Yeah, a little deep dead fool fang there for the viewers
0:16
Oh, hey there comic book fans. Just doing a little drawing, you know, normal stuff for me
0:23
Definitely not upset about, you know, the Penguins not being in the playoffs anymore
0:29
Everything's fine. Everything's fine. How are you? How are you? Probably excited. You should be excited
0:36
There's a lot of kickass comic books coming out this week. That's right. It's another edition of AIPT's 5 in 5 where I count down the top 5 comic books from the week that you should buy
0:45
It's a huge week for DC, Marvel, and Image. So let's dive right in and take a look at what we got coming out on Wednesday
0:52
Kicking off this week's releases from Image Comics is Port of Earth number 5 making its return after a short hiatus following the first four issues
1:00
It's written by Zach Kaplan and drawn by Andrea Moody. In the very near future, aliens make contact with Earth
1:06
But they don't bring an army. They bring a corporation, which, let's be honest, is probably worse than bringing an army
1:12
That corporation has a deal for Earth. They're going to build an intergalactic rest stop slash gas station among a highly trafficked commercial area that falls along Earth
1:21
And in exchange, Earth gets to join the intergalactic economy and take part in any technology that they discover from this trade
1:30
There's no way this will have bad ramifications for Earth, right? Wrong
1:34
And that's what Port of Earth is all about. In just four short issues, Zach Kaplan has created a massively vibrant world with so many different alien races, each with their own intricate backstory
1:44
It's actually kind of hard to believe it's only been four issues because the world feels so populated and alive
1:49
Meanwhile, the art from Andrea Moody and the color from colorist Vladimir Popov, that's his name, not the alcohol, the colorist
1:57
it creates this very dystopian vibe with really muted color palettes and it makes it feel like the world is totally disheveled and thrown into disarray with this new economic deal
2:05
It's a great series. I would recommend picking up The Trade, which I believe is out now
2:09
And if you can't pick up The Trade that contains issues one through four, go to your local comic shop, grab one through four, and then grab number five because it's a kick-ass series
2:15
It's one of Image's best right now. You gotta read it. It was Zach Kaplan's first stab at writing a comic book and it's pretty goddamn good. Definitely read it
2:23
Our number four release this week is You Are Deadpool 2, written by Al Ewing, with art by Paco Diaz, and story direction by you, the reader
2:33
I'm honestly so surprised by this series. I wrote it off as a cheap gimmick to bring in more sales numbers just before Deadpool 2 hit theaters and I was absolutely blown away
2:42
If you're a fan of Dungeons & Dragons, RPGs, Deadpool, or even just laughing, you have to read, nay, experience You Are Deadpool
2:51
It's not just a comic book. It's a totally interactive story that you really control and it's awesome and it's so much fun
2:57
I cannot overstate how great it is and it invites a second reading, which is the coolest part
3:02
You'll finish it and go, hmm, this story could have diverged. I'm gonna read it again. It's truly fascinating
3:08
You Are Deadpool is much less a comic book and way more an interactive, solo Dungeons & Dragons adventure where Deadpool, of all people, is your dungeon master
3:18
It works. It's a blast. Grab a pen, grab some paper, grab two six-sided dies, and join the adventure. I promise you, you will love it
3:27
And our number three release this week is Venom No. 1, written by Donny Cates and drawn by Ryan Stegman
3:34
The second of Marvel's not relaunches that are definitely totally relaunches is Venom No. 1
3:40
But this one is certainly a relaunch that looks to change the very history of the character
3:45
The recent collapse of S.H.I.E.L.D. has awakened something deep and mysterious and evil underneath New York City
3:50
while simultaneously awakening something completely new within the symbiote itself that will completely alter the way that Venom interacts with its host, Eddie Brock
3:59
What's most interesting about this series, though, is how it looks like it's going to focus way more on the symbiote than it does on Eddie Brock
4:05
And no offense to Eddie Brock, but we've seen so many stories with him before, so I'm really interested to see what Donny Cates does when he takes the focus away from the human host
4:14
and instead puts it on the alien symbiote that has overtaken him and how their relationship ebbs and flows and what this massive status change is going to do for the two
4:23
Meanwhile, artist Ryan Stegman is no stranger to web-slinging badasses. He drew Superior Spider-Man, he draws Ben Reilly's Scarlet Spider, and he draws Amazing Spider-Man
4:35
So he's got the pedigree to take over this series, and with writer Donny Cates at the helm, Venom is in perfect hands
4:43
Coming in at number two, hot off the heels of DC's Metal, is Justice League No Justice No. 1
4:50
Written by Scott Snyder, James Tynion IV, and Josh Williamson, and drawn by Francis Monopoul
4:57
This new frontier brings completely new enemies for the Justice League to combat, as they fight against the four main energies that make up this new area past the source wall
5:06
Those four energies? Wisdom, Entropy, Mystery, and Wonder. To face these new threats, the Justice League forms four new sub-teams that are, well, they're interesting to say the least
5:20
You got Wonder Woman and Zatanna teaming up, Superman and Sinestro, Harley Quinn and..
5:27
Wait, wait. Harley Quinn is in the Justice League. Harley Quinn. Yeah, the suicide Harley Quinn is in the Justice League
5:36
That alone should sell you on this book. What's truly fascinating about this book, however, is how it's a completely collaborative effort between the three writers
5:43
If you look at interviews with them or read anything that has been covered about this book, you might know that none of these pages are singly attributed to one writer
5:51
Each writer touched every single line, every page, every piece of script, and truly collaborated to make this product that you're gonna read
5:59
And our number one pick for the week, a pick that truly saddens me and darkens my already black heart
6:06
Deadpool number 300, The End of an Era, written by Jerry Dugan, with art by Matteo Lali, Scott Koblish, and Mike Hawthorne
6:15
Much like how Daniel Wei's run finally ended with Deadpool putting a gun in his mouth and pulling the trigger
6:20
this series looks to end with Deadpool finally culminating his wonderfully elaborate suicide plot
6:26
It's been building up for the past couple issues and it's finally coming ahead as basically everyone in the Marvel Universe wants Deadpool dead
6:33
Including Deadpool. Expected to be emotionally wrought, hilarious, action-packed, and I can't wait to see what Dugan and Hawthorne have up their sleeves
6:42
I'm truly sad to see them both go. Special shoutout to Dugan for writing Deadpool number 20
6:48
That was a truly fantastic issue and was very personal to me
6:52
I really enjoyed it. It really shined mental health in a great light. For a character like Deadpool, I couldn't believe it
6:57
So, from the bottom of my heart, thank you guys for one of the best runs on my character
7:01
Alrighty, that wraps it up for the week of May 9th, 2018
7:06
Those are the five books you gotta pick up at your local comic book shop this week. And as always, make sure to like, subscribe, review, share with your friends
7:13
and then check out AdventuresInPoorTaste.com on Wednesday to see what we thought of these books
7:19
My guess is that they're all gonna get some pretty high ratings, because, you know, this is a pretty big deal to be on the list
7:25
A lot of people have said that, like my dad and one of my roommates who watched it
7:29
So, you know, it's pretty important. I'll see you guys next week
