In the inaugural edition of Attention Deficit Hyperactive Politics, hosts Doug and Todd work their way through opening jitters, technical glitches, and out-right misnaming their own show, but eventually settle into a groove discussing who they are and what they stand for, their thoughts on the current state of national politics, and introduce us to what the show will be all about.
The discussion starts with the “Why” of the show and progresses to Doug’s five “political principles” that inform the way he thinks about current events and policies. Todd shares his history with podcasts and explains why this show is ADHD-related.
In “News of the Week,” the duo discuss the Trump Admin’s inclusion of an Atlantic journalist in a top-secret defense chat-group, Tom Homan’s admission that they’re deporting people without bothering to prove if they’ve committed a crime (or are even non-citizens), and the current events in Turkey, which Doug believes are a blueprint for how Trump will attempt to undermine American elections.
In true ADHD fashion, the course of the show darts from topic to topic, curving into culture with shallow dives into 1984, South Park, and even a Biblical reference. And at the end, the guys clear the air with “What’s Geek this Week,” including an ADHP-EXCLUSIVE update on a coming legacy film sequel that we can confirm is in the works. You’ll just have to tune in to find out!

still thoughts Collide they always a million voices shout my name never
0:15
boring never what do you want to do tonight Doug the same thing we do every night
0:22
Todd try to take over the world of podcasting there we go
0:30
all righty then I kind of think that'd be a good part for the theme song to hit though but we could we could we could
0:36
figure out how to how to put that in there
0:42
so see let me open up the uh the show
0:48
notes so Doug was nice enough to to to to write out some some some uh outline
0:56
for the show uh so introduction what the show is and who we are and um
1:04
you want to start yeah I'll start it so this is the adhp the Attention
1:11
Deficit Hyperactive podcast we are a couple of neuros spicy dudes that are talking politics this is going to be
1:17
local to Washington State and also National because ultimately I just have
1:22
to be on the record about what's going on right now even if you and I are the only ones that ever hear this I I have
1:29
to be on the record I can't I I cannot abide what's going on and then just
1:34
Fritter away on the internet and social media arguments but uh we'll bring some of those social media arguments to this
1:41
podcast that'll be a feature of the show um and uh we have some principles we're
1:48
going to go over this is this is the first time I've done a podcast in gosh
1:53
15 years oh wow yeah and but but yeah but Todd you're more you're a little more regular on this like you wna you
2:00
want to tell us what your your history is with podcast my history with podcasting is um in 201 I went to
2:08
Emerald City ComicCon and I was there to meet uh Pinky and the Brain that's why
2:14
we did that little opening sketch because that's one of my favorite uh shows from the 90s and I got to meet Rob
2:20
palson and Maurice Lamar and during one of the panels they had for voice acting
2:26
and all that kind of stuff uh Rob said hey I have a podcast if you guys are interested and we talk about the things
2:32
we're talking about here and I'm like I would absolutely love to listen to that podcast cuz it was just a bunch of voice
2:38
actors talking about creating characters and whatnot and uh so that was my first
2:44
ever download of a podcast ever I knew that podcast existed I knew that Kevin Smith was huge into podcasting at that
2:51
point because he' kind of given up on making movies and but I had no like knowledge
2:57
of how to find it or where to get get it and and how to what it even is so I
3:04
after being in that panel for an hour I was like I have to listen to this podcast if it's anything like what I
3:10
just experienced this is going to be awesome so I went onto my Android phone which at that point they uh Google
3:18
didn't have like a native uh still don't actually I don't think uh a native
3:23
podcast app so I grabbed whatever the free app was at the time and now I use
3:29
uh Podcast Attic which I think Doug also uses if you're on Android we definitely recommend that app uh I went ahead and
3:36
paid for it because I wanted to have all the features and none of the ads and uh
3:41
Doug is okay with it so I don't remember it being expensive
3:47
but I don't know how they they they monetize it now so that was 2011 20 2012
3:53
I think is when I started um and then and then I I I I chatted up with a buddy
3:58
of mine he's like hey what do you think about like cuz we have we would get together and we would just talk about whatever is going on that week we would
4:05
talk about um movies we'd seen we talked about TV shows and some some stuff about
4:12
the uh the news like whatever was in the entertainment news wasn't real big on on politics back then and I for the most
4:20
part really don't care but I do care enough that I I I definitely I
4:26
definitely vote I definitely vote uh blue and uh uh it's where we're going is
4:33
is not okay and um I I try not to think about too much because it would really stress me out yeah um with with the with
4:42
being ADHD we're we we tend to hyperfocus on things that are not good
4:47
for us so I I try to uh limit my exposure to a lot of those types of
4:53
things because if I if I hyperfocus on what he's doing right now I'm I'm not
4:59
going to end up doing well so um and of course you don't even have to say who he is for everyone to know who oh yeah I
5:05
think everybody knows I mean we're talking about the Tangerine musolini so
5:11
um clown stick V [ __ ] face or whatever John yeah uh I I all those but that is a
5:19
good point though that that you're not the politics guy I'm I'm a politics junkie every like I'm just I'm listening
5:25
to the majority report every day I used to live on MS NBC which I don't watch
5:31
anymore um but this I'm I'm the politics guy Todd's the podcast guy and we're
5:36
just kind of combining our powers to see what we have yeah so are you you said
5:41
you're also ADHD so have you been formally uh like diagn so I I I
5:46
described myself as neuros spicy I'm more of an anxiety issue guy I mean you'll probably hear some of that come
5:53
out in across the shows hopefully I get more comfortable hopefully we do this long enough that I get to get
5:58
comfortable um but I used to do standup comedy as you know yeah and Todd's Todd's also dabbled in standup as well I
6:05
I I I did a handful of times back in 2013 and then I tried again about six years ago and I I remembered why I
6:13
stopped doing it 12 years ago that is how we know each other yeah because I
6:18
used to I used to run
6:23
hello and I think we lost Doug Doug you still there each one
6:30
lasted a year um and so I'm pretty proud of that but then uh I got a real job and
6:36
stopped writing new material and when you don't have new material it's hard to get on stage especially when you're already anxious about it so we lost that
6:43
that was kind of my back we lost you for a second there um oh it it it tuned out a little bit but
6:50
you came right back and and and I think people got it for the most part that's that's I'm used to that people tune me
6:57
out yeah that's fine but uh yeah it's uh so yeah go ahead so
7:03
so Doug Doug KY he's like hey what do you think about doing a a podcast where we talk about politics is like well I
7:09
mean I I I I will share things that that either make me laugh about politics or
7:15
like make me like face palm or head desk one of the two and uh um I don't do a
7:22
lot of like deep diving as far as politics goes but yeah I'm good for you know talking for however long we talk
7:29
and and uh I'll give my my thoughts on on on stories that Doug brings up and
7:34
I'll see if I can find stuff to bring up I didn't I didn't actually look up any stories I just figure at the point that
7:41
it's my turn I just pull something out of my ass like I always do so so I and I
7:47
also like I'm kind of counting on you not necessarily knowing what we're talking about so that you can ask questions and then that'll prompt me to
7:54
to to give my take on things uh so I think that that will make for a good dynamic because if we're not if we're
8:01
we're if we're both like in our own little space as far as like politics go
8:06
there's more it would I think there would be more tendency for an argument to start up especially if that we think
8:13
the other person might be a little bit wrong um so that's probably a good thing yeah for sure
8:21
um and uh and then I guess on that note I did want to share that my principles
8:26
which I've been thinking about for a long time uh these are kind of my my political views and a it's distill down
8:34
to to five basic points and that's just so people can understand where I'm
8:39
coming from in a political sense because I feel like the world has kind of gotten
8:44
well not the world but America has kind of gotten off track in the way we debate
8:49
politics right we're we're either thinking of a strictly left versus right and and for me it's really more
8:57
about Corporation versus labor it's really more about you know the average
9:03
person versus people who never have to worry about anything and and I don't
9:09
necessarily want unnecessary things from my government
9:15
but I do believe I am what you may have formerly called a goooo I believe in good government and and I believe all
9:22
our problems with government stem from How We Do elections it stems from money
9:27
in elections it stems from how we vote it stems from the Electoral College essentially mandating a two-party system
9:34
that's that's part of my belief is we can never get out of the two-party system unless we have either an end to
9:40
the Electoral College or some sort of national rank Choice voting yeah rank
9:45
Choice M that's that's what they do in Australia right I don't know they do they started
9:51
recently doing it in Alaska and that's that's how the indigenous representative got elected up
9:57
there that's that's when they that's when you give like your top five people you want and as people are voted out you
10:04
just whle you Whittle down your list from five to one right correct yep and
