The beautiful new Casio Edifice ECB-S100HR-1A Watch is an homage to the history of Honda Racing and Formula-1. It takes its distinctive championship white and red colors from the very first F1 car Honda had on the track! But it's an Edifice, so it's a great watch too, with solar power, two bands, Bluetooth connectivity with your smartphone, and more! But... there is one issue with the design that you might want to know about too, as watch aficionado Dave Taylor explores in this review. With lots of closeups!

This is one of the most unique watches in the Edifice lineup
0:03
Let's give it a closer look. Dave Taylor here, and I'm checking out this
0:14
This is the Casio Edifice ECB-S100HR-1A. That is a mouthful. So, we'll refer to it by its other name, which is the Honda Racing Championship White Edition
0:27
And it's a beauty. It's a really cool watch. Now, I know you're really into close-ups
0:33
I'm going to give you a lot of close-ups as I talk. Don't worry. But I want to tell you this is an homage to Honda's F1 or Formula One racing car history
0:42
And, in fact, their original car was white with red details. And so, that's why this watch is white with, ready for it, red on the back of the leather band
0:55
So cool. Now, you'll notice the band also says Honda Racing on it
1:00
And the metal clasp here also says Honda. And there's just a lot of cool details
1:07
The outer rim of the watch is also in what they call Championship White
1:13
I really like it. And it is a classic four-button design, which is like a lot of the Edifice watches
1:20
So, it is also solar-powered. And my experience with the solar is that as long as you're watching the sun sporadically
1:28
then you'll never, ever have to worry about charging it. Now, this does have a secret superpower in that it can pair via Bluetooth with the Edifice app on your phone
1:38
I'll show you that in a second. But that means that you can always have the time exactly right
1:44
You can set world time. And it supports 300 different cities for world time
1:49
And I'll let you puzzle this out. They support 38 time zones
1:54
We have 24 hours in a day. How can there be 38 time zones
1:58
I'm going to let you puzzle that out. So, stopwatch, countdown timer, five daily alarms, one of which has snooze
2:06
There's time and place recording, which is really handy. And it's 100 meters water-resistant
2:13
And it has a sapphire crystal. So, it should stay absolutely pristine for a ridiculously long amount of time
2:21
Say that right. And let me give you a close-up so you can see how the dual LED light on the watch face works
2:30
It's really nice. Now, I will admit that if you're not in direct sunlight, those little background screens are pretty hard to read
2:38
But you can push that button and it will actually give you a nice illuminated screen
2:44
which makes it a lot easier to read in the middle of the night or something
2:48
And you can adjust on the phone in the app how long that light stays on
2:53
In fact, let's go ahead and pair it with the app. So, what I'm going to do is I'm going to, let's see, let's get the recording started
3:00
which is pretty easy to do on an iPhone. And then I'm going to launch the Edifice app
3:07
Maybe. Let's try again. I'm going to launch the Edifice app. And so now you can see that on the app it's not showing me a whole lot
3:16
But when I push and hold the lower left button to get to Bluetooth pairing
3:21
then it will see the phone. The phone will see the watch
3:27
Everything will pair. And do-si-do momentarily, I'll be able to control my watch from the app on the phone
3:35
which is really the way to go. If I tap on the gear icon and go to this specific watch
3:41
you can see there is a ton of different settings you can access
3:45
There's just a lot you can do here. And you can even do time adjustments
3:50
You can specify how long it should be connected to the app before it disconnects
3:55
If that's too short, it can be super frustrating. But let's also go back, and this is also where I can adjust things like world time
4:03
So right now, my home time is Denver, which is what's being displayed on the screen
4:09
And then I have a world time for London. But if I switch the two, and then the on-screen time will zip along
4:18
But then if I send that data to the watch, and I hope you'll be able to see that it will actually change the time on the watch
4:30
And that's pretty cool. And one of the things you should think about as I'm showing you this demo
4:35
is that this also means that your watch is always in sync
4:39
and it's always on time, because it's really easy to just pair it or do this with your phone
4:46
So I'm going to switch back so that my home time is Denver
4:50
And that means I will have to send this data again. And let's see
4:56
Again, hopefully you can see that going on on the screen. And it's just really cool
5:03
There's a lot I really like about this. Now, let's see. That looks good
5:08
So I don't have to do anything. It'll just automatically, it's still changing time, I guess
5:13
But it will just automatically disconnect when it's ready. So what I'm going to do is I'm going to put the watch on
5:20
and you can see it's a very traditional clasp. Oops, let's stop that recording
5:25
There we go. So it's a very traditional clasp here. And you just pull the buckle through and get it to the hole that you like
5:34
There's probably specific terminology for all of that. Whatever. And then put the band through here, and I'm good to go
5:42
Now, one of the things that I also want to show you is I want to do like a mini unboxing
5:47
