Hey, this is Steve at E36 Fanatics, and today I'm going to show you how to remove a shifting assembly module on a Mercedes-Benz E430 W-210 body
0:23
Now, it's pretty straightforward in general. However, you do have to remove the compartment
0:29
the armrest compartment first. It's pretty straightforward on how to remove though, just a few Phillips screws
0:36
and I'll include another video on how to remove that prior to removing this
0:42
Now, once you get that off and everything, and I removed all this
0:46
but that was for something else, and you don't have to do that. You just have to remove this arm compartment right here
0:53
So once you get that off, you have a couple bolts holding
0:59
this down basically. And the first two that I removed were this one right here and then this one right
1:09
here. And these are size five, I believe, hex bolts, pretty quick to take off. And then once you get those
1:19
and I actually didn't even have a socket for it, so I used one of these and I just put a breaker bar on
1:24
the side of it and turned it that way. So then you've got these
1:29
little things which I've never I had never used before prior I'd never seen these
1:35
kind of bolts prior to doing this job right here and they're basically they're
1:40
called anti-lock torx bolts and they look just like this you see in their
1:49
regular torques screws bolts basically but they have this big hole in the middle for them so I don know why they do it but Mercedes has these so I had to buy some new tools at the AutoZone store
2:05
And this size, these stars, star bits are T-25s, and you just remove all four of these
2:15
here, all four of these stars. Okay, so another thing, you got your actual shifter link right here, and it's actually really easy to pull out
2:29
So it's in here like this, and you basically just turn it right out
2:36
You just turn it, and it comes right out. So then I forgot one other bolt, which is back here
2:43
It's right back here. It's a size 5, too. and then you
2:48
let's see and that should be it right there just that size 5
2:53
last but not least when you're pulling this shifter out you've got
3:02
a piece you've got a linkage attached to it the actual transmission link
3:09
which is right here I've already dropped it and you've got it held on by
3:14
a clip right here So what you gotta do is once you got all the bolts off and you've got this off, go ahead and lift it up and pull it to the side a little bit
3:25
You can see the clip. And I just took a pair of needle nose pliers and took the clip and pulled on it and you got to really, you got to fight with it for a bit
3:37
Once you finally get it out, you just pulled out and the whole metal shifter comes out with the rest of the assembly
3:45
And that's how you do it. Hope this video helped. Please like, comment, and subscribe

Thank you very much. You all have a good one