10:10
and anybody who yeah if your Top Choice didn't go then your voices then then your V then your votes hello words um
10:17
then your votes get sent to your next choice until there's a majority winner
10:22
and yeah it it allows for third parties to exist because right now the Electoral College if you don't get a if nobody
10:30
gets a majority of the votes it goes to the House of Representatives and then Congress picks the president so you have
10:35
to pretty much divide into one of two parties to have a chance otherwise it's
10:41
just the otherwise it's just the house voting every time yeah so so with that I'll the these
10:47
are my five principles they are things I've been thinking about forever but but when I wrote them down it was kind of
10:54
spur the moment off the top of my head so these could be refined expanded on or condensed in no in no particular order
11:01
and and will be updated as needed yes exactly um so the first one
11:08
is I don't want the government to be any bigger than it needs to be to do its job
11:13
but it needs to be big enough to do its job so that means if you want big business if you want mergers and
11:20
Acquisitions if you want an Amazon to exist which I don't know that they need to but if that's what we're going to
11:26
have and certainly does exist now um you need a government that's big enough to to regulate a government that can't be
11:33
bought off by the corporations so a government that's big enough to do its job yeah um I also believe that everyone
11:40
should pay the same taxes on the same dollars now that does not mean a flat
11:45
tax it does not mean a flat tax it means everybody pays the same amount of taxes
11:51
on their first $20,000 they pay the same amount of taxes on their on their next $20,000
11:59
they pay the same amount of taxes on their $200,000 they pay the same amount of taxes on their $1 millionth and so on
12:07
it's just that that tax rate should go up as the money goes up and if I don't have a millionth dollar or a
12:14
$200,000 or a $100,000 to tax so be it
12:19
but if you do have that money we're going to tax it at that rate that seems fair yeah and part of the reason is a
12:27
consolidation of wealth leads to idle money and idle money is as bad as Idle
12:33
Hands in my book you have you have these billionaires that have more money than they could ever spend and they got to do
12:40
something with it yeah so what do they do they start buying newspapers they start buying television networks they
12:46
start trying to privatize space and and I just I don't think that's healthy for anyone I think it's better when
13:01
okay ownership run everything we lost you for we lost you there for a minute
13:07
go ahead and repeat what you said in the last 30 seconds what what was the last thing you heard um you talk oh god of course um I
13:16
don't know just the last 10 seconds or so did I get through all the taxes stuff I heard starting talking about
13:22
taxes so what I said was the I want everyone to pay the same taxes on the same dollars I heard you say that made
13:29
sense yeah um and the whole point is that whether you have if you don't you
13:34
know I want the taxes to prog I believe in if progressive tax rate just to put it as simply as possible Right but I I
13:40
and what that means to me is that everyone is paying the same taxes on the same dollars it's just not everybody is
13:46
taking in the same amount of dollars right um and then I mentioned this
13:51
before but I believe a lack of trust in government is a pro is a problem with elections not with government so you
13:59
hear people say oh Trump's in power now don't you wish don't you wish the government was less powerful and no I
14:05
don't wish the government was less powerful I wish we had better ways of electing people so people like Trump
14:11
couldn't buy their way into an election right we don't want the wrong people in office is basically what we're saying
14:17
exactly and I don't want to I don't want to kill our ability to have good government because we're afraid of who
14:23
might get in we need to make sure we have a good system of electing people
14:29
fourth principle is that personal responsibility means working together so
14:34
I this rugged individualism that America's often been obsessed with and associated with is is fine in a certain
14:41
sense like if you're going to go live in the woods and be off the grid and do your own thing I don't believe you should be bothered with but if you're
14:48
doing that so that you can start a cult and abuse children I I mean I think we
14:54
as a society have a duty to live together and work together I also think the most personally responsible thing a
15:00
person can do is to band with other people to create a better life for themselves whether that's you know I
15:08
think about like people getting if you want to go to like an old school analogy I think about like moving water from a
15:13
river to a village do you make everybody take their own bucket and make the Trek to the river and back to the Village or
15:20
do you start a human chain where everybody just passes a bucket along and it's and to me the more people there are
15:26
in the world the less everyone should have to work and the more free time everyone should have work smarter not
15:32
harder yeah exactly um there was a time in our not in our lives but there's a
15:37
time in the 20th century where people thought via the labor movement that that
15:44
uh Technology Innovation Automation and population increase was going to make it so that people didn't really have to
15:51
work more than four hours a day maybe even four hours a week um I've been I've
15:56
been listening to Thomas picky who's a French econ IST and um I think it's him that referenced the potential Zero Hour
16:03
Work Week where people would maybe log into a machine for like 15 to 30 minutes a day and that would be enough to do to
16:10
do the production that their Community needed um and so I I definitely believe
16:15
yeah work smarter not harder yeah I I never I never I never understood the you
16:23
know I work hard for my money I like why do you have to work hard to make money
16:28
you know if you if you can if you can get things done in in a in a way that is not going to not going to put you out as
16:36
far as your physical health or uh or or compromise your personal health in any
16:41
way sheap or form like people who did who did uh working in coal mines and stuff they inhaled all that [ __ ] and a
16:48
lot of them got cancer and died so I mean there's you know there's safety precautions for a lot of things like my
16:54
cousin Maryann her day job is she's like a like a safety person so she's that she's that that person who's always like
17:01
talking about OSHA and whatnot you know you need to wear this kind of mask in order to keep yourself from getting you
17:06
know getting ill and and getting cancer later in life or even in a few weeks or months even but yeah I just I never
17:14
understood they need the need to break yourself in order to feel like you've accomplished something exactly like the
17:21
whole point of working is so we can have a life our life shouldn't be dedicated to working it's and and I I'm kind of
17:28
I'm kind of IAL about this like Jesus said and also I believe King David
17:33
supposedly said that uh by the way I'm not sure if either one of those are actually historical but leave that for
17:39
another I don't think I don't think we are but I don't think it's even important so exactly but but but but
17:46
what they but what Jesus said what David said is that the law is here to serve people people aren't here to serve the
17:51
law and I feel that way about the economy yeah the economy is here to serve us we are not here to serve the
17:57
economy yeah and then lastly the last principle is is
18:03
and this is this is the bottom this is the base one this is the one that all the others are intended to serve
18:10
essentially and that's that everyone deserves to eat and to have a safe and
18:15
secure place to sleep that's just as fundamental as I can put it you know I I it's it's it's
18:23
weird to hear people say well they shouldn't have access to that it's like why I mean you don't think they deserve
18:30
uh a a nice warm place to sleep you don't think they deserve to have food
18:35
well they need to work for like everybody else it's like well what if they can't what if they're amongst the
18:40
people that are unable to do those things in order to to to get money to to
18:46
take care of themselves Hans Kim a comic I know uh he has a joke that perfectly
18:53
encapsulate what you were just saying and that's capitalism is great if you want to do it
18:59
but we don't make your grandmother play Call of Duty and then take her house if she
19:05
loses like capitalism is a game you still got me yeah yeah no I'm I'm I'm laughing that's that's great analy don't
19:14
Mo yourself if you're laughing yeah oh I'm not I'm I'm just trying not to like
19:20
over over uh saturate the microphone my my voice I will I will cackle loudly and
19:26
and the neighbors will hear me so I don't want to do that I forget you're yeah you're recording I'm recording in
19:32
the basement of a house I'm just probably waking my kids up as all um but yeah capitalism is it's a game of
19:40
money to make money and it's it's not necess not everyone is fit to be in the
19:46
battlefield that is capitalism yeah that that reminds me of a meme I once saw I
19:51
like so so what do you do like Oh I'm a model and it shows that she's like an Instagram someone on Instagram who's
19:57
always posting photos of themselves and like bikinis and what I was like oh yeah what do you do it's like oh yeah I'm a
20:03
I'm a veteran and it shows his like Call of Duty profile right
20:09
yes um and then and then in as so far as those principles go if you if you can
20:14
even really call them principles um but as far as those those goals go
20:21
um nobody's perfect I'm not saying that we're ever going to perfectly achieve or
20:26
strive for anything and that's why my ultim my my my ultimate lesson is the
20:31
Maya angelu rule which is you do the best you know and when you know better
20:37
do better I and so that's kind of what what I'm all about I think Todd's on board with that yeah that that that
20:42
sounds good what I would say is um I don't know if we're ever going to see a
