Add Bluetooth capabilities to any audio system. Let's have a look
0:12
Dave Taylor here, and you know, if you have older speakers or a hi-fi system or any audio system
0:18
it's probably likely that you don't have Bluetooth capabilities. Those are really new for audio systems
0:25
So, you don't want to just leave everything in the dust, right? Enter this. This really cool device is the 1Mee B08 Bluetooth receiver
0:35
And as you can see by the wires, it is powered, and it has a lot of connectors on the back
0:41
You can see in this close-up. There's a lot going on here. So, there's a 3.5mm input, so you can use it as line-in and just use it as an amp with old speakers
0:51
It'll work fine for that, but it's really for Bluetooth, too. We'll come back to the Bluetooth. Let's keep talking about the back
0:58
On the back, for outputs are RCA, coax, optical, and that classic 2 wires per speaker wires
1:06
Now, you're thinking, hmm, there's no 3.5mm audio out. Well, they got you covered with an RCA to 3.5mm adapter, so you're good with that
1:16
Also comes with a line wire, comes with RCA to RCA, which is what I'm using
1:21
and it even comes with an optical wire. So, what's optical for? Often, that's for televisions and for devices that work with TVs
1:28
like your Blu-ray player, things like that. So, probably RCA is what you're going to use, and maybe, more likely, RCA to 3.5mm
1:37
But I have this old-school Cambridge Audio speaker, and this speaker actually works with RCA
1:43
So, I have RCA to RCA, and that looks like this on each end
1:48
You probably remember these, where you get red to red, white to white, and all of that's glorious
1:54
The question is, what does it sound like? So, let's find out
2:01
Okay, so, this is Bluetooth from my phone to the 1My, 1Me, B08 Bluetooth receiver
2:11
and then that via wire to Cambridge Audio. And you're thinking, that sounds pretty good. Let's turn it up
2:21
It gets pretty darn loud, right? And, of course, obviously, the volume control I'm using is right here
2:28
I can also use the controls on my phone, but it's all good
2:32
Now, let me tell you a little bit more about it. So, this works with Bluetooth 5.0, or you can use Line In
2:38
It will do an amp that way. You can use for Line In, for example, something like an Echo Dot or a Google Home, right
2:45
One of those little guys has audio out, so you can hook that up to this
2:51
and then you can have really nice, your whole stereo system can suddenly be enabled for voice control
2:58
Pretty sweet, right? So, it also has aptX and aptX HD, which is great, particularly if you have an Android phone, which has aptX
3:09
The iPhone uses AAC, which is a little weird, because MacBooks and MacBook Pros and MacBook Airs all actually also use aptX
3:17
Can't explain what Apple did there, but even without that, as you heard, it still sounds pretty darn sweet
3:23
It has a lot of range. Because it has this dual antenna, you actually get a 160 feet line of sight, plus or minus, and 60 feet indoors
3:33
which means if you have your phone in your pocket and you have this in the front room where your stereo is
3:39
you can actually go upstairs and use the restroom or whatever, and that music ain't never gonna stop
3:44
It's gonna continue to work just fine. Bluetooth 5.0 is pretty sweet that way
3:49
Now, I already told you about the inputs and outputs. I kind of wish there was a 3.5 millimeter output
3:55
That is something maybe they'll do in the next rev. Not sure where they'd put it, though. There's really no room on the back
4:00
I would suspect that they could lose optical and replace it with 3.5 out, and that would be fine, but who knows
4:06
Now, one thing I will say is it comes with a pretty big power adapter
4:11
Let me go ahead and unplug it. This is a fairly hefty device, given how small the unit is, so that's something to think about
4:17
It is just, I guess, sort of the inevitable consequence of modern electronics
4:23
but it's a bit surprising, given all the modern technologies that are making these smaller
4:27
But be that as it may, dimensions-wise, it is 7.5 by 6 by 3, and it's 1.6 pounds
4:35
It really feels like they forgot to put the circuits inside. It's really light
4:39
There's really nothing you're gonna worry about. You could easily, like, tape this to the side of a device or something
4:45
and really, once you have it turned on, you're never gonna actually need to control it directly
4:49
although I suppose you might want the volume controls, but probably you're gonna get to the setting you want
4:54
and then use your remote device to actually manage it. That's all there is to it
4:59
It works really well. It has a really clean sound. It's easy to work with
5:03
It has a ton of flexibility, in terms of you being able to get those old speakers back online
5:10
and back working with Bluetooth right off your phone or tablet or computer
5:15
How sweet is all that, right? So, only thing left to talk about is the price
5:19
but before we get to the price, let me ask if you can subscribe to my channel
5:23
I'd really appreciate it. It's just one tap away. Oh, and let's just look real quick at the front, too
5:29
So, on the front, there's this glorious old-school on-off toggle switch, and then there's bass and treble and volume
5:37
and there's a slight detente when you're halfway, so it's an easy way to orient
5:42
and so when you have bass or treble, and they don't give you a huge amount of difference
5:47
There's not a lot that you'll tell. In fact, let's bring the music back on and turn the volume up
5:54
and let's see. And now I'm going to turn the bass all the way down
6:02
and the treble all the way up. It's a little brighter, and now let's do the opposite
6:09
Treble all the way down, bass all the way up. That's a little more rumbly
6:16
So, it gives you some level of control. It's not a huge amount. It's not as fancy
6:21
Sorry, I'm yelling. It's not as fancy as a full equalizer, but it is a way for you to fine-tune your sound a little bit
6:28
and that's worth knowing about. So, all right, with all of that in mind
6:33
this is the 1ME B-08 Bluetooth receiver, and it is a very modest $74.99 at Amazon.com
6:41
That's a particularly modest price when you remember that it has aptX HD built into it, which is really nice
6:48
That's going to give you a really rich, full sound. I'm a fan. This is super easy to work with
6:53
It takes old devices like this and gives them a new life
6:57
That's a good thing. So, with that, I'm going to go back to my music, which means that I'll catch you in my next video
