you don't want anything to break. So you do that and then it perfectly fills up with ice and then here's our stainless steel cup

We open this up and there's another one. So this is where the coffee was

And then this also comes off. And now we have water. This is actually a tube of ice

So you can see the concept's really simple. So you fill this with water to the specific point
