This Is Not A BlackBerry...
Nov 9, 2025
The Unihertz Titan is a rugged Blackberry inspired Kickstarter smartphone. It packs a physical keyboard similar to Blackberry devices of the past. Unlike Blackberry however Unihertz has focused on durability turning the Titan into a tank. I don't know what this is
0:03
I swear to you that Will Do just said to me, This is really cool
0:09
This is the greatest thing. You have to make a video. It could go either way
0:14
Alright, we're in it together. Nonetheless, all I see is Titan. 4 plus 128 and then a couple of IMEI numbers
0:20
So I can actually gather a little bit from that sticker. It's going to be a phone called the Titan
0:24
with 4 gigs of RAM and 128 gigs of storage and it's got dual SIM card slots
0:28
because it has two IMEIs. Is that right? You think I nailed that? I don't know. Maybe not
0:33
Also, the stickers say Unihertz, so that's the brand that it's coming from. Let's see
0:37
Is it the greatest thing ever? That's the way Will presented it to me. Greatest thing ever in Unbox Therapy
0:41
My new favorite video. My new favorite phone. Let's see if he's out of his mind, which he probably is
0:46
Oh, my goodness gracious. That's hilarious. You know what, Will? I'm happy you brought this forth
0:51
because that is bananas. It looks like the passport. It's a tank, though
0:55
It's huge. Oh, man. Look at that. fat boy right there sheesh whoa this is a throwback but it's also just bizarre frankenstein style in
1:07
general usb type c on the bottom there's the camera on the back audio jack at the top headphone jack
1:13
it's got the weight of like three smartphones because of the aspect ratio the screen is almost
1:18
square i thought that might be a space bar that's not even a button right there we have a power brick
1:23
and a type c cable and that's that what do you say should we get will in here this is his vault
1:27
best value 2019 this is his vote uh better value than a oneplus this is his vote better than the
1:32
note 10 and note 10 plus for half the money this is his vote he'll never buy another iphone
1:37
that phone looks bigger in person all right well take it away it's uh octa-core two gigahertz
1:45
it running android 9 all right that something that one has six gigs of ram ours It four Will Oh You spoofing me I a bit down You spoofing me
1:59
What's good about this is a 6,000 milliamp battery, so it might last quite a while
2:05
It has a fingerprint front-mounted sensor. That's what that is. Yeah. That'll work
2:10
IP67 water and dust proof. You can beat it up. Mm-hmm. The display is square, 1440 by 1440
2:17
Yeah. How weird is that? So this is your next smartphone then. I might give it a shot. What
2:23
I actually never owned a Blackberry. I never used one. You're yelling right now
2:28
I had a couple of Blackberries over the years. Did you prefer the typing? At the time, because the touchscreen typing
2:34
wasn't as good as it is now. Like BBM. Yeah. Your friends were in
2:39
BBM was a social network of sorts. Yep. Instant messaging outside of SMS
2:44
Very convenient. And super encrypted apparently. He went like this, super encrypted, and he did a surfboard like that
2:51
I thought I just went down. No, no, no, no, you did it. You had this action like this as well
2:55
If you're going to do a rugged phone, chances are you're using it in suboptimal conditions
3:00
Cold. Hot. Wet. Dusty. These are situations in which possibly your touchscreen might not function as you expect
3:14
in which case you could still rely on a physical input method. If you're in Siberia, so maybe there's an argument
3:23
if you're going to have a rugged phone, to have a physical input method. Yeah
3:27
Not just strictly touchscreen. It's also satisfying with the tactile keys. Yeah, I agree
3:33
Now, we don't know. I mean, we haven't used this keyboard, so it could be terrible as well
3:37
Yeah. Some of the recent Blackberries I looked at this turns into like a touchpad A little touchpad I think what I read it does that Ooh that vibrates when I touch it First experience with the keyboard There is something fun about it Will
3:52
You think you're gonna two-hand it. Ooh. It's a two-hander. So this was on Kickstarter
3:59
Yup. Retails 360. In North America, that'd be like lower, mid-range. Wireless charging, NFC, face unlock
4:07
Okay. That's a pretty natural spot for a fingerprint scanner, to be honest
4:11
I see also this extra button is for walkie-talkie functionality because it's rugged
4:16
You're in a forest, the park ranger. Yep. It's not the first time I've discovered a gadget that I feel like is exclusively useful to park rangers
4:24
Yeah. Hey, there's somebody's trapped in an oak tree. Yeah. You ever get trapped in an oak tree
4:32
Not terrible. Look at the, you know, the OS is pretty stock looking
4:37
Let's see what the settings menu looks like. Pretty stock. Yeah. Okay. We'll take it
4:40
I think this is still early stages because the Kickstarter is not even over yet
4:45
I think we have an early version of it. The touchpad is not enabled yet, but I'm assuming it will be at some point
4:51
Based on their Kickstarter page, I think they've got to implement this because it's really convenient to be scrolling like this
4:57
instead of going back to a square display. Feels so foreign and strange
5:03
Give that a shot if it will. Scroll that YouTube page there. One benefit, though
5:08
Smaller screen, better battery life. Yep. What are your expectations for the camera here, Will
5:13
Oh, no. Oh. Is there a beauty mode, though? Oh, no. It's terrible
5:19
Oh, we didn't even try the fingerprint. Fingerprint works. Let's see. Let's try that again. Not the fastest
5:25
Not bad. Not the fastest. Does work. Yep. Does work. I mean, it's not a great photo
5:32
Jack camera making it look better than it actually even is Okay this is a bit better This is not as bad as I expected Look it not great The highlights are still just exploded I say it better than I expected
5:46
surprisingly enough, I would say so. Now we'll switch to the selfie camera here
5:52
At the bottom of my chin here, it like softened it up like it's doing some sort of auto
5:58
portrait attempt. It's so artificial looking. You know what we didn't do, which we normally do
6:03
will is listen to the speakers here you're a big glue later fan right i'm a fan yeah the marketing
6:08
plan because they were going after some heavy hitter devices on the web page sounds like a
6:15
radio yeah it doesn't sound great all right look this thing is not gonna you're not buying it to
6:20
compete with the likes of the other standard style smartphones it's so different that you kind of know
6:27
you want it if you want it. It's got the rugged vibe
6:32
It's got the keyboard thing going on. Personal story here. I'm at a gathering
6:37
in the wilderness and a guy shows up, a visitor, and he falls
6:45
into the river and as he emerges from the water, he removes a blackberry
6:52
from his pocket. And I look at him like, wow, you still got
6:56
a blackberry. So I popped the back office moisture everywhere. I'm like, I think you're doomed, man
7:02
He loved that BlackBerry. There's a portion of the market, Will, that's looking for something like this
7:09
They get the rugged BlackBerry they could never have. Right on. But yo, listen
7:16
It's, uh, oh, Jesus. You know, it's not a bad device. So, I don't know
7:22
If you're into this type of thing, go check it out. Hey, come on. I can end it right there
7:28
That's good
