Hello friends. My name is Corbin Ford
0:09
I'm here with the ventures and poor taste to give as brief and as spoiler-free review of Glass as possible
0:16
Direct and written by M. Knight-Shallamon Glass is the third and final entry in the Super Hill trilogy that started with the film Unbreakable all the way back in the year 2000
0:26
Yes, all the way back in the year 2000. It was followed by the movie Split in 2016 before its conclusion here
0:34
The film stars James McAvoy is Kevin Wendell Crumb, who possesses several distinct personalities
0:40
none more powerful or more frightening than that of The Beast. What becomes specifically tricky about playing many characters
0:49
is when you have to transition from one into the other. Bruce Willis as the heroic superhuman David Dunn
0:56
who is also known as the overseer. And Samuel L. Jackson is Elijah Price, the shadowy presence, who emerges as an orchestrator who holds secrets critical to both men in this film
1:19
He's still very calculating. He's still strong in his conviction. So this movie is surprisingly set two weeks after the events of Split
1:28
So it really trails right after split kicks off We come right to glass And superhuman David Dunn is on the hunt for Kevin after hearing reports of his crimes on the news
1:38
He's aided by his now grown-up son Joe, who people remember from Spencer Trace Clark's performance back in Unbreakable
1:46
And because of his help there, David tracks Kevin down to an abandoned warehouse
1:52
From there, there's a confrontation between the two, both get apprehended and locked in a psychiatric facility where
1:58
Mr. Glass already resides, and they all come into contact of Paulson's Dr. Sable, and to be
2:03
honest with you, that's where the bulk of this film takes place. Got to give a positive here I really like to acting
2:08
It was superb. And you're nothing special. A lot of people are going to die, overseer
2:17
If you don't get through that door. Particularly by James McAvoy, who played several distinct personalities very well
2:26
I enjoyed his performance of Hedwig, Patricia, and Barry especially, but him being the beast, man, it literally brought chills to my body watching him
2:35
Just take that entity and bring it to life. Also, I enjoyed the exploration into the superhero genre and what that consists of
2:44
At different times, the themes of hero, what makes the villain, the secret layer, the surprise twist, and the origin story were all brought into play
2:56
And it was very interesting to kind of watch that and see that deconstruction take place
3:00
At times though I did find that that same dialogue droned on a little bit too much to my liking really turning that from something of exploration into a celebrity TED Talk of Sorrows There only the door left Elijah
3:12
It's metal. You can't get through it because people's bones break against metal
3:18
Also found the action to be just a bit lacking as well, although there was some scenes that really took your breath away
3:24
On another positive note, the starring cast really performed well and shined in their roles
3:29
I like Spencer Treat Clark's, Anya, Joy Taylor, and Charlene Woodard's performances
3:34
And I really enjoyed, particularly the fact that Clark and Woodard were in the first movie that came out almost 20 years ago
3:41
And to see those same actors and actresses represented by the same people all these years later in the same continuity was really kind of cool
3:51
I meant that kind of stuff, so it matters to me. I would ultimately give this movie a six out of ten
3:57
I think one of the biggest indictments against it was that Unbreakable came out a little bit too early for its time and now Glass has come out a little bit too late
4:06
Think about this. In the 19 years since Glass has been released, we've had eight different X-Men movies, two different kinds of the Fantastic Four, two different Punisher movie iterations, three different Spider-Man, three different Hulks, Chris Nolan's Batman run, Zach Snyder's Man of Steel, Batman versus Superman, that horrible Justice League movie
4:27
Aquaman, all the Avengers movies, and of course this latest Infinity War bombshell film
4:34
All of that to say that a lot has happened in the last 20 years And many of the superhero tropes discussed at length in this film had been addressed before some several times in a plethora of other superhero movies
4:47
Not that there aren't other stories or themes to explore in the superhero genre and the
4:51
comic book universe, just that they weren't explored here. At the same time, I cannot stress enough how well I enjoyed the acting in this film
4:59
The story was great, and the conclusion, while I did have some issues with it, really brought
5:04
the whole trilogy to a satisfying end. And that cannot be overstated, especially when there have been several different attempts
5:11
at that in the past that ended where you were left somewhat lacking and hoping for more
5:16
I really enjoyed Glass in that respect. I do think that it could have been improved on just a bit more, and especially for the weight
5:23
However, if you go and watch it, and I recommend that you do, you will come away with some
5:28
very interesting thoughts on not only the superhero genre, but also great acting by
5:31
James McAvoy and some funny Nicki Minot. Drake and Salt Bay Jokes
5:37
All right, y'all. I hope you enjoyed this. Again, this has been Corbyn Ford with Adventures in Poor Taste