20:48
rotenberry style future in my lifetime we might see uh um um and I'm
20:57
drawing a blank on the guy's name who who wrote 1984 but we're already there George Orwell Orwell yeah thank you um
21:04
yeah so or we're already in an orwellian future and we're you know uh I I saw
21:09
again memes I saw a meme a few years back of uh back in the70s 60s 70s and
21:15
80s people would be like no better not talk about that the government might be listening and and now we're like hey
21:22
government what time is it and then it shows Alexa responding so exactly
21:29
but no speaking of 1984 I had a funny exchange on Facebook the other day
21:36
um where somebody was they were somebody had posted about how Trump is trying to start a war with Canada right and yeah
21:43
and the post was just like Canada is our friends Canada has always been our friends they've gone into every single
21:50
any single boneheaded war that America's stumbled into Canada's been right there at our side they always have our backs
21:56
they always give us whatever they can I left exactly well now they are yeah
22:02
but uh but uh I I made I just made a joke that was it was a rep I just said
22:08
we've always been at war with Canada um I don't know if you're familiar with the line in 1984 where you know we've always
22:14
been at war with East Asia where it's just whoever we're currently at war with oh we've always been at war with them
22:20
the we've always the thing that I I I was trying to find an animated gift of
22:26
from the South Park movie when uh when uh Elon Musk said that Canada's not even
22:32
a real country and I was like they're not even a real country anyway um blame
22:38
Canada blame Canada yeah and that [ __ ] had Mar too
22:43
yeah it was funny though because I I said that line like we've always been at war with Canada just like referencing
22:48
that line from 1984 somebody replied to me like oh really like took it genuinely they're like oh really explain to me
22:55
when we've been at war with Canada always wa and then he did the gift of somebody sipping tea yeah and I was like
23:02
and I was like oh that was a reference to 1984 and he comes back to me going you
23:08
should check your history 1812 is the only time we've been at war with Canada and I was like no no dude no dude
23:17
the book not the year yeah yeah well and that's that's the thing though is you're you're getting to the age where you make
23:24
references to things that people don't know what the [ __ ] you're talking about because they're young and uh I I do that
23:29
all the time and I I look around and go hey that was funny right and everyone's looking at me like was that was that a
23:35
joke I'm like come on it's a pop culture reference folks they're like you know to
23:41
be fair that book is from 1936 it was old it's an old book to everyone you're supposed to read it in school I I never
23:47
read it I tried watching the movie and it was really slow um I've never I don't know if I've ever seen the movie yeah
23:54
it's it's it's got some that piss me off got it's got some it's got some recognizable PE people in it but I I
24:00
couldn't tell you their names yeah but yeah that book that was the first book to piss me off with the
24:06
way it ended I get it now as an adult but I read it in like seventh grade Humanities and and if you don't know
24:14
about the end of the book do you want me to spoil it for you go for it yeah because I'm never going to read it yeah
24:19
so so the whole book is this guy Winston trying to basically come out from the
24:25
the thumb of Big Brother Big Brother the government that monitors everything right yeah no I'm aware that much of it
24:32
but yeah yeah and you're supposed to love big brother like he want they want you to genuinely love big brother and
24:40
it's just ridiculous right like who and he's and he's fighting the good fight he uh thinks he finds a way into an
24:47
underground resistance but it turns out the resistance is just a trap to get people to get dis dis dissatisfied
24:55
people and and and send them to a reed a camp yeah and the ending of the book he
25:02
is literally walking out of his cell at like the rehabilitation camp and and
25:07
he's sort of going to escape I guess it's been a long time since I've read it but he gets shot in the back of the head
25:14
as he's walking down the hall and his final thought is that he finally loves
25:19
big brother oh wow and it's just it pissed me off so
25:26
much I was like oh CU I'm was a kid I'm like no the the hero is supposed to Hero
25:31
at the end there's supposed to be a happy ending that's what we've been told by Disney all our lives and and not only
25:38
does he die like he didn't even die for his beliefs he died and still loved big
25:44
brother at the end like he he succumbed and was killed it's that's it's infuriating but that was the point right
25:51
I'm glad I didn't finish watching the movie because I would have been pissed off too man especially if it ended the
25:56
same way so um yeah and I I wonder if I wonder if they had to redo it for
26:02
Hollywood I don't know I I think the movie is available on one of the free streaming sites I think I that's where I
26:08
watched it I think it was either on 2B or it was on Pluto one of the two or might have been is it an old movie or is
26:13
it something they it it actually came out in 1984 okay okay they they were on top of
26:20
that one they had 50 years like we're going to nail this yeah yeah I like I said it's it's got It's got some
26:26
recognizable people but I I the their names are escaping me right now like um I think I could be wrong you know
26:33
probably has kind of a let let me let me do this uh let me open up because I am on my computer I can I can access the
26:40
Google ner uh in it I'm I'm awarding myself
26:45
points 1984 movie
26:59
okay it's on Pluto TV right now um it's on it's on right now see
27:06
cast it has John Hurt uh okay that's a good that's a good one that's the one that's the one face I
27:12
did recognize I could remember his name um and then there's Susanna
27:19
Hamilton Richard Richard Burton Bob flat that sounds familiar rert
27:26
baderman uh Martha parsey uh Gregor fiser Roger Lloyd pack
27:35
uh Kina Sedin and if there any more oh there's a
27:41
bunch more um oh I reckon there's a lot of these faces holy crap
27:48
um let's
27:53
see Peter fry James Walker Anthony Benson John Boswell Shirley
28:01
stord Ste excuse me Steph Fox um we're not getting a Kyle M though
28:07
are I don't see Kyle no thanks for doing Noy
28:14
here you go speaking of South Park uh speaking of South Park uh I've made an
28:20
analogy now on the social medias a few times comparing what's going on with
28:28
musk and Doge or doggy Doge Doge I like doggy I think doggy's yeah
28:36
we should just call Silly we should just call it doggy yeah that's what that's what Heather Cox Richardson calls it by the
28:43
way uh for anybody listening if you want a historian's perspective on current events you can't do any better than
28:49
Heather Cox Richardson I'm GNA try and make as many referrals as I can to other shows that you should go listen to that
28:56
probably do this so much better than us but uh if if we can do one thing we can at least spread the gospel of of people
29:01
spreading uh good information on the internet and Heather Cox Richardson you can find her on Facebook you can find
29:07
her on YouTube she has a great substack um she's a historian that does basically
29:12
a then and now type of analysis and she also does Pol regular politics chats uh
29:18
if if this podcast ever gets to the level where we can talk to Heather Cox Richardson I will die a theatrically
29:24
happy man um awesome but but what I was getting at is is are you familiar Todd
29:29
with the South Park episode um our wacky molestation Adventure I is that the one where where
29:38
Chef joins the the stupid little group or is this a different one it's the one
29:43
where the kids realize that they tell the kids don't want to be bossed around by their parents they don't want to do their homework they don't want to their
29:49
parents yeah yeah and they have they have they just the MW and their parents get taken away and eventually they have
29:56
the whole town is just run by children so it's kind of a Lord of the Flies Lord the Flies episode yeah I do remember
30:02
that it's been a while but yeah I do remember that but I've been making the comparison to the what what we're doing
30:07
with doggy and musk as our wacky anti-government adventure yeah where you just say Dei or corruption and poof a
30:15
whole department goes away no more education no you know no more you can't you can't have anything that's you just
30:23
you just have children in charge and no one's right no one's being responsible and all it costs you is having to
30:29
sacrifice children to the provider which is basically what they've been
30:35
doing cutting off USA cutting off school programs it's it's uh it's disgusting
30:43
it's and it's just it's literally just claiming corruption without any evidence
30:49
and saying literally they had a a representative a Republican representative held a town hall where
30:54
she just said the spending is the corruption yeah so it's like anything the government does is automatically
31:00
corruption anything a minority does is automatically Dei I I look at it like this I anytime a a conservative person
31:09
starts screaming you know crying wolf or whatever I just I look at it like this
31:15
they they are they're exposing what they've done or what they're doing by blaming somebody else for doing this yes
31:22
every accusation is a confession with yeah it's it's projection and and
31:28
and I just every time I get into an argument with somebody they like you're just oh man I I I had the first time for
31:35
the first time in the last nine years of of seeing people like promoting or doing
31:43
whatever with Trump I have a uh a dark Brandon sticker on the back of my car
31:48
and somebody drove past me at the gas station goes I voted for for Biden like
31:55
Well w you're a smart guy aren't you so I was like how do you respond to
32:01
stuff like that I just like I didn't know how else to respond to this like I have never
32:07
been had anybody come up to me and like laugh at me for for having uh a
32:13
