I won't say that this is a boring device, but the AVWOO White Noise Sound Machine will help you fall asleep. Or reach a meditative state. Or just be able to focus on studying or distract the baby so they can finally have a nap. And with its 20 hour running time on a single charge, it's a great travel companion too. Tech expert Dave Taylor of https://www.AskDaveTaylor.com/ had a chance to check out the AVWOO Sound Machine and found it had lots to like - including its budget price - but also one problem you'll want to know about before you decide to pick one up for yourself... Check it on Amazon at https://amzn.to/2TKbPLZ

better let's check it out

0:10
oh hey hang on turn this off Dave Taylor
0:17
here and I'm looking at this while I'm
0:19
resting and meditating while listening
0:21
to this this is the AV woo white noise
0:24
sound machine and it's actually a pretty
0:26
nice little device as you can see it's
0:28
form factor is basically a smoke alarm
0:31
this is almost exactly the same size and
0:33
from the back it looks the same but what
0:36
it is is it's a sound machine so it
0:38
generates a wide variety of noises and
0:40
you have adjustable things like volume
0:42
and how many times it's cycles and sleep
0:46
settings and all sorts of stuff the most
0:48
important thing though is it has a built
0:51
in 1200 milliamp hour battery which
0:53
means that you can run for 20 hours just
0:55
off the battery that is pretty handy now
0:58
it charges via micro USB and it includes
1:01
a cable but you will need to bring your
1:03
own charger almost all of us have those
1:06
chargers or frankly you can plug it into
1:08
your computer and obviously your
1:10
computer's not going to know what the
1:11
heck it is but it'll still get power
1:12
from the USB port so it's still charged
1:14
no big deal
1:15
now I'll give you a tour in just a sec
1:18
but it has an auto shutoff timer giving
1:21
you 30 60 or 90 minutes of audio and has
1:25
the ability to cycle through there are
1:28
15 minute cycles or sequences of music
1:33
or sound and then you can either have it
1:35
go once and then be done or you can have
1:37
it just keep cycling through and through
1:39
now your maybe you don't understand 15
1:42
minutes is really nice because there's a
1:44
lot of sound machines out there where
1:47
their cycle is like fifteen or thirty
1:49
seconds and so what you end up doing is
1:51
you lay there and you listen and you
1:54
hear the repeating loop and that's very
1:57
disconcerting I don't like those at all
1:58
so having a 15 minute cycle means that
2:01
I'm basically by the time that first
2:03
cycle is over I'm either gonna be asleep
2:05
or in a good meditative state which is
2:08
actually one of the things worth
2:09
mentioning is that this is really great
2:12
for meditation or relaxation and it's
2:14
also good for studying or doing work so
2:17
like if you're a student and you want to
2:19
be able to study without having all that
2:21
distractions of everyone around you then
2:23
something like this can be really nice
2:25
now to be fair there is no audio out
2:28
this is not intended to be something you
2:30
use with headphones or earbuds that's an
2:32
entirely different use case but the a/v
2:36
woo does a nice job so what I want to do
2:38
is I want to give you a close-up tour
2:39
and let you hear all the different
2:41
sounds before we do that let me just
2:44
show you that the center is on/off and
2:46
volume so I'm gonna turn it on and then
2:50
turn it up pretty high so you can hear
2:52
it and then we're gonna start with the
2:56
white noise and pink noise sounds and
2:59
let me turn down a little bit the way it
3:02
works is that each button there's sort
3:04
of a membrane on the bottom and each one
3:06
has multiple sequences or status so I
3:10
push the same one and it alternates
3:12
between white noise and pink noise and
3:14
then I push the second one and it
3:16
alternates between fan and natural wind
3:18
for example so now let's get back to
3:21
that close-up so first off the leftmost
3:24
button gets you single cycle or loops
3:27
the second one is alternating between
3:29
white noise and turn it up a little bit
3:31
white noise and pink noise
3:36
and then the next button alternates
3:38
between fan
3:42
which sounds it giving an airplane which
3:44
is the last thing I want to be in more
3:47
natural wind
3:52
while always my favorite thunderstorm
4:02
or ocean waves
4:09
and birdsong or chirp which I guess is
4:19
supposed to be crickets a lot of darn
4:22
crickets and then finally you alternate
4:28
between light music and lullaby so this
4:31
I believe is light music and this is
4:35
lullaby
4:36
but lullaby has this weird sort of audio
4:39
liquid sound
4:41
[Music]
4:46
I really know what that is so we'll go
4:51
back to the thunderstorm that's just the
4:52
nicest of the options and that's
4:54
basically that's all the functionality
4:56
imma go ahead and turn this off so
4:58
that's all the basic functionality and
5:00
its really nice I really like that it
5:03
won't accidentally turn on in your
5:05
luggage if you travel with this and I
5:06
will tell you as someone who spends a
5:08
lot of time in hotel rooms sounds really
5:10
weird
5:11
I go to a lot of conferences it is super
5:14
beneficial super super nice to have a
5:16
sound machine in your hotel room so I
5:19
always have one of these devices in my
5:21
suitcase a hundred percent of the time
5:23
and sometimes you have to turn it up
5:25
pretty loud to not have to hear the
5:26
neighbors but other times it's just it
5:28
helps just sort of mellow out the space
5:31
and help you get to sleep so that's
5:33
really nice
5:34
now the only thing I will say as a
5:36
criticism is that there are lights as
5:40
you can see here on the bottom the
5:42
things illuminate and you can't turn off
5:45
all the lights so when you are using
5:47
this however soft you have it whatever
5:50
mode you have it in there's always some
5:52
illumination and I know some people are
5:54
super photosensitive at night and want
5:57
to pitch-black room and if that's your
6:00
situation then you might find that
6:02
you're throwing like a towel over this
6:05
or something I mean it's not that bad
6:07
after it all settles down it's just the
6:09
one function that's actually in use that
6:12
is illuminated so I don't consider that
6:14
a really big deal you could probably
6:16
cover that up with a coin for example
6:18
and do fine but I wish there was that
6:20
maybe a little switch on the side that
6:22
said turn off all lights so this is just
6:24
another you know it's not a source of
6:27
any sort of illumination if that's an
6:29
issue to you it's an easy workaround
6:31
anyway before I get to the price if I
6:33
can go ahead and ask can you go ahead
6:34
and click Subscribe and subscribe to my
6:36
channel I really appreciate when you do
6:38
that and leave me a comment let me know
6:40
do you use white noise machines do you
6:42
have something like this for when you
6:44
travel or do you have something like
6:45
this in the baby's room so that they
6:47
don't lay there and like cry every time
6:50
you're I don't know the show on TV gets
6:52
loud or something so I have found these
6:54
sort of things really beneficial as a
6:56
parent at a whole nother conversation
6:59
so the price this is the AV whoo white
7:02
noise sound machine and it is a very
7:05
modest $19.99 on amazon.com that is a
7:09
pretty darn good deal this would make a
7:11
lovely stocking stuffer if you're
7:13
looking for something like that or gift
7:14
but even just for yourself this can be a
7:17
really nice way to get a little more
7:19
control over the audio environment that
7:22
you live it
7:22
so since Dave - they're going up so let
7:27
me get this up a little bit and get it
7:29
to the right sound well catch you with
7:36
