It seems so logical to have a tiny keyboard that turns your iPad Mini into a mini-laptop, and there are a number of companies offering just such a device. But how do they compare? Dave Taylor of https://www.AskDaveTaylor.com/ reviews the Brydge Keyboard for the iPad Mini, and finds that, to his surprise, he doesn't love it...

hi Dave Taylor here again and this time
0:12
I want to look at the bridge keyboard
0:15
this is actually the bridge mini cuz
0:17
it's for an iPad Mini and let me show
0:19
you what's going on here
0:20
it's keyboard and I'll zoom in a little
0:23
bit so you can see exactly how the keys
0:26
layout and everything but it's a
0:28
Bluetooth keyboard designed for iPad
0:30
minis and works with all of them because
0:33
it has this sort of funky hinge where
0:36
you just sort of here's my iPad you just
0:39
slip it into the hinges you see them
0:42
there and here's a close-up shot and the
0:45
idea is you just put the mini in the
0:47
hinges and then you have this nice 180
0:50
degrees where you can get it to be at
0:52
different angles it actually has an
0:55
automatic wake up feature which is kind
0:57
of nice but like all of these Bluetooth
1:00
keyboards that turn your tablet into
1:03
like a laptop for lack of a better word
1:06
the keys actually are really important
1:09
but there's the whole sort of experience
1:11
of it and if you'll recall I recently
1:14
looked at the Zagg slim book here's
1:16
actually a link if you want to click
1:17
over and look at that review but I gotta
1:20
say I like the Zagg design because it
1:22
actually is a shell that covers the iPad
1:26
and then there's the keyboard and so the
1:28
whole thing closes on is protective when
1:30
I close this you can see this is just my
1:33
iPad there's no protection for it and
1:36
it's not hugely stylish but it also
1:40
isn't adding much weight there's a
1:42
little switch on the front turn it on
1:44
and of course now when I open up my
1:47
computer since I previously bluetooth
1:49
paired it all I have to do is unlock my
1:53
iPad and something I can remember the
1:56
password you didn't see that did you no
1:58
good so I can then go anywhere and just
2:02
type so it's actually a really nice
2:06
feeling keyboard but this sort of this
2:08
funky thing that takes a while to get
2:10
used to which is that the return keys
2:12
really
2:14
so again let me zoom in and show you
2:16
what I mean by that it's just the same
2:18
size as every other key now I realize
2:21
that when you're doing something that's
2:22
the dimensions of the mini you're
2:24
constrained to that size but even given
2:27
that this again just like the zag
2:29
there's just sort of the size of the
2:31
keys takes a little getting used to so
2:33
not a huge big deal one thing this has
2:37
it's really cool as it has a backlit
2:39
keyboard so if you're in a situation
2:41
where you don't have much light this is
2:43
a huge win to be able to have the keys
2:45
light up so you can see what's going on
2:47
once it's fully charged through micro
2:50
USB cable included runs about three
2:53
months depending on your usage that's
2:55
pretty good and this is Space Gray this
2:58
color it also comes in silver and gold
3:00
so you can match the metal color of your
3:03
iPad certainly on the north more recent
3:05
models of the iPad Mini and finally it's
3:08
129 bucks from bridge keyboards comm
3:12
where you can learn more about it 129
3:15
dollars this is the bridge mini for iPad
3:20
minis and I gotta say like I said not a
3:23
huge fan of it the keyboard is really
3:26
nice everything I really like about it
3:28
it just sort of makes me anxious having
3:30
this hinge right on the glass surface of
3:33
the iPad so you know by comparison the
3:37
way that the zag Mini works or the zag
3:40
slim book for the iPad Mini get that
3:42
name right is it's a shell that pops
3:45
over the iPad and so then the iPad
3:48
itself doesn't have any pressure or any
3:50
unusual thing going on which to me means
3:53
that it's a little safer it's a little
3:56
less likely to get damaged but I'll
3:58
leave it up to you because I'm sure some
4:00
people are perfectly fine having this
4:02
sort of a design and it is pretty nice
4:05
it's pretty thin and it does give you
4:07
three months of on-the-go keyboard which
4:09
is a whole lot easier to type on than
4:11
the keyboard on the screen make your own
4:14
decision so this is Dave Taylor and
4:17
I'll catch you in my next video