political sticker on my car that's actually the first one I've ever had though by the way and uh I figured it was hidden well enough all the other
32:19
[ __ ] that have on the back of my car that no one would even pick it up so
32:24
speak speaking of dark Brandon that's another good YouTube Chan for people to check out dark Brandon does they're
32:32
they're basically just him ranting I think it's all just him but he uses a different voice filter and cartoon
32:37
character for everyone so it kind of it kind of gives it a different Panache like he'll have Steve there's a great
32:43
video where he has a Steve Bannon AI voice talking about how Maga weaponized
32:52
stupidity yeah it's it's it's great dark there's a few people I follow on social
32:58
media I think both on Tik Tok and Instagram for like videos there's one on
33:03
Tik Tok that started doing like AI uh voices along with some AI animation
33:09
where it's basically you know calling people out for just like can I can't believe you guys are falling for this [ __ ] I mean it's right in front of your
33:16
face how are you okay with any of this and it talks about what whatever it is that there you know has got them enraged
33:22
and and it's but it's it's always a caricature of of of either Kyle or
33:27
Cartman from South Park and these rants are either Kyle's Voice or Cartman's
33:32
voice as an AI variation on it I'll have to I'll have to send you that I don't are you
33:39
are you on Tik Tok do you do you browse Tik Tok no so I I am one of those people
33:44
that like I was suspect of Tik Tok from the start so as soon as people started saying that like it's Chinese spyware I
33:51
was like no I believe that get I'm not getting involved honestly as soon as I heard the University of Washington
33:57
didn't allow employees to have Tik Tok I was like there's something to this and the reason
34:02
I was gonna say I think I think a lot of that is just because uh it's a platform that the government had no control over
34:09
up until recently they had no way of stopping people from posting things there was no there was no algorithm that
34:16
stopped people from sharing uh all this stupid [ __ ] that's uh that's being said by various people I'm not I don't know
34:23
if I necessarily want to say who but um just now now since they it went offline
34:29
for 12 hours and came back up the the platform is different it the algorithm
34:34
acts differently anytime I post anything that that mentions Trump or Elon they
34:41
they get no views zero zil or if they do get views it's it's it's it's I get I
34:47
get maybe at at most 25 views and no likes no no
34:54
comments my issue is just more with believe it's it's data all the apps are
35:00
data gathering information yeah but at least that are operated by American companies are subject to American
35:06
regulations I look Tik Tok was so I believe it or not Tik Tock is actually
35:12
an American company it has one or two of the owners are from China but they're
35:18
not members of the government um they they haven't been able to say that there that they don't
35:24
have an ability to monitor it though but I'll I'll tell you the reason why I was suspect of it from the start though and
35:30
that was I was a Vine user or at least I was a Vine Watcher yeah and they killed
35:36
off vine somebody bought Vine and killed it off Twitter did that Twitter did that
35:41
and then and then all of a sudden Tik Tok comes in to replace it and I'm like
35:46
this is this is weird like this is like they they have now we have Tik Tok why
35:53
what was wrong with Vine why did Vine lose popularity and now this is being pushed and I'm like and then they
35:58
started talking about oh well it's Chinese spyware and you can't use it if you're govern the people that were
36:05
saying it was Chinese spyware usually people from Fox News or any of the other variants no no no no no no before then
36:11
I'm going before this this is this is when Tik Tok first came out it was the University of Washington which is not a
36:18
right-wing think tank in any way shape or form absolutely is not yeah yeah and
36:23
they were the ones saying like our our employees were just just to be safe don't have Tik Tok on your phone on your
36:29
work phone yeah and I'm like that to me is enough of a red flag where I don't need it that was plus now I have YouTube
36:36
shorts and and anything oh having YouTube shorts is like having a curated version of Tik Tok like it's all the
36:42
best of I mean it's it's it's it does the same thing that real does which is like about a week a week or two after
36:49
it's it's gone viral on Tik Tok it's over on reals um exactly and I I look it
36:54
like this um I don't really care if they're data mining my information what
36:59
are they going to get from me uh I I don't have a job that requires me to to like have like VPN and all that kind of
37:06
[ __ ] um the other thing is that if the Chinese government really really wanted to have our data they could just buy it
37:13
from Facebook or Google and that's the thing is I do wonder I think there are more
37:19
regulations on that now there is definitely back Channel things uh we know what Cambridge analytica did with
37:25
Facebook user data through that study was Facebook where he was
37:30
harvesting dat forrid analytica to do basically to help get Trump elected that's I I believe that that's how they
37:37
targeted voters and everything so yeah that you're absolutely right about that I think it's it's it's it's I mean
37:45
calling it a China app is is uh is it doesn't do it any any disservice and
37:51
doesn't I mean it it it scares a lot of people into not going on there it's basically what that it does but if if
37:57
you really think about it if you really are concerned about like your data being mined then you shouldn't be on anything
38:02
on the internet period that's true I mean that is very you have to understand that if you're on
38:09
the internet and you don't have a VPN or a firewall of any kind your information
38:15
is is up for grabs period and that's yeah that's perfectly Fair yeah so we've
38:20
been at this for over a half hour now and we're still in our first segment so maybe we should it it this we could
38:27
easily talk for I mean we have only gone through half of the first uh
38:33
three we haven't even talked about the second thing on news this week we've only talked about I haven't even gotten
38:39
that far yet yeah that's what I say let's I think it's time to trans trans transition I think it's time to
38:45
transition into news of the week okay so the first story I got is is broke today
38:53
just just we're recording this on on the evening of March 2 4 2025 just for
38:59
posterity there right and of course the big news today is that the uh Trump's defense team basically the defense
39:06
secretary uh Rubio uh JD Vance the vice president uh
39:11
apparently Tulsi gabard who I believe is a Russian spy uh I have no doubt all on a signal chat together I saw that and
39:19
they just they they just happened to have a journalist from the Atlantic in
39:25
the signal chat group too and nobody apparently realized it and that's first
39:30
of all not supposed to be using signal not proved by the government that's that's akin to having a private server
39:36
yeah uh and then yeah you probably don't want journalists that you're not aware
39:43
of just randomly invited in now personally I would be okay
39:49
if if we uh had America a trusted American journalist in every Trump
39:56
meeting that would be fine but I'm sure with these guys they didn't even know and that's
40:04
the problem uh as far as I know maybe they're used to having an unknown number
40:09
as part of the chat group and they're just not supposed to question it because usually it's a Russians but who really
40:15
knows and so this is this is hilarious I like that the Ed he's the editor of the
40:21
Atlantic and he's just getting all these these texts and he's if he had been a
40:28
spy he would have had all the information if he had felt like warning the houy rebels he could have done so
40:34
and it absolutely jeopardized the mission and and mostly just displays their incompetence on top of that they
40:42
they they've gone ahead the Trump administ Administration instead of just deny deny deny like they normally do
40:49
they actually admitted it they tried to spit it that no harm came from it
40:54
but they actually admitted it admit it and I think this one this one seems to
41:00
have some legs I mean I think the groundwork has been laid to demonstrate that the Trump Administration is fairly
41:07
incompetent and full of DUI hires like Pete
41:12
headset and this I think this really is the the canary in the coal mine where
41:17
people go oh wow I guess it isn't just all he said she said
41:24
[ __ ] not not to quote LM biscuit to quote Fred Durst
41:29
yeah hey did you know that Fred Durst actually uh directed and wrote a horror
41:37
movie no I I I don't know that I have it stars John
41:43
Travolta oh yeah that's that's interesting that's I don't remember the
41:50
name of it but I'm sure if you do a search for John jolta and and Fred dur that'll come up yes I didn't mean to
41:57
derail that train of thought I just like no no that was perfect timing I was I was trying to I was trying to fill time
42:02
until you got back yeah I just so you folks know I had to step away to go use the toilet
42:09
so I was trying to keep that I I I well it's it's fine I have I have a tiny if
42:15
not transparent I have a tiny bladder so sometimes I need to step away um but yeah
42:21
uh so yeah I mean yeah the uh I saw the thing about the the the uh the uh the
42:29
chat text thing that uh that included the uh the you know the reporter and all
42:36
that and I'm like these are the same people that cried and bitched and moaned about
42:42
private email servers what the [ __ ] right which was always always it was always only ever an angle that's all
42:50
that was the stuff on Hillary the stuff on Benghazi yeah and it was just an angle to get people pissed off yep I
42:57
mean I I understand everybody hates Hillary I thought she would have actually been a fairly Progressive president for the exact same reason
43:04
Obama was actually kind of a conservative one because Obama got in and he was immediately he's a socialist
43:10
he's a he's a crazy liberal leftist and he had to spend his whole presidency
43:16
