Hey, this is Steve at E36 Fanatics, and today I'm going to just show you how to remove the airbag and the steering wheel off of a Mercedes-Benz W-210 body
0:23
Now ignore this, all the paneling and everything. I'm just, that's another thing
0:29
I'm removing. If you saw you in my older videos, I'm removing everything off this car
0:35
But anyways, so first off, to remove the actual steering wheel, and I already pulled out
0:41
the airbag, but I'll show you how to do it. You have to actually remove the airbag
0:46
And the airbag's pretty easy to remove. You just have two bolts. You can see them now that I pulled them out, one right here, and one right here
0:55
And you don actually when you turning them out you don actually remove the bolts They don come out You just pull them out as far as possible turn them as far as possible And then your AirBot bag will basically just come right out like mine did
1:09
Then you have this sensor in the very middle of the air bag. And then this sensor on the end of it
1:16
Here's what the back of your air bag looks like. And let me see
1:22
You can see where it's bolted in here. and here, and that's only two spots that's bolted in
1:29
Now, the only thing is, though, the holes, the access that you got on the back of the steering wheel to get to it is so small
1:38
that I was not able to use a regular socket. It's a T-27 socket
1:46
So what I did is I took a hex tool, which is somewhere around
1:55
I just took a Torx tool I had to buy it from AutoZone I think it was bucks for a kit of them They good to have anyways So I took my T hex tool and popped it in there and was able to get it out
2:12
The other thing is, before you start this, you're going to want your steering wheel as far forward as possible so you can get clearance to move in your hex tool
2:21
I got lucky and I was removing this anyway so I could pull it out of the way and just I had way to
2:27
enough, easy enough clearance to do it. But for you, since I'm sure you don't want to remove
2:32
your paneling and everything, you're going to want to move this steering wheel up. So just move it up
2:37
as far as possible before you do it, and then remove the cables from your battery. Let it sit
2:44
for 15 to 20 minutes before you start messing with this. It's just a safety precaution so your
2:50
airbag does not go off. So once you got your airbag off, you can remove your steering
2:57
wheel which is also pretty easy to remove So you got this bolt right here which is a hex bolt I forgot what size it is but it really big
3:09
And what I did, because I didn't actually have a socket for this
3:15
and it's got a lot of torque on it that you need to put on it. So I rig something up that I've done before
3:21
I took a small a small breaker bar and just put a
3:31
10 millimeter a 10 millimeter socket on it and I put it right
3:38
onto the onto the hex and I just turned it out and I just kept bumping against it
3:45
and eventually it broke free and that's just a really easy way to do it
3:49
if you don't have a socket for this size hex, but you do have a breaker bar with a 10 millimeter socket, which most people are going to have. And most people are going to have a hex toll, too
