Hey, E36 Fanatics, Steven here. Today I got a quick video on a really quick replacement on the fog lights
0:08
This is a 95 BMW 318 I, but they're all set up the same
0:12
They have a little spring at the back of these fog lights that holds them in
0:17
All you got to do is take a screwdriver or this tool right here, which is found in the trunk in your BMW
0:26
you in an 836 if you still got all the tools in the back it's sitting in your little toolbox
0:32
so there's a little space right here for you to stick it in and you want to go at a really sharp
0:40
angle and you'll feel it and then just give it a little force and it pops right out and then obviously
0:49
it's just got one wire holding it in and the reason I'm placing these is they're both cracked
0:56
and just looking inside the headlights are torn up too so and this one's even worse my brother was holding this one on with tape so definitely time to replace this as well
1:12
so the new ones i got are a little bit different because they've got the end going on the side instead of the back but should work just fine
1:20
and all i've got to do is plug some new light bulbs in them and uh i'll be good to do to
1:26
good to go. Okay, so installing new fog lights is really easy
1:32
You got your clamps that are probably gonna be locked in like this if you got a new one So all you do
1:46
get both of them out and pull them up. All right, these lights only go in one way
1:52
So once you got it in, and like I said, they can only go in one way
1:59
Go ahead and secure your clips. Then you got to hook up your actual connector
2:12
So the big one, obviously it's gonna go onto there
2:25
Second one, your ground, gonna go onto there. go on to there like that
2:38
Then you're just going to want to lock it in. Okay, so if you need to replace these brackets
2:46
like this one right here, this one's broken. It's really easy to do
2:50
It's actually only two screws holding it in at the top and the bottom
2:54
and you need a Phillips head. So here's the two screws, this one right here
3:00
then one you can't. can't see but it's right it's uh right right there just go get those two and
3:09
that pops right out and here the two new fog lights look a whole lot better than they did I changed one and then I wanted to go ahead and try the light to see if it was working and it not working
3:25
So the next thing I take a look at is the fuses over here
3:30
And for the front fog lights it says it's 15 and 22
3:36
I already pulled 15. That one looks okay. Then I take a look at 22
3:43
somebody put a 4 amp fuse in there. Take a look back here on 22 and that's supposed to be a 5 amper
3:52
So I'm going to pull that and see if that's bad and change it to a 5 and maybe that'll be my issue
3:59
So messing around with your fog lights is pretty easy because there's not that much that goes into it
4:05
Basically you've got your fog light button and then you've got a
4:12
a relay which is this one right here that's your fog light relay and then you've got a wiring
4:23
harness that basically leads to your headlights and your fog light on this side and then goes up to
4:29
your other fog light over here so there's a couple of different things that could go wrong first off
4:34
something to know is if your low beam headlights are not working or one of them's out that can cause your
4:41
fog beams not to work as well because if I recall they run off of your
4:46
of your headlights so if your headlights aren't working or one of them's not
4:50
working your fog lights aren going to either okay so got it out so one of the issues you can have is if you see this wiring right here you can see that it quite frayed on the end This is usually sheathed at the end over here
5:05
but it is not. The plastic is broken down. So if the wires have gotten oxidized over time
5:13
the wiring on the end of this right here or go into this connector, that could cause it not to work
5:19
So, you know, it definitely looks like it's worn. But then I take a look at my connector on this new fog light
5:28
Like I said, cheap Chinese knockoff and look at it. See the two connectors in there
5:35
How pushed in they are. Now we'll look at the used ones that we pulled off
5:42
See how far out they're coming out? That's probably the issue right there why this one isn't working
5:49
However, these are pretty nice. you know, they're shiny and everything, and this is not
5:58
So what I'm going to do is I'm going to try and switch out this connector for this shitty one
6:08
Well, guys, the connectors on the new fog light assemblies ended up being the problem
6:17
Unfortunately, currently his car has another problem with it, so it's not starting right now
6:24
so I can't show you all how bright it is. But I hope this video helped y'all out with repairing fog light assemblies
6:31
They're really not very difficult to do once you know what you're doing. And I hope you all enjoyed the video
6:37
Y'all have a good one
