Hey E36 Fanatics, Steven here. Today I'm doing a video on a power window repair on my brother's 318 I. I'm doing a lot of power. I'm going to do two or three power window videos in the next week or so. Both of my brother's vehicles power windows need some work. So the first one I'm doing is on my brother's 318 eye. The issue with his is kind of is was kind of really obvious
0:29
to me. The door panel's still on it, but I'm going to pull it here in a little bit. And the reason
0:37
that's kind of obvious to me is that when I press the button going up and down, the window
0:43
doesn't move at all. But I can hear the motor and the regulator moving around. Not only that
0:51
and here's the kicker, my little brother's been moving the window around manually, basically
0:58
to when it's raining outside, he raises the window up all the way
1:03
and then when it's not, he'll lower it to get some air falling through
1:07
So that tells me pretty much that the regulator's not attached to the window at all now
1:13
So I'm going to pull off this door panel, and then I'm going to show you all the process
1:19
if that's it, putting back on the regulator and everything. Also, I'm back to put posting videos every week
1:27
So if you want, subscribe to my channel. I post different repair videos every week And check out my link in the top right to my new blog Beamer Craze I do different articles and posts there every week on different issues of BMWs
1:45
This one, once I pulled the panel, it was pretty obvious what was wrong
1:50
The regulator had slid off of the plastic pieces, which are located right here
1:58
They had just cracked over time. so both both because there's two of them there's two ends like this on the regulator
2:06
they're both off so basically the window's just free floating here I can pick it up
2:13
and move it around so what I'm gonna do I've got I've got some sliders handy from
2:23
another window actually then I'm gonna clean up and I got the clips and I got
2:29
I got this one right here and I got another clip. So I'm going to throw these onto the regulator and then hopefully it'll start working again
2:41
Here's basically my donor regulator from another BMW that I had. So I'm just going to pull off the clips on this one and use it for this regulator right here
2:55
So as you can see, windows just free floating right now. Regulator's not on it at all
3:02
Okay, so once I'm done, kind of getting it set up, I use silicone lubricant on the guide rails
3:10
This kind of just helps those plastic glides last longer and the regulator and everything overall
3:21
So with this putting the regulator back on, the hard part is getting this second one on right here
3:28
Once you got the second one on, the first one's pretty easy
4:23
Okay, so I've got the clips back in and the white sliders back in
4:30
So that's good. And when you're doing this, sometimes people have trouble with these regulators making sure
4:38
that they're, or maybe they're popping out or something after you put it in
4:43
Usually the culprit is you haven't put these ball joints in far enough into the slider
4:47
and the clip on If you got the clip on man it really tough to see that tough to see that one got to see it right back there if you got the clip on man it really tough to see that one You can kind of see it right back there If you got the clip on and everything they shouldn be able to break out unless they break the whole clip and everything
5:02
Another issue is, see, on this vehicle, it was really quick to do this because the window and not falling out of the slide, the guide rail here
5:14
Or in the front, you see this one right here. this one right here where the windows got to go into slide into. So it had not fallen
5:22
out of that. It had just fallen off the regulator. So this was actually a pretty quick job
5:27
once I got the door panel off to do. So while you're here, always, always, always use some
5:34
sort of lubricant. This is silicone spray lubricant right here. I love this stuff because it lasts
5:39
a long time. I sprayed the crap out of the guide rails right here or the window rails here
5:46
and the second one right there. And then this main guide rail right here
5:53
And then also right here the teeth that go to the motor
6:00
And then finally this pivot point right here, I try and spray the inside of that
6:06
That's where it pivot's on, so. And then once you're done, the only thing left to do is you might have to realign it
6:14
or you might have to reset the window so it'll fit to the right position which is real
6:21
which is pretty easy to do hope this video helped out a little bit if it did please
6:26
like and subscribe thanks a lot and y'all have a good one
