Beyerdynamic is more known for its high end audiophile headphones, so the Custom One Pro is an interesting, far more affordable option. It also has an unusual design element: A sliding switch on each earpiece that lets you boost the bass to quite extreme levels. Some people can't have enough bass - like my teen daughter! - while others like to hear the full range of music.
Tech expert Dave Taylor of https://www.AskDaveTaylor.com/ checks out the bass boost with the Beyerdynamic Custom One Pro Plus and isn't as impressed as he expected, as explained in this detailed video review.
Warning: lots of sound effects added. Possibly too many. :-)

headphones with super base enhancement
0:03
let's find out if they're worth
0:06
[Music]
0:12
it Dave Taylor here and I want to talk
0:14
about headphones this time I want to
0:17
talk about these These are really
0:19
interesting these are the Bayer Dynamic
0:21
Custom 1 Pro plus plus is plus an
0:26
accessory kit so let's start there all
0:29
right so you can see here that on the
0:31
ear cups there is this space on each
0:34
side these headphones come with all
0:37
these cool inserts so there's a lot of
0:41
different designs in fact they are
0:42
two-sided designs so there's quite a lot
0:47
of different ways that you can customize
0:49
the look of your headphones that's super
0:52
fun but of course really what matters
0:54
with headphones is what do they sound
0:56
like so let's talk about these because
0:59
these have super base
1:02
enhancement and what does that look like
1:04
it's these slider switches on both of
1:08
the ear pieces that actually let you go
1:11
from a normal standard um audio to
1:15
having enhanced super enhanced crazy
1:18
super enhanced base and you know what
1:22
they sound really good when you don't
1:24
have it on at all so maybe it's just the
1:27
kind of music I listen to but I've tried
1:29
you know some fairly Industrial Music
1:32
and some more techn pop and stuff and
1:35
the Bas is just kind of Overkill it just
1:38
gives you so much base that there's
1:39
really not much space for anything else
1:41
in your music so the good news is you
1:44
can even adjust them while you have your
1:46
headphones on you can literally just
1:47
move the slider up and down it's a
1:49
little stiff but you can do that and
1:51
just hear what is my music sound like
1:54
with all that extra base or what does it
1:56
sound like without it now I'm doing this
2:00
but don't be confused these are not
2:01
wireless headphones you are required to
2:04
plug in a wire and what's cool is they
2:06
include two wires so this one is your
2:09
more standard headphone wire and it has
2:11
as you can see an adapter if you want to
2:14
use an old school headphone jack or 3.5
2:18
mm but the cooler one is this one which
2:21
is a little shorter but it has a
2:24
built-in remote mic and so you can
2:28
actually plug it in
2:30
and now you can actually take phone
2:32
calls with it so of course I immediately
2:35
had to try that by plugging it into my
2:38
phone and making a phone call and the
2:40
person on the other end it was kind of
2:43
weird they sounded better on these than
2:45
they do in person sorry Steve you just
2:48
sounded great when you were on my
2:50
headphones and he said that I sounded
2:53
Crystal Clear really really good so
2:55
that's really nice and you would expect
2:57
no less from Bay or dynamic cuz they
2:59
really know what they're doing with
3:00
microphones and with headphones
3:02
particularly in the microphone side they
3:03
do a ton of stuff with microphones and
3:06
you know so so really good stuff now let
3:09
me also point out that these are the
3:12
style of headphones that really seal
3:15
around your ears now they're soft and
3:17
there's lots of padding but this really
3:20
there ain't no sound when you put these
3:22
on but they're not active noise
3:25
cancellation so they're not what's
3:27
called andc These are more of what they
3:29
call passive noise cancellation which
3:31
means you can't hear nothing else cuz
3:33
they're on your ears so snug um on a hot
3:38
day when you're sweating these are not
3:40
going to be great but normal listening
3:42
environment these are a nice way to cut
3:44
out a lot of background noise will they
3:47
compete effectively on something like an
3:48
airplane probably not I think in a
3:51
really loud environment active noise
3:53
cancellation can be a huge win but if
3:57
you just want to hear something while
3:58
you're studying at school or you're at
4:01
work and you just don't want to hear the
4:03
chatter from the people around you while
4:05
you're in your cubicle sorry you're in a
4:07
cubicle so it goes um these can work
4:10
really well now one thing I did find is
4:12
that when I first plugged them in I only
4:14
got one channel of audio and I thought
4:17
hm that's weird so I reversed the cable
