back. If you're watching on the live
0:40
stream, you're watching Summer Showdown,
0:43
the 20th anniversary here of the UPWA.
0:46
It's an honor to have you here and it's
0:48
an honor to induct this year's class of
0:51
2025 into the UPWA Hall of Fame. Let's
0:55
start with our first recipient. He says,
0:57
"I started my wrestling career in 1985.
1:01
Was trained by Nelson Royal and Jane
1:04
Anderson in Morsboro, North Carolina
1:07
at their housing camp for 2 years. Then
1:11
I made my day, my debut I should say, in
1:15
1987 with the National Wrestling
1:18
Alliance. I worked for the NWA for about
1:21
5 years and then they changed to WCW.
1:27
I continued wrestling for them until
1:29
well
1:30
I've actually not stopped.
1:32
Okay.
1:32
I took on the name Dark Star from a
1:35
tribe in South Africa.
1:38
I am from Wilmington, North Carolina.
1:41
I wrestled for New Hover High School,
1:43
class of 1976.
1:46
wrestling coach James Moresy. I've
1:49
worked for several wrestling federations
1:51
all over the United States. Great people
1:53
to work for. My hobbies are camping,
1:56
fishing, and gardening and working with
1:59
you folks. It could only be one person,
2:04
and that is Dark Star inducted in the
2:08
UPWA Hall of Fame.
2:11
[Applause]
2:20
I would like to say thank you for
2:23
so much. It's good to be recognized by
2:26
your peers. Whatever I have achieved is
2:30
because of y'all. So, thank you for the
2:34
memories. And I would always share this
2:37
moment from the bottom of my heart.
2:40
Y'all made it possible for me. and the
2:43
young gladiators.
2:45
Uh, the music was very bright for y'all.
2:47
Thank you,
2:49
Dark Star. Everybody, congratulations on
2:52
your induction into the Hall of Fame.
2:54
Thank you. Thank you.
2:57
Thanks for coming. Thank you.
3:00
Ladies and gentlemen, our next recipient
3:02
grew up a lifelong fan that had a lot of
3:05
backstage access. He trained initially
3:08
under Chief Jay Eagle and had his first
3:12
match on June 3rd, 1989.
3:16
A couple years later, he met and worked
3:18
with Nelson Royal, which opened doors.
3:21
from there had his first match on the
3:24
national stage in 1992 with the Global
3:27
Wrestling Federation.
3:30
Wrestling such great as Nelson Royal,
3:32
Ivan Koff, Chief Wahoo McDaniel, Viser,
3:36
Shane Helms, Brad Scott and Steve
3:40
Armstrong, George South, and many
3:43
others. It is our honor to induct into
3:46
the 2025 UPWA Hall of Fame Mark Ash.
3:52
[Applause]
3:56
like to say a few words.
3:59
All right, those of you who know me, I'm
4:00
sure you probably expected some uh
4:02
arrogant, cocky heel promo, but that's
4:05
not what you're going to get tonight. I
4:07
want to say thank you to everybody that
4:08
came out to see me cuz 1989 star. You
4:11
started a couple years ahead of me. We
4:13
wrestled five different decades, buddy.
4:15
You know, but uh 1989 when I started, I
4:18
did it all for me. It's what I wanted to
4:19
do. But you fans, you came out and
4:21
supported me. You got behind me. I
4:22
became a fan favorite.
4:25
Uh, whatever you love to hate, whatever
4:26
you love to cheer, I was there for you.
4:29
And thanks to you, I got to go all
4:31
around the world and all around the
4:32
country. Much like Darkst Star ahead of
4:34
me. Um, you know, I want to say thank
4:36
you to, you know, much like you said to
4:38
the fans that made it all possible and
4:40
to the peers in the back. You know,
4:42
Donnie can tell you and Darkst Star can
4:44
tell you. Pack the peak. I was just as
4:47
it um um let's see as unpredictable as I
4:49
was in the ring. You know, I could
4:51
either be your best friend or the
4:52
biggest pain in the ass. A lot of it
4:53
depend on which mood I was in. But like
4:56
I said, I want to thank everybody that
4:57
put up with me. First and foremost,
4:59
thank you all guys for supporting me.
5:01
Thank you organizing. I appreciate our
5:03
cash. Everybody,
5:06
congratulations on your induction into
5:08
the UPWA Hall of Fame.
5:11
[Applause]
5:14
Last but not least, our final inductee
5:17
started in 2004
5:20
and trained by Mr. Italy, Gino Caruso.
5:24
He got into wrestling by watching
5:25
Wrestlemania 3 with his uncle Dario in
5:29
the match between Savage and Steamboat.
5:33
It made him want to be a wrestler.
5:36
He started in the UPWA in 2006,
5:40
captured the world title and tag team
5:42
titles in very short order. Despite a
5:46
relatively short time in the company, he
5:48
was one of the building blocks that set
5:50
the trend early, helping the people
5:55
wait for UPWA
5:57
for 20 years.
6:00
He wishes he was able to entertain the
6:02
fans of Wilmington even more and is
6:04
extremely proud of being inducted into
6:07
the Hall of Fame. It's a huge honor for
6:10
him personally. Those are his words.
6:13
Playboy Marcus Shields.
6:16
Give him a round of applause, ladies and
6:18
gentlemen.
6:20
Now, Playboy Marcus Shields was
6:22
unfortunately not able to be here with
6:24
us tonight. So, we will accept the honor
6:27
on his behalf. Thank you and
6:29
congratulations to all our inductees in
6:33
the UPWA Hall of Fame, class of 2025.
6:40
Ladies and gentlemen, it remains a big
6:42
honor to be with you here on this 20th

6:49