basically proving he was a Centrist and Hillary came in with all the with all the center all this center right baggage
43:23
and I think she would have at least spent her first four years doing truly Progressive things sort of how Biden did
43:30
with the infrastructure Act and the jobs Act and the inflation reduction act uh I I think she would have had to prove her
43:37
Progressive bonafides and we would have got good good uh Legislation during at
43:43
least the first few years and then and then it would have been a fight to hold her accountable and to drag her further
43:49
left but I think that would have been doable I I I think she was just biting her time to be that Progressive now
43:54
that's my wishful thinking maybe she just would have partnered up with the banks but when Obama brought in that
44:00
treasury secretary whose name's escaping me at the moment but the guy he brought in in 2009 and they basically bailed out
44:07
the banks instead of bailing out the people he created Peter teal he created
44:13
these guys that are now owning our government so I I do blame and I also if
44:19
we could if we just could have had eight years of Hillary and eight years of Barack we would have Supreme Court right
44:24
now and then we could really do Progressive stuff I I there this is a topic for a future show but I firmly
44:31
believe part of the reason why we don't get true progress from the Democrats
44:36
anymore is one because of 1994 when they when they had the they
44:42
passed the the uh assault weapons ban and lost the house for the first time in like 40 40
44:48
years um so they were terrified of that but Al and and the Reagan thing made everybody a kind of a corporate crap
44:55
yeah but in my entire life I 40 this year and in my entire life we have not had a liberal Supreme Court we've had a
45:01
supreme a conservative Supreme Court that would call anything truly Progressive unconstitutional and I
45:07
believe that's put a lid on things and I believe it's our turn to have the court back and that's that's really why I vote
45:13
blue no matter who is because we need a liberal court again so that we can have stuff like the loving decision like
45:20
brown V board we can have things sustained like the Voting Rights Act and the Civil Rights Act whereas the current
45:26
court has been stutting the Civil Rights and Voting Rights Act the current court has undone roie way and and I think
45:33
really the Supreme Court is the Ballgame and that's assuming we actually ever get
45:38
our democracy back and it's not just owned by this Curtis yarvin uh theorized corporate autocracy
45:48
which again that's all for a future episode yeah that's that's my little rant on that and and and now Doug gets
45:55
off his soapbox [Laughter] oh no we're on the soap box for this whole hour don't you don't you be
46:02
mistaken I'm just miss Howard we're probably gonna go longer than an hour because it's it's almost 50 minutes man
46:08
so I know I know which is fine by me I don't care it's fine with me you can
46:14
yeah you're the one that has to edit it yeah um so the the second story of the
46:20
week is uh Tom homman who is the uh is he the homeland security director the
46:26
Border Z are I me the borders are essentially yeah yeah law enforcement
46:31
officer and former acting director of us immigrations and Customs oh my God so when he when the borders are yeah he's
46:39
basically in charge of kicking out all the illegals or whatever the undocumented immigrants uh which which
46:46
is not even the case now right so this is what we're getting to is yeah is he basically
46:51
admitted uh today or whenever this interview was if it was today or yesterday
46:58
um that the people they're deporting haven't even necessarily committed crimes they're not even
47:05
necessarily uh here illegally they just suspect them of being in a game and
47:12
that's and they're not following due process and that's the problem if you have brown skin we're gonna talk to you kind of
47:19
thing well well one guy apparently got deported because he has a a soccer tattoo that has a crowd on it and they
47:27
say that the crown is is consistent with being in a gang they like the crowns and
47:33
so this that that's all that it made him and oh also that's like a generic a
47:38
generic gang thing is is a crown apparently at least for at least for this uh this particular game that
47:44
they're talking man I don't know if you heard my eyes roll back but yeah they
47:51
just and oh my God and and and they're not giving them due processes the big
47:57
thing yeah and I know people think that they're safe because they're citizens
48:02
they were born here or they were naturalized the thing is they said that
48:08
naturalization is is going to get reversed so and that yeah that's it's
48:13
just like I don't think he can do that but then again he he's not supposed to be able to do what he's doing now and he's still doing it he's defying court
48:20
orders to get people out of the country and really the point is just to terrify people so that people that aren't White
48:27
keep the keep either leave on their own or hide and don't come out to have to be
48:33
seen by by by his fragile white eyes um but without due process it could be
48:39
anybody because due process is the part where you prove you are a
48:45
citizen so it could be anybody if you don't get to if you don't get to do the part where you prove you're a citizen it
48:51
doesn't matter if you're a citizen yeah So eventually it's going to become
48:56
any dissident and that's that's part of why I want to do this podcast because like come come get me then like if you're going to go
49:02
over these people because you don't like them yeah I'm gonna make you not like me because I'm not gonna I'm not gonna sit back and just watch it happen let's be
49:08
real un unless we get really popular they're not going to come looking for us no I know we're both we're both uh white
49:17
men so we're we're not on the chopping block I mean I could be on the because I'm on disability but um uh that's I
49:25
don't know how far they are on that kind of stuff I hear stories that they're going to be they're going to be cutting
49:31
this uh uh Social Security which is how I'm able to pay my bills and everything so if that goes away I'm completely
49:39
[ __ ] yeah no I mean you're absolutely at risk of that and and it's terrifying
49:45
and it's it's awful yeah I I actively not I actively try not
49:52
to think about that CU I I I don't want to spend my whole day like stressing about something I have no control over
50:00
so but yes I I I could very easily uh uh pass in a Trump magga World right I am a
50:07
white CIS man I I I could absolutely just get by and go on my day-to-day life
50:14
and and if I had the ability to not think about things I I could do that but I I just can't I can't I think a lot
50:21
about that uh quote that's attributed to verder Herzog about America is coming to
50:27
grips with the fact that a third of their people would kill or Deport a
50:32
third of their people while the other third of the people just watch yeah and
50:38
and I know I'm not really doing anything when I'm just talking on a podcast but it feels at least I feel like I'm doing
50:44
more than just watching yeah and at least speaking out we're letting people know that you know there are people that
50:50
are paying attention and that you know I mean you more than me but you know yeah
50:57
so but you know yeah that's why I ROP you into here you're on the but yeah it's it's yeah no it's it's
51:07
it's um yeah it's anytime I I I go down the rabbit hole of of politics uh polit
51:14
political videos I'll I'll watch a bunch of them and then I'll get kind of like a
51:19
little worked up and like I need I need to go do something else for a bit because I don't want want to be thinking about this all day and uh cuz I just
51:28
fortunately for me I I at this point in time in my life I can do that so at some point it's probably not going to be easy
51:34
to do and I'm just going to have to be stressing all the time yeah yeah that's not fun yeah um last
51:44
topic for news of the week is turkey have now have you Todd heard about what's going on in Turkey I have not and
51:52
when I saw turkey like is he going to talk about sandwiches
51:59
actually yes no that's it's uh it pairs well with havari on a nice white bread
52:05
no um so so I I know I mentioned at the top of the show that this podcast was
52:10
going to be focused on both Washington State local politics which we really haven't gotten into in this episode um
52:18
and National politics yeah um so why am I talking about turkey because that's not either of those things um and the
52:25
reason I brought in Turkey is because what's happening right now in Turkey I believe is a blueprint for what Trump is
52:32
going to try to do in the next election oh man and so what's happening in Turkey
52:37
is they it so uh erdogan is the
52:42
president or premier of turkey and he's been in power there for for like decades
52:48
um in future episodes I will pull up tabs and have this information at my fingertips um so I can be a little bit
52:54
more precise but the important thing he's been in power for a long time yeah
52:59
and he they have an election coming up and the mayor of I believe it's Istanbul which is Turkey's largest company
53:06
speaking of Rob Paulson you may remember that Istanbul was Constantinople yeah yeah yep uh and uh the mayor of Istanbul
53:16
is his biggest rival and might actually win the presidency there so they have charged him with
53:23
corruption and terrorism and they arrested him and there are massive protests going
53:30
on in Turkey right now uh in in in objection to this and so this this is
53:37
why I bring this up is because when when I don't know who it's going to be if it's Bernie Sanders or if it's Gavin
53:44
Newsome hopefully not whoever the Democratic front runner is gonna be now they tried to do it with
53:51
Biden right they tried to get Ukraine to say oh we have corruption dirt on Biden so it's not like Trump is learning this
53:57
from Turkey I think tur I think turkey learned it from Trump but turkey is actually implementing it fully right
54:03
now and so I think we need to be prepared to understand that when Trump
54:09
when the Trump admin comes out and puts out charges against Eric swall well or whomever we need to know that they're
54:15
