This is the official YouTube page of Law Nation Sports. It is the perfect way to keep up with everything about sports and film breakdowns on your desktop or mobile devices. Overview Josh Simmons is an athletic offensive tackle with the size and length to compete at the next level. He has starting experience on both sides of the line but is currently recovering from a season-ending knee injury suffered in mid-October. His movement is fluid, both in tight spaces and when blocking in the open field, and he has the lateral quickness to match NFL edge rushers. While he relies more on positioning than raw power in run blocking, he is scheme-versatile. Improving his hand placement and grip strength will help him gain better control in both run and pass protection. He is still vulnerable to twists and counter moves in pass blocking, so a year of development may be needed before he is ready to consistently take on elite NFL pass rushers. Strengths Quick and smooth out of his stance, allowing him to get into position effortlessly. Excellent foot speed helps him establish leverage in cut-off blocks. Works hard to sustain and finish blocks with active foot movement. Shows good timing to land the first punch in pass protection. Uses a firm outside hand to control pass rushers on the edge. Understands pocket depth and positioning. Has the athletic range to be effective in the screen game. Weaknesses Upper-body strength is average. Lacks initial pop-on contact in the run game. Tends to catch rushers rather than delivering a strong punch, making him vulnerable to bull rushes. Leans forward too much, leaving him susceptible to push-pull moves and counter rushes. Needs to improve recognition of defensive twists and stunts.