because the packaging is gorgeous. Check this out, right? So, as it says on the front, Honda Racing Limited Edition
5:53
It is a limited edition. If this is something that you want to add to your collection
5:58
or you just really like this watch and want to get this one, then you need to act, my friend
6:03
You need to get one, because there's not a zillion of them out there
6:07
Now, we go to the box again. Honda Racing Limited Edition. Open it up
6:12
And, of course, the watch itself would be on this side. And then there's a second band
6:18
So the watch band, the white watch band, is leather. But the second band is a black fabric band
6:27
And then you're thinking, hmm, how do you change them? And I am very pleased to notice that they are taking an idea from like the Apple Watch and stuff
6:36
and there's a little tiny clasp that you can just slide, and that makes it really easy to switch watch bands
6:44
But if you don't feel like that's good enough, when you open the box
6:48
there's a ton of stuff underneath here, mostly documents. But there is a tiny screwdriver, and that you can use to change watch bands
6:57
So you can really do any watch band. It's a pretty standard size, but it comes with this module information
7:04
because the way Casio makes these edifice watches is that they have a shared internals
7:10
and then they have different faces. And these documents are daunting, and it reminds me of looking at a roadmap from 50 years ago. Yikes
7:20
So the good news is that there's a QR code. So what I highly recommend is you scan the QR code
7:27
and then you can read this document in very large font, and actually be able to understand it all on your computer
7:35
So that makes it much, much easier. So we have the module, but there's all sorts of other fun stuff, too
7:42
There's even a little standee that you can unfold, and I can now act as if I have my own watch store, right
7:49
That's pretty fun. And let's see what else is in here. There's another card that gives you QR codes to get the app
7:56
and there's the little tag that was on the watch itself that gives you all of the information that you would see
8:03
if the watch was actually on display at a watch store. And so really, honestly, once you take the watch out
8:11
the only other thing you're going to want to actually have is the band
8:15
because the rest of it, once you figure out how to do that pairing with your app
8:20
then everything else is really done through the app. And in fact, the app includes a user's guide, which is really handy
8:27
So not much else I can tell you about it. Let me just go down some specs here
8:31
So we talked about 300 cities world time in 38 time zones
8:36
stopwatch, countdown timer, five daily alarms, one of which has a snooze feature
8:41
There's time and place recording and 100 meter water resistance, sapphire crystal
8:47
There's the leather band, which is white and red, very distinctive. And then size-wise, it's 50 millimeters by 46 millimeters by 9.8 millimeters
8:57
So it is nice and reasonably thin. I think putting it on my wrist, I don't know about you
9:04
but I think it is super attractive. And I was initially unsure about the white on the watch face
9:11
and I've grown to really like it over the last couple of weeks. I think it's really fun and really distinctive
9:17
The only observation I will have, and you can see that in this photo
9:22
is that the sort of X-shaped crossbars that are part of the base design
9:28
can be a little confusing when you're trying to read the time
9:32
I wish there was a little bit more of a contrast there
9:36
but especially in the sun, those sort of sideways X can end up being bright and shiny
9:43
which then means you lose the minute and hour hand. But honestly, oddly, every single time I've looked at it to see what time it is
9:53
I've known what time it is. So, so much to like about this watch
9:57
Only thing left to talk about is the price. Now, before we get to the price, I'm going to ask if you could subscribe to my channel
10:04
Super easy. Click or tap. And also, give me some feedback. Leave me a comment. Give me a thumbs up
10:10
Tell me what you wish I would have shown more of, or what you didn't care about that I showed up in super close
10:16
Always up for feedback as I learn more about how to do these sort of reviews
10:22
which leads us to the price. This is the Casio Edifice ECB-S100HR-1A
10:33
It is still a mouthful. And it's $350 at Casio.com. It's not the easiest URL to find, so go into my description
10:44
and I actually have a shortcut straight to the page for this particular product
10:48
It is a limited edition. They are not making a zillion of them
10:52
They are not going to manufacture this for the next 20 years. If you like this, you don't have to be a Honda racing fan
10:58
but if you're a Honda fan, this is an absolute no-brainer, great present or great watch for your own collection
11:05
But even if you don't like Honda, even if you don't like racing
11:09
it's just a beautiful watch. I really like it. I know, I know
11:13
I'm a big fan of the whole Edifice lineup, but there's a reason for that. I think they have a really great match of design and features and functionality
11:23
and all their watches look really cool. And this is just, with its white face and its white strap
11:29
just a really distinctive and very different watch than really the vast majority of my personal collection
11:36
So, definitely one worth checking out. And with that, I've got to go back to the racetrack
11:40
so I'll catch you in my next video. Visit www.Flydreamers.com for more