[ __ ] we need to be inoculated against the idea that these that they are real corruption charges or real
54:21
terrorist charges because this that's I think what they are going to do in our next election
54:27
yeah I'm assuming we have another election well I do anticipate that he'll
54:34
have some sort of there will be some sort of manufactured crisis and he'll
54:40
try to argue that we shouldn't have an election yeah my question is is he GNA wait for the next presidential election
54:46
or is he G to try and do it at the midterms so that he doesn't lose the house yeah I I remember when when he got
54:56
elected back in 2016 I'm thinking to myself this guy's never going to leave and he almost didn't he wanted to he not
55:04
to yeah and uh so and I was like and I was pretty confident that we were
55:10
getting he was not going to be elected a second time so when he when he won it I was just like that ruined the rest of
55:18
that month for me I just like no well it it ruined my view of the American people
55:23
because I was under the impression that he won the first time only because nobody thought he would win and a whole
55:30
bunch of people that might have voted just decided they didn't have to and it was they it's like oh Hillary's gonna
55:36
win without my vote and I would rather not go down as having voted for her so let's just sit it out I was under the
55:42
impression that if we had rehold the election the very next day that Hillary would have won in a landslide yeah but
55:48
but apparently I'm wrong about that either that or they really are cheating when Trump wins when Trump is on the
55:54
ballot I I think what happened was is they they they convinced a bunch of young people to not vote because because
56:01
uh the Democrats were in in uh in in in League with uh whoever is killing people
56:07
in the Middle East or in Egypt or wherever it is and then paltin yeah I I
56:13
I my brain is not braining right now so I knew that there was something happening after not guy but uh but know
56:19
people were like no I they're both bad I'm not going to vote for either one it's like if you don't vote for one
56:24
you're might as well just give it to the so it's exactly yeah and you you not
56:30
voting isn't possible because not voting is a vote in a way yeah it really is I
56:36
mean not voting for for for uh for Kamala uh excuse me
56:41
Kamala no you had it right the first time oh did I have it right the first time okay I I I never know if I have the right one um so Kamala uh Comm LA right
56:51
that's right um yeah it was funny somebody asked they posted a photo of a comma and then La that's a comma yeah
56:59
exactly that was a shirt they put out yeah um but so I was then she she did all she did this
57:06
this and this and this and this and it's like and uh she sucked her way to the top it's like ew no that's not how that
57:14
works you know it's just rumor nendo that's how they operate yeah and of course it's biting them now because you
57:20
sent me that leaked audio right of JD Vance yeah and I saw it all over Facebook today and it's fake I am pretty
57:26
sure it's fake but you know what if you create a world where it's just all rumor
57:32
and indu Endo to hurt your enemies this kind of stuff can stick back to you yeah
57:37
so if people want to believe the JD van stuff is real I will tell them it's not as far as I can tell it's not real but
57:44
go ahead and believe what you want because that's what Trump says you should do yeah yeah I mean I have no
57:50
reason to to not believe it but you know I mean if if if Trump supposed to say
57:56
all that's completely fake then I would absolutely believe it to be real um exactly you know uh so yeah I mean I I I
58:04
heard that audio like oh my God that is so funny uh they're they're fighting in
58:10
the white house it's so sad but um
58:16
yeah just like the couch stuff is supposedly fake but yeah we can still
58:21
have fun with it you know it's still it's still a a thing that's going to follow him him forever because of how
58:28
funny it is um and uh and and I I love I love that uh I'm I'm
58:38
I'm going on another side mission here um I love that uh that Mike Myers is
58:44
back on SNL doing impressions of of uh Elon Musk and yes he's it's great to see him
58:52
on SNL again um I've only seen the one sketch so far
58:58
because I'm not a regular SNL viewer anymore I'm not either and to be honest I I absolutely hated the rest of the
59:04
episode because it was that one uh [ __ ] right-wing comedian that that got fired from SNL like a decade ago um
59:11
after day one of being there I think oh are you talking about Shane Shane Gillis yeah dude he's not really right being
59:19
just just just to clear the air on that he's I I I he probably voted for Kala to
59:24
be honest um I I don't know that I mean he he he was he hangs out with right
59:31
Wingers like him and he hangs out with right Wingers yeah well I mean that I mean you you you hang around [ __ ] you're
59:36
going to get [ __ ] on you um and if you if you hang out with Nazis you're a Nazi
59:41
um so but he his his opening his his opening monologue he was doing all these
59:48
uh these jokes at the expense of the left he goes well I guess I lost everyone here I mean this is New York
59:55
and this is a very Progressive City and he continued with his dumb joke nobody
1:00:00
laughed didn't get any Applause all the all these skits were you
1:00:06
know were very funny for conservative folks is is is what I'm getting at so I
1:00:14
you know yeah you can say he's not he's not rightwing but he he came off as such
1:00:21
and uh if he wasn't he is now so fair enough and I will say it's hard
1:00:27
standup never seems to go well for the opening monologue of SNL I don't know
1:00:32
I've seen some pretty good pretty good opening monologues um his was just not funny it wasn't I mean I I was I kept
1:00:40
watching that episode because I was like um Mike is on the show maybe he'll show up in another skit he didn't he was only
1:00:47
in the opening sket uh the opening sketch which was um Trump and somebody
1:00:52
else talking and then elon's character shows up and he's all weird and you know SP right they were doing the recreation
1:00:59
of the with his kid in the OB office thing yeah or some other type of thing similar where he's just being a total
1:01:05
spaz and uh speaking of Elon uh so you know I was talking about
1:01:13
how turkey is sort of showing us a blueprint for what Trump's gonna do yeah guess who helped them
1:01:20
Elon so musk's X suspends oppos opposition accounts in Turkey mid civil
1:01:26
arrest so basically anybody in support of that mayor that's been arrested he suspended their Twitter their X
1:01:33
accounts I mean it's good thing it's good thing I don't use x anymore yeah speaking of X or speaking
1:01:40
of not being on X anymore we do have a blue sky you want to tell people about the Blue Sky um yeah if if you want to
1:01:45
follow us on Blue Sky it is uh just search for adhp is
1:01:52
adhp Attention Deficit Hyperactive Poli politics you'll find it I'm the one
1:01:58
who's posting on there although I'll probably give Doug access to it as well so he can also post on it but
1:02:05
um so far it's adhp pod. B sky. social yeah I mean if you just go on this on on
1:02:11
the blue sky and search for adhp you'll find it so it's or we can also it's it
1:02:17
will be in the link tree so if you want to click on the link tree which is uh link tree or yeah
1:02:23
link yeah link tree SL ADH D.S or you can go to
1:02:32
adhd.in it'll take you to the link tree and it'll be in there yeah and just to be clear that's
1:02:38
ADHD Ro but the show is adhp as in politics yeah yeah there's a
1:02:45
little bit of confusion there so yeah I at some point I'll I'll get a I'll get a domain for the podcast as
1:02:52
well so it'll be easier but we are part of the ADHD rocks Network which is
1:02:57
basically just our show but that's okay it it has history Beyond us that's for sure Beyond me it's it's it's it's
1:03:04
basically been my my uh handle for the past three or four years on on most
1:03:09
social social media platforms um I I bought the domain because I was going to
1:03:14
do an a podcast with somebody else and it was adult dudes having discourse and
1:03:21
uh which was like I thought was a that was a clever t on clever uh uh title and
1:03:29
uh but I have the domain and so I figured [ __ ] I'll just use that as as my uh is my handle for most things and and
1:03:36
I just I have it forwarding to my link tree and I put all the links to important [ __ ] on there and and um yeah
1:03:45
so yeah I we may set up a a uh specific
1:03:50
to uh the podcast on Facebook or something but probably not considering how
1:03:56
um most people don't like Facebook or anything meta anymore so that's one of the reasons when I went ahead and just
1:04:02
made it over on Blue Sky so right on all right so we'll move to our next
1:04:08
segment so we're gonna end the show because I know politics is so much fun we're gonna end the show with a pallet
1:04:13
cleanser but before we get to that um we're we're going to dive into some social media interactions um I'm going
1:04:20
to cut it down we're we're running long we're having a good time on this first ever episode um so I'm going to cut it
1:04:26
down to just one topic that I I feel like kind of sums up the right and the
1:04:32
reactionary type they're both reactionary politics with limited actual nuance and and so I'm in a politics
1:04:40
group I won't say the name of the town or whatever but it's a local politics group um that is pretty much all
1:04:47
libertarian and Maga or Maga adjacent people I seem to be one of the only
1:04:53
maybe the only or one of a handful of left leaning people in this group and
1:04:59
and so the discussion as it always does with these folks came up to the Second Amendment and Washington State wants to
1:05:06
Institute a permitting system which they're of course all up in arms about literally and figuratively um and after
1:05:14
I had this exchange with the gentleman about and it was a respectful exchange it was an educated exchange it was just
1:05:21
totally totally on the wrong side of thinking about things in my book yeah but this guy he came back to the group
1:05:28
and he says somebody shared with him so before I go actually before I go further Todd are you familiar without saying too
1:05:34