4:20
and then I got both channels and I said
4:23
okay so there's something about the
4:25
connector so then I went back to the
4:27
regular connector cuz of course you
4:29
don't really want your microphone at the
4:31
phone end you want your microphone at
4:33
the headphone end so again I put them in
4:36
and what I realized is that they're
4:38
different size ends and I'm not sure why
4:41
they designed it that way but this one
4:43
actually requires a little bit of
4:46
enthusiastic pushing to get it to really
4:49
connect properly and if you don't have
4:51
it in quite far enough then you're going
4:54
to get left Channel audio but not right
4:56
channel audio so it's pretty easy to
4:58
know you didn't do it right but I found
5:00
that to be surprising that I had to push
5:02
it in so enthusiastically and that might
5:05
be something that over time becomes less
5:06
of a hassle let's see what else can I
5:09
tell you so it comes with both cables
5:11
comes with the cool accessory kit which
5:14
is what the plus means comes with this
5:16
little adapter it does not come with a
5:18
carrying case and these do not fold up
5:21
so these are not the greatest portable
5:23
headphones in the world cuz they're
5:25
going to be just like this in your bag
5:27
or your backpack so that's up to you to
5:30
decide if that's an issue um the remote
5:33
microphone is compatible with both
5:35
iPhone and Android cool and let's see
5:39
these there are actually 16 pairs of
5:42
stickers whoa and I haven't decided
5:46
whether I'm going to put any of them on
5:47
but hey I could be hash happppy so there
5:52
is
5:52
that seriously # happppppy are you going
5:56
to put those on yours it's cool I'm not
5:58
judging you I'm not # judging
6:02
you um frequency response is just crazy
6:05
it's way better than you're hearing it
6:07
goes from 5 Hertz up to 35,000 Hertz
6:10
honestly you're not going to be able to
6:12
hear that much I know I can't hear that
6:13
much and in terms of the sound let's
6:16
talk about that for a second I wasn't
6:18
really Blown Away by these now you know
6:21
to be fair beay Dynamic makes some
6:23
really beautiful high-end headphones
6:25
that are in the $900,000 range and they
6:28
have amazing sound
6:30
so I didn't expect these to sound quite
6:32
like that but they sound good but not
6:36
great there's a sort of I don't know
6:39
there's like the mid-range is a little
6:41
low and it's not too bright which is
6:44
nice but I just was wanting a little
6:46
more out of my music than I was getting
6:49
uh kind of hard to describe but they
6:51
sound really good for the price range
6:53
but maybe I've just been spoiled by
6:54
having far more expensive headphones on
6:57
my as a sort of daily wear
7:00
um if you can try them you know I think
7:03
you you'll like them you know you go
7:04
look on Amazon people love the sound on
7:06
these things and frankly some people
7:08
like the base boosts I don't get that
7:11
but they are happy and that's all that
7:14
really matters
7:16
um but you know these are Big
7:19
substantial headphones they're
7:20
comfortable they you can wear them for a
7:22
couple hours they don't have the issue
7:24
I've had with some recent headphones
7:26
where I suddenly feel like my head's
7:27
about 4 in too wide maybe it is I don't
7:31
know but I don't want my headphones
7:33
telling me that um and the 1.6 lb so
7:37
they're not the Super lightest
7:38
headphones in the world but that's also
7:40
because of the style the ere sealing
7:42
style there's a certain amount of
7:45
Hardware you have to do to be able to
7:46
make
7:47
these now speaking about a certain
7:50
amount of things you got to do one of
7:52
the things I'm going to ask you to do
7:53
right now is go ahead and click on that
7:55
subscribe button done great thank you
7:58
really appreciate that now the only
8:01
other question is all right with all
8:04
these cool stickers and everything how
8:06
much do they cost and actually to be
8:08
fair they're not stickers they're like
8:09
little plastic inserts um so these Bayer
8:13
Dynamic custom one Pro Plus
8:16
headphones with the accessory kit
8:19
included and both cables and this box
8:22
how do you not like that box is
8:25
$173 4 I'm not kidding you
8:31
$734 at
8:33
amazon.com why the 4 cents why
8:36
$173 who the heck knows but that's how
8:39
much they are and I like them I don't
8:42
love them but I like them and for some
8:45
people these could be a really rocking
8:47
solution especially if you're just never
8:49
happy with how much base you have just
8:51
be careful that adding more and more
8:54
Basse by using the sliders doesn't end
8:56
up washing out the rest of the range of
8:58
music that you're listen listening to
9:00
but again for some people that might be
9:02
awesome anyway this is Dave Taylor and
9:04
I'll catch you in my next video
