Hey E36 Fanatics, Steve here. In my last video I repaired the the recline gear in the front driver's
0:12
seat on this E36 and I mentioned that I was going to do something on the passenger seat so
0:18
today I am repairing the passenger seat and that issue is this. So normally you play with this
0:27
supposed to be you're supposed to be able to fold up the chair um however literally just one day when
0:36
i did that when i did this to fold it it just stopped working so what i'm gonna do is apparently
0:43
you can do this repair from just sitting in the back seat and doing it that way but it's so easy
0:49
to take these seats out like really there's no reason not to just pull out the whole seat
0:54
and do it that way. So that's what I'm going to do. Like I said, there's only four bolts
0:59
two in the rear, two on the front, and then some wires. I'm not going to video that again
1:04
I'm just going to put it, I'm going to put that video from the last repair in the top right corner
1:10
and that shows you how to pull the seat. If you want to see that, I'll start videoing this when
1:16
I'm pulling out the back portion. All right, first things first to go and do this repair
1:22
we're gonna pull off the headrest really easy pull it up real quick and that the
1:31
easiest thing to do in the world all right next thing we got screws little
1:36
torx bit I think these are 15s but I'll confirm here in a minute it's two of them
1:41
at the very bottom all right like I said this is just the t15 torx these
1:49
screws so we'll go ahead and remove these and then we'll pull off the back
1:56
Alright so before you pull this sucker you got to pull out your levers on either
2:04
side and they actually really really easy to pull So you take a screwdriver twist it get a hand on it and that it
2:25
Alright, now your two levers are out. Now you've got to pull out this plastic cover
2:30
Now you gotta be careful Because it is quite flimsy So you gotta get the top
2:39
And then You wanna go ahead and get the bottom There you go
2:47
And now that's out Like I said you wanna be careful with it though
2:52
Because they are kinda flimsy There we go And Look at that
2:59
that's it super easy to do now on some model bmw e36s the older ones it's a little bit different
3:09
how to pull it pull the back cover but i mean it's pretty much the same thing it's all pretty
3:17
similar literally the most common and obvious replacement on these things is the bowden cable
3:25
which it runs all the way from the top up here where your latch
3:30
where your latch controls this and then it runs down to here
3:39
and all the way down into here so here's the Bowden cable
3:48
and I didn't even do anything I just pulled on it and it came all the way out and as you can see
3:56
it's frayed at the end and that's where it's gone bad so it's pretty much it snapped so what I'm
4:03
gonna have to do is I'm gonna have to get another Bowden cable which you're gonna be amazed at how
4:09
ridiculously expensive these things are because I think they cost like 50 bucks which is nuts So here you can see where it broken off The wire broke off right here So you can just pop this out with a screwdriver This is where it typically
4:26
break off at. And there it went. So now I'm pulling it through. I'm going to pull it through
4:34
the bottom. It seems to be the easiest way to go. So I've pulled it down and I undid this
4:43
leather right here. It's just got these two pieces that are holding the leather
4:47
in. I pulled that back and looks like there's a zip tie down there. It's holding
5:00
this wire in. So I'm gonna cut that zip tie and hopefully it'll pop right out
5:04
And there's the end of the piece right there. To make this a little bit easier, I'm
5:09
I'm going to go ahead and pull this kick plate. It's a T30. Let's turn it out
5:16
Okay so here's the new one. As you can see it's got the end piece attached to the wire
5:27
which was the issue. It snapped right at the end piece and you can see the old one right here where
5:34
it snapped at the end this is typically where it snaps so I got this from the BMW dealership
5:44
because they I was able to get it quickly from them and I looked online and they were all about
5:49
the same price so they're expensive in my opinion they're like 55 bucks for this new thing just to
5:55
fix your latch but hey whatever. So now what I need to do is I need to thread it
6:05
back through and I'll put the kick plate back on and assemble everything back
6:10
together There we go I got it through So now I just gonna want to get it back to here Okay so now I reinserting everything
6:35
Got the piece back into the tab here. And let me see
6:45
Now I'm going to go ahead and lock it back on the joint there. Put the clip back on
6:52
Okay, so I got the thing back to working finally. It took me forever to do this, and the reason is, if you can see that blue right there
7:08
that is electrical box plastic that I cut and glued with, used some Gorilla Gel glue
7:18
the 10 second stuff and glued it to the side of this and glued basically one of the plastic tabs
7:24
broke and i don't feel like buying any more parts for this one stupid lever so i went ahead and glued
7:31
everything together and it's holding so hopefully it'll hold well the glue's probably still drying a
7:39
bit so i really like gorilla glue so now you just got to put back on the plastic put back on all your
7:47
parts and then put the seat back in and you are done and I'll show you how it works at the very end
7:55
all right guys typically if you don't run into any issues and you got your part already sitting
8:01
there this should take less than an hour another tip for y'all you know while you're doing this
8:08
and you got it out or something you might as well spray your rails down when you pull it out you
8:14
know pull this plastic piece and this stuff let's go ahead and give it a try
8:20
here it is and sweet once again it is working thank God so I hope you all
8:31