much are you familiar with the North Carolina governor's race I am not from this past cycle no so it was it was
1:05:41
Democrat uh Democrat uh Stein versus the
1:05:47
Republican uh I don't want to spoil this yet so you may have heard the story when
1:05:53
I get to it but first I'll tell you what this guy posted okay so he posts a clip
1:05:58
and the clip is a magad doodle clip which he tried to say please don't he's
1:06:03
like he says I just found this gentleman very compelling and just really broke it down in real life his support for the
1:06:08
Second Amendment he is genuine real and honest it is worth a watch and please
1:06:14
ignore the magad doodle on it I don't follow that the video was just sent to me and I found it compelling so this is
1:06:20
the kind of person that he finds compelling uh the the video is labeled best four minutes ever jaw hits the
1:06:27
floor as law-abiding citizen drops a truth bomb and it's a four-minute video of this guy going off at a town hall in
1:06:34
2018 about gun rights it just happens to be the guy who
1:06:39
was running for governor this past year his name is Mark Robinson and if that name doesn't sound
1:06:45
familiar maybe the story about the black Nazi does oh he he's the guy that it
1:06:52
turned out he had been on porn websites leaving comments about how he's a black
1:06:57
Nazi and and it was just all also all these vulgar descriptions of what he would do to his
1:07:03
sister-in-law and and all and it was hard to tell whether he was describing a real thing or just making it up for fun
1:07:10
but he literally talked about like how he would I'd have to find the actual quotes but he was he was talking he
1:07:17
called himself a black Nazi and how he would just freaking End people if he could and I just like this is your Guy
1:07:25
this is your guy that's compelling and honest and real and genuine and giv you the best speech on the Second Amendment
1:07:31
you've ever heard and he's the guy that calls himself a black Nazi like this is your best this are
1:07:37
your best and brightest and so that's that's the kind of stuff I deal I on the on the last
1:07:45
podcast I was on we talked about that dude yeah and uh and I do remember
1:07:51
hearing about that dude he uh something about him
1:07:56
like going on on on porn sites and leaving horrible comments and just yes
1:08:02
and then like oh that wasn't me that was that wasn't even my computer I don't I don't know what you're talking about you know kind of thing yeah and I tried to
1:08:09
call him out I was like hey this just so like I gave him the benefit of the doubt because the how he said he didn't know who this guy was it was just sent to him
1:08:15
I gave him the benefit of the doubt I was like hey you clearly don't know who this guy is here's the
1:08:21
backstory and then they came back to me with well if that's really true that unfortunate but you should just listen
1:08:27
to what he has to say like do you agree with what he has to say or not wow yeah I don't care I don't care what a Nazi
1:08:34
says exactly I said I'm sorry but I'm not debating the merits of the argument
1:08:41
for maazi and and that's when I received a private message from the admin saying that uh I
1:08:48
needed to learn how to play nice in the sandbox so so I guess instead of taking
1:08:53
them to task to their face or to their keyboards we're going to talk about them
1:08:59
as this podcast goes I I have been known to like uh look up things on Snopes when
1:09:05
people post things on social media when I know something is absolutely incorrect
1:09:10
I will find the story of someone who actually did the the the leg work of
1:09:15
finding out whether or not the information someone just posted is real or not I'll say hey snubs says that's
1:09:22
[ __ ] and here's why and they go well I don't believe what they have to say they're they're you know they're a li
1:09:28
liberal websit or blah blah blah blah blah I'm like they're not though they they they're nonpartisan of
1:09:36
anything so yeah I'm a I'm a I'm a petty little fact Checker I will fact check the hell out of everybody I I had I had
1:09:42
someone mad at me for like a week because I I called him out on [ __ ] it was something about uh um it was the
1:09:50
the covid stuff about like causing heart problems or whatever I was like people
1:09:56
who got Co who already had heart uh the potential for heart issues it just
1:10:01
became worse because of covid it didn't cause those things to happen it just made it worse quicker and they would
1:10:09
have had those issues later in life had they not taking care of themselves and and whatever else it just EXA
1:10:16
exasperated is that the right word it just made things work worse quicker than it would have naturally and they're like
1:10:23
no it's not true and I like well here's Here's the the story about how that is incorrect and they did all the work as
1:10:30
far as figuring out the sources of the story where it came from and why it's a thing and why it's incorrect and they
1:10:37
just kind of like you know arguing arguing with a person who is uh all
1:10:44
about Trump or is a qanon conspiracy theorist they are never going to believe
1:10:49
you even if you give them the the information that will educate them they will just say that's not real that's
1:10:56
fake news yeah and it's important to fact check it because they're leave the the
1:11:03
social networks are all leaving it to us now to fact check they aren't they aren't doing their own factchecking anymore it's all either a community note
1:11:09
or just holding each other accountable so that's what we got to do and I always strive for fact factual actual
1:11:17
information and not rumor and inuendo unless unless Trump wants to make that
1:11:23
game and we can have a good laugh at his expense yeah and the thing is is anytime I've ever posted something then I was
1:11:29
told hey that's incorrect here's the source of why that's incorrect I exactly I've been like oh [ __ ] [ __ ] I'll take
1:11:35
that down and I'll apologize like I didn't know I it looked real to me so I I posted it so yeah I'm not you should
1:11:42
never get upset if someone facts check facts fact checks you because the whole goal is to be factual anyways I want to
1:11:48
be right like that's my thing is I I just want to be correct about stuff and and so that yeah and so here here's
1:11:55
another example of stuff that gets posted to this group so mandated in Washington in just the last five years
1:12:02
uh comprehensive sexual education for K and prek AKA grooming kids and lying to
1:12:07
them about gender and then ethnic studies so really like the first one's
1:12:13
probably a misrepresentation of what's happening but but you if you took them on face value grooming kids and lying to
1:12:19
them bad but then ethnic studies lgbtq history what's why is that like that's
1:12:26
not why is that bad like so I understand why you think the first thing's bad why
1:12:33
is ethnic studies bad why is lgbtq history bad and and they say and and that's that's
1:12:41
just kind of where where and I I get I I kind of get where they're coming from in
1:12:47
the sense of like well I don't get what I where they're they're siloed in this
1:12:52
right-wing media Echo chamber Echo chamber and so they they get told but they just the lack of critical thinking
1:12:58
and the lack of crul or the the absolute credulity and the things they're told by
1:13:04
by their right-wing Talking Heads is just yeah it's insane it it it also like
1:13:10
one of the things that just like it made it made my brain hurt I mean I I legit
1:13:15
had like a a headache after listening to someone talk about stuff like that and I'm like this person I was talking to
1:13:22
went to college and they their one one degree away from getting a doctorate and they're talking all this [ __ ] I was like
1:13:29
how is it how is you're that college educated in mental health studies mind
1:13:35
you um and and you believe this stuff it just it it it blew me away like well it
1:13:42
makes total sense if you blah blah blah blah blah I'm like oh oh God I'm getting
1:13:47
a headache kind of thing and it was just like I mean
1:13:52
it's to be fair to be um that person um is my older sister and
1:14:00
she had been a part of a cult when she was a teenager I mean [ __ ] they didn't
1:14:05
they didn't call it a cult but let's be honest it was a cult the Cults don't call it a cult yeah you know uh it was
1:14:13
uh a a uh it's one of those churches that like wouldn't let women have a say
1:14:20
in anything they are just subservient types and whatnot so oh the back Southern Baptist uh worldwide Church of
1:14:27
God they were like oh okay they are very similar to like the the Jehovah's
1:14:33
Witnesses and that you don't you don't celebrate any holidays that have any kind of uh any any any ties to uh Pagan
1:14:40
rituals so no Christmas no Easter nothing and uh they don't do holidays
1:14:46
they don't do birthdays none of that [ __ ] so yeah and uh so yeah when when I
1:14:52
just like okay yeah this is this this tracks she she was in a cult when she was like 19
1:14:58
so yeah there you go well I think that's the perfect time to kind of go to a
1:15:04
pallet cleanser what do you think yes and I got the perfect one I just pulled it up on my on my Google uh like news
1:15:10
feed uh all right let's we're doing what's Geek this week what's Geek this week exactly I like that title um uh so
1:15:19
it was announced about a week and a half ago that The Goonies is getting a sequel
1:15:25
a sequel or a legacy reboot uh it is a sequel far as I know it says the sequel
1:15:32
uh what we know so far a goon sequel is on the way with one Hollywood icon
1:15:38
already attached uh it says here here's
1:15:44
everything hold on here's everything you need to know about The Goonies 2
1:15:49
including what cast members from the original have said about the upcoming sequel
1:15:55
um almost 40 years after the release of The Goonies a sequel is in the works at
1:16:01
this time it's not just a rumor Warner Brothers has has officially uh developing The Goonies
1:16:08
2 and has hired a writer and producer as reported by variety with the original
1:16:15
cast including Oscar winner Kei who I I I the guy who played data I can't
1:16:21
pronounce yeah I don't even know why it's read yeah yeah um he's awesome he's in everything yeah yeah yeah he's
1:16:28
[ __ ] awesome U Sean Aston who's Mikey um are all grown up there's plenty of
1:16:34
questions as to what form the sequel will take while there are still plenty
1:16:39
of unknowns regarding the project here's everything we know so far uh so far it appears that The
1:16:47
Goonies 2 is still in the very early stages of development as of February
1:16:53
3rd uh at the February 3rd premiere of Love Herz in an action film starring
1:16:59
goon's original cast member uh key um you know the guy played
1:17:06
data and and uh Austin neither actor was openly aware of the sequel as such not
1:17:14
many details have been released including the timeline to the uh the feeders which is going to be a few year
1:17:21
at least two years away guys easily um the the website backstage says that uh
1:17:28
movies take anywhere from 1 to 2 and a half years to make it could be that The
1:17:33
Goonies 2 is more advanced in development than we know but a release
1:17:39
date is probably a ways away I mean I'm I'm like I'm saying probably three years
1:17:45
unless unless they've been working on I I do follow the guy who owns the goon's house on social media it's hard to find
1:17:52
him because um at least at least on Tik Tok the Tik Tok seems to not want to
1:17:57
show you anything that says The Goonies so if you know the guy's name you can look him up and you can find them um uh
1:18:05
I can post it's it has a new owner somewhat recently right in the last year
1:18:10
in last in the last year and a half the bean is the guy's name and he bought the house last year and I talked to him
1:18:17
along with my former co-host from the last podcast I was a part of me and him
1:18:23
talk to Bean and he was talking about how they were trying to do a reality show where they did like they were going
1:18:29
to do like a um uh like a restoration of the house they were going to make it more screen accurate to the movie so
1:18:36
when people come to visit the house he can give them tours and stuff like that
1:18:42
um the last thing I heard as far as the movie um was like right before um Donner
1:18:48
died they were talking about doing a movie like 10 years ago uh and they were
1:18:53
talking about doing a a sequel and Cory Feldman was all talking about he's like this is going to be great blah blah blah
1:18:59
blah and uh U so it sounds like that it is definitely in the works it's probably
1:19:05
in the early stages I uh I did talk to Bean a couple like last week I actually
1:19:11
I sent him a message hey I've been hearing rumors about another movie coming have you heard anything cuz if he
1:19:18
if anybody would know if it was a real thing or not he would know because they're going to be using his house in
1:19:24
the movie and uh he said it is true and they are they are in the in the works of
1:19:31
of of uh creating another movie um and then I saw his most recent post uh
1:19:37
couple days ago and they're they're they're they're uh gutting the house and
1:19:42
they're like making it look like it did in in uh in the 80s so so you got it straight from the horse's mouth though
1:19:49
that's a that's a legitimate adhp exclusive yeah I mean I I I luckily for
1:19:54
me we were able to talk to him I might even be able to get him on here if you want but um we can do another another um
1:20:02
uh Zoom call or whatever but uh you know he was a super nice guy and he talked about how um he saw that the house was
1:20:10
on was in the market and there were some big names that wanted to buy the house
1:20:15
somebody in the cast wanted to buy the house he KN he wouldn't tell us who but he saids somebody in the cast wanted to
1:20:22
buy the house and um or it it could have also been the studio for all I know but
1:20:27
he said that somebody somebody involved with the original movie you wanted to buy the house and uh he got the house he
1:20:34
um been uh he actually doesn't live in Oregon he comes out to Oregon
1:20:40
like every once in a while if someone says hey we're going to be going down to to uh to uh the part of Oregon I'm
1:20:48
drawing on blank on the name right now um the town name atoria atoria thank you
1:20:53
atoria uh I mean if you are a8s movie fan you know that there's been a bunch
1:20:59
of movies filmed in Historia one being The Goonies and so he bought the house
1:21:05
and one of his neighbors is not a fan of all the fans because a lot of the
1:21:10
previous owner not a fan of all the fans I mean the previous owner was okay with
1:21:15
fans for a while but then the fans just the people that were coming to the house TR were were not being respectful of the
1:21:23
neighborhood or the or the property so people were like parking up on the on
1:21:28
the road and they were you know just standing in front of the house taking pictures and videos and doing Tik toks
1:21:35
and all kinds of stupid [ __ ] you know the Truffle Shuffle videos and whatnot and uh so since Beeman has
1:21:42
become the owner of the house he um he put up sign saying hey you know we like
1:21:48
the fans coming to visit but if you're going to uh come up park down here and
1:21:55
it's at the end of the driveway you can park here and walk up and be be mindful
1:22:00
of the other people's who live in the in this on this road not Everyone likes you
1:22:06
know their yards being trampled on and don't go inside inside the yard if no one's here you know if he goes if I'm
1:22:13
home I will let people come in they do have to do the travle shuffle before they are are allowed to come in the yard
1:22:20
as per the movie and uh uh but you will you'll get a a personal tour from him if he's home
1:22:27
if he's at the house you'll get a tour although if they are if they're doing renovations on the house are probably
1:22:33
not going to be doing those anymore for the foreseeable future um but yeah the
1:22:39
The Goonies to is a thing I I personally hope that um we get to see either the
1:22:47
kids or the grandkids of uh the original kids from the movie The Original Movie
1:22:54
um and having maybe maybe having Mikey come back to Historia because um Mom and
1:23:02
uh mom just died or dad you know Dad the guy who played the dad died in like the 90s I think so we we wouldn't have that
1:23:08
kind of story but um so yeah I just I was you have the adult kids and then their children
1:23:14
probably I could definitely a stranger things style in fact I wouldn't be surprised with with Sean ason involved I
1:23:21
wouldn't be surprised if some writers from from stranger things maybe involved that'd be amazing especially that
1:23:27
production team especially if they found another map or there was or they're in a
1:23:32
different part of the world if if it's if if the if uh Mikey and his family are
1:23:39
living in like uh I don't know some other part of of of the country and they
1:23:45
also find a similar type of story where it's a different pirate or you know
1:23:51
maybe maybe they moved to the Caribbean who knows I don't know I I'm excited do
1:23:57
a crossover Johnny Depp's going to show up yeah Johnny Depp shows up he like are you one I wiie no no that's what that's
1:24:04
that's my Pat name for my penis you know but uh but uh no that's when I saw that was
1:24:12
one thing I did not want to think about tonight try Depp's penis yeah yeah just just for tonight it's
1:24:19
every other day I gotta yeah yeah yeah yeah I mean I mean I always think about that not right not really but yeah no
1:24:26
get huh I was gonna say get your get your baby rots ready right uh why is the
1:24:33
rum always gone um but yeah no I saw that and I was like oh [ __ ] sweet this is really is real and this is
1:24:40
happening and when when he it took him a little while before he responded I I messaged him right right after I saw the
1:24:47
original article like weeks ago and then like two weeks ago I got a response from
1:24:53
he he he always he always starts a a message with hey you
1:24:58
guys and then uh of course you have to yeah so yeah um well I'm really glad you
1:25:05
chose that because The Goonies was a super influential movie for me I so for
1:25:10
those uh there's about what like a 10 year age difference between us yeah roughly I I'm I am I'm gonna be 54 in
1:25:19
September so I don't know so a little bit more than 10 years yeah because I'll be 40 in October
1:25:25
um but so I Saw The Goonies when I was super little like it basically came out
1:25:31
when I was one and I saw it on TV or something when I was like three or four
1:25:37
and that movie is when I have an adventure Dream It's
1:25:43
like set in the Goon it looks like The Goonies like that movie terrified me as a kid yeah and like I watch it now and
1:25:49
it's just kind of silly and fun but as a kid that scared me have you ever have you seen the uh the octopus
1:25:57
scene I've seen the whole movie but the the the version of the movie that is on
1:26:03
television unless unless I think there was one time it was on HBO they had the the scene with the octopus there is a
1:26:10
scene in the movie that is not maybe maybe there's an even scarier version I could have gotten the there's there's a
1:26:17
and I remember seeing in theaters when it first came out so it was like 85 84 whatever it was and uh when they first
1:26:25
go into that cave and they are underwater and
1:26:31
uh yeah they're uh in that sequence where they're in the water and they turn around they see they see the uh the
1:26:38
ship they uh there's a whole sequence where one of the the kids is being
1:26:43
attacked by a giant squid or octopus or whatever this sounds familiar it's it's
1:26:49
been so long since I've seen it it's a bonus it's a bonus feature have memories around it so there f it's it's it's a
1:26:55
bonus feature now so um yeah so yeah we should absolutely get
1:27:01
this wrapped up because uh um Bluetooth headphones only work for yeah my
1:27:06
headphones are dying so I guess that that sets the limit on this at around probably fair enough
1:27:14
uh but this this went great yeah yeah I mean this this is about normal for a
1:27:19
podcast with me anyhow hour and a half that sounds about right so we're going to I'm going to do some post editing
1:27:26
we're going to take out a couple things and I'll add like intro and outro music and that kind of stuff so you'll hear all that and and we'll
1:27:35
[Music] we'll
1:27:40
fting child turn the volume up take a
1:27:49
ride in this crazy storm I can't hide
1:27:55
I
